[Q] Help restoring back to factory settings - HTC Droid DNA

I picked up a DNA off of Craigslist but I think the bootloader is unlocked and perhaps a Kernel is flashed to it or something. I dont know much about this, so I thought Id ask the experts. I just wanna get it back to factory settings....I think the kernel is cubeddna or something like that. Any help is appreciated. Thx

Hey are you new to android? Flashing roms? If you are, I won't bore you with technical details. SettingsĀ»backup and reset. Done.

If the phone has been flashed restoring it through what was listed above won't do anything. You would need to ruu back to stock and to be factory settings. If nothing was flashed doing what was mentioned above should work fine.

lots of variables here I mean is the phone unlocked, has it taken the OTA, does it have a custom recovery? Since we have no way of knowing this my suggestion would be to try downloading the attached and run it.. it is a fairly large file and will probably need it in the end anyway. Go to "Settings/about/software information" whats the software version?
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390188424645836809

Well, its says CODISv1.0.0.....so does that mean its rooted already? Isn't that a custom ROM? Thx

[Q] Someone please help me. I'm lost.

Ok, so I've tried to do my own research and have come up with very little. It took me about a year to figure out what rooting actually meant and did. So I rooted my SGS vibrant and flashed a bionix rom (i think). It says "bionix shut down sequence initiated" or something like that when I turn it off (any ideas on what it is or how I can find out). I really have no idea what version it is. I also would like to put a new rom on my phone but am scared ill screw it up. I watched a youtube video that told me how to do it the first time I flashed anything. It works with a few random screw ups but KILLS my battery. I would really like for someone who knows more than me to explain what a nandroid backup is and how to do one. What the clockwork rom manager can help me do. What the one click lag fix did. Why my computer won't read the storage things on the phone when connected to the phone anymore. What is this odin thing. What is a kernel. will I still get the ota updates without the stock rom. Where did my stock rom go when I pushed backup before I flashed this rom in the rom manager app. Did I actually wipe all the original data from the phone. Why can't I restore boot animation with one click lag fix(it says somethings not found... Did I wipe/delete it?). What is an apk and sdk(or skd)? What is a voodoo lag fix. How many times can you flash beer something goes wrong. I'm really new to ALL of this and have had no help really when I've asked a lot of people who apparently know more than I. ANY help from ANYONE who knows ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Almost all of those questions can be answered by reading the Tips and Tricks or Noob Guide threads. Those two threads have given me all the info I've ever needed for the Vibrant.

Theres a lot of questions in there so I'll just bite off a few at first. Before that, have you taken a look at the vibrant bible thread in the dev forum? It covers a lot of the basic ' how tos '.
Firstly, you can possibly see what version of bionix you are running by looking under settings - about phone - build number. now might be a good time for you to odin back to stock and start fresh. Odin is a program that runs on your pc and can safely install a rom on top of any lag fix you may have enabled. You can read about using odin to go back to stock in the vibrant bible thread I mentioned earlier. Once you go back to stock you can receive ota updates from tmo if that's what you want or you can reroot and flash another custom rom. If you choose to flash another rom I would recommend reading every post on that rom's thread so you can learn from other's experiences. I would also recommend you keep reading the bible thread, theres a ton of good info there.
Good luck.

Dude, THAT is why I do those stickies, thank you! So glad it helped man!
That was really helpful, thank you and I will be looking into this more little by little. But I also have 2 very specific questions:
1. Is it possible to turn an htc windows phone into an android phone?
2. will I lose everything if I push the flash clockwork recovery in the rom manager app? I haven't done it yet but everything I've read has told me to do it the first time. I have the bionix rom running and don't remember flashing the clockwork recovery thing EVER. have I messed up or can I just do it whenever? And is it true thats how you make a nandroid backup because thats what I've read.
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out, and being patient with me. You guys are the reason I love android. Thank you from your very lost, slowly learning, new friend.

Depends on the phone, many do have android roms available. Just look up whatever windows phone you have in the forum section and if there has been some android development there will most likely be a section in the thread devoted just to android development.
You need to odin back and start from new

Can't update stock rom, "Communication Failed" from Software Update

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who is having this problem but I've searched around and can't fix the issue. I recently had CM9 but went back to complete stock, on 2.3.4 (which isn't up to date). When I go to update from the settings menu, I get a communication failed text box, which then in turn makes me wait 24 hours before checking again.
I've done multiple battery pulls and stopped the running process for the software update to no avail. Can anyone help me with this?
Remember, I'm on the stock AT&T rom.

I think others were having trouble updating as well... I'd suggest flashing a custom rom, or if you want to stay with stock, using Entropy's Back to Stock packages (I'm not going to link that for you cause I'm too lazy and you should be able to find it.)

Might give it a try. Trouble is, not having a rooted phone and going back to stock means I lose all applications and data with them. Eh. Thanks
Download stock rom (if u can get a tar file it most likely has everything u need, do some Googling just make sure its for the i777). Get mobile odin pro. Use mobile odin pro to flash the .tar and it gives u the option to root right there within the app before u flash. Profit. Just giving my two cents and what worked for me . If u do this though and don't remove any system apps it should allow u to ota upgrade. Haven't tried myself but that sounds like it'd work fine.

I already did this except for rooting about 3 weeks ago. From what you're saying, if I root my phone from its current state I should be able to receive OTA updates? I'm willing to root just to see but I don't see how that would fix the "communication failed" errors for updates.

FYI I have a rooted stock ROM, and I'm having difficulty doing an OTA update also. Different error (mine is "interrupted" after reboot). I posted it here because it seemed more related to that thread and I had other Q's about the process.
You guys are in panic mode, wait till we actually get an ANNOUNCEMENT for ICS from AT&T, then try to go back to stock using the methods we have.
No reason to do so right now, since AT&T will probably take a long time before pushing it.
We have a possible sources dropping on March 15th from i9100 but you will be required to be rooted to flash the possible ICS Roms that will be available after that date.

I don't think you understand. First of all, in no way am I in panic mode. Secondly, my phone is a few updates behind since I just recently brought it back to stock from CM7. All I am trying to do is bring it up to date.

You might want to check the (Guide)How to flash custom binaries.....on this forum. Creepycrawly has posted a reply towards the end of the thread that might be helpful. Believe its on one of the last two pages.
As has been said many times in other threads, even on a stock ROM if you have rooted and removed even one item of bloatware or made any other mods you will not be able to download an OTA update.
I have not rooted my phone. And as I said earlier, I restored my phone to complete stock meaning no bloatware has been removed. I'm still at a loss for what to do

You were on CM9 (in a later post you say CM7), but you went back to stock UCKH7. Now you are unable to update over the air to UCKK6. You are mainly interested in having the phone ready to receive the update over the air to ICS, whenever that occurs. You have not rooted the phone since you returned to stock but you are willing to try root if it will help the update happen. You were also concerned about loosing apps and their data since you are not rooted. I recapped all this because on stock you should be able to run the update. To help you solve the problem, need to know all the facts.
I've done the following, although it has been several months ago, about a week or two after UCKK6 first released. From running a custom rom, I did a wipe data/factory reset, flashed stock UCKH7 plus root, and ran the over the air update to UCKK6 successfully, retaining root on UCKK6. I just did this to test it out, so after completing the test, I used my nandroid backup to return to the custom rom I was on.
I would assume that you did a wipe data/factory reset either before or after you flashed back to stock? If not, there could be traces left over that could interfere with the update process. I'm not sure if there could be traces left even after a wipe data/factory reset, but the Cyanogen Mod file structure is so very different than stock that it wouldn't be inconceivable.
Next, I would wonder how soon after flashing back to stock you tried to run the update, and if not immediately, what action could have possibly placed or removed files that would intefere with the process.
I'm pretty certain that if you were to wipe data/factory reset with a format and then flash stock again, and then try to run the update immediately, it would succeed. So there has to be something in the file system preventing it. You may not find it easy to correct that something manually. You may just have to do a wipe data/factory reset, and maybe a format, and then start all over with a fresh install.
Of course, that is the reason for rooting first. Root, then back up everything with titanium backup, SMS backup, export contacts, etc. and save all that to your computer. Then you can restore stuff after.
Thanks creepy,
I'm in the process of doing what you said. I rooted my phone, backed up everything I thought needs to be backed up and flashed the stock rom (2.3.4 kernel version 2.6.35.7 baseband version I777UCKH7). I still need to do a factory format in order to see if that will fix the update problem.
Question. Is the firmware version(s) above the latest AT&T software? According to Kies, it is. But I am reading other places that the latest software is android 2.3.6.
Did exactly as creepy stated. Brought the phone back to stock software and did a factory reset. Without ANY customization and as soon as the phone booted up, I did the software update and had the same thing, "Communication failed" (says there is an update available but servers are busy).
I give up.
Well, I don't have any new ideas. Maybe if I get some time in the next few days I'll try it on my phone to see what happens. It has been a while since I tried it. Maybe the server behaves differently now?

From what I've been reading on AT&T forums (http://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung/Sa...2-3-6-OTA-update-now-live/td-p/2996495/page/3) I don't think so. I've been trying every combination I can think of to make this thing work but I honestly have no idea. I was extremely surprised when I brought the phone back to complete stock and no root and still couldn't get the update.
If ICS ever comes to AT&T GS2, I'll wait a month or so to keep trying then I might resort to going to an AT&T store to get a replacement. Who knows

[Q] Thunderbolt Unlocked & Rooted

I've really looked and looked for a solution to this but haven't found anything yet...
I'm using my Thunderbolt in Mexico with a local carrier (IUSACELL) meaning, somehow it was unlocked.
I say somehow as I just paid for it and really don't know how it was done...
after that I rooted my TB with the All in One method provided by trter10 about a month ago,
now that I'm getting to play around with the phone I want to try a custom ROM for it
but as I understand it I would need to do a data wipe, my question is...
If I do the data wipe will my phone "relock" as in return to Verizon settings???
so if anyone could help, I would really much appreciate it...

When you install a custom ROM for the first time, it will totally erase all the information on the phone, even the OS itself.
Before you do install a custom ROM, I recommend doing a FULL backup of your phone in whatever custom recovery you are using that way you can always come back to what you have now.
Good luck with your new Thunderbolt, it is a good phone.

[Q] UNLOCK screen stuck -- no solutions

Hello.
I have a Motorola Atrix that is not working and I have no clue about the history of the phone. I have no idea how it was messed up, or what was done to the phone.
Currently I see a screen with the M logo on it and the word unlock in the top left corner. I have seen many other people with this phone have had this same issue. I tried doing the common tip of wiping data and cache but nothing worked.
Can anyone help me out here. I dont care what the phone looks like I simply need it to turn on without a hitch and be able to navigate the menus. I could go completely stock and be thrilled. My only problem is that I am a complete beginner and cant figure out what to do or where to find current files. I have done a lot of searching here and a lot of the links seem to be broken, probably because this is an older phone...
Thanks anyone in advance!
PS: Im trying to fix this to turn into ATT for a credit towards a new phone, anyone who helps me solve the problem gets a free meal!

Try flashing the 4.5.141 (2.3.6) SBF file via RSD for a full stock experience. This makes the phone "forget" that its unlocked (the unlock at the top left disappears). If you want to keep it unlocked, flash a fruitcake via CWM.

Here's the post that gives you 4.5.145 (2.3.6). It returns the phone to stock and unlocked, but gets rid of the recovery. You'll need to dig through your system partition to delete the file that forces the stock recovery to show up before flashing a new recovery.
Warning : This may brick your phone . I am not responsible for damaged devices.
OTA IS ONLY FOR AT&T
Here is the OTA update zip
CAUTION!!!!
Some users reported bricks
failed to boot 1

And 38P Radio Rom (pulled from ota)
http://db.tt/AkQHXIc8
I dont prefer to flash ota
And the fruitcake
All credits goes to NYG-SBXLII
THIS IS FOR UNLOCKED DEVICES ONLY
BE SURE TO BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING
DONT FORGET TO WIPE USER DATA
Download here http://www.mediafire.com/?yofp249u4bcc26m
Also, here's another way to do it. Either method will work. The method below tells you where the recovery file i mentioned earlier is in the system partition.
I have made a cwm flashable zip for anyone that would like to test the new build. It includes kerrnel, system and webtop. I have tested this on my device and seems to work fine. However i will not be responsable for any bricked devices. flash at your own risk.
i have rooted this build with an older method so su binarys may need to be updated
also you will need to have a way to reflash your recovery there is a recovery-from-boot.p file in /system that will overwrite recovery with a stock one on every boot. it should be a very easy fix just find the file in /system and delete it reflash whatever recovery you like and the problem should be solved (sorry i just didnt have time to fix this)
For non AT&T users if you would like to try this build you can probably use the ramfix or one of faux123's kernnel. I can not tests this so i have no idea if it will work

No sound or dialer after custom s4 root

Hi, i'm new to rooting and flashing. I recently rooted my phone using odin, and flashed a custom rom. I thought I did a backup of my original hardware but can't seem to get back to it. When using the custom rom, everything works except for sound or any apps that require sound, that includes the phone dialer so I can't recieve or make calls. I tried flashing new roms, I even unrooted and installed the stock s4 bell canada rom.
When the phone reboots, it'll say kernel is not seandroid enforcing, and from what I understand, that means that maybe my phone is still rooted??
Currently, i'm back to my stock s4 rom, but sound and phone still doesn't work. Please if anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
