Stock Verizon Note 2 on latest update. I've noticed my phone will not turn its screen off while I am making phone calls with my ears pressed against the phone. Which is quite annoying as my cheeks will inadvertently press buttons while I am on the phone. When I try downloading a proximity sensory check tool on the play store, the sensor appears to work fine.
Anyone else experiencing issues with the proximity sensor while making calls?
Have you looked in phone settings and made sure auto screen off is turned on?

That would be perfect, by chance, do you know where that option is located? When I go to Settings --> Display I do not see that option, I only see smart rotation and smart stay options.
Open the phone app pull up your menu and then select call settings

Many Thanks! I have no clue how that option was unchecked.

My screen stays on when plugged to a charger or the computer, is anyone else having this problem? It seems like it just started happening all of a sudden

Go under app settings, development, and make sure the keep screen on option is off.

Do you have the option ticked not to turn off screen when charging? If the phone is in debug mode and you flick open the notification menu, you can change some debug settings. One of them being screen sleep while charging.
Sorry to hijack the post, but I love my screen being on while plugged-in but is there a way to prevent it from dimming. I want it to stay at max without dimming, and it drives me crazy.
thanks

Wierd bug here. My phone is set to always vibrate and it does so for incoming calls however for sms I get the sound but no vibration. I've noticed there is no vibrate option in the messaging settings either :| Anyone got any ideas on fixing this?

Are you using the stock messaging app? What rom and phone are you using?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yes, stock messaging app on SGS2 (as the forum states). I'm on stock KE2 and rooted via chainfire's rooting method then reflashed stock kernel.
Have you turned on always vibrate from within the messaging app? Go to all threads in the app, press menu, then settings, scroll down to notification settings, then press the option that says "Vibration" and make sure the option for always vibrate is selected.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I would but the setting isn't even there which is what surprised me most!
EDIT: I found an app to let me enable that vibration and it works now but it should be there as an option by default!!! WTF SAMSUNG!

Hey when I Pinch the Home Screen and it shows me all my screens the GS3 talks and says Home Screen Edit Mode, how do I turn off the talking feature??
Thanks
Uninstall light flow
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I don't have that app.
Its got to be a system setting
Accessibility->Services->TalkBack => Set to 'Off'.
A known issue in Android with Accessibility apps (such as 'Light flow') is that the Talkback is turned back on even tough it should be off.

I noticed that when I receive text messages and my screen is off, it will turn on my screen to show the message. I turned off the message display, but is there any way to prevent the screen from turning on?
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Pretty sure that is a ics feature and i do not know of any way to turn it off. If i recall correctly Jelly bean does not have this feature in it.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
I didn't have it on my e4gt on ics, looks like a common feature on a lot of vendor skins though. I resolved it by switching to go sms.

You can also get SMSPop from the store its free and there is a setting to never turn screen on... had it from day one works great.
got LGOG?
Anyway to make my phone not wake up when I receive a text? I can't find it in the settings or anything. Im also on Jelly Beans.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
this was the same way on the s3, as well as the note, not sure about other samsung devices. but the answer is no. they made it like an iphone, it will wake up no matter what unless you custom rom it with CM or something pure google like.
Ah, really? Well that sucks lol. Oh well, it's not a guge deal or anything.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
There has to be a setting somewhere in the code that wakes the screen up for these texts. Has to be. It doesn't just do it because it does it.
Someone will find it, and make it bend to their will. Just give it time.

I'm not trolling. I just thought it funny that you stated the obvious, that it is controlled by coding. Any application function is controlled by code
No ill will intended.

I decompiled it earlier to look at.
There is no bools.xml so its going to be in a method.
I'll know more once I locate it.
The method that ive been using is this:
Disable sms notification on the native app
Install sms popup
Uncheck the popup when recieved option on sms popup
Configure the rest of the settings
(500ms for light, 5000ms for off time)
???
Profit.

The solution I found that worked for me was to disable all the notifications in the stock messaging app and have light flow control the sound and led notification. I've had light flow on my other Samsung phones and it's proved to be a great investment. Now whenever I get a text i get my sound and my led lights up red and stays on. much better on battery.

A big reason I want it to not pop up, cause I feel that's why my light flow isn't working cause I have it set so screen on makes the notification go away. I don't always want to have to open the app, but want the light gone.

I too use this method of preventing screen flash on text. A little bit of screen time adds up when you are trying to milk your battery for all its got. Not much a huge deal on this phone though

I just went back to using Go SMS, disabled pop up, and now I have no issues. Light Flow works perfectly now, too.
