whats in the latest update and should i upgrade - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

currently running android 4.1.1 I605vraljb
which is ok but is ther any reason to upgrade
mine is currently stock
your thoughts please

The new radio might be very slightly better, but mostly it was a security patch. I didn't notice any real difference on VRALL4. Now that there is an unlock method for both radios it isn't a problem to take the upgrade if you plan to root and ROM at some point (it was for about a week after it came out as it relocked the bootloader).

the unlock method is for the bootloader not radio...you might already know this and just typed it wrong. just wanted to clear that up for anybody that may read your post.

Right...sorry if there was confusion. A new unlock method was released when the update came out and relocked the bootloader. I unlocked on the original version and flashed the VRALL4 radio when I went to Beans 8.

Root on 2.1 Official ROM

Hi guys, I'm new to this world, to custom ROM'S and such.
I have waited for the Official ROM from HTC, but I'm rly disappointing whit the Official ROM, but now I have seen some topic saying that after installing this one, it's impossible to downgrade it and put a custom ROM. But I have seen some replays around the forum saying that is possible.
Oki, saying this, I have been searching the forum since then, about a good tutorial for this, so i can put a custom ROM on the Hero, but I cant find any, so i, making this post so that the experts can help me out
P.S. I know about the warning's and such, but nothing is impossible, it just can take some time do to it.
Thanks for the help guys
As far as i know, official 2.1 = locked phone.
Might change sometime but not yet.
Rooted mine, far preferable
Try this, about the best one i found
androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html
Sorry, no linky, forum says i'm not old enough. Or was it too few posts
Wrong, you can downgrade it. Just run the RUU update file and it will downgrade (goldcard method).
2.1 is also now rooted with the same method for root as 1.5/1.6/2.0.

???????????
where did you see this info? have you done it yourself?
I've tried to do it, with goldcard method and it didn't work.
Reply to confirm what you have stated please.
tks
I don't know or ever used the goldcard method but I can assure I did update my Hero via OTA (both of the updates) and I was able to go back to a different ROM. Simply use Amon-RA's recovery image and you can flash anything you want.
You must know something though, my Hero came with version 1.76 (back in the day) and I never installed an official update through RUU's (thus blocking the phone by installing newer SPLs). And I'm also using the unlocked SPL for the Hero posted by Paul @ MoDaCo.
The RUUs normally install a new SPL (locked probably) but as you are all aware, the 2.1 update is only available via OTA (for now at least) and doesn't install a new SPL, so there's no problem there, assuming you are using an unlocked SPL or an older one. If a new RUU is made available for 2.1, it will probably com with a new SPL, or not, who knows...

So my newly bought HTC Hero is stuck as 2.1 as of now? (Kernal 2.6.29)

That is incorrect, I did my update through an RUU (Chungwa) and therefore I'm stuck with it.

It depends...according to Nazgulled, if you did a FOTA upgrade you should be able to downgrade. If like me, you did it through RUU...you're screwed for now...
I'm assuming i'm not going to be able to since my phone came stock with 2.1 lol, oh well. Hadn't planned on rooting right away anyway. Not actually too sure what rooting would do for me...

[Q] Downgrade my Droid DNA firmware

I got my DNA 3 days ago
everything are fine until i found out that I can't check updates for my phone
(it shows only with CDMA network) and I don't live in US so I'm using GSM network
was trying to unlock and flash custom ROM but the thing is my phone already got OTA update to version 2.04.605
as I know this version can't be unlock so don't even mention about flash CMV and what not.
Is there any chance that I could just downgrade back to version 1.15.605?
I also am trying to figure out how downgrade so that I can root. Im not exactly sure how to root but from what I read I need to be on 1.x.x.x instead of the 2.x.x.x . Please help I searched and this what I found

Update bootloader? HD Voice?

I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I gave my wife my Evo 4G LTE over a year ago, and it's worked great running Mean Bean (not sure about the version). The phone is unlocked, rooted and S-Off. Recently, I thought it would be a good idea to update it to KitKat, mainly because I was hoping that the newer ROMs would utilize HD voice. Long story short, I realized that I need to have the 2.10.0000 bootloader and mine is 1.19.something. So, I have a couple questions:
1. Do the newer custom ROMs support HD voice, or do I need to revert to stock?
2. What is the recommended method to update the bootloader?
Sorry if I seem clueless, but I've moved on from this phone a while ago and forgot all about the S-On/S-Off hoops you have to jump through.

The latest official update was to Android 4.3 which is Jelly Bean, not KK. I believe the HD voice update was part of the software version 3.17 update (Hboot 2.09). There were only 2 or 3 custom ROM's for that particular software version, mostly due to the fact that it was not a major update for the EVO LTE. Any ROM based off that software version should support HD voice. You can run the RUU for that update and you'll remain S-off. Hit the top link in my sig and scroll down to the section on RUU's for further info. This method will also update you to Hboot 2.09.

This doesn't answer the question of how to get to HBOOT 2.10.

Upgrading to lollipop from 4.4.2 with mdk loader

I am currently on 4.4.2 with a MDK bootloader. Originally I wanted to upgrade to Lollipop to use Magisk, but was informed that MDK is a fully unlocked bootloader so it wouldn't work.
That being said I would still like to upgrade to Lollipop. Without using the OTA method what is my best option? I have seen a few threads talking about different options, but most of them either don't mention MDK loader.
That being said maybe at this point in the phones life I just do the OTA update and loose the good bootloader. While having root is nice, I could probably live without it.

Can't Relock my bootloader!

Hi,
I've been wandering around the forum for a week and can't find a solution. So far I have not dared to ask, but I really need assistance. Soon I unlocked the bootloader through the official site of the Motorola. Then I installed a TWPR recovery and installed a Lineage 16, but I didn't like it. I tried 15 and also didn't like it and decided to go back to stock ROM. I followed this instruction https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/how-to-relock-bootloader-moto-z-xt-1650-t3821817. Yes, I managed to get the stock rom, but the bootloader remained unlocked. The phone was purchased from Telenor Bulgaria - RETEU version. Another thing that impressed me was when I rebooted to bootloader and show me a Product / Option Sheridan XT 1650-3 32GB P3B, and I remember it was Griffin before. I ask for your patience and guidance and I apologize in advance. I apologize for my English!
I received two OTA updates, the last one being a security patch by July 2018. I hoped these updates would lock my bootloader, but it didn't work. For as long as I can remember before unlocking the bootloader and putting in a custom rom, I received an official securit update by December 2018.
If no one can help me, can you tell me where to ask. I can assist with any questions if you want details about my device.
Thanx
I've re-locked the bootloader on my Moto Z last year. I can't remember exactly what I did but I think it was something like what is outlined here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77177509&postcount=110

Thanks for the reply. As I wrote, I followed the same locking method, but it does not work. Maybe I'm not using the right firmware and that's not it. Thats why I wanted someone here to just tell me exactly what I should show him from my phone data to tell me which firmware is right.
I did it! Please close the thread!
