[Q] Galaxy S3/in-car sound problems - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi can anyone help?
When i connect my Galaxy S3 to my car stereo via ordinary 3.5 jack plug, the sound is generally fine but as soon as the cable is moved even slightly, the sound cuts out and is very 'on/off'. The cable has to be left EXACTLY in the same position otherwise the sound output is very unreliable! Ive tried the connections at both ends and these appear fine. Its happened before with older phones but I didn't expect it with a brand new Galaxy S3. Sounds stupid but i wondered if it was the quality of the cable itself. So if its not the connections i can't understand what the problem could be. If anyone can help or needs more information please reply to this post.
Thanks

I have had 3 or 4 cables over only 2 phones but this doesn't seem to have solved the problem. These are the £1.50 or so variety from Amazon. Should I look for something better quality or should these type generally be ok? Like I said im 90% sure its not the connections.

[Q] Problems with audio jack

Hi all,
to my great frustration, I've discovered that my SGS2 line-out / headphones jack seems to have a slack joint, i.e. if you turn a connected plug around its long axis, a crackling sound is heared in the speakers and at some angular positions the stereo signal will be reduced to mono (i.e. one speaker gos silent). With one device (mobile outdoor speaker) I even had no sound at all at when inserting the plug with the wrong "orientation".
Did anybody experience the same problem or am I just out of luck here?
I am wondering whether sending back the device to the retailer (Amazon) or directly to Samsung (I'm situated in Germany) will yield the faster round-trip time, any experiences here?
Thanks!
PS: I know this may be a stupid question but can somebody PLEASE tell me how to search for multiple keywords with AND logic in this forum? Tried "+word +word" and "word AND word" (without the quotes) but nothing seems to work.
Are you using the headphones that came with it? My better half went through 4 sets of the stock samsung headphones with her original Galaxy S and all produced the same issue of losing one channel after a matter of days/weeks. having the jack inserted to about 2/3rds is a workaround but not ideal as you still lose some frequencies and it's insecure... They're just a bit pony.
No, I used different kind of headphones, including Sennheiser in-ear headphones and a standard male-male audio jack connected to some bigger hifi system. With some jacks I did not encounter the problem, but most of them lost some part of the signal with some orientations: I persume that the manufacturing tolerance of the jacks also plays a role...
Anyway, it's definitely not a problem of the jacks but of the device since I tried it with the SGS2 of a friend yesterday and it worked with the same jack that made problems with my device.
I will proceed sending my phone to Samsung for repair, I hope that won't take to long *sad looking*, I am so used to it now, it's card to survive to weeks without it.
I had the same problem, all I had to do was insert headphones cable "HARDER" into the audio jack until I herd a "click" sound.
I was way to over protective of this phone when i first had it, and wanted to handle too much with care, forced the dam cable in, and "click", sounded like it snapped into place, the audio worked correctly without cracking noise or without the need to wiggle to cable get clearer sound.
Perhaps your friends SGS2 is already used to headphone being inserted, but yours not. Just add a little pressure until you hear clip into place.
If this doesnt help, then repair or return.
Thanks for the hint, but unfortunately I had the jack inserted to the very end, so this was not the problem... sent in for repair now, let's see what happens.
I have a fix for you i think!!!!!!!!
ok . when i got my s2 like 4 days ago (at&t usa version) i noticed that when i plugged into my aux cable in my car that it was low sound cracking more volume on the left side , very annoying . NOW FOR A SIMPLE FIX FOR SOME TO TRY! PLUG IT IN ALL THE WAY! i noticed when plugging it in i wasnt fully plugging it in . it should go all the way down FULLY! the sound is perfect once this is done . I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU !!!!!! good luck

s3 galaxy sound problem auxin car

hi all, I have a problem connecting the phone to the car's auxiliary input, when I do it sounds very low and poor quality. It's strange because when I listen to music with headphones sound very strong and fairly well, but not in the car. Until a few days ago had a galaxy s2 if it sounded good for the auxiliary input any ideas? someone happened to him?
Thanks and regards.
My s3 works perfectly in my car. Maybe your plug wasn't all the way in. You really need to push it the last few millimeters.

[Q] Galaxy S3 external microphone in video recording

Dear Friends,
Does anybody know that how can i use an external microphone when i record a video?
I have galaxy 3 phone and yamaha mc7 mic. I can use it when i make audio recordings but in video recordings phone doesn't swift external mic. It continue to use its internal microphones.
How can i fix it?
I have one question more:
What audio quality does galaxy s3 have in video recordings? 128kbbs/44100hz ?
Thank you very much!
Hi there, unfortunately I am having a similar issue. I bought Screencast Video Recorder and it works pretty good. Anyway, on my other non Samsung brand phone, all I needed was a cable with two male ends. One was plugged into the phone and the other into the sound card and Sony Vegas would record the audio stream, while Screencast recorded the video.
The problem I am having with my Samsung Galaxy S3 is the speakers don't disable when I plug the cable in, nor does it record any of the audio.
Any ideas? If I come up with anything, I will update this thread and hopefully it will solve your problem also.
Good luck!
XLR to TRRS
You can actually make a TRRS to XLR and Headphone cable if you know how to solder. You can also buy them online, but you have to make sure that its an android cable and not iphone. Iphone reverses two of the poles, so it wont work with android. The results are great though. Use a dynamic microphone though, theres not enough power to use a condenser( or anything requiring 48v Phantom power). Heres a link to one of them, theyre typically around 30.00, but if you buy the XLR and TRRS Tip, it will only cost you about 15.00 and you'll be able to fix it if it breaks. http://www.plugittech.com/servlet/the-566/New-3.5mm-TRRS-Male/Detail

Hi Matt, that is great advice. I will use that in future, however, I accidently solved my issue.
When I pulled the cord out of my sound card and tried the diff ports nothing worked, so obviously I plugged it back into the mic port, and voila, the sound cancelled out on my S3 and the audio was going directly into Vegas.
So all I need to do now, is plug it into my sound card, unplug it once, and plug it back in, and I am good to go.
So I am a happy camper!

Good to hear. you might also want to consider buying a TRRS to TRS converter, maybe that will fix your re-plugging issue!

Tab 2 10.1 audio/video/usb(charge) cable

Hello,
I'll be hooking up my tab in the car and I'm looking for a cable that will charge over USB and provide audio out in one.
I found this guy on Amazon but it only says it works with the original Tab.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054MV84Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A36WKB83D3HR47
The video out is mirrored so I would just leave that part unplugged.
Does anyone have experience with this or something similar with the Tab 2?
Thanks!
I just ordered one. I'll give it a whirl and report back!
Be interesting to see how you get on, I'm in the process of mounting my P5110 in the car as well. I don't think the video would work anyway, but the audio should...
What bracket are you planning on using if you don't mind me asking?
I actually ended up making my own, a TV mount coupled with a gel case.
TV mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044YMQIW/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
Gel case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009L7OMVG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
With a little modification, it worked out quite well.
I like this setup because I can easily reach the tablet to control Pandora, Stitcher, Maps, etc, and still swing it over for a passenger to watch Netflix or browse the web. If I can get this cord to work, I'll be set!

Has anyone had success with this on 10.1?

Got the cable in the mail today. I hooked it up and everything works as expected.
I can't speak for the video plug, but the audio works perfectly and the usb charges as expected. I couldn't be happier!

Very nice setup, and with the minimum of cables hanging out of the Tab.
I must order the same cable now that you confirmed that it works, and post a pic once I have it mounted in my car.
Currently my trusty i9000 handles all my in car android needs with Navigon etc.. time to upgrade.
I still need a way to attach the cable to the mount without it looking like junk, but since it splits close to the usb/av end of the cable, this shouldn't be too hard.
Definitely post some pics once you have yours set up.
Since this is mainly going to stay in the car, I also set up Tasker to perform a few tasks when the device gets power.
On power connect:
- Turn screen on (I believe this happens anyway though)
- Set brightness to auto
- Set screen timeout to 24hrs (There is also a function to keep the screen from turning off, but it still dims the screen close to the devices set timeout, which I find annoying)
- Play audio (if paused)
On power disconnect:
- Pause audio
- Set screen timeout to 2min
- Lock screen
Just some food for thought.
Looks great!

So we can get audio out thru the 30-pin connector? hows the sound quality vs. the headphone jack? i assume since it works for the 10.1 tab 2 it should work on the 7.0, would love for a nice single connection setup like that when I work out a way to do an in-dash setup once i figure out a way to relocate the AC controls.
edit: 500th post :highfive:
has anyone got this working on a galaxy tab 2 7.0 (p3110 pref)
ive bought 2 diffrent cables and neither has routed audio out via dock,
is there something i should be doing within android to enable dock mode or route audio out via the connector or will it do that automatically?
i really need audio to come out via the dock connector so i can charge and play audio out of the one cable.

The audio on the 30 pin is the same audio on the headphone jack....... its audio.
The only difference between the 10 and the 7 is that the 7 has no video on the 30 pin
I bought a similar cable as yours But I cant get it to work the audio wont out through the cable only on the device. Any setting that I should do? Could you please show me your set up? Thanks you.

Do you happen to know someone with the tab 2 7.0 that you can test that cable with? I'm thinking about ordering one but would like confirmation that it works. Not interested in video, just audio and charging.

If it works on the p-51xx it will work the same on the P31xx except no video on 31xx 2.7.0 tabs
the pinouts are exactly the same.
So, will this cable bring video out from p5100?
Did anybody tried it on p5100?
Thanks

CHeck the Samsung accessories page for the adapter, if it says its compatible it is, if its doesn't list your model its not.
Just curious here...I've been long considering taking my Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch apart and somehow fashioning a Double Din head unit out of it. But I'm a little skeptical now because:
If I'm reading this right, you guys are saying that only audio comes out of the USB connector thing? But that doesn't make sense to me because why wouldn't the audio sound, and video sound be handled the same way? It just seems like to me they would be essentially the same thing, but then again I'm not very tech on the software side so idk

From what I gather, your audio in whatever form will be carried through the 30-pin connection on the GTab7.0. The only difference in the pin connector from the GTab10.1 and GTab7.0 is that Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, omitted the video pin on the GTab7.0.

Z2 aux output and car charger problems

Hi guys,
Has anyone else been able to output music via an aux cable?
I've tried 2 different cables which work with other phones and had no luck!
Also, an in car charger(cigarette lighter > mini usb) doesnt work either - again, works for other phones?!
Any help would be appreciated!

Same problem here. Bought 2 aux cable no sound when I use my Z2 but other phone works. My thoughts is about the Z2 Waterproof thingy just a guess. So if anyone found a fix on this let us know.
Thanks!
I have no issue with AUX. maybe something has to do with the car?

I'll give this one a try. I'll update you guys soon and Thanks!
Hi guys,
I'm actually having the same problem with you. I have tried different cables and cigarette lighter adapters on different cars.
I can confirm that neither charging nor aux cable works for me on the following cars: Mercedes C180, Renault Clio, Honda CRV, Ford Focus.
However, both the aux and charging magically worked on a Land Rover Defender (1973), connected to a mediocre Pioneer player. Also I do get a tiny bit of charge from the Merc's USB player port, probably for powering usb memory sticks, or players. But it is so slow it just slows the battery depleting rather than charging (better than nothing on a very long road trip I suppose, but I worry that it might hurt the battery in the long run)
I also do not get any music, if I use anything else than Sony's Walkman app when connected via Bluetooth. So i suspect this might be a software problem (perhaps to do with "throw" ?)
Anybody found a solution to these problems? Do any of you guys run the Z2 with a custom rom? if so, which one? because I'm thinking about installing a custom rom to see if that will help?
Also working fine for me. I use it daily with Viper 4 Android sound mod on stock and stock based Roms. D6503

Hi guys,
I hate to resurrect such an old topic. I don't know if any of the other people are still using their Z2, or moved on to another device. I've recently had to replace my 3.5mm jack because it died on me. Would not work with headphones, let alone an aux cable on a car. Turns out, a replaced 3.5mm jack fixed the problem for me. So unfortunately, it is highly likely that we're having a hardware issue (something perhaps you guys can get checked out through Sony).
I have no updates on the 12V charging issue. My phone charges all ok up until it hits %30-50 (depending on how many amps the 12V charger is), than it acts as if there is a loose contact.
I hope this helps some of you people.
