[Q] Evo 4G LTE. Stuck with RegawMOD process - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Several months ago I started the RegawMOD root process before HTC blocked the tokens. Thing is, it didn't complete. My bootloader screen shows Unlocked. But it didn't go beyond this point. Which may have been the result of my previously malfunctioning computer. I have software version: 1.22.651.3.
Presently, I'm running into a situation because I want to finish rooting this so I can proceed to installing a custom ROM. Obviously I can't just run RegawMOD's .exe again because of the HTC token issue, and from what I've been reading on XDA, this software version (1.22.651.3) doesn't have an un-root process.
I really don't know what to do at this point, I'm not very experienced with rooting/rom'ing and as near as I can tell, there's nothing I can do. Does anyone have any ideas about how to correct this?

If it says unlocked then u need to flash a recovery.. Then from recovery u flash whatever custom rom u want.. Most all custom roms are rooted with busybox.. So just flash recovery then flash rom and u will be golden!:good:

Thank you. As I mentioned, I'm relatively new to this, so not entirely sure what to search for on XDA to flash recovery. I'm not asking for the answers, but, do you have any recommended search terms that I should use?

Look up team unlimited on the web, download twrp for your phone, enable usb debugging in dev options and push the recovery to your phone with adb.

Stuck more than ever
So, here's the deal: I found out that when I went through the Regaw root process, I do actually have a recovery on here. So I attempted to flash a ROM, which promptly wouldn't load. It says "unknown Md5 error".I looked up some information about the MD5, and it's related to some left-over stuff from before I used the root process, which I've lost because I've since formatted my computer.
I tried running RUU; it typically fails saying it can't detect the device. I've downloaded all the HTC drivers and the RUU starts ok sometimes, but not all the time. Right now, the only screens I can get to are the bootloader and recovery.

Download a ROM with a son installer included. Boot into recovery by holding power and volume down. Wipe everything in recovery except your storage. Mount your phone to your PC via USB mount storage. Transfer the rom to your phone and flash.

need help for stock return

I am an unfortunate rookie, and have made mistakes, hence the name. I want to return my phone to stock from htcdev unlock, s-on, hboot 1.5. with a boot loop on meanom ICS for the evo 3d. I have tried to use older ruu shooters. Relock with fastbot oem lock, and then pg86img. However with the bootloop I can not access anything unless I unlock again, and then go into recovery. This is all that I can think of at the moment that might help.
Kill the rookie!!! PLEASE HELP!!
I had much the same problem with my cdma, hboot 1.5, S-On shooter. When I was S-On none of the ICS roms would work. The all bootlooped on me. If you follow the rooting method found here on xda, it will get you back to a stock Rooted GB Rom.
go into hboot -> fastboot USB-> run command dos -> fastboot cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.IMG -> flash the 2.17 firmware-> enjoy.
I had to S-off with Juopunutbear, then re-run that root/flash to get past the bootloops.

Unfortunately I have tried that and it still is not working.
My only suggestion would be to try it a few times, other then that, its above my head.

Have you tried one of the ruu exe files that you run from your computer? If you are trying to go stock, you should be able to relock the bootloader and run the ruu and that's it.
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
First of all I want to thank everyone that has been attempting to assist me with my problem. I have tried to relock since I am on htcdev unlock and then run an ruu force via my computer. I get an installation aborted error when trying to flash pg86img via recovery. I don't know what else to say.
You can't flash a bootloader zip from recovery. You have to flash it from hboot. Also make sure the zip is named correctly "PG86IMG.zip" without the quotes. Also make sure the zip is on the root of your sd as in not in any folders. Once you've named the zip correctly and placed it correctly then power off the phone. Hold down the volume down button and tap the power button. You should boot into the bootloader wait until the phone recognizes the zip and follow the on screen instructions. Hopefully this helps.

Thank you again. I tried your directions, it did recognize the pg86img. However it did not give me any instructions to follow. It did however allow me to be able to a partial stock state. My software version is still on the teamgenesis sense v2.9 cdma. Although I do like some of the features on this rom, I would still like to be able to get the OTA of ICS when it is released. Any suggestions?

To get the ota release (if it ever comes ) I do believe you will need to be locked and running the existing gingerbread rom. While I am not positive, I think the system uses the props file to determine if an update is applicable, and it will likely not recognize the teamgenesis rom version as being upgradeable.
Now I will likely get flames for saying this, but if you want to put the meanrom v2.4 of ICS on the phone, it can be done with s-on, you just need to follow the correct process. I ran that rom for a while, and it is very stock like, stable, and has a few enhancements that you will not find on a non-rooted stock rom. I never found anything wrong or not working with that rom.
To get it to load, first I downloaded flashimagegui from market, put the meanrom zip file on the sd card and made sure I had a recovery that I could get into. I am using TWRP v2.1.1, lots of folks talk about others like ext4, and I am only going to say use whichever you like, after all it is your phone.
Then with the phone unlocked via the htc method, I started the flashimage app, and browsed to the meanrom file. It extracted the kernel and flashed it. Once that was done, with clear cache buttons selected, rebooted to recovery, and used the install menu selection of TWRP to again flash the same rom file. Once it flashed the file, selected clear cache and dalvik just to be safe, selected reboot system, and it worked great.
Have a great weekend.
So, apparently I am still doing something wrong. I have put the pg86img on the root, relocked to the bootloader, and let it run it's course. However, it will get through with reading it and stops and does not finish anything with loading the system information. I have also tried to run the ruu via usb connection. I keep running into a c++ issue saying runtime error. I have wiped everything and thankfully I did make a backup of the rom and other information that I was runing so I can currently fall back on that.
I am on hboot 1.5, 2.17, and teamgenesis ICS rom for evo 3d.
Apparently there have been rumors that Sprint has finally released the ICS OTA, not that it really matters anymore, but I have run into a few interesting glitches, such as WIFI not staying connected while asleep or disconnecting.
If I have to I am willing to pay to do a netmeeing with someone in order to be able to fix this.
Sorry if it sounds like I am getting frustrated, but I have tried every walkthrough that I have found and have not had any luck with any of them.
Please help.

[Q] Rooting HTC Rezound

I just went through the procedure to root my HTC Rezound using the instructions from The Unlocker. After I completed the procedure my phone rebooted and Superuser app was installed on my phone and I am still getting the message that my phone is not rooted. I am currently running ICS and don't know if that is the problem. I've seen other forums where they talk about "S" being on or off. I really don't know what that means. I reveiwed the procedure again and did not see that step. This is my first time rooting any phone. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Download CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip from here...

... move it to your ext_sd card, then flash it from recovery. Installing SuperSU will automatically uninstall the Superuser app.

After you unlock your phone. You need to isntall a custom recovery. There are 3 in ths forum. TWRP. CWM. and AmonRA. Find the one you like the most. Just ask if you don't know how to install it. Each thread should have instructions. After flashing the recovery, install the zip in the post above through the custom recovery that you floshed and you will have root inside of your ROM.
The S-on you can say is security-on. It blocks you from messing with certain partitions on the phone you could say. If you want to flash a new rom. You will have to flash the boot.img in HBOOT or fastboot via a computer.
Don't be afraid to ask anything. Just make sure you search first.

[Q] Trouble flashing ROM, believe is due to S-OFF

Hello. So I've tried multiple times flashing ROMs to my device, and have always had problems somewhere along the line. The furthest I got was successfully flashing this ROM, but it ended up in a boot loop. I believed it was due to my device being S-ON, even though I've successfully rooted and unlocked my bootloader via HTCdev and thus I've been attempting to get S-OFF. I tried JuopunutBear but got an error message related to checking my adb and fastboot drivers (Which I'm fairly sure are up to date and working) and I think the problem is I am on HBOOT 1.57. I've been attempting to downgrade using this guide (Which uses Revolutionary to get S-OFF in which case I wouldn't need JuopunutBear). I only got a bit of the way in, however, before I got stuck. After relocking my device it tells you to put the RUU zip on your device, but my computer isn't detecting my device and I'm stuck in the bootloader. I've tried shutting it off, trying all the options in the bootloader, taking out the battery, entering commands into adb, and probably some other things I've forgot, but I'm still stuck on the bootloader and my device isn't detected at all on my computer (Either in command prompt or in the explorer window).
Essentially what I'm asking here is:
How do I get my phone unstuck from bootloader?
Do I need S-OFF to be able to flash ROMs?
If I don't need S-OFF, what was I doing wrong? Should I try a different ROM?
And I suppose I may as well ask if that's a worthwhile ROM. I want something that optimizes my device and allows for custom themes, but otherwise I'm not too picky.
Specs:
Windows Vista (With ADB and fastboot, as well as HTC Sync and other phone drivers. Essentially I think I have all the software I'd need installed.)
HTC EVO 3D CDMA with Virgin Mobile as the carrier.
HTCdev unlocked bootloader
S-ON
HBOOT 1.57
Stock ROM
4ext recovery
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
(Also I apologize if I didn't give all the information needed or if I posted this in the incorrect spot. I figured this would be the most appropriate spot since although I have issues with specific processes it's also a fairly general request for help.)
UPDATE: I tried re-unlocking my phone using HTCdev so I'm no longer stuck in bootloader. I'm going to be trying the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit guide again sometime today or tomorrow to see if I can get it working. I think one of the problems before was that I didn't put the RUU on the sdcard beforehand and then my device wasn't being recognized so i couldn't put it there then. If I put it on beforehand I should be able to update successfully and get past the step I was stuck on before.

It will be your hboot causing the problems.
Most recoveries allow you to mount usb storage so you can use that option to connect to your pc and move the ruu across without removing your sdcard etc.

[Q] Help with rumrunner

Ok since I have less than 10 posts I can not post in the area that I would have liked to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559232
I am having the same Issue as badfishie in that I am stuck on the:
Under Test 2:
Rebooting into bootloader (again)
Waiting for fastboot (6/120)
FATAL: Download updated package at www.rumrunner.us
After I Downloaded it again a second time, and the DNA version. Yes I tried the first version first, and investigated it.
I have followed GrzlyAdms advice and factory reset my device numerous times.
I even gone so far as to Return my device to factory Sence 5.

My bootloader still shows S-OFF from the moonshine that I was successful at applying.
But after the OTA with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper not able to keep root...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241517
I am once again trying to gain root access for my device.
I have:
Made sure usb debugging was on
Made sure verifying apps was off
Made sure fastboot was off
Made sure no lock screen was selected
Made sure to use a USB 2.0 port, and Original USB cord
Made sure adb can see my device
Run soju as Administrator
Drivers installed with Tool kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219175
AV and firewall disabled
Using Windows 7 x64 and Minimal ADB and Fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!
Mind if I ask why are you trying to unlocked you bootloader and soff or your already soff?
Ok, I'll try to help best I can. Hopefully one of the more experienced folks can chime in too as they'll probably be way more helpful. I've got a couple guesses, but need to know a bit more. Please know that I'm only providing my best guesses as I haven't run into this problem.
What firmware version were you on when you tried rumrunner? It sounds like you already had an unlocked bootloader and s-off... through moonshine. Did you end up with a locked bootloader? If so, how? You mentioned that you went back to sense 5. What method? Did you ruu back to a stock rom or just flash one of the Custom/stock ROMs.
Here is one possible option. I would suggest reading through the thread thoroughly before diving in...
- Go back to 100% stock with locked bootloader and s-on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919
Then make sure you've taken any OTA updated to get to 3.06.605.4 and you should be able to use rumrunner.

The reason the thing is failing is because he already has a unlocked bootloader with soff. I don't know why he is trying to unlock something that is already unlocked. All he needs to do is download something like superuser or flash a custom rom with root built into it.

10-4. That's kinda what I thought too, but figured I'd try to confirm by asking a few questions. I have seen a few people get stuck with s-off but a locked bootloader if they goof up the process trying to go back to 100% stock. Thought I'd ask the questions just in case this is what he did.
Ok, I would like to keep the Stock Android, but would like to have root access.
I an unsure how to gain root access with out turning S-ON.
I could follow that and turn S-ON again,
But if you have another method of gaining ROOT with out flashing a custom ROM,
I would be grateful for your assistance.
Sorry for any confusion on that,
I spent 10hrs trying to figure this out yesterday,
it was necessary to put down and look at another day.
I have tried downloading superuser and supersu from the play store, neither give me access to root
However I have looked on your forums since you suggested simply flashing another rom already with root access - Thanks for that btw
this post shows the full version, but has odex and deodex, well deodex is pulled, may i ask what the difference is?

You must already have a superuser app to install one from the play store. Flash a superuser zip from recovery. That will put both the app and the required binaries in place.

From what I have learned so far, running rumrunner when you are already S-OFF will net you a FAILED message. if your DNA is already S-OFF then feel free to flash whatever ROM you want.. well sorta, make sure it's for the DNA, and flash at your own risk.
I took the OTA after achieving S-OFF with moonshine and it removed my root access... now I am in this boat where I want to regain root.
I have finally finished downloading the zip from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560010
But I have no idea how to flash it, step by step instructions would be helpful since this is my first flash and I have yet to figure it out. I have tried fastboot flash zip but that didn't work, and I am unfamilar with this....
The FAQ here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188944
is of no help unfortunately....
I found some Instructions that tell you to boot into recovery, but when I try to boot into recovery all I get is a RED ! and Triangle above a screen. like something went wrong :/
Start by downloading ROM and the patch and copy the file to the SD card’s root in your device.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. For this, power off your device and restart it keeping the volume down key pressed. Your phone will be booted into bootloader fastboot mode.
In the Recovery mode, use the ‘Power ’key to select and to navigate use the ‘Volume’ keys.
Use ‘backup and restore’ option to create a backup.
Now perform three steps in a row: first wipe data//factory reset, then wipe cache and lastly wipe dalvik cache accessing the advanced menu.
Now install zip from your sdcard, then select ROMs zip file you copied to your phone and choose zip.
Redo it for Patch file once you are done with ROM installation.
At the end, reboot your phone.
Lovely I didn't have a recovery installed, using the tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219175
I installed the TWRP 2.5.0.0 recovery,
THEN I was able to enter recovery and flash the ROM.
WOW what a experience, this has been.

if you want to revert to stock, since i didn't flash the second till i flashed the first, i would suggest that you do that, if you want to go with another custom rom, follow it's instructions, if it asks for a specific starting point, aka stock 4.2.2 then flash the first one then flash the custom one.

[Q] Trying to restore a friend's Evo - Fastboot is the only thing that functions.

My friend made the mistake of following a youtube video and really messed up his phone. He has TWRP installed but he's S-On and deleted his restore image. The only thing that functions on this phone is HBOOT. The bootloader was relocked, and now I can't even access recovery. I need some help here. He was trying to get a custom rom installed, but he never went S-Off. Running the RUU provided in DirtyRacun wouldn't work even though it was for the correct HBOOT version. I have no idea where to start on fixing this thing. It is running HBOOT-2.09. I am very comfortable using adb and fastboot - I use it frequently with my HTC One. This almost seems beyond repair - but I'm pretty sure it is fixable. Please help. I have access to both a Linux and a Windows machine, so a solution involving either isn't out of the question. Since recovery isn't accessable, it has to be a fix involving fastboot and adb almost exclusively.
Have you tried to unlock the bootloader again? Once you unlock you can push a recovery to the phone and then flash a ROM. Remember, since he's S-on you'll have to install the kernel separately from the ROM (or use a ROM that has a S-on kernel installer). Hit the top link in my sig for more info.

I unlocked the bootloader again and got back in to TWRP. Because I am S-On I pushed MeanBean v284 onto the phone but the installation fails every time. I've tried wiping everything, formatting the partitions again, and I can't get past this point.
EDIT: My error says:
"E-Mount: Unable to find partition for path '/MeanBean-v284-jewel-ltevo.zip'
Error flashing zip '/MeanBean-v284-jewel-ltevo.zip'
Updating partition details..."
What version of TWRP and where did you get it?

2.7.0.0. He said it was linked from the xda forums. Also, I am going to try the rumrunner s off that was recommended on your guide right now. I can't enable USB debugging because there is no OS on the device right now.
You'll need to install a ROM before you can S-off.
Also, once you get recovery working again you may find the guide in the link below useful.

According to the MeanBean guide, it will work S-On. I'm not sure if you have to flash the kernel seperately, and on top of that I'm not sure how to do that. I haven't been able to find specific instructions other than using fastboot with a boot.img file. I haven't tried this yet with MeanBean, but it didn't work with the Viper Rom.
EDIT: I made it to the step where you flash the ROM (further than I've gotten so far today...). It says the kernel was not installed when installing MeanBean.
Just follow the directions in the ROM thread and you'll be fine. You essentially have to flash the zip file twice. If you want further info, click the top link in my sig.

After installing the second time, I am still getting the same: "ERROR: Kernel Not Installed!
Copying flashable ZIPs. to /sdcard/Meanbean
Please reboot now!
Updating partition details..."
I am gradually looking through all 949 pages to try to find a solution
EDIT 2: I tried flashing the boot.img file using fastboot as it said in your post to install the kernel. I am still getting that installation error.
