I don't get the menu where it asks you to disable data, airplane mode or reboot. When I hold the power button for 2 seconds my GSII just shuts off. Any reason why this happens? My Note doesn't behave like neither does my original galaxy s. Thanks
Could you please tell some more details,
is it a stock rom? which rom version? (you can find it in about phone in settings)
are you rooted?
when did it happen?
what did you do before it happened?
what did you have for breakfast?
never heard of anything like this before though,
the easiest thing is probably to make an backup of everything and reflash the rom,
or you could try to wipe/factory reset or fix permissions from recovery to see if it helps.
Phone is unlocked international model
I've flashed stock roms 3 times. Gb ics and jb
Here is where I'm at currently
Baseband XXLS8
BUILD XWLSE
I never rooted
The power button issue has been present on all 3 stock roms.
If I hold power button for 2 seconds it shuts phone off.
Do you think its hardware related?

My imei is that generic samsung one 00649... and yes my lock screen does not work. I didn't know why this was happening. Thanks for your help!
I also lost my IMEI no after a flashing a rom, as far as I was aware I had never made a backup of my efs folder, I attempted many different methods to resolve this, then I checked my external SD storage and saw an EFS_BACKUP folder with numerous compressed EFS files, I simply selected one of the early ones copied to my desktop and extracted contents and used them to replace my current efs folder on root of the phone, then reboot and you should have your original IMEI and phone working again, hope this helps goodluck

insert the sim properly with the golden plates down and the cut end outward. Then go to settings>>>wireless>>> untick the flight mode.
I think it's broken
Try reflashing back with the original stock rom.
It looks to me the baseband is not installed properly, and therefore unable to access IMEI, without a working baseband, you are unable to access the phone portion.
It could also be that the nv_data.bin file is damaged due to a bad sim unlock hack. If that is so, you will have to rebuild that file.
Again, try reflashing back to original stock rom, before trying to rebuild the nv_data.bin.
(Sorry to resurrect old-ish topic, but I think it's better to continue here than to make a new one.)
Same problem here, except the only custom thing I've ever run on this phone, is apps from market. I'm running SPB Shell 3D (legal version, but not through Android Market but the other thing SPB was selling their programs through... Handango? Not that it matters.)
The phone has been running ALMOST perfectly since day one. I can only remember two occasions that the phone was in "no reception" mode (the O with slash through it) and toggling Flight Mode on and then off fixed it both times before.
However, yesterday I noticed the icon again, thought nothing of it and switched Flight Mode on. It never went back on again. Googling the problem I bumped into the imei/baseband thing and sure as not, when checking my phone's data there is "unknown" in the baseband version and IMEI is empty.
Trying to enter Mobile Networks settings results in "insert sim" notification.
The phone is (OS-wise) completely stock, I think the only thing I have ever done to it since then was to update it to 2.3.5 via KIES when it became available.
Phone is unbranded and not simlocked and never was. The only alterations are the aforementioned SPB Shell 3D and WidgetLocker. And of course a bunch of "normal" apps, games and such.
I placed a call (which went unanswered for all it matters), then after a short while (five minutes or so) noticed the "no reception" -icon. Then all went to hell.
Tried with three different SIM cards, none work on this phone, all work on other phones. Currently SIM working in Galaxy Gio.
I plan to take the phone to repairs under warranty, I'll let you know what they say and what happens to the phone if I remember.
help!
I have the same problem. The phone is 5 weeks old. I dont know what happened afternight with it :-(

READ the restore IMEI restore EFS posts but first backup data and try a factory reset .
jje
In my case, it was perhaps a bit more extreme. I sent it to the repair shop under warranty, it came back practically new. They had changes most of the innards, including the motherboard. Something had apparently shorted itself and cleared some chip. Hadn't gotten anything more specific out of them and I've even sold the phone since then and got this Galaxy Note.

I have a similar issue with my SGS2
I ran my phone battery until it died and when I rebooted the no-network sign came up.
Now, it show's no baseband, no imei and if I dial *#1234# it shows up as Phone: Unknown
(I think it used to say GT-I9100)
I had a backup efs img and files from way back, and restored that several times along with a factory reset and tried installing different modems both original and others.
It's looking pretty bad.
Any thoughts on what else I can try to diagnose this before I send it back?
TIA, Daniel

Can I read the IMEI from any file in the EFS folder?
When i put in the dialer " *#06# ", the imei is empty, blank, nothing appear !

Nothing work !
What can i do ?
Anybody for to help me ?
Traduction with google :
Well yet again I reflash via Odin then flashed a stock rom old bootloader to try to be back compatible with the jig.
I rebooted and telephone network operational! Imei apparent and the whole shebang!
My joy was short lived as I reboot, network ... more reboot back network ... I press the power button the screen freezes a little and reboot itself ...
Even when I turn it off, he goes out and comes back only after a few seconds ... he is in charge and I do not know if that's the reason ...
In short, everything here is more and more strange.
I must succeed in bringing this absolutely counter to 0 flash! Then keep a stock rom + kernel and correct modem. To erase all traces on the internal SD, a complete wipe / factory is not the guarantor?
Or what to delete and what to keep accurate please?
Edit: even more weird ... When I go through Settings / About Phone / Status / My phone number is completely wrong!
I just try to call the number listed and not assigned! If I call the right number, the two rings my SGS ...
Hi,
I have a problem with my Galaxy SII. But first a little background: I bought it used, the guy i bought if from said the OS is broken, because it requested password to unlock the screen, even when he never set up one (he just installed custom OS and it happened). It was a little weird, that it unlocked itself when I pressed a menu button couple of times. So, the first thing i did was wipe all data and settings, but it didn't helped. Than I installed different karnel and ROM, but it only made things worse: now there is no chance of unlocking it (repetitive pressing menu button does not help any more). So I installed a new karnel/ ROM AGAIN, and it's all the same. Any ideas how to fix it?
PS:
Sorry, if post is posted in wrong category, but i thought Q&A was most appropriate..

I dont think the OS was broken as passwords dont just make themselves by accident.I think maybe it was found or stolen(no harm intended). As for the home button i would imagine it was because the ROM installed had the Double-Click funtion set.Best option is to format System/Data/Cache and flash a stock F/W and hope all goes well.Sometimes a password cant be changed if dont know what it is....even after a flash but I hope it all goes well anyway.
EDIT:After the stock F/W,flash a full wipe ROM also to make sure it gets a good clean up.
Hello there.
So, I flashed the I9100XWLQ2 ICS rom to my gf´s phone. The installation was successful, the problem is that now the phone can not recieve or make any phone calls.
Do I need to change the CSC thing as the original thread says, with the app (have not done it yet because I don`t know which is the CSC code from Perú)?
There is an image with information in front of my wallpaper that can not be removed:

Thanks for your answer.
I don't know how but after 2 or 3 reboots and a couple of hours I can now make and receive phone calls, but the thing in the display is still there.
The IMEI seems to be fine, not really sure if it matches the one on the back of the battery because it was erased by the previous owner of the phone I guess.
Oh, the link seems to be very useful, there is no lockscreen and power button menu as well, I'll try it out.
Is this the safest way to root the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 ?

I followed the steps to root the phone, the CWM showed up, I was able to scroll up and down, but when I tried to select the " install zip from sdcard" option nothing happened, then I tried a few times the "Reboot now" option and an error appeared. I pressed the Power button for a second and the phone rebooted.
Should I try to flash a rooted kernel or try a different ICS rom? Which one are you using?
Hi all,
Just flashed the jellyblast rom onto my s5830i, it's all working except I've got no signal/service.
I've been reading around and found that I might have to install a radio? If so, does anyone have any help as to which one?
Any help much appreciated, or if you need more info please ask.
Cheers,
Jack.

Well I'm using jelly blast no problem... I'm guessing you're using 3.0.5 (latest) did you first flash 3.0.4? If not i suggest going back to stock then 3.0.4 then .5
You might of had some random conflict if you flashed from another custom ROM to Jelly Blast
Also what do you mean radio?
The app? That's included in Jelly Blast, well it is in 3.0.4 (that's what I'm using)
Oh and apparently I'm now meant to tell people to ask questions and stuff in the sticky thread (The one by "iamareebjamal"), or post this in the jelly blast thread to help keep the general section free from spam
The usual Xx James xX only on mobile (XDA Premium)
I think you've lost your IMEI (don't worry it's not lost, this rom somehow can't read your IMEI number). Please check your IMEI number by using *#06# on call screen.
If you can't see your IMEI number, install GalaxyToolbox and check the IMEI from there. If you can see the IMEI from GalaxyToolbox, it means IMEI is still there but rom can't read it.
Please install any other rom. (you can/should backup your IMEI by using GalaxyToolbox before doing anyting on your system)

Search Google for them I would attach links but I'm not allowed

Thanks for bricking my phone.....
it doesn't work my phone can't go into CMW or boot now i would be extremely grateful for some help please.
@jrtbing, lets dig some graveyard mate, shall we First of all jellyBlast was band from XDA ages ago ( not to be mention there are far more sophisticated stable Rom @ Dev sub forum)
As for your problem goes, please remove your battery for ~1 Minute ( don't make any difference though, just for discharging purposes ).
put it back and try press and hold the Volume Up + Home keys and then long press the Power key till the start up screen with “Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i″ logo blinks for two times and you see your desired recovery screen.
If the combo keys provided don't be effective ( due to possible boot loop, corruption of your partitions; kernel ,,etc,,etc,,) we need to check your download mode by pushing (Volume(+) + Volume(-) + Power) simultaneously ,, still no use,, You probably hard-bricked your device mate. USB jig might be your last solution to force your device get into Download mode, nothing will be guaranteed though.
