I have Vista Home Premium 64bit and I did download WinRAR 64 bit edition. Whenever I try to install that there claims to be a corrupt file and I have downloaded it a few times from a few sites.
So I go back to the 32 bit version of WinRAR and that installs fine, but reminds me for better performance to use the 64 bit version.
Now, whenever I extract a ZIP or RAR file the Update.exe is missing or I receive a message about the CRC security not matching. AND if and only if I can get the files extracted when I try to install the ROM the Gtab is constantly stating a "status 7" error. I have tried TNT, VEGAn and 1 other ROM and each will not install.
Is there anyone who would be willing to use Skype or some other means to assist me in getting the tablet back up and running something, even if that's the stock ROM?
I do have Clockwork Mod installed already, that was the only thing that seems to have installed correctly.
Thank you in advance,
Brian
If I undertsand correctly: Youre trying to extract the contents of the "update.zip" file that comes as part of the ROM download?
If so.. you dont extract it, you leave it as "update.zip" in your sdcard directory.
I remember seeing a "pictoral" view of what your filesystem should look like in this xda somewhere. Ill try to find it.
No, I am having problem extracting the ROMs from Zip or Rar, so I went and downloaded Memtest86 just to see if there was a RAM problem. That checked out fine after an hour of testing.
Most every Zip or Rar I try to extract have CRC errors, even if it's unrelated to this site. But part of that causes the Update.zip not to extract at all and I only get the "recovery" folder and Command and the Update.zip had an error and doesn't extract.
I then tried it on a laptop with Win7 and I could extract some files then more errors, then I tried a Win XP laptop and that seemed to extract the files fine.
My latest is now the Gtab is bricked, stuck trying to install recovery that never ends. So I looked up for the USB driver and nvflash and the ROM that goes with that and the Gtab doesn't show up as a removable drive so I can transfer the files on there. I have copied them to SDcard but I can't get that to read the data.
So, at this point the Gtab is looping and I cannot get back into Clockwork or get it to show as a drive using the USB drivers and the -Vol and Power button.
Currently when I just power on the tablet in red text I get:
Magic value mismatch:
:"
Critical failure: Unable to start kernel.
Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000002).
FIXED
PROBLEM FIXED.
I saw another thread stating similar problem, located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026757 and followed the advice of a few people and now the Gtab is working again. Its stock ROM but the main thing is it's working again.
I posted this on the fool proof thread for going from 3588 to 4349. Having troubles and looking for help.
NVFlash confuses me.
I basically just want to install a good 1.2 based ROM and stick with it. Have no intention of going back top 3588.
How do i make it so that if i ever do brick the device or have a need to go back, it just starts as if 4349 is my starting point?
My problems using the foolproof method is that the external SD card i purchased an loaded the necessary files to was not recognized when i followed the choose sdcard/update from sdcard instruction. I am thinking it might be looking for internal SD card as i definitely put the files on it and partioned per intructions...
Anyway, did work or i messed up somehow - looking for alternatives.
Thanks
Okay...I located the file from one of Robeet's threads.
New/additional question to any who view and have know-how/skills:
In his thread he mentions to flash to 4349 DO NOT use CWM. Well, that was teh first thing i did - install CWM.
How do i go about uninstalling?
I also noticed mybe some of my earlier troubles were in that my command file was created in notepad (he warns against file extensions).

You can still use CWM to flash the stock firmware from teh source he provides. Let me guess, his file is a rar file, when unzipped, you are left with a file called "update.zip" and a folder called "recovery" with a command file in it.
What this is, is the format used to flash something using stock recovery. If you do not have CWM, you'd turn on your tablet, holding +, and it will "see" the recovery file, which will let it know to run the update.zip file.
Since you HAVE CWM, all you need to do is "install zip from SD" and install the update.zip file, just like you would any other rom.
to keep it organized, I suggest you rename it 4349.zip, or stockfirmware.zip, etc.
but yeah, it's completely possible to do it through CWM
as for the "command" file, yes, if it's created in notepad on a windows machine, it will be command.txt. you can't have the .txt part. I use notepad++ to creat files without extensions. You can also do it on the tablet using ES file explorer, root explorer, etc...
Thanks so much for replying!!
Let me ask you or anyone else who knows - When you write "install zip from SD" are you referring to the external or internal?
One more possibly one of the silliest questions that can be asked: How do you move files from one drive to another on this device? I was toying around last night with teh file explorer program and honestlt could not figure it out. I do not use a mouse or anything - normally i would cut/copy and paste teh file to desired location.
Please Help. Thanks again!
SD is generally the internal, MICROSD or SDCARD2 is the external.
Re: The windows notepad. If you want to save a file without the .txt extension or to change the extension simply Save As and put quotes around the name.
I have an S-OFF HTC Incredible S 4G running 2.3.3 trying to get it rooted, I am trying to keep up but so use to stupid iPhone modding/themeing so just lost on how to send or use my SD card for ROMS? Can I just use the old word (shsh) files over to my phone while its plugged in its the Fdisk and do I put the files into 'root', I have installed Superuser app/ROM Manager app onto my phone also have Gingerbreak.v.120apk on my desktop plus Superuser.apk am I lost or what and anyone willing to help but go easy on me?
Thanks, TheCrow
Do you have ClockworkMod Recovery installed?
I have ROM Manager installed off the Market but my question is probably the one that I'm can't get the answer for which is, how do I transfer things onto my SD card cuz I have played a lot with my old iPhone 4 with mods/themes and so on but never had to write to my SD card atleast I don't think I did thats why I ask if its as easy as dragging and dropping files over to my phone while its plugged into my computer as 'use as driver'? I can't even get the CWM to work properly because it says something about 'special privillages', I have S-OFF but just want to get rooted so I can move on to the fun . Do I need something set on my phone or installed to get going, I also put Superuser & Astro on my phone from the Market so can if you have the time just give me a few dumby steps to point me in the right direction and I am over at the Android Newzealand site which is awesome but they get most files from here and only one guy is trying to help

@Crow1372
I am all about trying to get things done in the easiest way possible to help the people that are new to Android.
This method has worked for me but there is no guarentee that it will work for you and I am no way responsible for anything that happens to your device.
DO THE ROOTING PROCESS AT YOUR OWN RISK
Procedure to Root HTC Incredible S
1. Install the ADB on your computer, but before that you will have to turn on the USB debugging in your incredible S which can be turned ON by pressing the “Menu” key first then “Settings” > “Applications” > “Development”. Now here you will find an option of “USB debugging”, select the option and just accept the warning which it will pop up. It’s very important to put the device in the USB debugging and also important to go through the ADB setup process without which it’s not advised to proceed.
2. Now you will have to download the Rooting package which you will have to unzip the same and need to place in the location path c:\adb after which you will have to connect the phone to the computer.
3. Now, open the command prompt and key in the “cmd” and then you will have to make use of the change directory command so that the directory in which you have placed the rooting file can be accessed.
4. Next type in the “pushroot” and enter the same, basically this will push in the pushroot.bat file.
After this type in adb shell /data/local/tmp/getroot and after that type in adb shell and press enter.
After typing in the above commands, you will now be prompted as # after which you will have to type in /data/local/tmp/pushroot.
That’s it you have now successfully rooted the HTC Incredible S

Try reflashing CWM Recovery. Since you have S-OFF, it should work. If you get it to work, then flash (install zip from SD in CWM) the attached file and you should be rooted.

I appreciate the one above yours and kinda understand it but waaay too indepth maybe, I also tried yours but when I go to HBoot menu and Recovery to look for the .zip file it is no where and I plugged my device into computer and 'debugging Enabled' also set my connection as 'disk drive' to load the file to my SD card but still can't find it?? I can't believe it is this hard cuz I see many others rooted and flying away on their Incredible S 4G, I was able to get the Gingerbreak.v.1.20apk on my device but it just keeps loading and saying that it will reboot once successful but after 20-30mins I figured it was not going to work also I have ROM Manager installed already but as you know no Superuser previlliages yet so can't load CWM

Have you tried searching for the zip when your device is NOT connected to your pc? And just so you know, you do NOT need superuser privileges (root) to be able to use ClockworkMod especially since you already have S-OFF. Have you tried flashing a different version of ClockworkMod? You could try using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638 to flash it from your PC.

I'll try finding it without being plugged in to pc, I put Gingerbreak.v.1.20apk on my SD card no issues so I shouldn't have an issue putting the CWM on but do you have a newer version (sorry) also do you think one of my issues is that I have a CWM on my 'Astro' file finder but the files say they don't exist so should I delete it and start over with a newer one that you may have and should I take of ROM Manager until I finish putting these files in cuz it should not be this hard others are rooted on their Incredible S 4G 2.3.3.

Please explain this. Here's the image: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recoveries/cwm-4.0.1.4-vivo.img .
I can't open that image, my Winrar is acting up can you explain the image please (sorry)?
Also when I go to my 'Programs' on my computer 'Uninstall' it shows the SDK Tools with an 'X' beside it like it did not fully install, I don't know if I really need the ADB & SDK tools but I'll keep trying that later but I want to try your methods as well cuz as I mentioned it should not be this hard to root my phone right but I have to go to Doctors so I will check in later and keep trying

You are not supposed to open the image. Download Android Flasher, connect your device to your pc, run Android Flasher, select recovery (at the side), find the image file you downloaded, select it, click ok (and again if necessary), and it'll do the rest.
Question, I drag and drop files over to my phone while plugged in to my SD card but everyone says to the root folder I just don't have a 'root' folder so one guy said to drop the files into the very first one and that is what I did with Gingerbreak.v1.20apk but it just says its rooting and will reboot device when done? After 3 attempts each at 15-25mins the wheel is still spinning so am I putting it in the right spot, Gingerbreak does show up in my apps drawer but the unzipped versions of CWM or Superuser never show up on my device even when I go to 'recovery' through Revolutionary to unzip it?

Did you read/understand my previous post?
Kinda but how does that have anything to do with rooting my Incredible S (sorry) its just that I'm new to HTC devices and I've been told that I have to be rooted to put ROM themes on my device and I have S-OFF, thats not enough is it? I tried the guy above yous method of ADB but my computer does not 'recognize that path', I did exactly what his video says but again is either of these methods going to get me 'rooted cuz all I want to do is start enjoying my phone plus your saying I don't have to have 'Superuser Permissions' to use CWM?? Sorry bro if I'm being difficult but I just want to be rooted already and have you heard of this angermod or what ever its called, like Gingerbreak or something?
HELP PLEASE lol, thanks
Forget about Gingerbreak. The tool (and instructions) is to flash the custom recovery (ClockworkMod) to your device. I said this before, and I'll say it again, using ClockworkMod recovery DOES NOT require root. You are going to root your device by using Clockwork to flash the file attached in post #5. After flashing that file, your device will be rooted.
When I go to extract it they ask for a gehroot password, I copied what looks like a password under my Incredible S/Vivo but that one did not work for the CWM download
I will try this tomorrow 4 sure and thanks for your patients, fill you in when I'm rooted (hopefully) Also is there a special password to download the CWM for my Incredible S/Vivo, sorry again?
One more question (sorry) the one I did download the other day was supposed to be CWM but it has all kinds of other files with it like 13 files including 'SuperOneClick' also suv1/v2/v3 plus 'busybox' but don't see cwm anywhere so anyway do I use the 'Android Flasher' and flash all of them like the whole folder or each one individually?
In the CWM image file, there are like 13 files that came with it like suv1/v2/v3 plus busybox and SuperOneClick so which or all of these files do I flash with Android Flasher?
Didn't see a thread for this even though I saw some discussions floating around.
http://www.filefactory.com/f/4ef0ef536face67a (Evo3D RUU repository) has the Rogers ICS update available in the RUU format.
RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_Rogers_WWE_3.28.631.1_Radio_11.77.3504... is the file you are looking for. You end up with the Rogers ICS update after installing this.
Installing this wiped my Android install, but my internal memory (SD FAT) was untouched.
I updated from Gingerbread with S-OFF 1.49.1007 to this ROM successfully by renaming rom.zip to PG86IMG.zip into the internal 'SD' memory's root directory.
My CID was ROGERS001 to begin with, so I didn't have to make any changes for the RUU to install itself.
You can get this file by running the exe file from Windows and by looking in the temporary directory created by the setup utility.
If you type "%tmp%" into your 'Run' prompt from Windows, you will open the parent directory of the temporary directory where you can find this file.
I started from S-OFF and ended up with S-OFF but 'locked'. I finally did HTCDEV unlock after this, and ended up with S-OFF unlocked without having to do anything else.
This should be in general

Attached i will have a link to my google drive with programs and zip files for everyone to use will explain further.
Okay I have a few problems going... here is what I have and have tried and the issues I have been having... I have log files and such saved too should you need those.
Synthoms: LGK20 PLUS aka TP260
- I needed a Binary update for SU... (never did get that to work) Somehow afterwards my phone would only reboot into Twrp Recovery on boot loop.
-I installed an Update SU file ( also didn't work) then the phone started booting into only fastboot.... ( I had a brief issue of it not connecting on ADB but I hade to just end task adb in the task menu (Crtl Alt Del in case somebody has same problem) Afterwards connected no problem.
-I have wiped datas and cache and all sorts of instuctions to no avail.. lol
_phone now boot immediately to fastboot but I am able to get to twrp recovery just fine
Whats Weird:
-I can see the device on the computer get onto the sd card add files and zip files and the computer recognizes it n o problem at all... but LG MOBILE SUPPORT LGUP LG Bridge and LG Flash Tool.... all do not recognize my phone.
-But no matter where I partition anything and no matter what recovery img or zip file I install... it just only wants to open into fastboot.... I'm sure it is a very simple operation to fix... maybe one of you have a restore file can put on the SD with mine that have done me no good? Any help would be appreciated hardcore lol and I appreciate the learning experience a per i have learned a lot..
Heres what I have collected in my attempts
A: I have a Twrp.img and Recovery.img (not sure if they are a recovery or boot partition)
B: I have ADB it connects to my device fine and I can even flash onto the phone but seems to not be helping lol
C: : LG Bridge and LG UP do not see that my phone is connected (all my drivers are updated)
D: I have a stock KTZ file for my phone but I have no programs to flash it except adb (the others will not recognize my phone except ADB
E: I am very sure Xposed may have something to do with this... I downloaded an uninstaller and the zip file will not flash error 555 or something like that.
F: I'm very sure I need a Boot.img?? this I know little about but I have a program to build one if I can figure out how lol.
G: My recoveries did not work :0(
H: None of my SU zips seem to be working (is why I believe Xposed is behind it lol.
I: There are commands you can put into the terminal in TWRP recovery ( I can get there will explain further later) to disable Xposed but they say to create a folder name \data\data\....ect ect... There is no way that the TWRP recovery will let me create folders so I'm at a loss there.....
Chances are there was software on the phone that allows the LG software on the computer to see it.
I'm not seeing the Google drive link, but if you wiped the system & data partitions in TWRP, then you have no OS.
Don't know if TWRP can flash a KTZ file, most 3rd party ROMs are ZIP.
Is it Tmobile or MetroPCS?
I assume you have read Aletron9000's thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/lg-k20-plus-how-to-flash-original-rom-t3632850/page1
It seems like it has a download mode similar to Samsung phones when using Odin. I have a OnePlus and its straight forward, TWRP (in twrp plugging into pc will bring up the device in file mode so you can copy rom and gapps zip files) and once I got twrp on my mom's galaxy s4 it was same process with LineageOS 14.1 and the phone runs 10x better.
I wish I knew if you could flash the KTZ file in twrp, but I doubt it.. If you can uncompress it in 7zip or winrar, then zip it again that may work. But if your just trying to install a factory image (assuming that's what a KTZ is) the the directions in the link above should get you there. Then for root either flash supersu (apparently Chinese controlled if that matters) or maybe better magisk 16 from twrp (and the newest magisk manager apk from within the Android, should still pass safety check, and can install alot of modules that I previously used xposed for.
Only trust the magisk on xda-developers

TP260 SOFT BRICK: Recovery File?
I am on a TMOBILE phone... I"M sure that's exactly what my problem is... I did read that post and have LGUP (will also be in my drive link) BUT it does me no good because it will not show up on the program for me to flash anything to it...
If I could get somebody to send me a recovery file I would be able to put it into my SD card then load it up will solve my entire issue lol.
I did consider trying magicks honestly but I do not know enough about it to switch over like that... Once I get my phone back I will research into it and let you guys now how my adventure turns out. lol.... I'm a research first kind of person hahaha....
FILES
Soon I will type up instuctions for each KIT I put together. That way all the instructions will be able to be found in one place which will help out a lot of people looking for LG UP or Recovery.img or Twrp.img plus a lot of other stuff including SU zip file ect,,,
https://drive.google.com/open?id=10OXHQtyZBCap7PaqiGZEEErmo_th8xFp
The KTZ file would not upload but if You want I will send it no problem at all Just ask. I will be adding a couple other things on there too probably.
I believe my best bet would be to take that KTZ file (bugger wouldn't load onto my DRIVE account lol) but I thin I will take that and convert it to a zip file and maybe give that a shot... But when I flash something like that does it go under the BOOT or RECOVERY partition? I undertand what a partigtion is but I'm not sure of the difference between the BOOT and RECOVERY idea .... is recovery out ROM and BOOT our OS system?
