PDF Reader - Transformer TF300T Themes and Apps

Which PDF Reader do you prefer for this tablet ? Which is the smoothest ? Im using Adobe Reader on my tablet and on my phone (Samsung Galaxy 2) . Im surprised that the same reader is many times faster and smoothest on the phone than on the tablet . How it is possible, the tablet is newer generation and has powerful hardware . Do you have noticed that the pdf readers are not smooth in zooming and fast scrolling ?

I use office suite pro 7

"So I put my phone into airplane mode and threw it... worst transformer ever. -.-" -My friend

I started using Mantano Reader Lite a while back because I thought there had to be something besides Adobe Reader and it's been working real well for me since.
edit: mostly because it works real well with the epubs I use as well, the others might work better for more important things

Kingsoft office is good... And free too.... Lol

RepliGo Reader. Cool editing and highlighting features.

ezpdf is the best IMO - many many ways to edit the pdf and a good layout :good:

I prefer Repligo Reader, for its easy and clean UI. EzPdf is also quite good.

It depends....
Depends upon what you are doing with the PDF.
If you have a bookmarked PDF and want to manipulate it, EZPDF is one of the best out there; if you're looking to browse and want to jump around from page to page quickly, QuickOffice Pro's PDF reader is better. If you are treating the PDF as a book and just reading it, Aldiko has nice features, too.
I find Kingsoft's features stripped down, pretty good for short PDF's of only a few pages.
I have about 6 different readers and it really depends what I'm doing with the PDF.

[APP] PDFs

So I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but loading up a pdf document of slides is very slow on this transformer.
I've used an ipad2 for a couple months now and looking at my lectures was easy. The documents loaded fast and I could zip through them. They were also Clear.
It seems that unless i mess around with each individual slide, it doesn't get "clear" on my transformer. I've tried a few different apps...does anyone have any recommendations?
Repligo and ezpdf are the two best imo.
Personally I like repligo better, but that its just personal preference
Sent from my Galaxy S2
I second Repligo. Leagues better than the garbage native app that comes with the tab. Handles 400+ page, graphic-heavy textbooks just fine.
Another vote for Repligo. Best when it comes to PDFs, especially if you want to mark or annotate.

[Q] Reading rather complex PDFs.

Hello. I am planning to get a tablet and I would like to know how good is a 10in screen (1280x800) for reading PDFs. I don't mean 'text only' pdfs but full books/papers with text/graphics/tables like research papers or magazines. Does it require permanent zooming/scrolling or a full page is readable ? Is it worth waiting for tablets with 'full HD' resolution ? I would rather stay on Android with an affordable TF300 than jumping on the dark side (the new iPad for example). It is mainly for an indoor use.
What about something like this paper:
http://graphics.ucsd.edu/courses/rendering/2005/jdewall/tessendorf.pdf
Thanks a lot for any advice.
I checked your pdf document and the rendering is great.
I am using ezpdf document from the market - and the biggest pdf file I have in my tablet right now is 300mb in size and full of pictures (and texts). I am using my tablet to read medical journals/texts full of high res anatomical pictures and graphs - and it works great. As far I am concerned there is no loss of clarity or details.
I think with regards to the new ipad, there is no doubt the resolution is better - but bear in mind ipad has a lot of limitations (look at the discussions in this forum regarding ipad vs prime). Also prime has superips for better contrast and a keyboard dock that will quickly convert it into a "laptop".
I use Camscanner in conjunction with EZPDF for both work and school, and have yet to run into any problems.
Thank you very much guys, I know about all the limitations of the iPad, this one of the reason why I wanted to stay with Android if possible. I currently got a rooted Desire HD and even if it is getting a bit old, I would never change it for an iPhone. I am using EZPDF too on my DHD and it is great but obviously the screen is very small compared to a tablet. I had a Galaxy Tab 7 for a while, but I was quite disappointed as it was more like a big phone than a tablet so I sold it. (Things are probably better now with some of non official ICS roms). It sounds like I will be able to stay on Android I need to think a bit if I go for the TF201 or the TF300. From what I read, even if the TF300 is not as good as the TF201, it is still a good tablet and should be enough for my needs. It seems also a good option to replace my EEEPC 1000H
As a developer, it will be great too to develop Android apps/games especially designed for tablets.
I'm using my Prime at University as a complete book/notebook replacement, I scanned friends books to searchable PDFs, and using no physical books whatsoever
I also got the Amazon Basics stylus for note taking... and I can say it works really awesome.
For PDFs I'm using EzPDF, rendering is fast and no zooming at all required to read comfortably.
I too use ezpdf...can't go wrong with that!

Opinions of the HTC Flyer

Hello everyone. So currently I am considering getting the HTC Flyer. I can get one for around $160 USD (used but in good condition). Is it worth it? I definitely cannot afford new tablets but a used one with decent specs would do. I am about to enter college in the fall and was wondering if this tablet would be useful for this purpose, specifically because of the pen. Does the pen seem more like a gimmick or is it really useful (like with school and professional related tasks). Also, if I do get the HTC Flyer, can you all share what are great apps to make this device extra handy (apps which utilize the pen, notes and documents).
Recommended accessories would also be nice! Affordable ones that is. The pen is already sooooo expensive (IMHO) and I WANT it!!!
Is it advisable to update to HC or leave it on Android 2.3? I like the new pen features of HC but it seems HC is buggy (from what I read on this forum) and that isn't favorable when I may be taking notes in college with this thing.
I just want to get a device that would help me all round. Some entertainment here but useful in the classroom. I am on a tight budget (still have to get a laptop so please consider that)
I really appreciate everyone's time. I look forward to hearing from you all.
I purchased the flyer specifically for the pen usage and am very satisfied with it. I upgraded to honeycomb and if your main use is for the pen I suggest that you do too. I like the ability to annotate books in either epub or PDF. I like the feature in the stock notes app where you can record and your written notes are time stamped and synced with the recording and ultimately with evernote. however I don't particularly like how writing the notes are implemented (it is constantly wasting time autosaving). if you are just taking notes I would suggest using apps such as quill or papyrus (I myself prefer papyrus - it is very smooth and uses both buttons on the pen). what else I have been doing is using the voice recording app along with apps such as papyrus then exporting them together into the notes app which then seamlessly syncs with evernote (yes I know it seems tedious but I only do this if i really need the lecture recorded). the only thing that I really desire is a fully functional handwriting recognition app. I downloaded a couple of apps (thanks to Gumby) such as notes mobile. they work fairly well however my handwriting is so poor it isn't worth it. my family does much better with it so perhaps you can too.
so all in all if the flyer is in good shape for $160 I would highly recommend it. if i think of anything else to say I will let you know.
The pen functionality is great for annotations on existing documents but it's not easy to take notes, like meeting minutes.
Anyway 160bucks is a nice price if you want a 7" tablet the flyer is great, but if you want to spend just 160bucks to replace a paper book to take notes in class that's going to disappoint you

just wondering which app do you use to take notes? I can see the difficulty if you are using the stock notes app (due to the constant autosaving) but apps such as papyrus are very smooth and I find note taking to be very easy and productive.
So far the stock tool and MS notes, I'll try papyrus and let you know

@ericvv. Thanks for your input. I don't plan on using it to replace "book, paper and pencil". I just want something that can help with making supplementary notes. I really doubt *anything* can replace the pen and pad for serious notes.
Just asking...I remember reading that only ebooks bought from Kobo can be annotated through the supplied app. But...is there anyway to side load e-pub and pdf books and annotate them the same way? Like through alternative apps. The Kobo way would be kind of expensive.
Thanks everyone for you time.
I am using the app LectureNotes daily at my work to scribble down quick notes from meetings etc. It is actually working quite well and it has nearly eliminated my use of pen and paper, but only nearly .

And the developer is legend, I mailed him a couple of times with usability issues and within 3 or 4 days the updated app was on the marketplace. There is a free version to try, give it a spin.

I believe that the standard HTC reader app should let you annotate ebooks. I actually sideloaded an epub on my Flyer and noted that I was able to highlight and take notes on. However, it should be noted that I'm running LeeDroid for Honeycomb, so I have no idea how everything works when the unit is stock.
I initially purchased the Flyer because it was cheap and slightly more portable than my HP Touchpad (running CM9) for travel purposes (i occasionally need to run Citrix to access my company's desktop). I also preferred it over the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet due to the existence of the cameras (I skype with my grandmother in Asia). Plus, the battery life on this thing is phenomenal. The fact that I got it for about $170 just made it all the sweeter. The only downside thus far, in my opinion, is the lack of ICS. I know a lot of people have commented that it is a single core machine. Since I don't really play any games on the tablet, this is a non-issue for me.
I thought that the pen was a total gimmick and unnecessary. For most of my uses, that is true. However, I figured out that my office can send me PDF documents, which I can sign using the pen, save the signed PDF, and send it back to my office. This does not happen that often, but it's a pretty neat feature to have.
Thanks everyone for the input. I made the plunge! I know this is off topic but...the Flyer I bought doesn't include a USB cable, only the charger. Would the standard USB cable work for this for PC connection? I really do hope so. Accessories for this thing already aren't cheap!
Yes normal usb cable is fine, for accessories look on eBay is not bad eve of for genuine HTC parts.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using XDA Premium HD app
That's where I normally buy my accessories. I looked for the OEM cable which is a bit pricey IMHO. I will use my old USB cable! IS it slower or anything to transfer data with this cable though?
No I didn't isn't, the port is only different from mechanical point of view to prevent that you put other devices on the flyer OEM charger and damage them.... The amount of amps is just dangerous for over devices..
For example when my wife uses her ipad charger to charge her iphone the phone gets really hot and probably would be damaged if kept on to long.

Using tablet in class

Well, I just got myself an OTG cable for my Nexus 7. It's currently connected to a keyboard and I'm actually typing on it right now.
Since I just got my tablet, I'm not sure if I want a laptop. I have a desktop at home if I wanted to do homework, but in class I could bring my tablet.
Do you think it's silly to take notes in class with a tablet/keyboard combo? I'll probably use Supernotes too, unless there is a better note taking app.
Is it even practical either?

It's all a matter of personal preference personally I use a netbook for taking notes in class, but several people I know and my friends who have tablets use a a tablet and keyboard combination for taking notes (Ranging from ASUS Transformer to Ipad with bluetooth dock keyboard cover) and it works great for them. If you want to go light and the tablet/keyboard combo works for you I say go for it. Also check out Evernote, in my opinion the best mobile note taking app out there right now, plus it easily syncs with your Evernote notes on your desktop, on pretty much any OS and you can also edit your notes easily and conveniently from the web.

Catch is good but I feel as if Evernote is more polished, less buggy, and works better cross platform. Plus for me while the interface felt nice, things didn't necessarily seem as intuitive as they could have been, nerveless it is still a good alternative to Evernote. I also use AK Notepad by the people who make Catch for real simple quick and dirty note takings (Have been using that since early on with my Droid 1).
Over here in my school its compulsory for everyone to have a *cough* iPad *cough* (because its simple to use... really??), yeah I prefer it to pen and paper. Much faster and I get more customisation choices, screw different coloured pens... they're all on Google docs and I share them with everyone plus they don't get lost. Love it.

Nexus 10 vs iPad For Web Browsing

The Web is still full of sites which use Flash which is why Adobe are still supporting Flash on Windows laptops and desktops for the forseeable future.
On Android there is excellant desktop support for Flash using premium browsers such as Dolphin, Skyfire, Boat etc. which provide the same Web experience on the Nexus 10 as using a Windows laptop or desktop.
However, because Apple does not support Flash then the iPad will never be able to use the Web as well as the Nexus 10 or a Windows laptop or desktop no matter how many apps there are to compensate.
Erm...okay?
so what's the question... xD
This. If only Flash was dying, but it isn't. Half the web is Flash, and if you want streaming, an OS that supports it is a must.

Sould I state my opinion with question marks? Hell, why not?
Which devices gives you the more complete browsing experience, the one that can display all pages and content, or the one that cannot?
You do know that browsers like skyfire and puffin are available for the iPad as well and support flash pretty well right?
Neither will do it out of the box. Both do it with 3rd party apps.

Yeah but Adobe had longer support for Android, so I'd imagine flash content is more stable even post-ICS.
Apple has 3rd party apps that support flash as well.
I would typically not be using flash in day to day Web browsing, and don't have my primary browser set to support flash.
Both tablets are pretty good for Web browsing. The n10 loads pages very quickly. I prefer the aspect ratio of the n10 for Web browsing compared to the iPad.
I don't care about flash
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
Who cares if the iPad can't run Flash. Flash is being deprecated all over the web. I don't have any special love for Apple but you can credit the iPad's lack of Flash for most of the video sites offering HTML5 instead.
I haven't bothered to install Flash on my Nexus 10. Not missing it at all.
What gives you the most complete web experiance ? The the new surface rt lol. What is the point of this post it is pointless and only brings up android vs apple.
Some one please close this thread its people like this that give android a bad name.

Can anyone confirm this for me as I have not got a ICS or later device (yet).
If a website has a menu structure where the user hovers the mouse to get the menu to pop up on desktop, if the root of the menu had a link in android you could never get into the menu structure because whenever you press to bring up the menu it actually redirects you to the page, whereas in iOS it does not do that and will bring up the menu.
That is one disadvantage I have with Android, if there is a fix that I am not aware of then yea inform me
Ok aside from flash, my big concern after owning a tf300 is just over all expereince..the tf300 was slow...tried every browser and it just wasn't as responsive. i know that most people blamed the I/O on the TF300.
At work we just got a shipment of Ipad 4's and just messing with them and surfing the web it is very fast and fluid. Can i expect the same from nexus 10? I konw the Chrome browser is not the best, but maybe using Dolphin or boat?
I have only seen a couple of youtube video's testing this
