So, my phone is very crapped out. I rooted it and started to flash roms and kernels like crazy. Now, is very slow, it overheats and battery drains really fast. Id like to go back, to have my phone like new.
I already tried to do this with my tablet, but i got some serious troubles. So, can someone help me, step by step, how to get stock rom/kernel and all that stuff? With all samsuns' things working properly, like OTA updates and stuff. Any info needed just ask!
Sorry for bad english :S Thanks!

get ODIN, install drivers on pc (install kies), go to sammobile website (google it) and download the firmware for your phone/carrier/country
enter in recovery mode, wipe data, format system, preload and emmc (will format your internal sdcard)
enter in download mode, endt all task linked to kies programs, plug your phone to the pc
open ODIN, u should see a yellow box saying COM: some number (number of your usb port), if so your good to go
click PDA and select the donwload file (dont forget to unzip it until you get a TAR file), click START
wait and if there isnt any error in the process your phone should reboot to stock, if its stuck jsut enter in recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset and it will boot
Hope this helped, any question ask and for download links too

This is slightly off topic, but I desperately need help.
I put ICS on my Dads Samsung Galaxy a few days ago, and left him to it after that. He decided he didn't like it and without asking me about it, decided to restore it back to GB through CWM recovery. He's now stuck on the boot screen every time he starts his phone.
I'd really appreciate some help here guys.
Thanks in advance.

Wipe data/cache from the recovery menu and then try a restore.
if doesnt work probably there are some corrupt files in the backup so wipe and then flash the rom you(your dad ) want.

Also, the reason for him wishing to restore was something to do with the fact his phone calls weren't working. He said he posted on here through this account and got no reply so decided to try and restore it.

OP, I thought you said your dad's phone is a Galaxy S, not an S2? Well this is a link to S2 firmwares.
Edit: went back and read... Yup, you said he is stuck on the i9000 screen. You are better off asking for i9000 help in the i9000 forums...else people will assume you are talking about an i9100, and tell you to do things for the i9100, like above.

First off, the pit file only needs to be flashed when you screw up you partions, if you can boot up your phone, then they perfectly ok.
To downgrade from ICS to GB.
1.. Download from Samfirmware.com, your providers last GB firmware before ICS.
2.. Unzip the firmware once to the .tar.md5
3.. Backup your files from your internal sdcard that you want to keep to your PC/laptop, ie photos, docs etc.
4.. Make a nandroid backup.
5.. Remove your external scdard.
6.. Enter recovery. Data/factory reset. advanced, wipe dalvik cache
7.. Mounts & storage. format system. Format Data. Format sdcard.
8.. Turn off phone and remove battery.
9.. Re-inset battery and enter download mode.
10.. Connect phone to PC using original USB cable.
11.. Start Odin as administrator and wait for yellow confirmation box.
12.. Load GB firmware into PDA and press start.
13.. Once GB firmware has rebooted fully, go to dial pad and dial *2767*3588#
14.. Phone will factory reset and then re-boot into GB.
15. .Remember your phone will not be rooted at this time.
hi all,
i was trying to root my phone (samsung i717 with ICS leaked version).
I downloaded the usb drivers,
Got the phone into download mode,
Connected phone to PC with usb
phone was recognised and i was able to see the SAMSUNG USB Device in device manager
opened ODIN, selected the pda.tar file and clicked on start..
Everything was going fine i got all the success messages in ODIN, then my phone rebooted and then stuck on the SAMSUNG screen.
on my PC i see USB drivers trying to be installed and fails.. i dont understand where to go from here.. i tried several time, but keep getting stuck at this point
Please please let me know how i can get my phone back.. i am a newbie.. would really appreciate a link or something that has step by step instructions so i dont mess it up further..
Thanks all..

hi, thanks for your responses.
but as i said i am new to all this, and although i have a basic idea about what you are asking me to do, i would really really appreciate it if some one can send me a link or step by step instruction on what i have to do..
i am very familliar with getting my phone in download mode. And also have odin on my PC.. but i am guessing i have to use a different Tar file to flash stock (right?)
if my above guess is right, i think i will be stuck with the same issue where i select the tar file and click on "start'" in odin and everthing goes well until the phone is rebooted and after that for some reason my PC cant find the usb drives and doesnot recognise my phone..
sorry if i am asking silly questions,. but this is my first android phone (smart phone actually..) and my first attempt at upgrade / rooting
hi,
MY PHONE IS BACK!!!
i followed all the instruction to the T in the following link:

Thanks all for your time and suggestions..
Now that i have lost all my data i guess i can do some more "testing"
Congratulations and happy testing!!!
thanks..
i flashed stock rom, then rooted it (this time i was sucessful)
then installed CWM touch, made a backup,
Installed titanium backup, made backup again..
next step is to install the "OnlyOne HYFR B4" rom
Then to try and reset the flash counter
hope i am sucessful at this..
any other ROM recomendations?
glad to see you got it working..happy flashing homey!!!
Sounds like you didn't wait until your system files and dalvik cache was built b4 you jumped the fun and freaked out. Next time realize that after a ROM flash it could take up to 10 minutes to build the system and all you'll see is the pulsating Samsung logo.

Hello guys!
My problem is that I wanted to root my freind's I9100, but something went totally wrong...
Now my problem is that the bootloader doesn't seem to work... I hold the power button, the screen lights up, nothing happens for 1-2 minutes, it crashes and it all begins again.
The only thing that is working (I think) is the Download mode...
I tried to flash VillainROM v1.1 (I read that it would solve the problem somewhere), but it didn't work...
Also with that ROM I can get to the recovery, but unfortunately it can't find the storage (Of course I have a backup on there...)
I'm really worried right now, because it's not mine...

I don't think that this makes a difference, root basically is just some modified system files, isn't it?
and with a new rom the old system partition gets wiped completely

No it cant be. If you can power on your device its not super bricked..If it was super bricked your phone would be just a piece of plastic that gets heat up near the camera area. you should have just flashed a safe kernel like siyah using odin. Its perfectly safe. you must have ticked the repartition on Odin
Your data partition is corrupted. And only flashing a .pit file would save your phone. If it doesnt, i think samsung is the only way...

One bump per day after 24 hours, amigo.
Anyway, you are either not following directions or have bad directions. As the phone reboots from Odin you are to pull the battery out.

After Odin flash while phone reboots you have to pull the battery or you just go back to stock recovery.

I've never pulled battery and haven't ever had issues installing recoveries through Odin. But it wouldn't hurt trying. Out of curiosity, what exactly does it say at the top when you boot into recovery?
Edit: just remembered that if you upgraded to ICS through via OTA, the system reverts back to stock recovery due to code that is imbedded in the ota version of the update. But this code does not exist in the update provided through Kies (what i used). This explains my not needing to do a battery pull during reboot.

Do you think I'm asking him to pull the battery for giggles? Watch and learn, grasshopper.

As I stated "I just remembered". Confirming your post. So nothing new learned for me lol. It's why I explained why a battery pull may be necessary IF the update was through OTA. If he went through kies, its due to some other reasons. Always best not to make assumptions that's why I asked the questions I did.
Hope y'all have a great Christmas!

Wait until all the new phones get opened today. The forum will be filled with fifty threads like this or the brick threads from wrong Roms!

On the top it says "android system recovery" with no options to flash files or do a backup or anything, which means its the stock one.
