Unlock and flash without root?

If I'm on. 21 and I unlock my bootloader can I flash rom's without root to get root?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium App
You sure can! Just push CWM manually using fastboot and then flash a rom that's pre-rooted.
Sweet thanks

I know others have posted this elsewhere, but in case you can't find it: http://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...orkmod-recovery-5-8-2-0-on-transformer-prime/
So if you flash down to a lower version besides .21, can you then root the device, along with running the pre-rooted rom ?

Your question doesn't really make sense. Are you asking if you can flash a roll back of an ASUS OEM ROM? Otherwise why would you need to root a pre-rooted ROM?
guys, I have a strange case. with 2 other cases, I upgrade to .21 (stupid game) then unlock bootloader and downgrade to .15 with CVW. But with new case I cannot unlock bootloader as normal. It tell me "An unknown error occurs which may be a network connection issue. Please wait an try again later". Although I have 2 connections. 1 from my home network, 1 3G network (from htc sensation). Both can download applications from market, but still get the same issue.
Any idea?
You only need to unlock once.

Rooting TF300T questions/advice

Will this tool on the ASUS site work for unlocking the bootloader and then allow me to root my tf300t
I am currently on Build number 10.4.2.20-20121228
http://www.asus.com/Tablet_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#support_Download_32
I would prefer not to downgrade and I have been looking for a way to root my device without adb is this possible on this build?

You seem a little lost. This is the section for the TF201, you should look here where people would know more about your device specifics

To much confusion about how to root my TP. After researching for the last two days I can't figure out or find instructions on how to root my prime having the following:
Build number: ...10.4.2.18 version (4.1.1)
Can find for every build number but not for 18 :crying:
Can anybody point me in the right direction??

I dont know if there is an easy root for jelly bean. The only way is to unlock your bootloader using the app provided by asus, then use a custom recovery to root.

Yes i believe people have been able to unlock on jellybean though.
shouldn't be any harm in trying the app

Worked for me. Same build number as you have.
I just did it a few days ago myself. I was completely stock up to 4.1.1
Then I followed the rooting guide by first grabbing the Unlock_Device_App_v6.apk from the asus site and installing it on the tablet.
Once completed, your device says "Your device is unlocked" on the Asus logo screen when booting in the top left corner.
Afterwords I loaded into fastboot and ran the command shown in the guide to copy over twrp.
and that was that...

[Q] Help Rooting

I have an Asus transformer prime running Jellybean 4.1.1. I was searching for a way to root it but I didn't find anything for Jellybean. Do you have any idea how? Maybe an app or a way to downgrade. Thanks

In my opinion the only way to root is to unlock your prime, when you are on JB. I did that and I am very with it.

Yes, I did the same as well. I used the unlock tool to unlock it after it upgraded to JB 4.1.1.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228613 for the way to root TF201 with JB. No need to unlock bootloader!
