Hi All
I rooted my handset but then decided there isnt much out there at the moment for me in terms of custom ROMS so i restored a stock rom. I am now seeing a message "This version of the device cannot be updated" in Kies. Has anyone any idea how to fix this? Im running the latest Kies
Thanks
Kies updates product /firmware codes that match whats on the server . Requires your phone provider to have uploaded newer firmware than you have .
If you put a Samsung rom on the phone = no matching product/firmware codes .
Your Kies upgrade path is now closed ..

How so? this is now the third time I've seen you post this. Surely this only applies if you have flashed a custom rom. not stock.I flashed mine to KE1 via odin, but updated to KE2 through Kies. So what am I missing? Are you talking about the 'missing DLL' error? I did have that on my desktop, but kies worked fine on my laptop.
What is the easiest way to get back on track with Kies? Would flashing an older official firmware work?

you need to follow the debrand guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
basically you need to set the CSC to XEU in order to update via KIES

Third time more like three hundred .
Kies updates branded firmware via product codes hardware id and firmware id .
Hundreds if not tens of thousand who have installed Samsung so called stock firmware through Odin have received the no upgrade message from Kies .
Thats why Spoof FW was invented otherwise no need for it .
Its also why Kies has never given me an upgrade path since flashing stock rom via Odin .
Now i know one or two on SGS have managed to upgrade after stock rom but most are reporting no upgrade ( well you anyway ) .
Personally if some one is going to do something that may affect their warranty or change the update path or whatever i would rather tell them than not .
Stock rom Ke2 and i will test yet again via Kies when KE3 is out .
SGS2 bought sold SGS 1 running stock firmware No repeat no upgrade path through Kies until flashed original O2 rom and thats like two weeks ago .

Only Updated via Kies
Hi,
Only had my phone a week and have not done anything custom with it, it has updated twice through Kies in 1 week per request from Kies itself, today I go into Kies and it also says :
"This Version of the Device cannot be Updated"
Current Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
Why has Kies had no problem two times in the last week and is now saying this, has something gone wrong in the phone ?
Yesteray it just said the Latest Firmware was Installed ?

You have latest firmware therefore it cannot be upgraded .

I get this message to now on KE2 (O2 firmware) before I upgraded the message used to always Current and Latest firmware. I def think its a Kies problem.
Cheers Guy's
Was just yesterday it said ;
Latest Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
Current Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
and today the Latest Firmware Version is replaced with that error message, so assumed that there must be another update out but now the phone will not update it ?

It's giving that message because the firmware (KE2) has been removed. Your phone has a version of FW higher than Kies knows about hence it tells you it cannot be updated, wouldn't make sense otherwise. Once Samsung release a new FW I expect it to return to normal.

Just downgraded to I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100XEUKD1 using ODIN and Kies now says this is the "current version". Looks like this is the way back to kies updates if anyone wants this.
All sorted again, today KIES is reporting ;
PDA:KE7: PHONE:KE4: CSC:KD1 (XEU)
a big jump from ;
PDA:KE2: PHONE:KDJ: CSC:KD1 (XEU)
This version of device canot be updated
Current firmware version : PDA:KD9 / PHONE:KD9 / CSC:KD9 (XEO)
:/ I bought phone before 2 days wtf is that ?
I have the same no update possible - its stock untouched.
My details are: PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KD5 / CSC:KD3 (DRE)
May be its because they pulled all updates until the new one is out (hope so)?
Hello guys
PauloJ5 can you send me your KE1/KD5/kd3 firmware?? pls
That's a problem™ of Kies. Change the Product Code to a valid one (see your box for that) from all X in Registry Editor. It worked for me.
Regards.

You can update to official ics even without kies . Download the official rom and flash via Odin. It would save you time

Thanks for the link but I've used CheckFusDownloader to get the firmware. But still not recognized.
English translation from the guy that cannot write according to the forum rules and must be year one at skool .
Your Product Code is under the battery .
Its worth repeating methods of updating .
One official via Kies when an update is available only .Providing your phone presents the correct hidswver codes to match a firmware on the Kies server .
Two join XDA Developers forum and download stock firmware as soon as its released .
As oft repeated mix and match may not work and its rather pointless choose your path for up grades and stick with that method .Probably more time wasted trying to go back to Kies from stock than any other .

Ok so I don't know where else to ask I need help, for some reason after I updated to the latest ICS, I can no longer tether my phone to my computer via usb, Bluetooth, or wifi as a hotspot. I have tried different computers and devices that use wifi and Bluetooth nothing works. So I thought maybe if I reverted back to the original firmware I could get it to work. That is the where I come to a new problem Kies no longer supports software upgrading to my phone after I used Odin to update to ICS.

Have you updated your phone with official ICS firmware through ODIN? Have you checked the drivers are properly installed? I updated my phone having Saudi Arabia gingerbread firmware with ICS India firmware recently..... after seeing your post I checked the USB tethering, it is working fine......below 2 drivers were installed when I started tethering:
1. Samsung Mobile USB composite device
2. Samsung Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network Device
Also, I had same problem with KIES not recognizing my phone, but it was resolved itself after I did a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache (you need to take backup of your data before you do this, as it will wipe all user data like contacts, messages, applications, photo, video etc).
Please check
Thank you for responding, after I posted I kept searching the internet and found a ICS update from last month for my phone, I wiped my phone and gave it an install and so far it seems to be working, this was the 2nd ICS build I found tonight. I am happy it works.

Woo Hoo!!!!
Your Device's current firmware version is not supported to update FW via KIES..
Hi.. I'm using a galaxy S2 I9100..
My current FW version as shown while connecting to PC via KIES:
PDA: LPT
PHONE: LQ6
CSC: LPA(XEH)
But while checking directly on phone using the code *#1234# everything is appearing as same except the CSC.. Using this code in the phone, my phone is showing the CSC as I9100 XEU LPA.. Means my phone's CSC are not coming same on both.. So, is it the reason that my phone's current FW is not supported to update FW via kies??
If it's so.. Then, how to resolve this problem??

1.yes there is look here:http://www.mod2xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=11661
2.refer to 1
3.i do not know how to explain this one because i use odin for flashing.
4.open wifi then go to about phone then click software update if there is a latest version available then download and install.
5.to know if you are rooted there should be an app superuser home screen.
6.no its your choice but with rooting you can get cool features here is advantages and disadventages of rooting link:http://droidlessons.com/what-is-rooting-on-android-the-advantages-and-disadvantages/
7.not sure if this will help but refer here:http://www.androidcentral.com/android-z-what-kernel
8.dead phone means you cant turn it on again and it wont do anything, the only way to repair it is send it to the company.to avoid it dont install firmware from other models before flashing make sure its for i9100G and dont use apps like rom manager.
9.never used kies before so i cant help on this.
10.the alternate program for flashing is odin.just put your ophone on download mode then open odin select pda browse for your firmware then start.
hope i answered your question.

First of all, we're not geeks; we're technical enthusiasts!
Second of all, as JJe said correctly, the button was probably removed by the carrier, you are at.
Third of all, you can always download frimware from here incase you don't have the OTA button
*OTA = Over the Air

I very much doubt your phone is broken/defect or what ever, I'd say go to sammobile.com/firmware and download the latest firmware you can find
Or, if you never have, try flashing a custom ROM, they're definitly worth a try! We've got some developers here, that should be prominent!

I am guessing you are with orange. Or maybe t-mobile as they are both one now. Your phone is not faulty and it is your service provider (orange/ t-mobile) who have disabled the updates option. I am in the same situation. You can either ring your service provider to give you an unbranded phone or flash the rom as suggested.
yeah, just flash some unbranded ROM available for you phone, I did exacly this and now I am FREE of carriers logos and other stuff, they should't control our lives, dam operators..

It doesn't really matter what ROM you use. The only difference is, is that you then have all the carrier crap on your phone. If you can, find the latest version for Europe/No carrier and flash that.
I mean, I live in Germany and I flash the European ones alll the time on other phones, because their fed up of all that bloatware on their phones.
But, I'd suggest trying out some custom ROMs. Personally, I'm using CarHD ROM v6 for my Galaxy S 4 (I9505), it use TWiz, but it's themed. Looks real awesome, though.
On my GS III, I at first had stock Telekom Germany, then I flashed Android Revolution HD - Wasn't happy with it at all after a week of use, constant lag and battery life was terrible (Please don't use this as an argument not to flash the ROM. The lagginess and battery life is relative, as it differes from user to user, as we all have different habbits of using our phones!), then I had Paranoid Android, CM10 and so on.. The last ROM I had on it was MIUI. I stuck with that until I got my new phone - Which was about half a year.
So, if you want my personal opinion, go check out MIUI, whether you choose the CM-based version or the official download from http://miuiandroid.com - It's your choice. In all the time I was using that ROM, using it rather heavily, my battery lasted just over a day and I never had any form of lag, whether it be in games like Hill Climb Racing or graphics-intense games like Asphalt 6. They all worked perfectly fine.
