Hi All
I will be flashing my first rom for my Note 2. I've used titanium for restore on my Droid X and Bionic and found it to be mostly reliable with a few hiccups during some restores. Does anyone prefer Carbon for backing up and restoring after rom flashing and if so then why?
Thanks in advance
Al
I use carbon for the app and titanium for the data. Because when you use titanium to install the app you have to do it manually which annoys me, in carbon you dont. But for some reason Carbon doesn't restores all my data so i use titanium there.

I've used titanium for years. If you get the paid version it installs all of the apps and data with one button, totally worth it. Never had a single issue from mytouch 4g, g2x, sensation or gs3.

I also use titanium. Get the paid version and it install everything with a touch of a button. I also use titanium to backup and sync my games from tablet to phone. Its mainly up to you.

Like others have stated, it is kind of personal preference. Although titanium does have a seemingly more comprehensive/complete backup system that includes all of the apps and data, I have started to use carbon lately just to give it a go and see how capable it truly is because in the past I have had some issues with titanium at times. Definitely not saying titanium is bad at all, just would like to find another alternative to ti backup and so far carbon has performed well. I like the simplicity and straight forward interface that carbon uses along with the backup to g-drive n dropbox. Of course titanium does have basically the same options as well and more to choose from, so I guess the safe choice is titanium. It's been used by many for a while and is recommended by many. I say give them both a try and see which you prefer. Just my opinion....**BTW, I would give GoBackups a try as well, like the other member stated, I tried it out a couple times and it was actually pretty good overall. Also I just came across G Cloud app that has a possibly promising interface/functions as well, so check em all out and choose for yourself is my advice.**

Do Carbon or GoBackup have the option to disable (freeze) apps like Titanium Backup?
I used Titanium Pro for a bit back when I had my Droid (the original) and wasn't a huge fan.
I switched to Ultimate Backup Pro (made by JRummy) and it's exactly what I was looking for. A recent update changed the whole UI, but after getting used to it I really like it. I know it isn't quite as mainstream as Ti, but it has proven every bit as reliable and capable. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a backup program who isn't satisfied with their current backup app.

Can someone help me?
My wife and I both have X10's.
I'm running a custom rom and she is running the stock 2.2 (I believe it's 2.2, could be 2.1).
I tried to install an app on her phone and it said that she was out of space! She doesn't have a lot of apps on the phone, nor does she have a lot of junk on it....she has about 4 games, and not a lot else.
I rooted it and took off a few of the dumb things like Moxier mail and such but I couldn't see any way to see how much space she had and I can't figure out why she'd be out of space and I've downloaded a LOT more stuff than she has and I haven't gotten any warning....
Your wife is using stock 2.1 not 2.2 since its not out officially. There are lot of apps that can be removed from stock which i remember listed on a sticky thread (in app section u think) if you don't know what you are doing then id strongly suggest your wife to use erics Rom for 2.1

If you don't mind me asking, which app were you trying to install?
I tried installing plants vs zombies and peggle but both said my phone didn't have enough space. I easily had enough space for the install... It's possible it might be referring to amount of available ram.

Yes I also had that on 2.1. When I got enough space some apps still won't install because it thinks there is not enough space. After you've removed a lot of apps (that will free up memory) it gets installed. You could try installing with Flashtool the .apk, I think that that will work.

You've to cross the permissions like this:

just tell your wife to get rid of the justin bieber fart soundboards because they take up a lot of space.

First thing:
Install Titanium backup *** root version from market.
Once you load it, it says how much space is left in every place of the phone.
4 games on a stock Froyo is quite a lot actually, rsrsrs, the stock rom is very BIG.
normal games may have 20MB or much more sometimes(like angry birds).
Yet the best would be to put a stable Froyo custom rom or eclair.
Womans(mine at least) doesn't want to much of the phone, just want it working, rsrsrs, so that would be enough for her.
She may have some app that is bloating the system space, google earth, some gps maybe?
Well,
I tried to take an Xrecovery back up of my phone and restore her phone....all went perfectly....except that her phone had my information on it such as the google account.
I put her google account info in and it wouldn't let me delete mine out of her phone.... so I was stuck.
So then I tried to do a factory restore and things went bad...no signal apn info....no keyboard....it was horrible.
I messed around and messed around and restored her phone to a MIUI rom that she previously had, but then I couldn't make calls...no apn information!
I tried to import apn information to her phone via an APN back up/restore but it didn't work....
So then I finally, I just put the stock rom on her phone this morning so she could get to work and I could start again tonight.....
arggggg....
Edit, as of October 3, I'd suggest holding off on the 3.1.6 Market update. Could be fishy. It's signed differently than Google does. Mine below are fine.
EDIT: The new market is cool and all, but I have noticed that if I have multiple google accounts, it switches back and forth... which is REALLY annoying. If you notice issues, go to menu > accounts and make sure your primary is selected. Other than this, it is great.
EDIT 2: there is now a 3.1.5 - the bug mentioned above still exists
DOWNLOAD LINK FOR 3.1.5
If you had 3.1.3, it may just auto-update for you.
---------- below is older information for 3.1.3 --------------
You can thank @MastaTM (XDA: Official_Master) for the new Market (3.1.3)
http://www.multiupload.com/41FQ6PQ3MS
The below is litterally pasted from androidpolice (again, they are on point). I bolded what is new.
Wow, Google is on a roll with the Android Market lately. Since the release of Market v3.0, a number of small updates have come to the Android Market recently, but this is by far the biggest yet. Google has added the long-awaited +1 functionality to the Android Market (which has been on the web version of the Market for quite some time), along with a few other goodies.
There's a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately).
There are also 2 brand-new Market icons to spruce things up a bit (within the Market itself - unfortunately, the app drawer icon is still the same).
For convenience's sake, the size in megabytes of each app, along with its latest update date, have been moved from the bottom of descriptions to the top of individual app pages, which is a very useful change in our book.
Moving on to the thumbnail navigator, Google added a long-overdue sliding transition - a nice touch that makes the Market feel more polished.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use an optional custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have - and really, it makes a lot of sense.
You'll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.

Installing Android Market APK
Could use a little help here. Put a new ROM on my wife's phone, but for some reason, it doesn't have the Market on it. Every time I download the APK for the Market though, it asks me if I want to assign an account to it, which I choose Yes, and then it closes. Someone in the General apps forum uploaded what they claim is version 3.1.6. I pushed it into system/app and over wrote vending.apk but I still have version 3.1.5. Others are reporting success, though. Saying it looks a little more polished.

I had a Galaxy Nexus from the time it launched until about a month ago. I switched to the RAZR Maxx and love the phone, but couldn't wait for ICS. Having gotten it today I have to say I'm once again super happy with my device!
Only downside? No Disable button on many of the Verizon/Motorola apps. One of the things I love most about ICS has been disabled by Verizon I wonder if it would be possible to re-enable the option, or would it just be better to use Titanium to backup/freeze? Really sad.
Anyone else really disliking this?
I know it's not a solution but can you hide the app in the app drawer. I too just got the maxx yesterday after straight trading my gnex for it.

If you use Titanium Backup to convert the apps to user applications from the menu by long pressing the app, then you should have control over them again.

Then I guess it's a good thing I never said that "None" of the apps have a disabled button, eh?
Currently I count 12 applications that I want to disable. Most for battery life, but some purely because they get in the way (I'd like to reduce the number of buttons in places and keep certain things from running in the background and consuming resources).
I guess, for now, the only option is Titanium Backup until someone finds a way of enabling the button on all apps.

I have been able to disable any app I wanted. If it won't let you once you drag it to "app info" because "disable" doesn't pop up in the box, then uninstall updates for the app and then disable. This worked for all the apps I couldn't directly disable.
If you go to the app info, You should see "Force close" and "disable".
If it isn't there, then maybe wait for a newer version of ICS. Trust me, it is still there
Just want to know, what are the features that you love on ics but disabled in Verizon razr ics??

What's the problem w backup assistant? Just don't log into it. It won't use resources. How much more battery would it really give you. I have tried everything from full aokp to all the leaks and there isn't really a difference at all. Disable what you can. Don't log into what you can't. Use your phone and be happy.

I'd like to disable Backup Assistant too because even if you've never logged into it, it is always running in the background.
I can understand that but I think y'all are going a little overboard thinking you are going to notice a large difference. These are my attatched screen shots of running services for today and battery affected by them. Ba+ uses 3mb and doesn't even show up in battery usage as a real drain at all. Seems like your splitting hairs. If 3mb ram is really that important just use the 1 click root and freeze all with titanium.
I'm not talking **** so please dont misunderstand, it just seems like a lot of effort. Leave it alone and not logging into it won't hurt. I get 5-6 hours of screen on time on 4g. Solid benchmark scores. Great running phone and ba+ isn't even a concern.

I've been in the Android modding scene for years...I know what I'm talking about.

Then you should know how to freeze or uninstall bloat through Titanium Backup. I usually backup and freeze the bloat I don't want, then after testing I will delete said bloat with the ability to restore for upgrade if need be.

What's the problem w backup assistant? Just don't log into it. It won't use resources. How much more battery would it really give you. I have tried everything from full aokp to all the leaks and there isn't really a difference at all. Disable what you can. Don't log into what you can't. Use your phone and be happy.

Who said there's a problem with it? I want to disable it...why does it matter my reasoning? The truth is, I just like running a clean ship. I like keeping minimal applications open and minimal processes running. It's not because I want to save a lot of battery or CPU, it's just that I want it to be easier to manage directly. I'm not sure why people are trying to dissuade this type of thinking...this forum exists for people that want to customize their devices.

Ahh, you must not have read any of the posts on this topic (including the first one). I know exactly how to do it using Titanium (both by doing it through the app or switching them to User Apps and doing it through the system), but I was looking for an alternative way to do it natively. I'd rather do it natively because I like the easier management available through Android. A higher level of reading comprehension would have saved you the trouble of posting.
As for the "What apps do you want to remove?" question, here's a short list:
Apps (the verizon app)
Backup Assistant+ (all 5 of them)
Device Setup
DLNA
Downloads
Emergency Alerts
Face Unlock
Flickr Authenticator
Guided Tours
In Case of Emergency
Kaixin001 Authenticator
LastFM Authenticator
Mobile Hotspot
Motion Detector
MotoCast ID
Motorola Dock Service (and the helper service along with it)
My Files
My Gallery
My MotoCast
My Music
Orkut Authenticator
Photobucket Authenticator
Quickoffice
Smart Actions
Smart Actions FW
Social Location
Social Sharing
Vehicle Mode
Verizon Remote Diagnostics
Video Calling
Webtop
So, as you can see, it's more than 1 or 2 apps that I want to remove. None of them make a real impact on my battery life or CPU usage, but together they would free up a bit of both and make the phone just run cleaner (which I like). I've always done it through Titanium, but with my Nexus I was happy to be able to do *ANY* of it through the Android apps dialog. Verizon sticking their grubby fingers in there and removing that ability is an annoyance to me.
If you like me, you have a rooted Galaxy Mega, and just want less bloatware, better battery, and extra 100-200MB of free RAM, want to keep your stock ROM and not deal with instaling a custom one, those are 120 elements you can safely freeze with Titanium Backup if you dont use any of them offcourse, and be sure your phone will work just fine but snappier... when i restart my Mega, and clear the RAM after everything loads, my used RAM is 320MB/1.32GB

ya, just freeze, dont delete, is diferend, you can freeze all that and then delete titanium backup, itll stay frozen unless you install TB back and unfreeze it. try it, guarantee it wont brick your phone. been doin it with all my phones, check my profile see how many of those guides i made thru the years with all my diferend phones lol
Thanks!!! It seems much faster.

is the same thing, but half of those things arent allowed to be turned off from the apo manager..
If you are rooted, buy Titanium Backup if you havent already, the best purchase you can make if u own android phones, as before you freese/delete anything, you can simply back the ROM up, and if something isnt working just restore.
also as i found out, when i was on T-Mobile bloated ROM, some of T-Mo branded bloatware was turning back on by itself on phone restart after turning it off from the app manager...
a lot of those elwments are safe to DELETE with TB... ATT or T-Mo software and Samsung bloatware are some of those...
rest i recomend just leave frozen..
lmk if u guys need any other info.. i have been into the extreme with some of my ROMs i had one debloated was running perfectly normal with what i need only on 32 elements haha, i think is one of the Threats i made named "Extreme Bloatware Remowal" if u look at my profile..

I deleted a handful, rhapsody, tmo junk and things like trip visor (or whatever it's called). The rest I froze... One day I will back up how it is and try deleting things bit by bit.
I did not freeze a few things you posted because I actually need them. For ex : text to speech, resource manager and tags, to name handful.
I am sure the email client uses a ton but I have not seen anything that is as good, shame. k9 is ok but needs constant sync.
I also froze a few things you did not.
Thanks for the guide.

Aye.. first and foremost, you gota make sure you only freese what you WONT use offcourse... i dont use any fints lets say, i freese em all, dont want em to load on device startup and take RAM.. same with Wallpapers or Widgets.. i dont use any, i freeze em all...
And about the bricking.. i gue the phone needs some of the elements to be present on restart to boot... even it the are frozen/turned off is diferend that just been deleted...
Not every Android phone is like that tho, i had phone i delete everything just leave 35 elements and is working fine... not the Mega i guess..
Amazing.. Really good looking. But i want to know how it's possible to safely freeze with 120 elements Titanium Backup..
Been searching the threads and wanted to know what is safe to freeze/remove? I imagine the list for the TMO G4 would be the same for this this device?

Experimentation is key.
So far for me I've frozen anything listed as t-mobile with the filter option. I've frozen (deleting caused problem) all the Instagram Facebook (messenger too) handlers. Froze App Source I deleted the LG voicecare (only cause when I ran LG update I stupidly checked all of them) since I know I could without drama. My best suggestion is freeze first. Run phone for a bit and see if you get any errors on the screen.
This is everything that I have frozen. No issues so far. I have Nova installed as a system app, that way I can freeze the LG launcher.

With all the items you froze, do you still see the app showing usage in the battery stats? I have had devices that this occurred.

To be honest I haven't really looked at it. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get Better Battery Stats to work right. I've been having good battery life so it hasn't really been on my mind (average of 4-5 hours SOT).

Yes, but you also need the pro version of the app to freeze apps.
okay, but...
If i were to delete these apps, instead of freezing, would it blow my phone into oblivion?

You can delete all the Google and all the T-Mobile apps. Also delete AdaptClient and LTDDM, as those are behavior-tracking spyware apps.
You can delete LGPartnerBookmarksProvider which is a carrier customization package for Chrome.
Don't delete any LG apps as they're all tied into the system one way or another.
When I was making my ROM, I found that deleting LG apps would often result in FCs in random settings screens or other LG apps.

Some apps will, some won't, just make a backup before you start, that way if you break something, you can restore...
Zdeuce2 now with golden rays of sunshine
I was hoping for a script like I used on my galaxy note 4... just hook to pc and run .bat file that someone had created.. lol Oh well.. Any updates??

Where did you find good instructions to root the V10? I'm finding all kinds of conflicted posts.
freezing/deleting bloat
Hey, I'm curious how you managed to delete Google apps without ill effect. I shut off the Google suite and my phone went nuts. Particularly bothersome was the loss of voice to text and spell checker when writing text messages (with Textra). The Google keyboard and ( I don't know why there are so many voice related apps)the voice recorder and the other audible vocal apps I had to turn back on. Do you have a trick that made it possible to disable chrome without headaches?

I imagine (and I mean this as much as a question as I do a comment) that after removing apps that serve a purpose such as Google keyboard, you could restore functionality by installing a replacement app of your choosing...? At least it seems to make sense in theory.. Plz correct me if I'm mistaken ... This is the 1st device I'm debloating myself manually so no experience to back my assumption... But I would like a more seasoned opinion on the matter... Thx
