I haven't followed rom developments in a few months now. Can anyone tell me if I would gain any new features (photo sphere?) or significant speed improvements if I flashed a 4.2.2 rom over AOKP 4.1.2 w/ Siyah kernel. One thing I would not want to lose is BLN with the kernel, since I've read Siyah doesn't always work with 4.2.2 roms and not all kernels offer BLN. Thanks

AJK has BLN and is a better version on Siyah.
Thanks for the info on the kernel I'll check it out. Any thoughts on any advantages of 4.2.2 over 4.1.2?

Just flash it. Back everything up and give it a whirl. Some like it,some don't. Good luck, happy flashing.

How to know which kernel is correct?
As of now I am using Sensation rom which has Siyah kernel 2.5.2 and I want to flash speedmod kernel or N.E.A.K. Kernel,
N.E.A.K. Kernel only supports sammy roms
I tried to search but I could not find out if Sensation rom is aosp or sammy do you have any idea of it?
also does speedmod kernel support both as nothing it written about it on its thread
Thanks

Normally on the first page of a rom thread you will get a description what is the rom. For example MIUI is well MIUI. Hyperdroid is sammy deodex rom with of course modifications and tweaks in the build to make it better than stock.
Sensation rom is sammy deodex no aosp nothing like that. And when you normally look for an AOSP rom it normally would say it in the heading of the thread anyway.
On the kernel thread it has a guide of what roms the kernel works on and which ones it does not. Siyah works basically with any rom. CM7 to AOSP to sammy deodex. Regarding Simone's kernel which is the NEAK version or something like that it is based on only sammy stock deodex roms and that is mainly the ones in original development and android..just look out for deodex, sammy and stock rom
AS above its all a question of reading the info on the first page of the kernel post .
Plus if it does not work flash another one .
the Neak kernel should be ok been on mine for a few days .
Speedmod likewise ok have used it before .

Thanks everyone for their wonderful help!
I have got one last question
Speedmod kernel says "it is only for Samsung Gingerbread ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or MIUI ROMS!"
does this means it will not work with sensation rom?
Edit: ok looks like the different versions are just the updated ones
But still the question is if it supports sensation rom?

Now, if you look at the VERY FIRST page for SensatioN ROM,, it says:
SensatioN ROM Features:
-Based on Samsung Firmware XWKK5 Android 2.3.6
With all of this information, you should be able to deduce that the Speedmod kernel WILL work with your ROM. If you still don't understand, I'm going to suggest you don't flash anything to your phone, for fear of ending up with a paperweight.
Ok this time I understand everything
I didn't knew that Sammy roms means that the ROM is based on Samsung's stock ROM
Also I thought that speedmod only works on stock ROM so all this things got me confused
But anyways now its all clear

Sammy is short for Samsung.
I didn't want to have this get lost in my other threads so I decided to make a new one.
These kernel's have the necessary in-call patch to work for our phones. I have attached a flashable zip so you can flash the I9100 ROM (Only for LPH based ROMs) of your choice and then flash this kernel.

3. Flash my kernel.
4. Flash a Modem from our I777 collection.
4. Reboot.
LPQ ROM's verified working on with LPQ kernel
1. CriskeloServanTeam V05
Sammy ROM's verified working on with stock kernel (Thanks cjsabaki)
1. Wanam lite ics rom (has a phone apk with no noise suppression)
2. ICS resurection (It is flawless, has everything working, including: camera, video, usb, external_sd)
AOSP ROM's verified working on with Siyah kernel (Thanks cjsabaki)
1. MIUI v4
2. CM9
3. AOKP Hydro1.5 ROM
4. Bezke's AOKP build
This does not fix the in-call Noise Suppression issue, that is a modification to Phone.apk so be forewarned

Ok thanks, I'm staying on AOKP for now
gonna try this out
I'm gonna try this out but want to make sure I flash the correct modem. Where do I get the KJ4 modem that will work for LPH releases? I've found the Modem post in the original development section and the CM9 modems that task650 posted in the CM9 i777 post. I'd appreciate anybody's proper guidance.
I tried Siyah's ICS 3.0alpha3 for just testing fun last night (knowing calls won't work - just playing), and it had a much smoother scrolling/UI screen feel to it. Would it be possible for you (ktoonsez) to combine / share your collected mods on getting the ICS kernel to work on our i777 phones with gokhanmoral, so he could offer up a Siyah version for our phones? Just wondering... thanks... appreciate all you do for us man!

Take your preferred modem from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361393
Then follow op instructions. Basically, Wipe data, flash ICS LPH rom of your choice, flash gapps, flash this kernel, flash your modem, reboot
FYI, I flashed Westcrip's rom earlier this morning using the above mentioned flashing process without issue. I actually prefer Bezke's AOKP look and feel so I went back

Yes I can hack his kernel so it will work with ours. Looks like he is on alpha 4 now. Does anyone know how to contact him, probably should contact him before doing it?
EDIT:
Whihk ROM or ROM's did you use it on?
Also be aware, since there are no sources yet (direct quote from his site):
Warning: this is not a compiled kernel but only a repack of cfroot kernel. only initramfs part is modified until the sources are out.

Tried Resurrection and Wanam as well as Cm9 and aokp. I liked the cm9 and akop but no adobe flash support. That's a must for me.
I'm back to Wanam now, it seemed more stable than Resurrection. It's been fun playing with these. Thanks to you guys that have made this possible.
I'll see how this does on battery over the long run now.

Hi all. I am new to rooting and I just rooted my sgs2 with gingerbread speedmod kernel and I am in Stock gingerbread rom. I wanted to install the revolt jelly bean rom and was wondering whether I need kernels like dreams or Siyah. One of my friends said it would be fine on GB speedmod. So if it does work I might try to install it

Ah man that's saddening. Is there any way I can do to install the revolt JB rom?
Is there any OC kernel for stock JB?
I have looked everywhere, but they are all either old ICS/GB or 4.2.2 kernels.
Can I use any 4.2.2 kernels with the stock JB?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Literally the 10th thread after stickies in the development section
Sent from my SGH-I717D using xda app-developers app
No you can NOT use a 4.2.2 kernel for any other version. You will soft brick your phone.
The phase kernel is for 4.1.2 but it has issues and I don't recommend using it.
So basically there isn't a kernel for stock JB.
I should have clarified my question.
I am on Telus stock JB, and it is a different base then AT&T stock JB. I tried Phase kernel and it didn't work.
I guess my only option is to move to another ROM to use OC kernel.
Thank you.

Not to hijack, but if I could ask... I was literally moments away from flashing Padawan V2 when I saw this, which has the phase kernel. Is it really so unstable that less experienced folks should steer clear for now? No big deal for me as I have a perfectly fine rom installed, but was really interested in trying to OC and Padawan fit the bill.
Cheers.
(I bolded "For Now" as I do not wish to even hint that I am saying anything negative about what is clearly a very fine rom. I am simply asking if it just needs a little more time to attain perfection)

The rom that has phase kernel included is fine. The developer updated the rom/kernel combo but didn't update the stand alone kernel. So enjoy!
I would probably try out Padawan with the Phase kernel. Although there are reports of some issues, from what I can tell, they are the minority and most people are enjoying the ROM/Kernel.
I am just too lazy to backup/flash/restore to go to Padawan. And I am perfectly fine with the Telus JB as it is now.
Thanks guys. Padawan looks like a blast and I can't wait to load er up.
I have a little confusion here.
I have CM 10.1 loaded on my Note i717 and its constantly locking up. I have heard many people have great luck flashing an alternative kernel to fix the problem. However, how do I chose a kernel? I have looked all over and don't want to flash any old kernel.
Can any one recommend a kernel that's compatible with my Note i717 running CM 10.1 7/14 nightly.
