When my friend tries to enter recovery and flash a zip from sd card it says Failure: can't mount sd card. Any ideas?

Before flashing a custom rom I was triyng to enable CWM
but when I go to the reboot recovery after placing CWMOn boot global-J.Y.Daddy.zip in my sdcard-ext it is giving me following error. I tried placing .zip file in /mmt sdcard also but result was same .Need urgent help.

Install from sdcard......
Finding update package....
E: can't mount /sdcard/update.zip
Installation aborted.

Seems like you're using the apply update from sd card option instead of install zip from sd card option.
You have to use the "install zip from sd card" option, then select "choose zip from sdcard".
Also put the file on the external sd card instead of the internal sd card since thats what cwm picks up as default sdcard for me.

thanks, but i did, install zip from sd card placing the file on external
sdcard but no luck. is it problem of my memory card or what ?
I installed the wrong PG86IMG file on to the root of my SD card and now I can only run the update or reboot which I don't have a rom on the phone to boot in to so my question is how can I get the SD card to mount on my computer so I can remove the PG86IMG file and put the correct one on. Thank for any help.
pull the sdcard and mount with a card reader?
Boot into recovery with the sd card ejected and then put it into the phone once in recovery, mount as usb....delete the file
Job done (if you haven't got a card reader that is)

But after installing the CWM when i am accessing the recovery mode and trying to zip from the sd card itis giving error.

I was trying to put the RemICS- JB 5.8 on my Gt'i9003 but when i enter the clockwork mode and try to install a zip from the sd card I get a message whic says thht they can't mount the sd card. What should i do?
i installed a custom rom witch softbricked my device and i am stuck in a boot loop so i tryed to mount sd card with a backup version of firmware cwm says Error moountiung /sdcard/.android_secure and Error mounting /sdcard!

Does the SD card show up correctly when mounted to a computer? Does the version of CWM you have known to have SD card issues? What phone? What version of recovery? Have you tried other versions of CWM? Other SD cards?
Providing more details other than it's not working will help us help you.
