So far I've tried saber, perseus, and peanut butter and Iike perseus the best. I love the stweaks app that goes along with it for sound. Personally I feel that it gets me the best battery life. I don't over clock I usually stay on 1500 or stock 1600 I just under volt.
Doin' big thangs from my Note Deuce

Perseus.

Used Perseus and PBJ. Both were stable but I think battery life is better with PBJ, even with undervolted settings on Perseus. I did like the audio settings on Perseus, but I added in Awesome Beats which I like even better.

I love perseus!
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app

stock....out of custom i like pbj as its the most stable, but i feel voodoo sound actually degrades sound quality. perseus has too much undervolting and will most likely cause a reboot after 4-5 days up time...not a huge issue. remember overclocking and undervolting offers no real world gains on these multi core devices. what once was is no longer...

+ Another. STweaks rocks :good:

I liked the Perseus but it didnt seem to work with my VPN. I ended up going to Saber.
Hmmm the new one works with VPN.

My own kernel or stock. Only two I'd even consider. The rest are full of unnecessary fluff 90% of people don't need or understand. The only kind of fluff I want is marshmallow, but neither goes well with phones

Perseus, but only for the screen enhancements. None of the stock screen profiles look right to me. Otherwise, I'd be either on stock or something of my own making. I agree with imnuts, all the flashy options in most kernels are entirely unnecessary.

Perseus for Touch wiz, SOAP for a AOSP.

Note2core kernel. The best in speed and battery..

Is there a version of the Perseus kernel out for 4.3 TW ROMs?
sent from my SGH-i317

dont wanna start new thread..point me right looked many places
IM till trying to decide what kernel to flash on 4.1.2 stock tmo root.
I know I want some voltage control and see how that helps battery life. I will keep the clock stock or maybe drop to 1.4 as it is plenty fast.
If that affects my xmbc than I wlll make t stock 1.6.
Regardless Im kind of wondering what someone you think I should use for kernal/tweaker?
there is android tweeker pro, stweaks, trickster mod and so many to choose from.
Im overwhelmed and there is no real definitive threads I see.
I have spent much time (too much) looking at this topic, and just wanna get to the point and see if I can get better battery life.
Again performance is not an issue.
I just want the control i guess im a control freak! lol

Peanut butter jelly. No worthless OC support, no pointless UV control, just good old fashioned stock with boeflla sound for major sound boost.

Thanks! does stweaks let me control the signal booster functions? (ie wifi and cell tower) I can't find much about this but I would like to increase their strength)
Does plasma allow that?
Im still researching these kernels and their UI's I should be compiling everything I find for one ultimata kernel thred but its all out dated and no one cares any way!

I don't know any kernel with signal booster feature. (Plasma is a work in progress kernel but it's blazing fast already.) The dev might add the feature later on. (Request in plasma thread)

Battery life results

I apologize for I know that similar threads have been created but the last one is fairly old. I have mostly been running AOKP for the last few weeks but I recently tried out serendipity- I'll say that I do prefer an AOSP style rom over a samsung rom. I do like customization but battery life is a priority to me. Can someone please give some input to what rom/kernal/governors are being used to maximize battery life?
There is no simple answer to this question. All Kernels and ROMs are good - please refer to Entropy's battery drain thread for common issues affecting battery drain.
Some kernels however offer UV ability e.g. Siyah which allows u more flexibility.
Having said this I saw about the same battery life on most of the ICS roms I tried.
I am currently evaluating custom GB roms to see if the battery life is better.

just play with them, find one that works best for you and your setup.

Custom Kernels

So I am thinking about switching from the Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy Note 2. However I do not see any custom kernels listed in the development section. Do any custom kernels currently support the VZW Galaxy Note 2?
Go to the original development section. There is a kernel there.

No, it shouldn't be hard to port kernels at all for the Note 2, as they all use relatively the same underlying hardware.

I came from the GNex and flashed every combination of rom and kernel. Don't hesitate to get the Note 2 because of a lack of kernel development. The battery life is great and this phone will smoke anything you throw at it running the stock kernel. I have run the Perseus and while it's nice to have the capability to overclock I don't see much of a difference in performance compared to stock.
In short, get this phone.

+1 on that...I am running perseus too and overclocked to 1800 and it didn't seem any faster. Stock is blazing as is. I did undervolt though and stretched moderate usage on 4G the entire time to 1 day 18 hours with 10% left.

You guys that say the Perseus kernel seems to give you no performance boosts are exactly opposite from what I experience... Just don't download those damn profiles and adjust all of the settings within "STweaks"... You can totally customize everything, and if you have the right settings for your phone, then you WILL notice an increase in performance. You can even adjust the Gpu, which is what I like about it, but the kernel is rock solid for me... It is a must have on my Note 2!
I will have to tinker with the performance settings a bit more...I was a little wary of messing with much more that the clock speed and the voltages (and I was conservative with those). I didn't mean to make it sound like the perseus kernel isn't great, it is...more that stock is so surprising good too. I am only a month removed from a droid Charge so everything about this phone still blows m away.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I used my phone (clocked to 1.8 and GPU at 640) and my buddies TMo phone with perseus (stock settings) and we could both tell that my phone was noticeably quicker. It's really hard to tell the difference unless you have two phones like we did.

I just wanted to start a thread here so not to clog beans ROM thread.. We have another kernel for our Verizon TW Roms... I'm sure we will get an official thread from the developer eventually.. Big supporter of Faux. Bought the app waaayyy back when it was released, even before the Note 2 was supported and been using the kernel on all my phones every since my first Android (and his too I believe), the MyTouch4g. One of my favorite phones ever btw.
Anyway, stories aside, I finally got this thing to mount an sd card on boot. Had to go back to my 32gb san disk. Guess I'll drop out my 64gb since I swear by Faux's kernels. Every thing is smooth as butter so far. Running ondemand and gonna let this baby settle and see how long the battery can last. I think I saw on Twitter someone said they got 7 hrs screen on time.
Btw, faux... does this support you faux sound yet? If not, will be putting in support for it eventually?
It supports boeffla sound which is pretty good. Bought the all too myself. Best way to donate.

[Q] Could anyone please help me out with overclocking?

I've already flashed two kernels in hopes of overclocking my Note 1. On one, it hung at the Samsung screen and on the other it booted (after doing something with each app) but kept showing force close messages that I couldn't close.
I really want to overclock my phone because it freezes a lot.
Also, I haven't had any luck with radios, either. These flash okay, but with dramatically slower speeds. Right now, I get on avg. 10 mpbs, but I've seen people with upwards of 50.
How could I do these things? Thanks.

I'm running Blackstar XI with AT&T. And I've only tried flashing overclock kernels, with no success. SetCPU lets me underclock, but the current kernel doesn't let me OC.
Kind of the same with the radios. I've only tried flashing them, with no faster speeds.
Are there other methods then these ways?

Well hopefully your flashing correct kernels for whatever ROM your running first thing ... And the 50mbps is probably due to the LTE speeds tmo released in a few cities .. I'm not saying don't over clock I just don't cause of battery drain ...... You can just watch CPU temperature and be careful ...maybe don't over clock to max just a little bit like 1600 or something

The only kernel capable of over clocking right now is ptmr3s kernel but I believe it only works with that hong Kong firmware. There are older kernels that can over clock but won't work with the latest cm merges. Like Shane said don't max out most notes can't handle it I never go higher then 1792. Over clocking is great but I don't think we will see a over clock kernel any time soon maybe look into scripts and tweaks.

Under clocking does not reduce performance. Mediocre gaming does not need 1.5ghz if you UC to 1.2/1.1 your performance will remain the same... Out of the extra hour of battery life that doesn't reduce performance its kind of a no brainer. Anyways stay on topic.

Compare and Share Your ROM Experiences!

Hello,
I have only had this phone and used Android less than a week. I notice there isn't a thread one easily found to compare the various ROMs. Most of then also seem to be just direct ports so not everything works or unstable.
For those who have tried many of these unofficial ROM/ports, post your experience? Bit late I know but this E970 is still easily the best Quad android in US at least. At least for me, all other quad phones are no longer phones, they are monsters/tablets marketed as phones.
So far my experience:
- RootBox ran very hot, even with smoocha ROM. Trickster or Faux123 mod didn't help. Also had tons of hot boots, with games, camera and other random apps. RootBix WiFi was weak and unstable. Signal kept fluctuating and 5 GHz was unusable.
- Carbon, was first I tried, wasn't able to get it to boot initially. Then crashes. Maybe I will try it again later, actually kinda fuzzy on it. Decided to just try others.
- Beanstalk, so far so good. Works great with faux123 app, battery life better and works well with mpdecision. Also WiFi working great. Camera is stable.
- Using the latest signed gapps from July. And using Venums screen mod, which AWESOME!!
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
FWIW, this type of thread usually gets shut down by mods...they invariably degenerate into "which ROM is better" threads.
There is no "Better" ROM - just what is better for your personal use. My advice is try them and make your own decision. I use RootBox a LOT, and have had no heat issues. I am currently testdriving Beanstalk, and am very happy with it as well.
There are many good choices here! Enjoy the new device.
Cyanagenmod 10.2 is nice so far
Flashed 2 e970's (mine and my wife's) Mine runs awesome.
Her's runs hot and her wifi won't connect...
Looking to try Paranoid Android and Vanilla Rootbox...
Anyone tried those yet?

Love all the ROMs I've tried but I've stuck with RootBox for a while. Just fits too perfect for my needs!

I also had my phone running hot with RootBox, couldn't figure it out for the life of me, tried several kernels at the time, plus I can easily -UV about -150 above anything, not sure what processor I have, when I dmesg | grep PVS, I get a NUMBER lol,
No words. just "acpuclk-8064: ACPU PVS: 3" but I assume this is "FAST"
If anyone has insight into the correlation between random hot running and not, color me curious.
Also, I agree BeanStalk is an awesome ROM, everything about it is sweet, I'm starting to have withdrawals but I'm biased with having built Illusion I think I'm gonna merge that "popup mode from recents menu" feature, that's so smart of a function
Where's the current beanstalk file?
