Help updating my phone without rooting - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I currently have an AT&T atrix 4g running 4.5.141 update but the battery is just draining like in 4-5 hours with moderate usage. So can anyone please suggest a version which doesnt drain much battery and also a link on how to update. I am new to android and i dont prefer rooting or unlocking the BL. Is there an easy way to update besides rooting/unlocking?and btw i stay in asia and i am cutrently not on AT&T.
Thankx,

Barry,
Have you tried one of the apps that help with battery life from the market? Or a new larger capacity battery? Not much else you can do without messing with phone.
I did assume you already turn off WiFi, GPS and BT when you are not using them.

Thank you but i think the battery problem was due to too many apps running as services using data. Now its king of manageable and i wanna thank you for your reply.

Yes you will get the best speed and screen.
But sorry, I think Atrix battery is better, since it's 1920mah.
Crapware, yes they exist but you can always remove it after you root.

Firmware & GPS Question

I got a question that im unsure of the answer. I recently flashed the new firmware with BB.67. Cant remember the firmware number. I live in Canada, so it changed my X10a to a X10i...which isnt a big deal for me....but what im unsure of is does the firmware and baseband your using effect the accuracy of the GPS navigation? A couple days ago I typed in a address I needed to get to for work and the GPS sent me to the opposite side of the damn city. I love this new firmware and baseband because my battery life is absolutely amazing....but not worth it if my GPS fails when using it.
Thanks!
Im also rogers in Ontario using this firmware. I haven't had any issues with gps accuracy to date. I had a similar issue in Hamilton once using stock rogers eclair so not thats its alot of help but I don't think it has anything to do with ur change.

How do you find the battery life on this firmware? Mine is just to amazing. I flashed back to .435 until I know for sure the GPS isnt effected.

Battery life is alright. Haven't found it to be exceptional but a definite improvement over stock. The radio is definitely more responsive but I came from trips Rom so signal nd data speed doesn't quite seem as good. The Rom as a whole is great everything works fantastic for me its def gonna stay my daily until gb is released. I will test gps out on my commute in the am and post back my results

unreliable tethering

my tethering seems very unreliable. im using the latest wifi tether apk but thats irelevant as i have used many versions but the problems persist. allow me to explain, im in no way new to android nor tethering. i have followed all the steps to get 4g tethering speeds ( toggle data off, disable 4g re enable and so on) the thing is i cant get a stable connection from my laptop or my xoom for more than 20 mins. the connection either goes idle or the phone just restarts or i simply get disconnected from it. im just wondering whether it' s just me or whether this a common problem among photon users. many thanks and great forum.

I believe the 4G on your phone becomes idle. Just a guess.
I have heard this happens to other Photon users as well. Not sure what the cause of it is or the fix. I'm going to try some things out when I get time and see what mine does. I've never tried to tether for that long of time before. Will post back if I find out anything new.
**I can only test 3G. No 4G in my area.
Are you rooted or using a rom?
**Ignore this (my) post...had something but changed my mind***
thanks. yes rooted & stock

Getting horrible battery life with 3g, I9100T

Hi all,
I am using a Vodafone branded I9100t.
It is running a dual boot of cm9 and cm10.
I am using it on the Optus network.
i am currently using the DUKJ1 modem, which has good connection speed, but the battery life with it is terrible. if i use 3G for browseing the web, after 20 mins, it will have used 10% of the battery.
And if I leave it in sleep with 3g turned on, it will loose over 10% of battery a hour, if not more.
i have googled it and cant find anything about my problem.
can someone please tell me which modem i should be using?
I have tried loads of modems, but they all give me either bad battery or bad data speed.
Does anyone know what the default modem Optus use on there own branded i9100t?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me
Cheers Corey

How many battery cycles have you gone through after you flashed it? You need to give it at least three before you judge the battery. You can also get better battery stats from xda app section and cpu spy from the play store to see your wake locks and if your device is deep sleeping

Network Connection lost with 4.3 and 4.4

Hi all,
I tried some of the available 4.3 and 4.4 rom but I got a huge problem is that I lost my mobile network connection after some time and sometimes even rebooting does not fix it. Sometimes when I do a call I immediately lost the connection and after 10 sec it is back and switching to 3G it let me do the call.
What can be the cause of that?
Thanks in advance for your help
Try a different modem. Ril in the custom roms may not like you're modem.

Do you know which one I should use? Also what is RIL and which one should I use?
I changed Modem to KI4 that I found better following comments on xda but after 3 weeks I got that problem twice one on friday and one yesterday. When my battery is low I lost connection and my phone become laggier and hot. What is causing that? What should I do?
Go back to stock firmware with odin and see if same problems are happening.
What rom are you on now mate?

I went to stock with odin as you did and still now it seems to be ok. I tried Neat ROM 4.4.2, Cyonogen 4.3 / 4.4, Slim Saber 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and Neat ROM 4.1.2 and I got that problem mainly when battery is below 25% but not all time. My network simply no more working and in Quick Panel I can see No Service/Emtel (Emtel is my network provider) but I can't do nothing sometime rebooting do the trick but sometime I need to power off the phone and let it charge for about 30 min and power on and then it is back to ok. The weird thing is that it does not happened everytime sometime my battery can do to 1% and still having connection fully.
When I got that problem I noticed that my phone is heater and sometime lag.
What can be the cause of that? I'm on Stock right now without root I will tried it but the problem does not happened everytime sometime I can get it after 1 week or sometimes after 3 weeks or more.
Please help me as I would like to have 4.4.2 on my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help
Can someone help please?
Service maybe due to provider or signal tower near by. How old is you're current battery? Signal drops once in a while are very hard to solve. Things to try are modems and other network's.. That's about it. But if it only happens once in a while it's not to much to worry about and most if not all Android phones need a reboot once In a while too.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, I tried to reinstall 4.4.2 from Neat ROM and I found that the problem occur everytime my battery is below 20% and only charging it back to a higher level fix the problem of my network loss. What can be the cause?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Does it shut of signal at 20% every time? Have you installed any mod to do this to you're signal? It could be a faulty battery messing with you're signal. Battery is the first thing I would check .

The fact is that I don't understand the battery. It does not happened ever time below 20% sometimes I can use it till 1% and it is working fine and sometimes no. I don't understand the battery as when I have this problem I can power off my phone and put on charge and while charging it indicated sometimes 40%, 60% etc... as on it is saying only less than 20% you think it is the battery?
One more thing this only happened when I have data connection on but if I disable data then it work fine.
