Hello all,
this is my first time rooting and i have read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616, im downloading the files as i type, so my question is, it it hard to root my thunderbolt? also ive read the pros and cons, and i would also like to know from u rooters, what do u like from a rooted phone?
for those who want to just the question, here u go:
1) it it hard to root my thunderbolt? (following the link)
2) u rooters, what do u like from a rooted phone?
yes im excited to attempt to trying to root my thunderbolt ^^
It's not hard, just fallow the instructions to the letter and of course make sure you have adb set up and the proper drivers installed. After that it's pretty much a cut and paste affair.
Second question: Root = freedom, simple enough.
I went to Youtube to setup my adb.

If you're going to flash a ROM it will have it installed.

so for now its ok to have no busybox, after i install a ROM it will be in that ROM correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153055 this is the ROM i am thinking, will i be able to get that onto my phone? i did the 2.5 version
also ty i appreciate answering my questions!
Before you flash any ROM, do yourself a huge favor, and read the OP (original post) and then read it again. Follow the directons carefully. After your first time its like riding a bike. Search the thread before asking questions too since you will likely get hammered by people for asking questions already asked and answered. Good luck.
BAMF is a great ROM, you might search later in the thread for RC5, Adryn leaked a preview with a different kernel than RC4.

You'll need an MR2 radio for that ROM, I recommend the one from the OTA. You can find it in the development thread, it gets flashed through hboot.
Edit: And yes, the ROM you flash will have busybox built in. And +1 for the post above mine, use the search function, it works well. When you do have a question post it in that ROM's thread or keep it in the Q&A section. Best of luck to you.
Hey there! Yes, this is my first post in this forum I believe, but I've been a heavy lurker since December. Currently, my tbolt is rooted and has been for a few months. I'm running BAMF 3.0 RC4 and I can honestly say, the pros far outweigh the cons. A few of my favorite pros is the ability to run a wider selection of apps, more control, the speedier updates from devs compared to Verizon/HTC, overclocking, better controlled over battery life, no bloat removal..the list goes on and on. Basically, being rooted allows me to make changes to my phone to fit my needs. And yes, it is incredibly easy IMHO to root this phone. Good luck, and have fun.
Should mention too that I did mess up my radio when I flashed GB but it was quickly fixed by reflashing. So the only con has been my own fault. I also believe that you can restore the phone to a "fresh out of the box" state should you ever need to take it back.

Try the RC5 preview with the new MR2 OTA leaked radio. Smoothest combination I've used yet.
Yeah definitely would suggest flashing the official MR2 radio as well. It's been the most solid for me. Had issues with 2.5, and I had slow 3g speeds on the leaked MR2.

I'll try BAMF again when RC5 is officially released. My phone really likes Ziggy's kernels. Was flashing almost daily since I got my bolt trying to find decent battery life. Running Synergy now for a week with no issues. Liked the other roms, but Ziggy's kernel gives me the best life.

Hey fellow member. I don't know if this has been covered already but, has there been any solution to the broken Motorola Photon Links? I know i should of downloaded the ROM when the phone was new. Sadly i just got my photon 3 weeks ago and now all the ROM to my leisure are all gone. If anyone has a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
It would help if you were more specific.. Are you looking for an unlocked ROM like CM9/MIUI? OR a .sbf of the stock ROM to restore phone to..?
Please, be specific and you will get an answer

If you do need any other rom not on this list I have alien rom and homebase rom + the themes that go with them. they are on the older side but from what i have tried work great. hit me up if you need any of those two and ill try to find a link or upload what i have.
ill take any ROMs and Kernals anyone can give me for the Photon. But if anyone have the ROM and Kernal set that can allow me to OverClock 1.5 Ghz or more it would be GREATLY appriciated thanks again fellow members.

Ummm, I think loki has just about all there is for the photon listed. The highest oc I've seen for the photon is 1.4, with a couple of jokers kernels for stock or cm. So I'm sorry if s don't have a lot of options /sarcasm

Only ROM I remember being able to do that was was i *think* Cybiks CM7 that I thought I used to run at 1.5 Ghz.. You don't need anywhere near that kind of OC speeds anyways it just kills battery. CM9 is still lightning fast clocked at 1 Ghz. All the ROMS are posted in dev section and all of the newer roms CM9/MIUI/AOKP all have working links... And so do most of older ROMS too..
Can you guys post the links of the available working ROM/Kernal atm because i checked all the forums and they rom or kernals are either Multi or Mega Upload and there gone D:
To make it easier for you wonderful/helpful people if you can provide the following it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Motorola Stock 2.3.4
HomeBase Photon
STAR WARS 2.8

Photon Laser v1.1
CM7
CM9

and last Any extra Kernal or ROMS i missed
I'm sorry if i asked so much but if i do receive a lot of ROM and Kernels i will make a new post regarding these ROM and Kernels so no one will have to struggle with this and ill give credit to the makes of the ROM/Kernels along with you Guys who made it possible to keep these ROM and Kernels Alive

I'm finding it difficult to be civil at this point.
There is no way that you could have checked all the forums and ROM threads. Every ROM I listed IS NOT hosted on multi or mega. Every ROM I listed is hosted on private servers. I strongly suggest that you go by the list I posted as I know for a fact that those are available as I personally host Imperium and the stock SBF's at personal expense.
As far as not finding ROM's this does not seem to be a common issue as not only is there a sticky with ROM links (need to update BTW), almost every live/current ROM is in the first page of the Dev forum.
Mod please kill this thread
Just give me a little more time i really got my photon WAY LATE so a majority of the good ROM/ Kernel are gone. Ill drop this all ASAP

I am baffled as to how you cannot find a single ROM. As far as kernels, all the current ROMs, except for one, are running the latest kernels so there is really no need to go hunting for different kernels. Older ROMs and kernels means no support so that is the worst place to start.

Photon Laser ROM?
I wanted to try out the Photon Laser v1.1 ROM, but when I click on the large link that says "Click here for downloads" in the first post of the Photon Laser thread by kennethpenn, it takes me to another webpage where there is a link that says "Download v1.1" and it gives me a 404 error message. I've tried looking to see if this ROM is hosted anywhere else but can't seem to find it. Can someone post a fresh link to this ROM?
I just got the Note today, and I have the GSIII. I am testing them both out. I was told rooting the Note and installing recovery was super easy but there are like 15 guides and I don't know how to root this thing.
I need a guide, and then maybe some suggestions to good ROM's once I actually figure out how to root.
Any help is appreciated.
Go to this website. Www.rootgalaxynote.com and find the section for the i717. He lays out everything and give all the necessary files.

No it is still on GB, I haven't done the kies ICS update. I would figure rooting in GB would lose root when I upgraded to ICs and then I would have to repeat the entire process.

Honestly I just suggest flashing an ICS custom ROM. Easier than kies, and better anyways.
If you want to try out the "stock ICS" feel, look no further than here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664980
that will still have smemo and all the stock widgets and launcher. It's just de-bloated, deodexed, and rooted. It's pretty much like stock on steroids.
If you don't care about the stock feel or the spen or touchwiz stuff, try anything else out there. Lots of good ROMs, all better than stock through kies.
I'm currently running rasroygbiv's Gubment Cheeze, a CM9 based ROM, and it's awesome. Haven't had an ounce of lag, and I've been testing it for quite a while now, before it was released here. Highly recommended that you at least try it if you like the whole CM9 thing.
And for your gs3, look for Nunhugger's Triune, it's a stockish debloated rooted ROM and he's doing some sweet things theming stock touchwiz.

just wait a month or two then read a few stickies about unlocking your bootloader and flashing roms!
Beware it's too early for daily use!

I would recommend MRom(build on CM7.2) which is pretty decent especially in regard of battery life, until they create a firm version of this ICS leak. It's probably going to be a Jelly Bean release because some guy succeeded to create a JB rom out of this leaked Atrix 4G ICS leak.

If all you want to do is root you can check out superoneclick root, it did the job for me on the last available GB update released. But remember that you have to have the proper drivers installed and that this does not allow you to flash custom roms, it simply gives you root access.
The drivers can be found here (I think).
superoneclick can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
also make sure to read a bit from that thread.
If you are a n00b don't install THAT rom... it's very unstable..
superoneclick rocks
superoneclick rocks, as does cwm recovery. Install both, and don't look back.
well , i managed to unlock bootloader and install recovery and now i just flashed cm10 by epinter
i love it
I have Android 4.2 installed on my Galaxy S4. Since I rooted my phone as soon as I got it, I never got any OTA updates beyond that. But now I hear that Android 5.0 (Lollipop) is out for my device, and I want to install it. But all I can find are custom ROMs, and I don't want to install one of those as then I'll have to do a factory reset, which I just did a few weeks ago and I'd rather not have to do all the setup again.
Can someone please point me to where I can find the stock ROM update downloads? I'd like to keep root access after flashing, so let me know if there's anything special I have to do for that.
Thank you!
AFAIK, it's not out yet for our phones.
