Will this tool on the ASUS site work for unlocking the bootloader and then allow me to root my tf300t
I am currently on Build number 10.4.2.20-20121228
http://www.asus.com/Tablet_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#support_Download_32
I would prefer not to downgrade and I have been looking for a way to root my device without adb is this possible on this build?

You seem a little lost. This is the section for the TF201, you should look here where people would know more about your device specifics

Build number: ...10.4.2.18 version (4.1.1)
Can find for every build number but not for 18 :crying:
Can anybody point me in the right direction??

I dont know if there is an easy root for jelly bean. The only way is to unlock your bootloader using the app provided by asus, then use a custom recovery to root.

Yes i believe people have been able to unlock on jellybean though.
shouldn't be any harm in trying the app

Worked for me. Same build number as you have.
I just did it a few days ago myself. I was completely stock up to 4.1.1
Then I followed the rooting guide by first grabbing the Unlock_Device_App_v6.apk from the asus site and installing it on the tablet.
Once completed, your device says "Your device is unlocked" on the Asus logo screen when booting in the top left corner.
Afterwords I loaded into fastboot and ran the command shown in the guide to copy over twrp.
and that was that...
I have an Asus transformer prime running Jellybean 4.1.1. I was searching for a way to root it but I didn't find anything for Jellybean. Do you have any idea how? Maybe an app or a way to downgrade. Thanks

In my opinion the only way to root is to unlock your prime, when you are on JB. I did that and I am very with it.

Yes, I did the same as well. I used the unlock tool to unlock it after it upgraded to JB 4.1.1.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228613 for the way to root TF201 with JB. No need to unlock bootloader!

Is it possible to root the ultra without unlocking the bootloader? I'm not familiar with Sony, I haven't used a Sony phone since Xperia play. Or do I need to do the unlock method first?
Thanks in advance.

Read my friend read. There are multiple threads with the instructions on getting root with a locked bootloader. but life is so much easier with it unlocked.
[NUT]'s posts are a good place to start, and the guides at the top od this section

Can lead a horse to water... But can't make him drink (if the water is not from "the states" anyway)

I'll come over to your house and we'll get it rooted. Just joking and I must say there is a lot of outdated info even in the stickies. It took me a lot longer than it should to figure out what was currently correct.

Im wondering if its possible to enable multi-window on this tablet now that marshmallow has released. I know its most likely possible on unlocked bootloader with root but i was wondering if the same could be possible for locked bootloader?
Here's a link if it helps:

No, build.prop edits need root or a custom recovery from which you can edit build.prop on the system partition:

It'll be interesting to see how this will function on the Z4T

I thought so damn although I did notice a recovery boot file in the system folder no idea if there's an actual recovery but I don't think I can access it anyway. If only sony provided us with a stock recovery like other OEMs. Seeing this feature on the Z4T I'm sure will be great. I thought it might have been possible to pull the build.prop without recovery using adb but I guess not. If only there was root on locked BL...?

Yes, if only. Maybe this fresh MM ROM has some vulnerability that can be exploited to gain root. But knowing Sony’s extensive, custom countermeasures, I think chances are very slim.
Just unlock your bootloader and fully enjoy this tablet

Haha lol I could do that but I'm worried about warranty cus I've been having WiFi issues that come and go I plan to unlock my BL after 2 years when warranty runs out so next year.
