Hello guys. Is there a way to download apps without using google account and sync? Is there a way to download, for example, dolphin mini hd without android market or appbrain?
A secure e legal way of course.
Thanks you really
amazon app store
thanks, is there anything without registration needed?
Search google for the (appname).apk and download it. Then copy it to your phone with a USB cable.
Or just use the phone browser
1. Is it possible to run windows apps on android, yet?
2. What is Kies over wifi?
3. Any launchers yet? Go launcher is on my phone but not in market in tab yet
4. Why is movies option missing from market? I only see apps and books.
5. Hulu, Netflix?
Anyone having problems in market with missing "more" or arrow button for categories?
1. No. But you can remotely access your desktop.
2. KIES allows you to sync like iTunes.(it is the devil)
3. Most launchers need root. ADW is the best.
4. Movies icon is in with your apps. Unless you are in Canada or do not have TW update.
5. Netflix works. Search these forums for the apk. Hulu doesn't.
I also cannot access tethered wifi from my android phone...wont show up in tablet but works fine for my w7 pc?

I am completely new to android and am getting my android phone on Sunday.
[1] I have visited the Webpage of Android market and tried installing sum free apps. It tells me to sign-in. When I sign-in I get the message “There are no Android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account.”
Now, how can I add a phone to this account? I tried in settings but no option to add a phone anywhere…
[2] Once, I sort the Login issue, I believe it directly sends App to phone. Now wht if I have to download App/games on my PC and transfer it to my mobile manually. I am saying this as I don’t have any data plan on my mobile and I prefer to download to PC 1st and later to mobile.
PS: I am an orkut user and hence I am using the username/pass of orkut. Do I need to create a new acc. For my phone?
when you get your phone it will prompt you to set up or sign in with a googlemail account. Once youve done this you will have a phone associated with that email. You can either then use the market on the phone or sign in with this email on the web based market. On the web based one when you click install it will automatically install on your phone.
Im not aware of anyway of downloading from official market to your pc to transfer manually. You can do this with some other programs, i.e some games companies let you download it to pc but to my knowledge thats not possible on the official market. I dont use the web based one a lot though so i may be wrong

Okay, well you can't 'add' a phone to your account - you need to get the phone and enter your account details into the phone, then it will show up on the Android Marketplace website.
You're right in thinking it sends the apps straight to the phone, and I don't know of any way to download an app to your PC to transfer to the phone. However your phone will have a wi-fi feature, so just connect it to your local wifi hotspot and you can download the apps without having to pay data charges
I'm afraid I have no idea about the Orkut thing, though...

I agree with the other posters, just use wifi and you will be fine! If you dont have a wifi hotspot just go to a restaurant or mall that has free wifi and setup your phone there.
You will need a gmail account to activate the market on your phone.
Googles Android market does not provide a way for you to download apps to your PC. You can however copy them from the phone if you gain root access.

You can copy them out even without root access. Just use a file explorer like File Expert which lets you back up the apps to APK files.
Thx for the above replies
I have some new queries, if I change my phone/hard reset, whts the way to install all paid app without downloading again? – As the above member have suggested I have to take backup using something like “File Expert” ? Does it take backup on to PC ?
For any purchased app/games the developer provide update for how long? Where to see this info.
Rooting a phone can ever- delete Messages, Phone numbers, installed Apps ?
As Note is having Wifi-Direct, can i just use a "USB-Wifi dongle" on my PC and connect to my phone OR will i have to buy a router compulsary ? ( I intend to play big files more than 4GB and surf internet )
it's just a mega synchro...
If you synchro your google account, you have contact, mail, ... etc in distant server, so when you flash or reset data when you put again your google account it take all back automaticly.
You can use WiFi for shared files with your computer. It's better with a router but it's possible with dongle.
Hi Everyone!
Just a quick question for those of you on Jelly Bean and living in Canada or anywhere where Google Magazines is not supported. Did you figure out a way to get the Magazine APK that works into your device and get it up and running? Were you able to download magazines afterwards?
Thanks!

I just got my Nexus 7 Monday, and I've been trying to do exactly that. Couple things i've tried is using OpenVPN client and route all traffic through my US based server, then re-open the Google Play app and all the content shows up. When I browse to the Play Magazines app, it says "INSTALLED", additionally there is no open or update buttons. And when I initiated the install from my PC browser it says it is already installed. I also found an apk and tried installing that, it installed fine (it also gave a prompt saying "system app"...already installed...do you want to replace it notification) but doesn't show up anywhere in the system (app drawer etc.); and when I browsed to Play Magazines app in the Play store it changed from "INSTALLED" to "UPDATE". So it's there somewhere...I just can't see or open it!!
Also just for kicks i tried purchasing a magazine (while the vpn tunnel was still connected) without the app, but it gave an error saying not available for purchase in your country.
I've attached the apk i found, in case you want to give it a try.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It looks like Google really doesn't want us Canadians getting our hands on magazines.
Thanks anyways!

Found a solution!!
(Skip to step 2 and try that first, if that doesn't work then go back to step 1)
STEP 1: install a file explorer (i use ES File Explorer) and browse to system/apps/Magazine.apk. Click to install it.
STEP 2: browse through your app drawer and find "Play Magazines". If it's not there add the "Play - My Library" widget, it should prompt you with a few options of what to add...My Library, Movies & TV, Books and now hopefully Magazines. Once added it may ask to "touch to re-enable" the magazines.
Poof, thats it! Now Magazines should be visible/enabled. Enjoy!
This worked on my Nexus 7, I had to purchase magazines on my PC's browser. on the tablet with VPN enabled it synced the magazine and I can sucessfully download and read it. On my Galaxy Nexus (flashed to YAKJU), even with VPN it will not sync magazines or be able to browse Magazines in the Play store. I'm thinking this is because it detects "region" via the SIM...
Let me know if that works for you.

Which part didn't work? Were you able to open the app (either directly or via the widget)? You shouldn't need VPN until you want to use the app. It should install without it.
I'm using https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImRlLmJsaW5rdC5vcGVudnBuIl0. With a VPN tunnel to my company's US server.

Out of curiosity, I know you would need VPN to download the magazines, but once you downoaded and synced the magazine, could you disable VPN and still read it? (i.e. use VPN to download magazines and then disable VPN, reboot the device to it knows you're in Canada and keep reading the magazines you already downloaded?) Or can you only read magazines with VPN active?
Also, did you get access to any of the free magazines that come with the nexus 7 in the US? e.g. Popular Science (July 2012), etc.
Thanks!
@greenglue
Interesting, same as my Nexus 7 except the 16GB. Did you try with VPN?
@mck86
Yes, as far as I have tested you can continue to read once the VPN is disabled. (Although it may periodically disappear again, and you may have to click "re-enable" on the widget).
I wasn't aware of free magazines that came with it, I'll have to double check.
Hi!
Got it to work on my trip to Burlington VT. No VPN needed. It worked by itself. Just had to reinstall magazines app. I will test it again when I get back home tomorrow.

I tried to install the apk but no icon shortcuts show up, I checked the Activities list and it's there??
Got it working. Here were my steps.
1. Download and install the play magazines apk.
2. Download ES file manager.
3. In ES file manager click the apps manager icon and then click play magazines icon. Magazine app should now sign in and work. Icon will now appear tablet wide.
Hope this helps.

Worked brilliantly for me in the UK. Thanks very much!
ES File Manager doesn't show me Play Magazines.
I am in Germany right now, but I guess it doesn't make a difference where you are in Europe, right?

How did you purchase the magazines through your browser? I feel like I'm going to feel really silly once I get the answer but I can't figure it out.

Hi, I'm not sure where to go next. I installed the Magazine APK. In ES I now have the Play Magazine icon showing up when I first open then app (along with all the other folders, Android, Downloads, Movies, Music, etc.). When I select it it lets me install it, which is great, but then it's not showing up in the app drawer or in the App Manager option within ES.
Any ideas how to get it to open? I'm lost.
Thanks!
Worked. Thank you so much. No root required.

Hi.
I am using applocker to lock google play so that you can't access google play without a password. However if I go on google play on the computer and click install from there the app still gets installed. How can I disable that so apps can't get installed from the computer either?
There really isn't. The best advise is not to give it to someone you can't trust. Because all it takes is 5 min and who ever it is will be able to install any app they want without even using the playstore
That's a bummer. I guess there's really not a way to make android kid friendly

Depending on the kid no, not really. As all it takes is 7 taps to open an option to install apps outside the playstore. I learned that Ling ago when I gave my boys their first one. I tried locking them down and did to a point but it took extreme measures like monitoring my home network traffic.
We can only protect them so much.

App locker only ask password for open play store app. locker can not restrict background operations of your play store. You can use inbuilt feature of parental control and set pin to install apps. It may stop installing apps from your computer.
