[Q] TWRP & CWM dual boot? Is it possible? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I made a stock recovery on CWM...then later I got TWRP and I like it, but if I want my old recoveries I can't get to them. How can I create an option to boot one or the other when booting into recovery?

You will have to install CWM recovery back on the phone to install the CWM backups. Just keep the install file handy.

Can he get to CWM Recovery install from his new TWRP that comes up now when he boots into recovery??
I ask this, because I have(had) CWM and used it.. Then I went and installed TWRP.... and now it works.....
BUT my backup(nandroid) is CWM.....
and while using TWRP..I want to goto CWM and press install... and cannot find the CWM.zip (within TWRP)....
Do I have to goback to Odin and reinstall the CWM??? Where would it go??

Put the CWM install zip the same place you would place any *.zip files to install. TWRP should have no issue installing CWM.

thanks Ray... I did do this.. but TWRP doesn't recognize it.. Could it be because there is only the .tar inside the zip?? it's the zip I used for Odin... maybe I should use a different CWM zip.. I know there's quite a few.. thanks....

Yes... Odin files are not usable in recovery.
You need a zip made to use in recovery.

You will find a zip recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526431

Did you flash ClockworkMod Recovery first??
Either download an update.zip with cwm recovery in the development section or use ROM manager to install cwm.
Then use install from zip in cwm and choose your ROM file from your sd card.
Did install the recovery but the update just wont install when I try to install it from the Tom manager.
Sounds like you're trying to flash the wrong thing. You shouldn't be flashing an update.zip, that sounds like the root file. Make sure you are flashing the correct .zip

the update.zip file is the root file. Whatever rom your flashing will have that name in on the zip file. Follow these steps:go to clockwork recovery mode, install zip from sd, choose zip from sd, then look for rom name on the zip file(example Bionix v5.zip), click on file, click yes, when it's done installing reboot.

updating custom recovery

so i have put the amonRa recovery on my wifes phone but honestly it seems a bit outdated. i use CWM recovery on my phone and was just wondering if i can just replace it by installing the CWM recovery via Rom Manager from CWM
thx
Go to ciaox's flashable recovery thread and download a cwm recovery zip file and flash it.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
flash http://www.mediafire.com/?fs35674qj48j856 this zip file from recovery.
The zip file has 5.0.2.0 clockworkmod , latest one.

[Q] Factory built-in firmware backup

Hello,
is there any easy way to backup my original factory firmware so after I flash a new ROM and I won't like it I can revert back to what factory gave me?
Best you can do is root your phone, and do a nandroid backup in CWRecovery before doing anything else to the phone (flashing a custom rom/kernel/etc). This will give you a 'snapshot' of your stock setup only with root, and all you'd need to do to unroot is flash a stock kernel.
Or you can simply flash a stock rom with Odin over whatever you have at the time.
There's no way to do what you're asking with a stock/unrooted phone.
As mentioned above u can't do it with out rooting. First root your phone without flashing any custom rom or kernel by pasting the zip file in ext sd and apply update using stock recovery. Then download recovery tools from play store and get your temporary cwm touch recovery. After this go to stock recovery and apply this zip. Then do a nandroid backup and reboot after it finishes. You'll have the exact stock rom, kernel and recovery. :good:

I know you guys here don't like such questions, but can I ask for links to that tools? I got S2 Root file but it has to be flashed via Odin. What recovery tools from Play Store? You mean this?: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools&hl=pl
How can I get "my temporary CWM touch recovery"? What ZIP to apply then? Geez! Am I that stupid or it is just language issue? Hahaha

Dont worry dude. i'll try and explain as much as i can.
1. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 and choose the Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip or Root_SuperSU.0.98.Only-signed.zip from the attachments.
2. Paste it in your ext sd card and power off.
3. Reboot into recovery mode and choose apply update from sdcard and select the SuperSU file.
4. Now reboot your device and it will be successfully rooted and SuperSU will be installed.
5. Download temporary cwm recovery from their website or get it via recovery tools in play store. (link provided by you is correct except for different language i think )
6. Paste cwm.zip it in ext sd and reboot into recovery mode. apply update and you will get temporary cwm recovery.
7. Now you can take backup from it. it will backup all your data and both rom, kernel and even recovery will be stock.
Be careful while flashing roms or kernels though. :good:

[Q] Flashable CWM Recovery?

Does anyone have a .zip that I can use to flash CWM recovery? Am stuck with an 'ecrypted data' TWRP bug, and need to flash a new recovery over it. Flashing TWRP .zip over my current TWRP .zip isn't fixing it.
Thank you!

I believe rom manager app will flash the CWM for you then I would suggest flashing the twrp 2.5.0.2

Updating CMW

This may be a silly question but I cant find the answer. I have 6.0.4.3 CMW but I want to try touch is it as simple as downloading the zip and flashing it in recovery?

If you have clockworkmod recovery and are changing to cwm touch recovery or twrp or just an update, then yes it is as simple as flashing the new zip in recovery and rebooting to recovery to access your new recovery. I believe there is a post somewhere here about creating your own touch recovery using an outdated touch zip and an updated normal cwm (changing files in the zip). You may want to search that up but touch is hardly necessary for the time you spend in recovery.
