Hello, a girl knocked my phone off of my desk, but I have insurance from MDPA, which covers this, now, they need my to send my package to them for repair, but I want to back my phone up, simply the texts, numbers and most importantly, I want to restore it to stock, and reset the flash counter. The problem is that the screen is 100% dead due to the accident, any way for me to do this? Thanks in advance! :good:

There is a program you can install and output to your computer as a monitor, but you really can't install it if you can't see what you are doing. You could try using the MHL adapter and outputting to a tv or something. Just a thought.

I don't have anything that can do that unfortunately, is there a way to reset my phone and the flash counter? With just my pc? I can still give input, but just nothing shows up.

I don't think the flash counter, but I guess you could run Odin without seeing the screen to restore it to stock
I'll say as an insurance claim I don't think they tend to care if it's rooted.

Damn, well my insurance just told me that if I take it to a local place, as they understand that not having a phone is a burden, that they'll cover any cost up to 100$, do you know if Verizon does this? Replace the screen that is.

Bah, but it's such a hassle to get it sent in, repaired, then sent back, but you're right. I have Mobile Device Protection, do you think they go through software and all that? do they care if I have my phone custom ROMed and rooted?

Quick question. Time warner cable live TV app doesn't support rooted devices, which mine is. I removed root last night to try the app but haven't had much time yet. I assume the app searches for system/bin/su and superuser.apk. can anyone think of a way to either rename the two so it can't detect it but still have root, sort of a toggle without the need to reflash from recovery every time I want root back.

I'm serious. Like I just said it authenticates with your cable modem on your home network. You would have to find some way to fake the cable modem on 4g. Which isn't possible.
Set up a VPN connection between your phone and a home computer. Then it will see your computers ip and not your phones. That might work but would require good upload bandwidth on your home connection.
What is Crackle? Seen people on it from Xbox Live.

Try OTA Rootkeeper from the Play store by Project Voodoo. I wanted to watch a rented video from the play store and couldn't because I was rooted. It temporarily unroots your phone and restores it whenever you choose to.
Let me know how it goes.

Anyone else finds it ironic that google wallet dosen't support rooted devices, but the only way to make wallet work is to be rooted?
On a side note I like google wallet, but these are pretty bad growing pains hopefully google wallet can survive them.

Google Wallet told me on twitter that they are working with htc and sprint because it has to do with a nfc component on the phone.

Being rooted has never had anything to do with the problem. The only thing I know I did differently prior to it working was doing the marketplace error fix of unsynching gmail and rebooting, then resynching gmail and rebooting.

I'm taking it back to the shop today but before I do I was wondering if there was any way of wiping the data off it before handing it over? I just don't fancy the thought of some random guy having access to all my files and photos. Not that there is anything bad on there

This happened to me once and it turned out to be the battery and not the phone. If you have a friend who happens to have an S3 as well, may want to try and swap the battery out with them and see if that makes a difference. If not, then service center and warranty are your only option.

I think you don´t need to be concerned about that, it happens to me with S2 and that was the board that burned and possibly even samsung will be able to read the data. And normaly they don´t care about that they just simply will replace your board and everything will be fine again.

yea i think your right and at 18mb i doubt its anything worth wild
and it Keeps the ROOT. (If ur still on Stock like me)
Is it safe to update to this if I have unlocked my bootloader. Still on the original firmware at the moment but I unlocked it. I thought I remember reading that you aren't supposed to install OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader or something.
I am rooted, and the update could not install. I have uninstalled some of the ATT bloatware however, so that might have something to do with it.
You may go ahead and install it, even with unlocked bootloader. At worst, it will fail to install and just go away. At best, you will have the latest updates from AT&T for what it's worth.
I have unlocked, rooted OG and every time I flash to restore to stock, that update comes up time and time again, even with fotakill AND cache delete. I just let it update and it fails, each and every time. No harm done at all to my phone.

Have you got any text yet ?
Something happened to my text messaging too. For the record I am on The Base 0.7.3 which doesn't include this update. From Friday morning at 10am until last night at about 10:22pm I didn't receive a text but people got my outgoing. Then after my phone crashed and I rebooted, about 30 minutes later 15 texts came through. All from confused people who were wondering why I wasn't responding.
Come to think of it, I had issues sending a text to my brother on Friday night. He's on verizon. I rebooted and eventually it went through. I'm rooted but not unlocked and haven't seen the update. On a possibly related note i kept missing calls Friday night. But I'd get the voicemail. Then yesterday i couldn't. Make or receive calls. It turns out my sim card came loose
