An update to TWRP was just released. Apparently the backups were working correctly, but there was a bug in restoring the backups.
You should be able to update using the goomanager app.
There is a thread in the original development subforum with more details.

[Q] Problem restoring via CWM - Data

Hello, I need some help with restoring via CWM on the Galaxy S3.
On the S2 I pretty much always used CM9 and jumped back and forth between versions and backing up/ restoring was never an issue.
Now however I am using the stock ROM and its rooted of course.
I made a back up of my stock rom 'cause I wanted to try and install some stuff.
I tried installing the jelly bean transition effects but the install failed, the device felt kinda sluggish (maybe my imagination) afterwards so I decided to restore my phone. The restoring went good but the last ting that happens is that CWM says that restoring /Data failed.
I reboot my phone and I come to the first start up screen where I get to choose language and so on. Everything but photos has been deleted. I try to install CM9, and I do that without any issues. Then I trie to backup my stock backup but I get the same error message and I get back to stock setup page.
My backup is a staggering 6GB, and I read somewhere that CWM can only restore 2GB?
I've deleted that backup and done another one but that is also 6GB.
Does anyone know how to restore from that first restore or how to make future restores work?

I had this problem with my sisters Xperia X8,couldn't restore anything that i backed up.It goes for a while and stops. But she had bootloader locked.I was shore that i unlocked her bootloader but i didn't,so i unlocked bootloader, and tried to backup and restore and it worked fine.
I'm not 100% and i don't know is that the way CWM works, but i think in order to restore your data, that you backed up,you have to unlock your bootloader. But it's the best to wait someone who knows this for 100% sure.
If you haven't unlocked bootloader try that,or you don't won't to lose your warranty!?
Good luck!
I don't think that CWM has size limitation but i can be wrong.
Have you made sure that your CWM is up-to-date? if in doubt flash the latest CF-root.
was there ever a resolution to this problem? I did the same thing, rooted the galaxy s 3 and unlock the bootloader. Get a backup of my stock set up using clockwork recovery mod. Now when I try to restore, it does not restore the data. All of my apps look like they are there, but none of them are really installed. I think I can just reinstall all of the apps by hand, I would like to know how to get over this.

[q] ics, rom, flash player, fixed !!!!!!

FIXED !!! thanks
ok, ill try to make it simple, ive been working on my tab since 1pm and its 11pm and am still f*cked up
So to make a long story a short one here is what happened
Since i updated to ICS, everything was fine except for flash player not playing my videos anymore, i found a thread explaining how to fix it BUT i didnt reinstall CWM when i update so i actually did (by mistake) a complete reset on my tab (losing all datas, picture, apps etc)
I was wise enough to make a backup on sept 30 b4 i update to ICS
so i found how to re root the tab on ICS, i did it with success, install CWM with odin
then i took rom manager and restore my apps and data and this is where it got complicated
the md5 mismatch popped out, founded how to fix it using terminal emulator, did it then restore
all my apps and settings where back up except for my pictures (its okay i had them saved on my pc)
so i thought i would simply re update to ICS and my life would be great......NOT !
now i keep getting an error: system UI has stopped
went back to recovery tried to wipe everything to factory reset and start all over again,
well my tab is now reset BUT that freaking system UI error keeps coming up and i cant do nothing
the tab is reset but cwm is still installed and i can still restore from my backup so actually i guess it mean the tab is not fully reset.
more, when i plug the usb cable, it doesnt show up on my pc so i cant explore the tab manually
now i dont know what to do, i've been googling for the past 2 hours, cant find a decent solution.
All i want is toget rid of that system ui error, reset the tab and then try again to restore my old backup so i can have my apps then re update to ICS
please, am really desparate, i need help
EDIT :
i think i might have brick my tab
actually while i was waiting for a reply, i went back into Odin and flashed twrp recovery that i got from another website
then i went into recovery and tried again to wipe everythig (cache, devlak and factory reset) i was then back to honeycomb 3.1 but still getting that systemui error
then i've hit system wipe wich has wipe my rom so now my tab isnt rebooting
its stuck on the samsung galaxy tab screen
while i wait for your help, im looking around to find and set back the stock rom
i feel really dumb atm
Try re-install your rom again by using odin

If it were me I would flash stock recovery and stock Honeycomb image and then manually update to ICS using OTA's if stock rooted ICS was the goal. I would not mess with ROM manager or restore apps and data using it as it is likely where you started to get into trouble.
I have seen the system ui error message before myself and it was when I had restored all apps and data blindly over a new install of ICS using titanium. I had to reflash the ROM again and opted instead to manually install the apps after which I restored data for them individually using titanium. Its a pain to do it but the best way to ensure a stable end result. From that point on the lesson learned was to not restore all apps but just the missing ones.

thanks, after i sent that post, i finaly found the stock ICS rom for my tab and installed it,
now am back to the point where i want to restore my apps/data/pictures from my backup that i did with nandroid
thats where i need help, i still get the md5 mismatch but i know how to fix it using terminal emulator but i think the system ui problem comes up because the backup is from a honycomb 3.1 or 3.2 and now the tab is running ICS.
if i reinstall all my apps manually, do you know how i could restore my data from the nandroid backup ?
am trying to find my original 3.1 honeycomb rom but it seem that it doesnt exist on sammobile
Just manually reinstall everything and set it back up without restoring data. Otherwise you're looking for trouble in my opinion.
Just return back to original stock.

[Q] Using CWM to recover a gingerbread backup from an ICS rom?

Is this possible? The full details are I had my phone stolen, and got a new one with android 4.0.4 on it. I have on my computer a copy of my latest backup of my old cognition gingerbread rom. Can I just use CWM to recover to my old rom, or do i need to first downgrade to a gingerbread rom, and then recover?
Thankyou very much for assistance
Edit: Also, I don't actually want to use the old rom, I just need the contacts it saved, afterwards I'll wipe everything and install a clean ICS mod. In case there's any way of doing this without having to revert
You'll probably need to restore the backup with a version of CWM close to the one the backup was made with, you can often have problems restoring if you're using a CWM version a lot (say 12 mths or more) newer than the one you made the backup with.
So I'd probably go GB/with a rooted GB kernel first, restore the backup & go from there. I mean, it could work first try with an ICS kernel that's running a recent CWM build, but there's a fair chance it won't.
Edit - And be really careful with stock 4.0.4, don't do a wipe while you're running that.
Wow. I just... wow.
Ok, so I did the stupid thing and just tried to restore my old backup without doing proper downgrading first and it ended up soft bricking my machine, couldn't get recovery mode up, but I got into download mode. So I downloaded my country's stock gingerbread rom from samsung's site and flashed it with odin just to see what happens, and somehow my old rom was working again, and I have all my contacts and data. saved everything up to google, upgraded to ICS, import.
Everything went better than expected.
Thanks for the help
Told you Important thing is you managed to fix it yourself without asking silly questions in Q&A. Not many people seem to be able to do that these days.
Well done. I'm glad you got it sorted
Edit -You're welcome

[Q] Returning everything on phone to Stocks/Defaults

Hello everybody. I recently flashed my phone with the latest Cyanogenmod rom for the HTC one, using the wHil recovery flasher. However after playing with the rom for a bit I decided I want to swap back to stock everything that came with my phone. What is the process to go about doing this?
Thanks!
Did you make a nandroid before flashing the Rom, if yes then just flash it then flash stock tmobile recovery img then relock the bootloader..just do a quick search and you find out how to do it... But it will still say tampered on bootloader... But ota will work cause that only requires stock recovery and stock Rom
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I did not, however I downloaded someone else's stock nandriod dump.
So all I need to do is flash the stock rom, flash the stock recovery, relock the bootloader and I should be able to get OTA updates and all that good stuff again?

Yes, that's what I did, and OTA updates work perfert
That's great to hear. So I shouldn't experience any issues when I return to the stock rom like loosing any kind of features and such?
I've been having issues trying to adb push this backup to my phone since 4.2 andriod has things locked down in regards to backups. Been getting the device not found issue, so I'm going to try and push it using a different PC soon hopefully. With where I work I can't live without WiFi calling/texting that Cyanogenmod lacks
So I have the stock backup through clockwork mod and I have it in the proper /clockworkmod/backup folder. Problem is, clockwork mod touch isn't detecting that I have any backups to restore. So I decided to make a fresh backup just to see where it was placed so I could put this other backup I downloaded in there.
Problem. I can't find it anywhere. I don't know where to put it. I don't know where clockworkmod touch wants it to go. Any ideas?
EDIT: Apparently there are two of these folders? *looking more*
EDIT 2: Clearly, If I try to restore from the saved backups, it shows the backup I made, but no amount of searching is finding it through any of my file managers. I'm finding the backup I downloaded, but not the one I made. wtf? Are there hidden folders or something? I have root access.
EDIT 3: There are apparently two clockwork mod folders on my phone. Clockwork mod is saying that it sees the test backup I made on 6-10, but when I check in my file manager for a backup, it shows me the folder with a 4-26 backup which is what I want to restore. The FILE MANAGER sees a folder with 4-26, whereas clockworkmod sees a folder with a backup of 6-10. Both folders are apparently clockworkmod/backup. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
So I just flashed the stock rom, reinstalled the stock rescue image, and relocked my bootloader.
How long does it take for me to be able to get the 4.2 update?
change yearThe

[Q] Nabi 2 bricked?

Hello all,
Sorry to ask a "seemlingly" stupid question, but I'm having a very weird problem with my Nabi 2. It was working great until i decided to "re-hack" it. It had been rooted and Gapps installed, but I returned to stock for the OTA's last year. Now I want to go back to a rooted device.
Everything seemed to go well until the script pushed gapps to the already google friendly device. So, long story short, so many errors I decided to start over.
Using Nabilabs, I installed TWRP and installed the 1937 stock roms. Now here is where things go from bad to worse.
The system won't boot. I saw that there may be a TWRP version issue, so I used the TWRP from nabilabs (2.3.3.0) to make sure. At SOME point, not sure when or how, I lost all the mount points. I was able to get them back using TWRP 2.2.2.1but the Nabi is still soft bricked.
As of now, i am able to get any TWRP installed and can successfully restore any of the ROMS (1917 through 2127) but it won't boot. The NABI logo has no animation and it just sits there.
I have tried very permutation I can think of any nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?
Sorry for the long rambling.

I'm not sure if you should be starting with JB or ICS TWRP. You will have to figure that out. Just let TWRP do the rooting for you afterwards.
