I want to update my phone but I have TWRP as my custom recovery, is there any way to install the update from there? Or do I need to get the stock recovery back?

You have to be stock to install the OTA update. If you want to wait, I am sure there will be a flashable zip of the stock ROM in the Developer forum.

Is it likely that this flashable zip will also include any kernel and radio updates that the OTA update has?

You can update the firmware now as it has been posted already to get the new radio. Kernel is part of the ROM and/or a flashable Zip.
Here's a stock rooted 4.4.4/XNPH33R ROM. Includes root and the rest is untouched, so it's OTA safe.
Also if you haven't already, flash the updated radio files that was included in the XNPH33R OTA below
Stock Rooted 4.4.4/XNPH33R ROM - Mirror

XNPH33R Radio files, etc
md5 - abb5c9e4f0452ae51f66804ea23530b8
can i flash the radio via recovery ?

434MB, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're on a capped plan

Radio is not included in ROM zip, so you have to flash it seperately

It should work on any custom recovery and it doesn't wipe your data

The actual binary is different but I don't know why CM doesn't change the version #, they do the same thing on the nightlies which have newer radios, etc
Muuuuuuuuuuuuuch better than that 30O version, thanks again!!!
Now let's see if they DID fix the standby battery drain shall we
I hardly could get the download started on dev-host.
Mirror works amazing. Thanks for this upload. Looking forward to seeing how it feels.

Only recovery.img posted there is for 1.12.502, which is very old.
Its easy enough to RUU to stock, which is why you don't see stock recovery or ROM files posted too often for the AT&T version. Plus, RUU guarantees the ROM is stock (if the ROM is modified, the OTA fail).
Here's the one I grabbed from my current stock rom:

For rooting, you can use any customization. By the way, why don't you downgrade to Kitkat?
It's quite easy. After rooting and installing recovery, you can upgrade to your desired MM pre-rooted firmware.

Yeah as long as it's Kitkat, it should be easy to root.
To simplify: Downgrade firmware, Root, Install Custom Recovery (CWM or TWRP, or both), Download pre-rooted flashable zips (OR you can prepare your own pre-rooted package via PRFCreator), and finally flash your pre-rooted MM.
I'm currently using pre-rooted MM 23.5.A.0.570 though.
