I'm new to rooting and I'm hooked. I did my nook color and my Nexus 7. I REALLY want to do my DNA. I can't wait for someone to figure out how to u lock the bootloader on the new update!

If you're not on the latest OTA you can now ^^
Unless of course... it's too late ( for now )
Yeah... Is too late. I really started getting into it after I installed the OTA

im sure there will be a way to root with new ota soon. then the addiction continues!
I really do feel the disappointment for all those that took the update. I would be pulling my hair out and cursing the heavens by now :silly:
Didn't take an OTA here.. unfortunately, mine shipped from Amazon with the update installed. So patiently I wait for our wonderful developers to get root for those of us late to the party.

I wouldn't be so anxious to root the DNA.. I rooted mine the first day I got it and about 3 weeks ago had to unroot it just to apply the update that was released because I kept getting a screen popping up telling me to "Set a Date" to install the update, which was impossible to install with a rooted phone... so yea.. don't be so anxious ;x

Or you could of flashed a rom that was updated, or flashed a rom which disabled the ota, or flashed the package that disables the ota.

I myself cannot wait to root and flash. I have had the phone for about a week now and it came updated. I am close to trading for a Note 2 or GS3 I'm so anxious hahaha. I will be patient though haha.
I'm on the same boat sucks to have no root for ota. Well unlocked bootloader actually.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
Unlocked bootloader with OTA? How so? I just want to root to remove/freeze bloatware. Flashing ROMs maybe eventually, but I think this phone is awesome out of the box.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
The issue with ota is unlocking the bootloader. We can't do it anymore with the new ota. In order to get root the bootloader needs to be unlocked so that we can flash a custom recovery and flash super user granting root. Without the bootloader we have nothing. The people working on getting the bootloader unlocked it is said they have root on ota but for us to get to that we need the bootloader unlocked.

Ok, so I'm on the edge to root my Samsung Galaxy S3 (AT&T), but I have one concern. Jellybean is supposed to land on this phone in a month, and I was wondering that when I root my phone (no custom ROMs) can I update to jellybean OTA with the root, and have no problems?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
It's gonna be best to un-root before doing the eventual OTA update because it can play havoc with your phone otherwise.
If you stayed rooted and still done the OTA, the best case scenario is that it'll simply take your root status away, but it can cause more problem than simply that.
Sent from Stephen Hawking's rooted wheelchair
What's worse case scenario? And it is usually easy to unroot
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm not too sure what the worst case scenario is, I just remember reading it not long ago.
I didn't word that last post too well to explain properly. If you're only rooted then you'll be fine to do the OTA. It's if you have CWM installed that errors can happen.
So, you're fine to root but you'll have to re-root once you've done the update.
Sent from Stephen Hawking's rooted wheelchair
Ahhhh okay. So if I root and stay on stock ROM ( I'm not playing to put on any custom ROMs anytime soon) I can update OTA, and everything will go well, and then I'll just root again?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

Many people run rootkeeper or the like to take OTA updates without issue. Haven't seen having root causing issues, just taking updates after erasing bloatware.
So if I root, I shouldn't have any problem updating to jellybean OTA?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure you will. I rooted my phone and couldn't do a OTA so I just went with a custom rom that updates. Best decision ever

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm sure the devs in your forum will offer a stock rooted ROM based off the OTA. So just keep your root and wait for them. Hell . They often release theirs before the official push.

Some devs here are starting to work on their OTA updates for their ROMs. Otherwise, most devs here work at a much faster pace to release their updates than any manufacturer or carrier will.
So its impossible to straight up OTA from your device if your rooted with no ROMs installed?? I don't want to wipe out my data and restore my backup all for a "ROM" because I can't update legittimatly from the OTA server

Its possible to receive ota updates... do it like this.. root your device.. don't remove bloatwares.. don't install custom kernel or rom.. then unroot your device before trying to use ota updates... it works for me.. so no worries..

Pretty much like this. But it makes rooting quite limited, so I don't see why you would go throught the hassle when a custom ROM is a waaayy better choice. Just my opinion, though

I've already rooted/unlocked my phone, and I'm running the base ROM. Is it safe to install this update? I haven't seen anyone mention it, so I'm thinking it's probably alright. However, I figured it would be safer to ask anyway, given the "do not allow any OTAs to install without asking if they are compatible" warning in the FreeGee thread .

So i havent rooted my phone yet and i updated the phone with the recent OTA update. Does this mean that I cannot currently get s-off. If so, are there anyways to remove the update? Also, if i had s-off but I had to return the device to verizon for a replacement, would I be able to completely bring the phone back to stock (stock rom and have it say "locked" as opposed to "re-locked"). Does verizon even care if you send back a device that says "re-locked"?

You can change it back to LOCKED(not RELOCKED). The bootloader still says s-off though.

I originally bought this phone when it first dropped and was able to unlock my bootloader and root my device but i went back to my SIII for a while and gave this one to my girlfriend (huge mistake). I unrooted and relocked the bootloader before giving her the device, of course when the ota's popped up she took it and installed it. I just got the phone back yesterday and it actually looks like the newest ota has also been pushed and installed to the phone. My question is (which is probably a no) since i have rooted and unlocked before can i do it again or am i screwed waiting for a method? Ive spent a better half of my morning searching these threads for an answer but had no luck so im sorry if this has been asked a million times.
Thanks in advance.
Since you already have your unlock token you can unlock like you did the first time.

I'm not an Android expert by an means. Can someone please tell me if the pop-up I'm getting on my HTC Droid DNA telling me to update to: HTC6435LVW_2.06.605.1-2.04.605.2

My phone is rooted, S-OFF, and running teamwin recovery.
So do I need to watch this stupid Verizon pop-up or can I upgrade somehow? I see threads talking about a bounty for a crack but I'm not sure if that means there is a fix for just upgrading or not?
