Q - How do I root my device / install clockworkmod recovery / install a custom ROM?
A - Follow Binary's thread and make sure you READ IT. If you don't, Binary will put you on his sh*t list! http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1426377

I was on GB when I rooted following these directions. I would use hasoon's too though. This thread basically just explains what his tool it's doing for you. . don't use CWM, use 4ext.

Hi folks...
According to reports on this forum, some people seem to have managed rooting their stock 2.3.3 roms.
However, I don't seem to be able to do this
I used the official LG update tool to upgrade to V20C, and it looks like I have a perfectly working Gingerbread installation, but when I try to root (using Gingerbreak, which I thought should work), nothing happens (Gingerbreak keeps running without changing anything).
In the DEV forum FAQ, there is no information about rooting GB roms (yet).
If anyone who successfully did this, would care to comment, I'd be very much obliged
thanks

Either that or do this:
in ADB:
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
then open superoneclick and root (using psneuter).
Thanks, that worked fine. First time I tried I had some problems but I must have done something wrong

Use the EXE installer since obviously you have no clue what you are doing.
crap... didn't see the text file. adb has been moved to platform-tools. sorry
Doktornotor seems to have disappeared (deleted?) and his signature's gone with him also, it's impossible now to search on his username.
Does anyone have a link to the thread where he describes how to root by flashing? I'm probably too stupid to wrap my head around the search function on this site because I really can't find the thread. (by the way I don't think it was the general thread where he tells you how to flash gingerbead)

Thanks, I have the file but it's the thread that I need
EDIT: found it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146566 (3rd post) Maybe Ciaox should mention in his howto-repo that this contains info about rooting stock 2.3.3
Hello,
I've seen so many people having rooted phone, so I tried it by myself. The problem is after doing all the work using Odin 1.85 the phone is stuck at booting up process with the yellow triangle on (I know where the triangle comes from). I have tried flash the device and it didn't work either. The phone does not allow me to go into the recovery mode. I've tried to install the original ROM but without any changes.
Is there any way I can get it up without the service?
Get the rooted stock from the development forum. follow download directions.

If he couldn't handle rooting, I'm afraid this may go bad, too.
Directions
So that means I have to go to the developers section in the forum, download the ROM and mount it using the Odin ?

Hey, can someone point me to a tutorial on how to root my device? I have a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 4g lte 32gig (aka the sch-i905). Also, would it take off all my apps and such in the process?
Check this link for root files. Review the stickies for how to root, but use the files from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16993221#post16993221
It does wipe your system clean, I think. I haven't personally rooted, haven't really had the need to. But all the apps you bought with the Market can be re-installed again easily.
I think the rooting methods are the same for all. Which is why there is only 1 guide in general.
So, would I download the .zip file attached, drop it into my sd card, boot into recovery, install it, reboot, and viola I have root + SU?
btw my android version is 3.2

JB ... ok, ATM there is only the leaked XXLSJ for our phone.
I recommend to flash CWM in stock recovery (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105 ... Method 1), then flash XXLSJ NeatROM Lite v4.0 (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35066742).
Good luck !

Bcs OTA will make my phone to lose the root access!!

You would just boot into recovery and flash CWM zip file or boot into download mode and flash via ODIN.
This has already been discussed MANY MANY MANY MANY times already, there is no need for these "How do I flash" type topics no matter what version of Android is coming soon the process is same.
Mod edit - removal of unnecessary rant
Before you do anything watch the following video IN FULL. Its not a dig but it explains some things.

Your answers will be revealed to you as you read here - study threads and you'll know. Instructions are always given. No one is here to spoon feed you answers - you are expected to do the work yourself.
I've cleaned this thread up - there is no need to insult, guide - they'll follow
Well, hello. I just got my 9300, and wush to root it. I know there are several ways to do this - CF, CF-auto and so on. What should I use, if I most likely will flash CM afterwards? As far as I understand, CWM recovery is suggested... Is there any rooting method / recovery -comparison thread?
Also, I've the 16 gig model, but I see both /root and internal sd as 11 gig. Is there any explanation on that? I mean, where did the space go? This is so different from Galaxy Ace

I still use the old cf root, just because it always works, then I just flash an updated recovery after, personally I use phils can touch, but there are others out there, I'm just old fashioned!

Agh, just as I expected. 3 replies, one about rules, one about search (did you not think I haven't done that?) And one that was useful. .. But no real answer to my questions. CF-Root it is then.

.......and the missing space is data partition I do believe.
You won't find comparison threads as generally they aren't allowed due to the in fighting they cause. Instead go to development/original development and you will find all relevant information in the original post of each thread
slaphead20: You hit the mark. I think there was something about partitions somewhere - need to check it again. About comparisons, I understand that, thus I'll check them out too. Now, it seems my path is either CF-Root or Toolkit, as CF-Auto returns to factory recovery after rooting.
Mods: please lock/remove if approriate.

If you use cf root update your recovery afterwards (I'm not sure if Chainfire has updated the included recovery for the sds fix) I just flash a recovery image with mobile Odin or cwm
Ps........q go in q&a
