Good morning,
I just purchased my first Android Phone (SGSII - ATT) and to my unpleasant surprise, the phone cant load or play the .wav email attachments that we receive.
After doing some research on this - I gave up and wanted to share this issue with you.
Everything that I found so far was related to downloading a 3rd party app that plays the .wav files.
Here is what happens on my phone:
- When I receive an email with a .wav attachment the phone does show in the email list that there is an attachment
- When I open the email, then there is no sign for an attachment
- At the bottom of the email there is a button "Load More Details"
- When I press that button the phone displays "Downloading" and it goes into an infinite loop and never downloads anything.
I like the phone so far, but if I cant play my voice messages on it, will have to go back to my iPhone 4G... and I really dont want to go back to that slow and small phone
You help is appreciated!
Thanks

Are you using the GMail app or the other (built in) Mail app?
I just tested mine out, playing a WAV file in both email apps, and it worked fine. Showed the attachment, downloaded, and played via the built in media player.
You mentioned you installed some 3rd party app to play the WAV files. This might be your problem. I would suggest that you either uninstall this app or disassociate it from .WAV files and see if that fixes the problem.
Also, keep in mind that all WAVs are not the same. There are different internal codecs and some are incompatible with certain media players.
But I would say that this other app is more likely to be causing the problem. At least from the info you told us.
I am using the Email app (White envelop stamped with a blue & white @ symbol).
I only downloaded the 3rd party app after trying the .wav playback.
The phone refuses to even display the attachment when I open the email. In the list mode I can see that there is an attachment, but when I open the email there is no attachment...weird.
Should I be using the Gmail app for my exchange account sync?
Thank you

If it's not private, forward me the WAV you are trying to play: enki -at- phalse -dot- org. I'll see if I can play it on mine, and if not, what the differences are.
I'm not sure if the Gmail app is compatible or not with exchange, you may need to use the other built in email app (as you are).
You could also try using another, non exchange based, email provider and forward it there, just to eliminate a problem on the exchange server side.

I will forward it in a second...
In the mean time - I did test sendimg myself an mp3 file to the same Exchange account and that one worked fine.
I also sent the .wav file to my Gmail account and was also able to play it via the Gmail app on the phone.
So, it seems like the problem I am having is only for those .wav files in my Exchange Account
Tested using the email app with my corp exchange account, no problem what so ever with .wav files. It might be a problem with your exchange server that filtered out the attachment.

That is really weird because I never had any issues with my iPhone (s).
I just sent out a test .wav file to a couple of iPhone and Andoid users (not SGS2 ATT) and they can all open the file.
Here is the screenshot from the screen I get after clicking on the "Load More Details" button. There is definitely something behind the downloading message but I cannot get to it nor read it. BTW this never downloads anything, it just hangs liker that

Got your email and it played without any problems on my SG2. Used the standard email app and hit 'preview'. Downloaded and launched the media player and I heard your "test" recording.
So that eliminated the email and WAV file from being at fault. So it's down to either your device (unlikely, but possible) or the integration with your exchange server (more likely). To eliminate/vindicate the second possibility, try creating a standard IMAP/POP email account, forward the message there, and try and download/play it from the same email app. If it works, you will need to fix it on the exchange side.
I just tested again using the same Cisco phone voicemail at work and it work as well. From what I can tell from your screen shot, it is not an attachment but a URL to some internal location that is not accessible to the public networks (cell connection). Unfortunately it is hidden by the loading icon. I can only see file://.....
Does your exchange email ever show HTML email on your phone at all. It seems that your exchange server is using the rather old Exchange 2003 ActiveSync protocol that strips off the HTML and other stuff. That's why you have 'Load more details' button (just like Hotmail).
I am not sure exactly how our exchange is setup but I just found out that if I rotate the phone to landscape and then back to portrait it shows the attachment and it can play it....
I am not sure why it does that, but I have the feeling that this phone will be going back to BestBuy...
Same problem with Galaxy Glide
I have this issue with a Galaxy Glide. But I don't have any working solution. What's wrong with Samsung?

I'll try to be polite, but.....this thread was dead . Bringing it back up after 10 months of being dead and buried is called necroing here, and its frowned upon. I'm sure the OP found a solution as its been...10 months. I've never had this problem on any rom I've run.

I'm using the stock Email app and can't figure out a way to directly save email attachments to Dropbox.
Right now, to do this, I have to find the file in my Download folder and then save it to Dropbox.
Long press on the file icon doesn't do anything and doesn't seem to be any setting in email that allows this.
Thanks for any help
Unfortunately, I have the same issue, will spend some time today and see if there is a workaround for this... I'll let ya know...
Ok, so I did some checking and setup and downloaded Box.com's mobile app. Basically same principle as Dropbox but under Box's setting on phone there is a checkbox for "enable upload to box everywhere". Once I checked this box, i was able to open an attachment on 4 different e-mail accounts with stock e-mail app and upload straight to Box. If you're not stuck on Dropbox, give this a try. Mobile App = "Box", setup account at Box.net. Hope it helps...
EDIT: Downside is, Box.net doesn't offer a free sync app for windows/mac... You would have to be a paid user... So, guess I will be waiting for Dropbox to include the feature....

I have the exact same problem. I have looked into every setting to find out what it can be but to no avail. Try to see if you can send it over wi-fi, cause I can, as soon as I'm on mobile data the problem starts, and I know it's not carrier related have tested different carries and phones and all OK accept this one.
I'm beginning to think it may be a problem with the stock mail app, don't know about other guy's, but I'll see if this thread can help with the problem, or else I'm just going to try K-9 or something and see if that solves the problem.
I cannot send also via wifi , dropbox also cannot upload . Sometimes it does but 100/1 chance
Thank you for reply .
email sending problem
Hello ,
I've also this strange problem.
It doesn't matter which eMail account, Application (standard/K9) or network (provider/WiFi) I use, I get to 95% the message, that the email is to large.
New is, that I get this message now also on eMails with just only text inside, means no attachments.
I searched everything through, no solution.
So, the S3 is useless.
Anybody fixed this?
attachment not going using Gmail on my Galaxy S3
Please help. While composing new mail I can attach files to my mail. But it's actually not going to the recipient.
If sending from hotmail it's working perfectly.
Using S3 international version.
Hi,
Same problem here and cant seem to find an answer anywhere?
I am able to send emails without attachments on 3g or wifi with no issues, I can send emails with attachments on wifi. However I cannot send emails with attachments on 3g file size 1mb, I have tried gmail and active sync with no luck.
I can also receive emails with attachments with no issue on 3g and wifi?
Any help appreciated on this as cant seem to figure out what's causing it, tried several roms all with same problem, currently running XXDLIB.
Can't attach files from external memory card to email.
Trouble attaching files to emails with my new Galaxy S3.
If I use Gmail's file attachment option, the only choices I get are Gallery and Dropbox. Shouldn't there be an option for me to use the "My Files" App to browse to the location of the file that I want?
If I start with the "My Files" App and browse to my External SD Card and to the file I want and then press and hold the file, I get a dialog that will allow me to "Share Via". If I choose Gmail it will place the attachment on the email. However, the attachment doesn't go with the email and there are no errors to let you know that it did not go.
If I perform the same steps and browse to a location on the Internal Storage and choose "Send Via" the file attaches and successfully transmits with the email.
It seems that the phone cannot attach files from an external SD Card. Could this be true?

Hi all,
I'm using Cm9 latest build.
My problem is when configuring exchange account in the stock Email app. the schedule appointments and meetings feature is not working.
if someone sends me a meeting request from outlook to my Email, i see the email but nothing more than that - meaning the .ics file that is attached to the body of the mail is not accessible and not visible, hence i cannot accept\deny\cancel the meeting request or even know about the meeting...
i noticed this happens on pop3 emails too. so end result the email app of cm9 doesn't handle .ics and doesn't even show the file as an attachment! WHAT AN ANNOYING BUG.
so guys any way to fix this ?
Thanks

Hi,
Well i just found this thread
http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
It looks like Google is simply unable to develop such a simple ability in their Email app. makes me think maybe i was wrong deciding on Android.
it's a shame - they know about this since 2008 !!!
I'm giving up - Waiting for the nest Iphone.
Hello, I shot some video today on my HTC one and wanted to email it to a friend. The size is UNDER 25mb (around 24.5) and it's just sits in my outbox trying to send. Not to mention if I remove it from the outbox I have actually uninstall gmail (the updates anyways) and re-install them in order for mail to sync properly again. If I don't it acts as if it's still trying to send it out when I try to sync even though it's been removed from the outbox. Tried force closing, rebooting, clearing the cache..only thing that worked was a re-install. Anyone else have trouble sending larger attachments through the gmail app? Also I am on WiFi so speed shouldn't be an issue.
As far as I understand any email provided caps the files at 10 MB anything larger won't send.
