So I am thinking about switching from the Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy Note 2. However I do not see any custom kernels listed in the development section. Do any custom kernels currently support the VZW Galaxy Note 2?
Go to the original development section. There is a kernel there.

nope. I wish he does though.
The other carrier versions on the note 2 have more kernels, would it be hard to port them to our Verizon Note 2?

good question...I have the same question for roms as well...
No, it shouldn't be hard to port kernels at all for the Note 2, as they all use relatively the same underlying hardware.

I came from the GNex and flashed every combination of rom and kernel. Don't hesitate to get the Note 2 because of a lack of kernel development. The battery life is great and this phone will smoke anything you throw at it running the stock kernel. I have run the Perseus and while it's nice to have the capability to overclock I don't see much of a difference in performance compared to stock.
In short, get this phone.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
+1 on that...I am running perseus too and overclocked to 1800 and it didn't seem any faster. Stock is blazing as is. I did undervolt though and stretched moderate usage on 4G the entire time to 1 day 18 hours with 10% left.

You guys that say the Perseus kernel seems to give you no performance boosts are exactly opposite from what I experience... Just don't download those damn profiles and adjust all of the settings within "STweaks"... You can totally customize everything, and if you have the right settings for your phone, then you WILL notice an increase in performance. You can even adjust the Gpu, which is what I like about it, but the kernel is rock solid for me... It is a must have on my Note 2!
I will have to tinker with the performance settings a bit more...I was a little wary of messing with much more that the clock speed and the voltages (and I was conservative with those). I didn't mean to make it sound like the perseus kernel isn't great, it is...more that stock is so surprising good too. I am only a month removed from a droid Charge so everything about this phone still blows m away.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I used my phone (clocked to 1.8 and GPU at 640) and my buddies TMo phone with perseus (stock settings) and we could both tell that my phone was noticeably quicker. It's really hard to tell the difference unless you have two phones like we did.

Would like to thank all the Beta Testers of my Elite kernel for Nexus 7. They have allowed me to see how low voltages can go in the device. Also, credits go to _motley, fosser2, Cpajuste, pershoot, catch1571, pinoyto, masterg0g0, morfic etc...and to who ever I missed. Biggest thanks to my wife for giving me the chance to do this.
UPDATED 10/19/2012
1. This kernel is updated to utilize the latest 4.1.2 by Google for Nexus 7
2. Same voltages applied as before to extend your battery life
3. Same speed of CPU and GPU
4. Same warning as below.

Now to the kernel
This kernel is basically a STOCK kernel with voltage lowered to the lowest possible settings to EXTEND battery life. No tweaks other than voltages
This are for Nexus 7 users who care more about BATTERY life and LESS HEAT than overclocking.
Here are the changes.
1. Undervolting is NOT POSSIBLE in this kernel. Undervolting has been done by me in the kernel
2. CPU voltages are default to maintain stability but it shines in undervolting the other aspects of the device, ie: pll_c, memory, emc, host1x, GPU 2d/3d bus etc...
2. vdd_core/vdd_rail decreased voltage from 1.2 to 1.1mv
3. emc, pll_c, host1x, GPU decreased from 1.2 to 1.1mv
4. Compiled using Linaro Toolchain
5. Speed of GPU 2d/3d/vde etc set at 400 mhz (close to stock of 416)
6. Backlight default decreased to 5 for better reading at night and decrease battery consumption
Here is the link OR CLICK ON THE BOTTOM
https://rapidshare.com/files/3373858690/ClemsynELITEBatterySaverStock.zip
WARNING:
Due to aggressive undervolting of this kernel. It might not work with your device. So please be very familiar with backup/restore of your device
** If you like my work. Please do not hesitate to click on the DONATE TO ME button and add to my Nexus7 fund and reward my work. It will be appreciated THANK YOU.
git https://github.com/clemsyn/Grouper
I will use this as my daily driver when I'm not testing kernels.
Edit: I just realized that this is stock, I though it was like the previous 1.5 one of the series. Would you be updating on that regard in the future?
Edit2: Temp wont reach 40.0 C 37.0 C being the mac with none to light use.
Edit3: So has anyone tried to see if init.d support is there?
very nice!

If it works with the stock kernel, it will work with this.
Probably not then, you still have to modify the code to enable init.d support in AOSP source. Will give this a go anyway for the battery saving. Thanks for your work.

I'm rooted running stock ics and am looking for an oc kernel. I will consider switching to a custom yet stockish rom in order to accommodate the kernel suggestion.
Please.... I know you've seen this thread before, but I've comed over the development section, searched my ass off, and yes, even Google this.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
why are you so desperate for an OC kernel?
what doesn't your phone do with a stock kernel?
Because I want my new note to run as well as my old note, but I don't want to run the same rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
no 2 phones are the same; setup your new phone exactly the way your old one was, and see if it works exactly like the first one..
adding an kernel that you can OC is NO GUARANTEE that your phone will run "better"..overclocking often causes issues, and based on a lot of your posts that I have read, you probably should not bother with overclocking at this point..
What post have you read that suggest that I don't need an oc kernel at this point? Why are you so against me over clocking my phone. This is my 3rd note and my first 2 ran a hell of a lot better over clocked. I'm convinced that it makes a difference, so do you have a suggestion for me in regards to a specific kernel?

So far I've tried saber, perseus, and peanut butter and Iike perseus the best. I love the stweaks app that goes along with it for sound. Personally I feel that it gets me the best battery life. I don't over clock I usually stay on 1500 or stock 1600 I just under volt.
Doin' big thangs from my Note Deuce
Perseus.
Used Perseus and PBJ. Both were stable but I think battery life is better with PBJ, even with undervolted settings on Perseus. I did like the audio settings on Perseus, but I added in Awesome Beats which I like even better.

stock....out of custom i like pbj as its the most stable, but i feel voodoo sound actually degrades sound quality. perseus has too much undervolting and will most likely cause a reboot after 4-5 days up time...not a huge issue. remember overclocking and undervolting offers no real world gains on these multi core devices. what once was is no longer...

Hmmm the new one works with VPN.
My own kernel or stock. Only two I'd even consider. The rest are full of unnecessary fluff 90% of people don't need or understand. The only kind of fluff I want is marshmallow, but neither goes well with phones
Perseus, but only for the screen enhancements. None of the stock screen profiles look right to me. Otherwise, I'd be either on stock or something of my own making. I agree with imnuts, all the flashy options in most kernels are entirely unnecessary.
Perseus for Touch wiz, SOAP for a AOSP.
Note2core kernel. The best in speed and battery..

dont wanna start new thread..point me right looked many places
IM till trying to decide what kernel to flash on 4.1.2 stock tmo root.
I know I want some voltage control and see how that helps battery life. I will keep the clock stock or maybe drop to 1.4 as it is plenty fast.
If that affects my xmbc than I wlll make t stock 1.6.
Regardless Im kind of wondering what someone you think I should use for kernal/tweaker?
there is android tweeker pro, stweaks, trickster mod and so many to choose from.
Im overwhelmed and there is no real definitive threads I see.
I have spent much time (too much) looking at this topic, and just wanna get to the point and see if I can get better battery life.
Again performance is not an issue.
I just want the control i guess im a control freak! lol

Everything I listed here works and will work with each other. IE.., the trueicons will work on top of a completely custom drop down notification panel..
Again, all these things work on a stock rooted ROM, it looks great and nothing crashes ever. I consistently quadrant from low 13k to 14k. The phone boots official eveytime (no custom with the unlocked padlock) and the battery life is pretty great on fauxU kernel.
So, if you can't find a setup that just does it for you, give these mods a try, tweak everything out and enjoy. Remember to thank the respective devs for their work!

Meh with this amazing hardware we shouldn't see any entropy issues.
It seems to me that a quad core 1.9 ghz processor should be able to handle everything we can throw at it without any lag. Personally, I find the stock s4 to lag slightly. My Note 2 however works like a dream. I guess the different brand of processors really make a noticeable difference.
