There seems to be no mention of the TF201...

I have to look up that thread where people used the TF300's update on the Prime when Jellybean initially came out.

hate Asus
i had a TF101 and asus did the same thing to that too ...
they didn't support it after 1 year of release .
i will never buy any of Asus products again .

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Although it was posted on November, I hope it's still true:
http://www.androidauthority.com/asus-android-4-2-update-works-transformer-tablet-versions-133015/
Plus, the TF300 did get 4.1 before our Prime, so I still have my hopes up.

lol
so predictable
ROM on, my friends. ROM on.

Its all very well saying rom on... But how long will devs be deving? ROMs are already thin on the ground. Anyway asus should be supporting our tablet.
Guess we will have to wait and see.

I own a TF300 which got it today but I do feel sorry for Prime owners. Samsung did the same to Tab 10.1 owners. The Prime is more than capable.
Although, there could still be hope as other models weren't mentioned either (i.e Padfone 2).

Well, they had said in November that the Prime would be getting the 4.2 update, so I guess we have to wait and see.

I work at Best Buy and installed the update on our display model. I added a user account so that we could show off that feature (unique in the android and iOS tablets we stock) and played around with it a little. I was quite impressed, the user switching works well but is a little laggy on the change over, however it loads everything so once you unlock it's quick. Asus have really changed the camera app (I think, it's very differend to the one on my Prime) but I didn't have a lot of time to play about with it - photosphere wasn't obvious. There is a setting to toggle the new UI so you can stick with the old notification position etc. if you choose. The lock screen widgets look nicely implemented but I have only used them on my Nexus 4 before and never had my hands on a Nexus 10. The lack of any installed apps limits the number of available widgets and their usefulness.
Hope this helps.

They removed Photosphere (although I don't need it).
It's definitely faster than Android 4.1.
It's good of Asus to provide options (in case a select few don't want to change the UI).

Asus is actually one of the faster technology companies to upgrade/update their products. I seriously doubt it'll be the end of the year before the update.

Actually its really predictable that Asus will no longer support the Prime... just hoping developers on XDA and all the people here keep this Prime thread alive and keep our Prime "alive" !!

Refunding Prime. What Tablet Next?

So im gonna refund my Prime for now and I'm wondering what tablet I should look into next. Im thinking:
Infinity Pad
If it fixes the weak wifi and non-existent gps on my Prime then I'm probably going for that.
Windows 8 Tab
-When are they even gonna be released?
-Any chance to get W8 if I get an Android tablet? What about dual boot?
Crapple iPad 3
Gotta admit it is the smoothest tablet on the market with the greatest app (both phone and tab) selection. However, the lack of customization and widgets (why can't you friggin put widgets on the desktop. all the screen estate for icons?) and good multitasking is a letdown. If they offer something intriguing I might just have to go for that.
What do you think about those options? Any other options?

Maybe if the "new parts" came in a fixed everything. Not holding my money for that tho.
I hear the Kindle Fire is pretty spiffy.
Why did you refund the prime? problems with it? You must have been part of that 1% thingy.
TF700? If you want to wait. OR get better prime. Mod it? Drill some holes in it. Prime loves holes.
just look at my thread, "Closer look at the competition". it has tons of videos in there and links.
Have you looked at the Galaxy Tab 8.9? That was my next go-to.
Asuming you're looking for 10.1", I'd skip any of the first-out Teg2 tablets because of their hobbled video. The newer LTE G-Tab's sold by the carriers are Qualcomm if you need something today. You can probably pick one up on CL/eBay without needing to activate it. Next up would be the mid-gen tablets that are here now or will be shortly like the Toshiba Excite (TI), G-Tab 2 (Exynos?), and Note 10.1 (Exynos). Further down the road are next-gen tablets including the TF300/TF700, Acer A510/A700, and Samsung 11.6. HTC's supposedly working on a Teg3 tablet but it seems to be MIA. And with the bizarre Xyboard, who knows what Motorola's doing.
Im looking for a higher end $500 tablet. More looking into future tablets since I don't see any reason to get any other Android tablet on the market right now other than the Prime.

Updates to continue?

Hey everyone, my prime will be delivered tomorrow and I am extremely excited, but after being on the forums and hearing about the new tablets asus will be announcing I began to worry about my investment.
I'm beginning to worry about whether the prime will continue having steady upgrades and ultimately a jump to the next android OS. What do you all think?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
yes it will continue to be sold and supported. we actually have an update that should be coming between now and next week sometime(i hope what i was told holds true). Asus has the best firmware support when it comes to updates n such. so there should be no worries on that part. plus with developer support here in xda, you in good hands.
I honestly don't want to think anything as that would be spreading rumors.
However, if the TF300T and maybe TF700T firmwares will be mostly compatible with the TF201, then there shouldn't be any problem.
The TF101 is still very well supported by Asus. In my opinion, Asus provides hands down the best, and most timely, ongoing support. They're awesome in that regard.
PS - my Prime and dock was delivered today and is waiting at my house. Really excited!!

All you have to do is take a look at what is happening with the original Transformer which has been out for over a year now. The Prime was released several months ago yet the 1st gen is still getting updates (including ICS). So you shouldn't really be worried about this at all. Like others have said ASUS is really good about keeping their products up to date as far as software goes.

ah hah..lol its a stud then? told you
Sorry OP, we're going off topic here, but my 30 minute impression after owning the Prime...
Hardware-wise, this thing exudes quality in a way the 1st gen Transformer could never dream of. Really, really awesome. Keyboard and trackpad are substantially improved as well. Device performance is definitely making a good first impression.
Super happy so far. After jumping on the original Transformer at launch, I was thinking I'd skip the Prime and wait for the next generation. Well, I guess I got bored. Plus I was really in love with the Prime's style in a way that the upcoming 700 couldn't quite match. Went with the Champagne by the way, not as big a fan of the amethyst or whatever it's called, which I looked at in a local Best Buy.
I've got a firmware update pestering me but I'm going to hold off until I do a bit more reading on the current situation. I understand the latest firmware isn't rootable, and I'm not yet sure I'm ready to void my warranty with the Asus unlock.
Anyway, glad to be aboard!
Total stud so far, thanks for the encouragement to go for it! I even had gps lock in the house! We have 2 wifi routers, so I can't imagine a wifi problem. Will venture to the yard tomorrow and see how far I can get. Gotta figure out what else to try on it. Pinball was fun :-D ohhh, and the screen is amazing. I'll be able to read at park and waiting for kids ball this summer with no problem. I need sunglasses for the super ips+!

Totally agree about the screen. In addition to brightness, I'd say the TF201 has a bit of an advantage in clarity and contrast over the TF101 as well - which I consider to have a very good screen. I was always really impressed with the TF101's screen, even compared with my Galaxy Nexus which blows it out of the water in terms of pixel density, black levels, and color saturation.
This is fun!

If you must have a quad-core why not the TF300T, its cheaper Wifi and GPS works and you probably wont feel as bad if it does not perform well.
I have the Prime and I can tell you now that the performance is not what you will expect from a quad core and not worth it for the premium price.
I own both and love my prime, It's so much thinner and sexier looking. hehe It does have it's fair share of QC issues, so I would read through the forum to learn about the most common ones. I've had two and decided to settle on this 3rd as it only has a little backlight bleed but I have yet to see a prime(and I've seen about 6 of them including the 2 I had and 1 I have now) or a tf 101(and I owned a few of them too 1 16GB model 1 32GB model and a replacement 32gb model) that had ZERO backlight bleed. I mean absolutely none. And I noticed on two of my primes on a side angle the screen washes out, or appears to have a glow to it compared to the tf 101. but yes, overall it's much better than the tf101.
Thanks for your replies!
I guess I really would like a quad core tablet that could use my dock, so prime is the way to go right?

prime is the way to go. I have a great working one. well worth it. some have issues but not the case with all primes, like some like to make it seem like.
prime has its own dock though. you can't use any new transformer tablet with old tf101 dock. every tablet has its own matching dock. you get a prime. you will have to buy dock made for prime. you buy a 300, you will need dock for 300 model. not interchangeable. prime dock rocks though. you can get 18hrs. rated battery life with prime n dock combined. real life it like 16hrs. depends on usage. its possible to pull 18+hrs.
I would hold off on the prime until the galaxy note 10.1 drops to see how it compares. So far most devices with Tegra3 haven't been all that.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Honestly I would stay away from the prime. I have one of the latest and despite the recent updates I would consider it flawed. The weak wfi and crappy gps I could not recommend this at all.
Add another vote for wait, there are way to many possible better options right now and in the near future. I would most certainly hold off until after this update to see if it fixes things. So far the main things the prime can do that my OG transformer couldn't is some games, the screen and play mkv out of the box. But playing video on my tab will cause it to reboot. Lastly, if possible check out windows 8 see if this appeals to you because this will be another option.
Also my prime has never out performed my original transformer (other than what I mentioned above) OC'ed running the Revolver roms HC or ICS. Just my 2 pennies.
It's worth it imo. I have one of the early BC models and I love it! Check out the Positive Tranformer Prime thread I have linked on my signature. Good place to start at. Most of everyone is quite happy with there TF201s.
Currently Prime aren't so great on the current firmware and if u have to wait for the next one, u might as wait for the Galaxy Note 10.1 too.
Sooner or later someone will do a Galaxy S III vs Prime video and the results probably won't be pretty to Asus users but I imagine it tells u what the Note 10.1 would do.
Simply put... do your own research & test it out at retails stores if possible. Reading reviews or getting recommendation from forum isn't the way to go with Transformer Prime. Simply put, do your own research (including other tablets) & decide what is best for you.
As for Transformer Prime, you will either hate it or love it. There are Primes with issues (not just s/w but I'm talking about h/w) & there are Primes without any issue (or just satisfactory to each individuals standard). It is 50/50 (I'm being generous here although.. I could just as be bias as I am frustrated with my Prime) in ratio/percentage.... & you are seriously taking a risk. However, if you purchase a Prime without any issue... it really is a nice device (at least in theory to me as I have Prime with issues).

Its hard to get an accurate pic from research or even playing around from one or two store test units.
So many people report so many problems yet so many responses coming back with fixes, also possibility of further firmware updates, hardware duds etc.
The volume of complaints is definitely off-putting and personally I don't see any advantage in 1080p screen @ 10" size, just drags down performance so I can't see the pixels anymore if I squint, big whoop. Heck I think the 1080p screen in my 15" laptop is overkill lol.

if you mean other than asus, yes. BUT it will be a while before it is seen. its more so on the win8 front of other tablet makers coming out with a keyboard dock. no releases anytime soon for competing manufacturer tablets with docks.
Its your call. Asus is leading the pack right now on the Android tablet front with Nvidia's tegra3. Whether Android or the upcoming win8 tablets. 300 is fine. Prime is fine. Infinity pad will be fine. all have tried and proven keyboard dock solutions which add extra versatility and extra battery life. it turns prime into almost a whole new beast. Once i got my keyboard dock for my prime, i could now see what all the hype was over it. the dock is a must have. plus it functions as a stand for your prime also
Tegra3 is where its at right now.
Just check out the thread link in my sig called Positive Transformer thread, and you will see testimonials of Happy prime owners. Its just the flip side to those with issues. Everything needs balance.
good luck with deciding. Like others have said, DECIDE FOR YOURSELF
prime is sexier, no doubt.
300 is more functional and quite a bit faster at less expense.
Overall if you upgrade to a 300 i dont think you would be dissapointed. Prime is nice but really for what you will notice, 300 is better i think. YMMV

Do we think the Prime will get JB?

Well for me the Nexus 7 is just too small on the storage and lack of connectivity through HDMI and micro SD so I am probably gonna stick with the Prime which has served me pretty well. Since ASUS made the Nexus 7, is it likely we will see them release JB on the rest of their android lineup?
As the hardware seems to be fairly identical this should be no problem...
I believe it has a mhl port though so there is hdmi
Well I guess, I really just wish though it had a micro SD card and some more storage.
I'm pretty sure it will. I mean... come on, it debuted just six months ago in the US, even later in Europe... And no updates already? It would be crazy.
Since the Nexus 7 is also a Tegra 3 and they had the chance to work with JellyBean for a while now I would expect an update not to far away.
I'm just curious if the UI of the Nexus 7 is a new tablet UI of JB or they just did it to push the Store a bit more into the front on the Nexus 7.

Yes, it seems a little interesting that they used the phone sort of Android 4 for the 7" tablet. Most 7" tablets I know of use the tablet version of the OS.
I think ASUS will not make jellybean for prime! Way?? Here is 2 new tablets TF300 and TF700..marketing gimmick it is same with Tegra 3 and overclocking prime 1.3GHz, infinity 1.6Ghz

Of course they will. The TF101 got ICS after... a year or so?
They would be CRAZY to dump the 201.
I think they will
I think they will release Jellybean for the Prime and the reason is simple, they seem to not want to dedicate too much time to fix the issues on Prime with ICS, and maybe the experience is smoother with Jellybean, and since hey are already developping for Jellybean it will be more cost effective to work on one OS since the Nexus have about the same hardware as Prime.
i think they will, but im really doubting if asus is ever gonna be able to fix issues with prime

Thought about the same. And I bet we are going to get JB before all other Android devices besides Nexus series.

The Prime will get JB at some point. The real question is whether it will be perform any better than the Prime performs w/ ICS. I doubt it, considering how incompetent Asus has proved to be.
the ICS issues are fixed with androwook
Simple answer - hell yes
Even if not from Asus, which I bet they will, from the dev community for sure. No doubt in my mind.
If I were Asus, I would just bail out on any more ICS efforts... what's the point now that JB is available throw your resources at that and forget ICS for the TF201.
Yes it will come to prime and probably to tf101 too.
Asus actually mentioned this some months ago , they want to be the first again. unfortunally i cant remember where.
Since we have almost the same hardware it will be piece of cake for asus to get it to the prime.
Hopefully a better base!
Didn't had much problems with my prime so far.
We also shouldn't forget that the Google Staff is using the Prime as well for their weekly App & Game review shows. As far as I've read the Nexus 7 doesn't support MHL adapter for HDMI out so they might stay with the Prime for their show and I doubt they want so use old ICS
So far I'm happy with the updates ASUS is giving us. Sure, I had the screen flickering issue for a long time and it took them a while, but at least they give us updates and try to fix the problems which not many companies in the current tablet market do.

Well, if the current problems are related to software, as in ASUS can't get ICS to work properly on the hardware (T3 SoC), there is now a very good working copy of JB on the same hardware.
One would think it would be far easier for ASUS to take that software, add some ASUS stuff but leave the inner workings the same (and working properly).

Yeah.. It's weird because even that i have a few issues with my Prime i will still say it's the best product i ever touched!
Biggest issue is that sometimes my keyboard dock wont work.. I have to use the tablet without the dock for like 5-10 min. and then connect it to the dock again to get it working

Saying that the Nexus 7 has about the same hardware is not that true, the processor, for example, is not the same : our prime has a T30 the nexus a T30L with lower CPU and GPU clock and problably a slower RAM (DDR2) ... http://www.anandtech.com/show/6054/google-nexus-7-mini-review
Whatever the hardware are similar, the prime is not just a 10 inch Nexus 7 : there is a dock, microSD/SD and USB port and probably more we don't know ....
Since our Tegra 3 is better than the nexus 7 one, I think JellyBean will be amazing in our Prime

[Problem Description]
Will there be an upgrade beyond Android 4.1.1 or have you abandoned the TPtf201.
Dear Richard,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Emma and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem.
In order to enable consumers to enjoy the best experience, ASUS Transformer Pad Prime TF201 starting with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and then update to Android 4.1 JellyBean.
In view of the Jelly Beam 4.2 upgrade, asus assess 4.2 will occupy larger hardware space which will lead to insufficient storage space. And it need to remove a number of preloading software and function.
In order to ensure a good user experience, ASUS recommends users to use Android Jelly Bean 4.1 and will not provide 4.2 or other upgrade services.
Thanks for your kindly understanding.
Once again, thank you for choosing ASUS products.
Have a great day!
If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best Regards,
Emma

Depends on what other headaches you want..
I have been running with the Nexus 10 for some time as a stand alone tablet.. And while it is a great tablet and has done the job I wanted and handled just about everything I have thrown at it, it does come with a stack of problems as well.. in my case after not even two years the screen has developed a yellow tinge on white backgrounds.. Google it and you will see its a problem that both and Google and Samsung are none too keen to tackle. As there is no replacement screens around to change it. Only refurb ones that are fetching a good awful price on ebay.
I have been playing with the TF201 with Zomi-x and are liking it.. while not quite the screen that the N10 has it seems to handle it well enough..
Also I am playing with the TF300 and my old TF100 again..
so even thinking that the TF700T might be the call as plenty of support for it within the community.
So its all up to your user experience and budgets..
but for a run around, the TF300T is a nice little tab and the price you can pick them up for on ebay now is great.
