So the last couple of days I've been trying to cycle my battery to see if I can get some more use out of it and I have noticed a strange problem. When I drain the battery completely it will automatically turn off but when I plug the charger in and turn the phone back on it will show that it have anywhere from 20-30% usable battery life remaining. Any ideas what is going on?
Let it die after it says 30%.
unplug charger and let it die.
DIE DIE DIE!!!!
Then you can wipe battery stats.

^^After it dies, turn it back on and let it die again... and again... and again until it won't do ANYTHING. Then you can recondition it.

how do you wipe the battery stats if you're stock? I know theres the option in clockworkmod, but i dont have that on my vibrant at the moment.
Are you rooted? Just download rom manager and use the flash cwm option. Afterwards, boot to stock recovery and select reinstall packages to get into cwm.

i am (check the sig) but you need a modified 3e recovery in order for cwm to stick if you're on official KA6 and I'm being a chicken right now (the phone is working great for the first time in a while, minus the battery life and im not ready to mess anything up)
JUST ROOT IT! Its the best you can do with an android phone trust me just downgrade it back to 2.1 with odin and root from there. There's almost no way you could brick your phone. But its okay if you don't because I was chicken until this 2.2 upgrade came and I've already bricked once but fixed it with odin. But trust me once you root you'll never regret that's how I felt about my mytouch 3g 1.2, cliq, mytouch slide, and vibrant.

One of the functions of the battery stats file is to help the phone decide when your battery is nearly dead. This lets the phone perform a clean shutdown instead of just losing power and dying.
If I were you, I'd charge the phone fully, wipe the battery stats file, use it normally without charging until it ran down completely to power-off, then recharge it -- and maybe let it run down completely one more time at least.
It could be that something about your usage patterns makes the phone "expect" the battery to die sooner than it really does, or maybe the 20% reading upon power-up is incorrect and the phone actually runs out of juice faster than the phone expects.
Either way, resetting your battery stats is probably the best fix.
Hi all!
I recently flashed Trigger + Overstock. The problem is related to battery drain. I am trying to re-condition the battery/wipe battery stats...However, My battery will not charge to 100%. It stays at 99%. I assume this isn't normal. Wondering if anyone else has come across this before?
Any ideas? Or can someone point me in the correct direction to fixing this?
Thanks!
My devices usually stay at 97% no matter how long I charge it.. Sidekick 2008, iPod Touch, Vibrant, even my computer.
I'm not sure why.
Yeah...it's just weird. I mean it used to charge all the way up to 100% and even notify me that it was completely charged before I flashed it.
By no means am I complaining about it. I just was wondering if that was normal after a flash. Also, more importantly will re-conditioning of the battery still have the same effect even though it's not at 100%? That's my real concern to get good battery life without going back to stock.
Thanks!
I had the same issue for awhile and honestly it seemed to more or less resolve itself after a few charges. I don't know if that was just my experience of the ROM updating the battery stats.
Have you fully charged the battery and wiped the battery stats? Even after doing so, it may take a few charges for the ROM to fully recognize the proper battery levels.

Yeah, I fully charged it...well to 99%. Then wiped battery stats. Hopefully like you said it will correct itself after a few charges.
In regards to wiping the battery stats, did you use root explorer and delete the batterystats.bin file in the system folder or did you try to wipe the via the CW Recovery menu? I personally never had much luck doing it through the menu.
Hey all, I did a quick search but didn't find an obvious answer. I've tried quite a few GB Roma on my Thunderbolt and I know it's good to periodically reset battery data through ClockworkMod. I'm looking for a specific order of operations. The following is how I've been doing it. Charge fully, reboot into recovery. Unplug phone. Clear battery info. Shut down phone and plug in until fully charged. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Just download battery calibration from the market. Once your phone is fully charged, wipe battery stats in the application and then unplug your phone and let it die. Then charge your baby back up.
I believe that application won't let you wipe the battery stats until it's fully charged.

Battery Calibration app is the easiest way for clearing battery stats. I notice after after two days I see huge improvement in battery life. Remember after that first full charge and clearing the stats make sure you let your phone die.

... Doesn't batterstats get wiped after a new rom flash anyway

Hi Guys,
I know there's been a few threads on this, but a lot of them don't really answer what I'm about to ask.
I've noticed lately that my battery has been losing about 10% in the first half an hour, then goes down quite slowly which makes me think I need to wipe the battery stats. However a lot of people keep saying 'wipe battery stats' then fully drain, which seems like a ridiculous idea knowing what we know about how badly batteries react to full discharges (on a bad day you can actually knacker the battery), so what I'm asking is can I just wipe the battery stats at 100% without discharging. The user manual never said about fully discharging my phone when I first got it so why would I need to do it now? Also, this concept of bump charging, how would I do it on a Galaxy I9000
Thanks very much!
Breaking you battery through a full discharge? Never heard of that.

again though, a full discharge, is that wise?
You need to calibrate your battery. There is an app in the market..just search "battery calibration". Charge your phone to 100% then use the app to wipe the stats. Let your phone discharge. Full discharge is not necessary. Discharge to 1% then charge it back up to 100%. Good to go. If you don't want to use the app, you can wipe your battery stats in recovery which accomplishes the same thing.
When you drain your battery, your phone will not just stop working at some point, it will shut down your phone in an orderly fashion before you battery is fully depleted.
When I drain my battery and my phone shuts down because of it, I can still switch it on again and it will work for a minute or so after it has fully started before it will switch off again.
Could I not just wipe the stats and not fully discharge? Or does that achieve nothing. I'm pretty certain it's these battery stats. Today, it went down to 84% in seconds. I've noticed if I plug it in, it charges full, unplug, then plug in again, it starts at about 91% and does the rest. Sound like a battery stats issue?

When you charge, you phone says "charged" as soon as it hits 90%. Check the about-menu in settings (or in my case at least, the lock screen while plugged in) to see at what percentage you really are when your phone says it's charged.

Oh right I didn't realize that. I'll try it. I've just unplugged it and it immediately said 98% so I plugged back in. This time when I pull, I'm going to wipe the battery stats. I don't really want to discharge fully, because even at 1% it's not great for it. If anyone can state categorically that I shouldn't, tell me now please haha
I am using CM7.1 Weekly #4 and i am unable to charge it to full 100%. the best i can get is 95% and it says battery full on lock screen. i don't know how battery percentage works in CM7, battery life is awesome so can any one help me how to get back to 100% charging like stock rom.
If you just flashed the rom then it could take a couple charge cycles for it to work itself out. Another "trick" I've read about is to:
1. Turn off the phone and take the battery out
2. Plug it in while the battery is still out and still turned off
3. Wait for it to display the "battery logo", it should have a question mark in it
4. Put the battery back in, still leaving it turned off, and wait for it to recognize the battery
5. At this point it might only show like 5% or 10% charge, don't worry about that, just let it sit on the charger for about 30 minutes to an hour while leaving it still turned off
6. After waiting, turn it on while plugged in and wait for it to boot and then unplug
From my understanding, this is a method to "bump charge" it.
Also, try using search next time instead of starting a new thread.
