Well for me the Nexus 7 is just too small on the storage and lack of connectivity through HDMI and micro SD so I am probably gonna stick with the Prime which has served me pretty well. Since ASUS made the Nexus 7, is it likely we will see them release JB on the rest of their android lineup?
As the hardware seems to be fairly identical this should be no problem...
I believe it has a mhl port though so there is hdmi
Well I guess, I really just wish though it had a micro SD card and some more storage.
I'm pretty sure it will. I mean... come on, it debuted just six months ago in the US, even later in Europe... And no updates already? It would be crazy.
Since the Nexus 7 is also a Tegra 3 and they had the chance to work with JellyBean for a while now I would expect an update not to far away.
I'm just curious if the UI of the Nexus 7 is a new tablet UI of JB or they just did it to push the Store a bit more into the front on the Nexus 7.

Yes, it seems a little interesting that they used the phone sort of Android 4 for the 7" tablet. Most 7" tablets I know of use the tablet version of the OS.
I think ASUS will not make jellybean for prime! Way?? Here is 2 new tablets TF300 and TF700..marketing gimmick it is same with Tegra 3 and overclocking prime 1.3GHz, infinity 1.6Ghz

Of course they will. The TF101 got ICS after... a year or so?
They would be CRAZY to dump the 201.
I think they will
I think they will release Jellybean for the Prime and the reason is simple, they seem to not want to dedicate too much time to fix the issues on Prime with ICS, and maybe the experience is smoother with Jellybean, and since hey are already developping for Jellybean it will be more cost effective to work on one OS since the Nexus have about the same hardware as Prime.
i think they will, but im really doubting if asus is ever gonna be able to fix issues with prime

Thought about the same. And I bet we are going to get JB before all other Android devices besides Nexus series.

The Prime will get JB at some point. The real question is whether it will be perform any better than the Prime performs w/ ICS. I doubt it, considering how incompetent Asus has proved to be.
the ICS issues are fixed with androwook
Simple answer - hell yes
Even if not from Asus, which I bet they will, from the dev community for sure. No doubt in my mind.
If I were Asus, I would just bail out on any more ICS efforts... what's the point now that JB is available throw your resources at that and forget ICS for the TF201.
Yes it will come to prime and probably to tf101 too.
Asus actually mentioned this some months ago , they want to be the first again. unfortunally i cant remember where.
Since we have almost the same hardware it will be piece of cake for asus to get it to the prime.
Hopefully a better base!
Didn't had much problems with my prime so far.
We also shouldn't forget that the Google Staff is using the Prime as well for their weekly App & Game review shows. As far as I've read the Nexus 7 doesn't support MHL adapter for HDMI out so they might stay with the Prime for their show and I doubt they want so use old ICS
So far I'm happy with the updates ASUS is giving us. Sure, I had the screen flickering issue for a long time and it took them a while, but at least they give us updates and try to fix the problems which not many companies in the current tablet market do.

Well, if the current problems are related to software, as in ASUS can't get ICS to work properly on the hardware (T3 SoC), there is now a very good working copy of JB on the same hardware.
One would think it would be far easier for ASUS to take that software, add some ASUS stuff but leave the inner workings the same (and working properly).

Yeah.. It's weird because even that i have a few issues with my Prime i will still say it's the best product i ever touched!
Biggest issue is that sometimes my keyboard dock wont work.. I have to use the tablet without the dock for like 5-10 min. and then connect it to the dock again to get it working

Saying that the Nexus 7 has about the same hardware is not that true, the processor, for example, is not the same : our prime has a T30 the nexus a T30L with lower CPU and GPU clock and problably a slower RAM (DDR2) ... http://www.anandtech.com/show/6054/google-nexus-7-mini-review
Whatever the hardware are similar, the prime is not just a 10 inch Nexus 7 : there is a dock, microSD/SD and USB port and probably more we don't know ....
Since our Tegra 3 is better than the nexus 7 one, I think JellyBean will be amazing in our Prime

I've got a Xoom. It's cool but it kind of bogs down sometimes with live wallpapers and other stuff open. Did anyone go from the Xoom to the Prime? Is it worth the money for the performance?

I didn't go directly from a Xoom to the Prime, but I owned a Xoom. I would definitely say the Prime is worth the cash. The developer support isn't there yet, but it's coming, and this tablet is a beast. (That is if you can find one you can tolerate)

I don't have any issues with mine. I traded for my initial Prime here in the for sale section with Killster. He'd already opened and verified that it had a serial and was upgraded to ICS. A little bleed in one of the corners, but it is barely noticeable.
My second is coming from the for sale section here as well. I've been guaranteed that it is issue free as well.
I came from the Xoom and the Prime is much better. One of the first things I did was try out the galaxy live wallpaper that I really like but couldn't use on my Xoom because of the lag it caused. The Prime is running with that wallpaper with no lag at all. Totally smooth. I had to return my first Prime because the wifi started loosing signal range after a week all of a sudden. My 2nd prime has been perfect so far. I really like the tablet and the dock makes it even better. Highly recommend the upgrade.
Considering xoom is only dual core then ya it will be better. I have an Acer dual core tablet and it will lag with most live wallpaper and using HDMI to TV. Some games are not as smooth either when panning like shadowgun or mc3.

Yeah, I'm sure it's faster, but I wanted to get an idea how much faster. After I sell my Xoom on eBay and buy a new Prime, I'll probably be out $150-$200, so I wanted to make sure that there would be at least some pretty significant performance increases.
Is there anything coming in the next few months that will out perform the Prime? I thought I read that there is a new Prime coming out with a plastic back or something for better wifi connectivity. And I'm definitely not interested in the iPad.
I'm coming from the xoom & now i have the prime & the keyboard dock but i will be getting the TF700 when it comes out.The Prime is way better than the Xoom.

If you keep it honeycomb then for general use like web surfing you probably wont be able to tell the difference as there is still some lag with stock browser. Where you see the difference is in screen swiping and app drawer. Prime is pretty much lagfree 99% of the time. Also when hooking it up to TV via HDMI the Prime doesn't stutter or lag at all regardless what app or screen your in. And if you upgrade Prime to ICS then this is where you will see a huge difference even in browsing as there is barely any stuttering or lag. It's worth the $150 extra you have to pay to get it IMO.
Now if you want to wait for the next asus 700t then you will need to fork up another $100 so you will be down $250. From what I read the 700t is going to be retail at $599 for the 32gb. Not official yet though. AND you have to play the waiting game till they officially release the product to market. By then probably a few more months another device will come out by another manufacturer. So you can wait for that again.

I still have the Xoom for development and have a UK prime with the keyboard dock.
The Prime is running ICS and Xoom 3.2, so not a direct comparison, and I leave the Prime docked all the time, as it's nice to have a full screen when typing and it gives you amazing battery life.
Prime has better screen; tablet is lighter (but heavier docked); faster, especially when in browser. I had the free Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for Xoom, but never really used them, as it was too awkward to carry, but the Prime is like a Mac Air with touch. But be warned, you'll start touching your laptop screen after using the Prime docked for a while
Only thing that is a pain is no use of the ubiquitous micro USB, so no spare leads...
So yes, get it if you can afford it, but get the keyboard dock

Got my prime, but have to return it today because of ligth bleed, and poor gps/wifi. Its in Denmark and the serial starts with C.. so we also have bad primes.
Anyways, the Xoom 32 Wifi Only is almost ½ the price atm, so im really considering it.
How good has the Xoom become with ICS compared to the Prime with ICS?

No matter if xoom get Android 5.0. It won't never be better than a prime it has old dualcore. If you want to save money just get the xoom then. If you want the latest greatest most powerful tablet out, get the prime. Prime will be more futureproof with the power it has. You get the xoom, you will still end up getting another device soon based on how slow it is. So it's really a waste. Just get a prime again, and that'll last a long time without being outdated or seeming like it lacks power.
im getting what you're saying..
but to be honest. Sometimes holding the prime im getting crazy about that sd card sticking out. I also think its to thin/sharp at the edges.. but I also like its thin..
im just confused.. I just need to know if browser/mail/casual gaming/720p-videos are almost the same experince rigth now.. and yes. maybe I'll upgrade around fall/chrstimas again, but thats ok with the low price.
In the end you will end up spending more if you get the xoom now knowing you'll get rid of it later. I'm sure you will lose a lot money on it if you sell it and all these new tablets with better spec will be out by then. Then you have to fork up cash for the new tablet. And it's possible those new tablets could also have their own issues.
Is the ASUS Trandformer Prime the only quad core tablet currently available at present or are there others that i don't know about?
I have to say im very disappointed with the Prime, initially i was very excited with the impending release of this tablet the specs and design looked to be absolutely amazing and i was definitely going to get one but having been a keen observer of the ASUS Transformer Prime forums on XDA it's makes for grim reading, most of what im reading are people having multiple problems from GPS to WiFi to random reboots to the tablet freezing, etc, etc, etc i did say a few weeks ago i would give it more time to see if many of these issues were to be resolved but it doesn't appear this has happened so i couldn't justify paying big money for what is essentially a product that will not work the way it should and frankly i think ASUS rushed the release of this due to overwhelming demand whereas i think they should have spend much more time testing and testing to ensure absolutely everything worked 100% the way it should so im very disappointed but i still want a tablet,no real rush am willing to wait maybe 2/3 months but what are my options, i would be looking for something similar specs to the Prime and obviously it would have to be an Android tablet running ICS, i cant see much out there right now to rival the specs of the Prime, does anyone have any recommendations>
Cheers

well i dissagree i love my prime and wouldnt trade it for nothing. I have no issues with wifi and the gps is something i dont use on this. I have a phone and navi for that.
its a great tablet and makes any other i have seen slow as a dead turtle.
Plus it is the first android device I have own (5 total) that has gotten updates frequently and with a purpose. I am running ICS natively and the experience is fantabulus!
Anyways, i am sure there will be more and much better coming but for now, its the best on the market!
And its more than a quad core, its a quadcore with a 5th core for all the right reasons. My battery last very long and with this dock, the typing and usage is great. I have the 32gb with a 32gb msd plus i carry a 320 gb hard drive for movies which is accessible from the usb slot!
Anyways good luck buddy

I'm pleased to hear that but reading the Prime forums makes for grim reading, the sheer amount of people having multiple issues is quite staggering and in all honesty ASUS have a lot to answer for, they appeared to rush the release of this before properly testing it (otherwise people wouldn't be having all these issues)
I suppose ill just have to wait until a similar spec tablet comes out but im going to be very wary of just jumping on and buying straight away, im lucky i didn't do that with the Prime or chances are id have sent it back for a refund, im gonna bide my time and read, read, read and make sure before i shell out big bucks that it actually works 100%
i agree, i'm still worried about picking up a Transformer Prime
So im gonna refund my Prime for now and I'm wondering what tablet I should look into next. Im thinking:
Infinity Pad
If it fixes the weak wifi and non-existent gps on my Prime then I'm probably going for that.
Windows 8 Tab
-When are they even gonna be released?
-Any chance to get W8 if I get an Android tablet? What about dual boot?
Crapple iPad 3
Gotta admit it is the smoothest tablet on the market with the greatest app (both phone and tab) selection. However, the lack of customization and widgets (why can't you friggin put widgets on the desktop. all the screen estate for icons?) and good multitasking is a letdown. If they offer something intriguing I might just have to go for that.
What do you think about those options? Any other options?

Maybe if the "new parts" came in a fixed everything. Not holding my money for that tho.
I hear the Kindle Fire is pretty spiffy.
Why did you refund the prime? problems with it? You must have been part of that 1% thingy.
TF700? If you want to wait. OR get better prime. Mod it? Drill some holes in it. Prime loves holes.
just look at my thread, "Closer look at the competition". it has tons of videos in there and links.
Have you looked at the Galaxy Tab 8.9? That was my next go-to.
Asuming you're looking for 10.1", I'd skip any of the first-out Teg2 tablets because of their hobbled video. The newer LTE G-Tab's sold by the carriers are Qualcomm if you need something today. You can probably pick one up on CL/eBay without needing to activate it. Next up would be the mid-gen tablets that are here now or will be shortly like the Toshiba Excite (TI), G-Tab 2 (Exynos?), and Note 10.1 (Exynos). Further down the road are next-gen tablets including the TF300/TF700, Acer A510/A700, and Samsung 11.6. HTC's supposedly working on a Teg3 tablet but it seems to be MIA. And with the bizarre Xyboard, who knows what Motorola's doing.
Im looking for a higher end $500 tablet. More looking into future tablets since I don't see any reason to get any other Android tablet on the market right now other than the Prime.

If you must have a quad-core why not the TF300T, its cheaper Wifi and GPS works and you probably wont feel as bad if it does not perform well.
I have the Prime and I can tell you now that the performance is not what you will expect from a quad core and not worth it for the premium price.
I own both and love my prime, It's so much thinner and sexier looking. hehe It does have it's fair share of QC issues, so I would read through the forum to learn about the most common ones. I've had two and decided to settle on this 3rd as it only has a little backlight bleed but I have yet to see a prime(and I've seen about 6 of them including the 2 I had and 1 I have now) or a tf 101(and I owned a few of them too 1 16GB model 1 32GB model and a replacement 32gb model) that had ZERO backlight bleed. I mean absolutely none. And I noticed on two of my primes on a side angle the screen washes out, or appears to have a glow to it compared to the tf 101. but yes, overall it's much better than the tf101.
Thanks for your replies!
I guess I really would like a quad core tablet that could use my dock, so prime is the way to go right?

prime is the way to go. I have a great working one. well worth it. some have issues but not the case with all primes, like some like to make it seem like.
prime has its own dock though. you can't use any new transformer tablet with old tf101 dock. every tablet has its own matching dock. you get a prime. you will have to buy dock made for prime. you buy a 300, you will need dock for 300 model. not interchangeable. prime dock rocks though. you can get 18hrs. rated battery life with prime n dock combined. real life it like 16hrs. depends on usage. its possible to pull 18+hrs.
I would hold off on the prime until the galaxy note 10.1 drops to see how it compares. So far most devices with Tegra3 haven't been all that.

Honestly I would stay away from the prime. I have one of the latest and despite the recent updates I would consider it flawed. The weak wfi and crappy gps I could not recommend this at all.
Add another vote for wait, there are way to many possible better options right now and in the near future. I would most certainly hold off until after this update to see if it fixes things. So far the main things the prime can do that my OG transformer couldn't is some games, the screen and play mkv out of the box. But playing video on my tab will cause it to reboot. Lastly, if possible check out windows 8 see if this appeals to you because this will be another option.
Also my prime has never out performed my original transformer (other than what I mentioned above) OC'ed running the Revolver roms HC or ICS. Just my 2 pennies.
It's worth it imo. I have one of the early BC models and I love it! Check out the Positive Tranformer Prime thread I have linked on my signature. Good place to start at. Most of everyone is quite happy with there TF201s.
Currently Prime aren't so great on the current firmware and if u have to wait for the next one, u might as wait for the Galaxy Note 10.1 too.
Sooner or later someone will do a Galaxy S III vs Prime video and the results probably won't be pretty to Asus users but I imagine it tells u what the Note 10.1 would do.
Simply put... do your own research & test it out at retails stores if possible. Reading reviews or getting recommendation from forum isn't the way to go with Transformer Prime. Simply put, do your own research (including other tablets) & decide what is best for you.
As for Transformer Prime, you will either hate it or love it. There are Primes with issues (not just s/w but I'm talking about h/w) & there are Primes without any issue (or just satisfactory to each individuals standard). It is 50/50 (I'm being generous here although.. I could just as be bias as I am frustrated with my Prime) in ratio/percentage.... & you are seriously taking a risk. However, if you purchase a Prime without any issue... it really is a nice device (at least in theory to me as I have Prime with issues).

Its hard to get an accurate pic from research or even playing around from one or two store test units.
So many people report so many problems yet so many responses coming back with fixes, also possibility of further firmware updates, hardware duds etc.
The volume of complaints is definitely off-putting and personally I don't see any advantage in 1080p screen @ 10" size, just drags down performance so I can't see the pixels anymore if I squint, big whoop. Heck I think the 1080p screen in my 15" laptop is overkill lol.

if you mean other than asus, yes. BUT it will be a while before it is seen. its more so on the win8 front of other tablet makers coming out with a keyboard dock. no releases anytime soon for competing manufacturer tablets with docks.
Its your call. Asus is leading the pack right now on the Android tablet front with Nvidia's tegra3. Whether Android or the upcoming win8 tablets. 300 is fine. Prime is fine. Infinity pad will be fine. all have tried and proven keyboard dock solutions which add extra versatility and extra battery life. it turns prime into almost a whole new beast. Once i got my keyboard dock for my prime, i could now see what all the hype was over it. the dock is a must have. plus it functions as a stand for your prime also
Tegra3 is where its at right now.
Just check out the thread link in my sig called Positive Transformer thread, and you will see testimonials of Happy prime owners. Its just the flip side to those with issues. Everything needs balance.
good luck with deciding. Like others have said, DECIDE FOR YOURSELF
prime is sexier, no doubt.
300 is more functional and quite a bit faster at less expense.
Overall if you upgrade to a 300 i dont think you would be dissapointed. Prime is nice but really for what you will notice, 300 is better i think. YMMV
I was ready to pull the trigger on the N10, but I've been reading some horrible reviews about battery life and charging and random reboots. I'm now reconsidering the TF700.
My thought is that the reboots I've read about can be fixed by just getting on a custom ROM, which I'm sure the review writers were not on. But the seemingly low quality of the build makes me nervous.
So I guess the question now is: N10 or TF700? Or maybe something else?
I had a tf700 and I put it up for sale two seconds after I turned on the Nexus 10. the Nexus 10 is hands down the best 10in android tablet!

Need more information. What are you primarily using it for? Both can do everything, but each does a few things slightly better/different.
Here's an older thread full of ex-TF700 owners sharing their experiences compared to the N10. Rather than repeat, I'll just drop a link...

Since my post in that thread was made before I owned my Nexus 10, I'll add that the N10 feels much more solid compared to the Transformer in spite of the flex, the rubber just feels like it could handle whatever life throws at it better than the metal of the transformer. CM10.1 does indeed fix the reboots. The battery life seems slightly better to me than the Infinity without the dock.
IMO the only plus the TF700 has are its SD card slot and dock.
Sold my TF300T the moment the nexus 10 was released and haven't regretted it for a second.
Find the nexus 10 community (growing by the day thanks to Google getting better with stock), the look and feel a lot better. Add AOSP and it wins hands down.
Was a little concerned about not having micro sd support but after having the device for a couple months don't even notice.

The N10 is still very new and some of the non-h/w related issues should be resolved over time. As for the TF700 you'd be trading one set of issues for another. There are ample threads here, on the Note 10.1, and TF700 forums talking about the TF700 in comparison. You owe it to yourself to read them before making a decision. Since neither device is "perfect" the choice comes down to one using the latest tech at the beginning of its life or year-old tech at the end of its life. The former is much more likely to get ongoing support; especially since it's a Nexus device.
I have a TF300t running clean Rom inheritance and it runs great. Even the stock Rom with the newest update runs great. Plus you can get a 32gb unit for $330 no shipping, no tax and save some coin. Add a 64gb micro sd and have 96gb storage for under $400. Very easy to root or unlock too!

And you voided your warranty, are using what little RAM of the 1GB available is left to cache your browser data, and still don't have 5GHz Wi-Fi support, channel bonding, Glonass for location services, or a FHD display. And by the time you add the cost of SquareTrade to replace the voided warranty and the cost of the SD card to bypass Asus' crappy NAND it cost the same or more as a N10. To each their own.

I had a TF300T for a while and I liked it but I would pay the additional money and get the N10, best tablet I have ever used. We use tablets at work so I have used an iPad 2, iPad 3, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Asus TF300T, Nexus 7 at work and the Nexus 10 I bought personally.

The TF700 may have the advantage of having less issues, since it's an older platform which has had the benefit of time to iron out the wrinkles. However, it has inferior hardware and won't be supported as well or as long as the N10. There's nothing low quality about the N10 build.
I currently have a lot of issues with my N10, but man is it beautiful. Everything from the hardware to the software. Yes, there are lots of annoying little bugs, but as a whole only a few show-stoppers and will hopefully get them fixed. Certainly if you have no problems with installing ROMs, you won't have to wait as long. Also, many of the real show-stopper issues have to do with having multiple accounts - a new feature in 4.2. So if you're the only user (which will be true in the TF700) then you won't have many of the issues.
Having said all of this, there are definitely a few really nice benefits of going with the TF700. It's older/slower hardware, but again, if you don't mind ROMs then you don't care about updates and you get a beautiful dock design with a physical keyboard and a much better battery life. Having a physical keyboard also has a benefit of not wasting real-estate when a keyboard is required. Using a software keyboard sucks for lots of typing: long-winded emails, posts and documents .
By the way, what do you mainly want to do with the tablet? That may push you into a certain direction. If the TF700 came with the N10 specs and N10 software/support (or lack there of, right now )... I'd be all over the TF700.
Not sure if this helps
Having owned two tf201's, and two tf700's I can tell you performance wise, and just about every other way, the nexus 10 is far superior.

I've had a tf201 and now a tf700. I also had the n10 for 2 weeks. The only reason I kept the Tf700 is I got the dock + tablet for about $500 and love the keyboard on it. Performance wise, even with cleanrom and clemsey kernel it doesnt beat the performance and smoothness of the n10. If you dont need a keyboard go for the n10. I'm reconsidering buy it again and just getting a separate bluetooth keyboard. I'm just waiting for CES to be over just in case a better tablet comes out thats better than the n10 with keyboard.

i bought both the tf700 and the N10 to compare. all i can say is that tegra 3 is a couple of generations behind the nexus's a15 processor. i saw lots of lag, sluggish behavior and lots of FC even on stock on the tf700. the N10 is very smooth and if you turn down the animations in dev mode, you dont see the studders people talk about. the only reason one would pick the tf700 would be due to the screen and optional keyboard. The screen is just farrrr superior than the N10. even though the N10 has a higher PPI and Res, asus's ips screen is just super vivid and lifelike. N10 is number 1 android tablet and will be for a while, until they release some tegra 4/ snapdragon 800 devices

I had a TF201. It was NOTHING but problems. Stay away from everything Asus. They're terrible. I sold mine for an N10 and am very happy.

The N10 is in another league than the TF700. I've had both.
Sold the tf700 after a few months of usage. The N10 has been pretty much awesome, and its way smoother.

For playing games with more enjoyment, I would like to suggest the TF 700, for experiencing the latest Android version, then get the Nexus 10.
As a user of TF700 and struggling a lot with it I have been keeping my close eye on the Nexus 10. If I didn't unlock my TF700 about 3months ago and this way voiding the warranty and at the same time making it harder to sell I would have probably done it already.
But then something magical happened with the new CM10.1 kernel and now this tablet really is super smooth. I still do think that Tegra 3 is no match for A15 by any means but this is still very snappy now.
Also I am a bit worried about some people complaining about the battery life of the Nexus 10. With TF700 it is so great to basically have 2 batteries with the dock. Also because I am using the tablet a lot at work I actually do need the dock to write reports.
Yet I do like the idea of having a pure Nexus device.
I am just wondering that because we are here at Nexus 10 site does people here always praise their current device even if there are a lot of problems. I am tempted to try but I am worried that it will end up in a similar disastrous start which I had with TF700.
Oh and the reason why I am still reading here is that I have these 2 white dots on my screen of TF700 and because unlocking can't return it anymore..and they are driving me crazy..
