Hi
First of all, yes, I am aware that there are tools for my question, I just wanted to know the principle of how it works out of personal interest.
I have a rooted S3 and am trying to delete some of my bloatware. There is a list here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634624 ), which tells which application is safe to remove. Now my questions:
1. The list says which apk files to remove, but that should not be enough, right? There are also the files that are created during installation (data, cache, installation files), is that the "package name"?
2. Do tools like Titanium Backup uninstall all of the above files (data, cache) of the app as well?
Thanks for your help!
N.
Titanium removes all of it
R: Questions regarding bloatware removal
I remember a tool which uses aroma (u can flash the package thru clockwork and it will go trhu all options) that was meant to clean up bloatware from s3. (Plus add some stuff from cyanogen.
Pala tool for s3.
I used it it does what u tell it to do. Good tool.

You can use Rom Cleaner. That's what killbubble was talking about.
It's safe and you can add or remove apps according to your wishes. But read the thread first!
Uses Anono ROM it´s free of the bloatware. The best rom ever.

Thanks for all the replys. Like I said I'm aware that there are ROMs and tools out there that deal with that problem. I just wanted to know the principles behind it.
Anyone has an answer for my first question?

Two methods of removing bloat .
One remove from the rom before install .
Two remove after install and as you say some apks will create other files .
But many create no files until first used .
You can attempt to find these files in many cases it will be guesswork .
Wiping dalvik and cache in recovery will remove all in those areas and rebuild upon boot .
Installation files not seen any .

Hello,
Is it possible to simply modify any rom to contain pre-installed security app with user data ?
For example I have extracted lookout.apk and data from /data/data/com.lookout. My idea is simply copy these files to zip with custom rom. In case of lost/stolen phone, applications would stay with my settings even after factory reset.
I tried to put lookout.apk into system/app and data in data/data/com.lookout into the custom rom. The application was installed ok, but the data was completely missing. I am quite new in modifying roms, but I think there is some problem with missing instructions in manifest or update script.

Pardon, can somebody move it please ?
You can put the apk in the data/apps I don't know if you can put the actual saved data in....
apk is working perfectly. Problem is how to tell the rom to copy files with settings into /data/data/com.lookout. Good solution could be some script with commands such as
"cp /data/com.lookout/file1.txt /data/data/com.lookout/file1.txt" but I dont know if it is possible.
I tried to modify manifest.mf and cert.sf but files was not copied.

if i understand you question correctly, if someone where steal your phone and flash a new ROM you want lookout and your personal data from lookout to be installed when they flash the ROM? is this correct?
i think your confused, or either i am in regards to what exactly you mean? a factory reset and flashing a new ROM are two totally different things. a factory reset simply resets the installed ROM to its default settings. flashing a ROM resets "everything" data included. if someone were to steal your phone, flash a format all or wipe manually for that matter, and then install another ROM your data is GONE. no, getting it back for us normal people anyway.

the only way i know of to accomplish this would be to place the files on the /sdcard create a script that runs at boot (a fairly simple thing) and tell it to copy the file from the sdcard into the desired folder. this would have to be a custom ROM and the sdcard would have to have the file on it. again, if the person flashed a new ROM or formatted/repaleced the /sdcard, you're just SOL.
its possible use avast formally theft aware it integrates it self into the rom as root and survives a hard reset as well as offering alot of other features such as sms control and automatically turning n 3g and gps

Yes, thats exactly what I meant. I didn't realize, that after factory reset is data partition (/data) wiped. The script could be a good solution.
Of course I know after flashing rom everything will be gone. But I asume if somebody steal/find your phone. He will not be flashing rom at first time. Probably he will make factory reset and insert his sim card. It would be fine to know who is using your phone and where even after factory reset.
i rooted my phone and install cm9 then i want to move all my internal stuff into my system rom but is already 6mb out of 200mb how do i clean it up?
Use titanium backup

i want to know that format system in recovery formats the internal or system rom.
Cause the first time i use titanium backup i move everything on the rom on the stock version then i keep on doing that cause my phone goes bricked cause of uninstalling the wrong things that causes my phone. Then i finally got it running but somehow i use every format in the recovery and did factory reset then system rom still did not increase the size?
Remove the unnecessary apps from the rom using titanium backup or link2sd.....or replace the high memory consuming apps with other alternatives...like trebuchet with zeam....etc.
System Rom
I free system rom in the following way:
1) Remove apps like All live wallpaper,Gtalk, text to speech etc.which i don't use.But don't delete "live wallpaper picker".
2) Go to root/system/media/audio by using root explorer or else and mount r/w.Delete heavy sized ringtones,Notifications etc. upto 50kb.
Can try this. I m managing ICS this way.Other suggestions are most welcome!!

because I've read somehing in this forum about "ROM kitchen", so I can modify the stock ROM. because so many apps that I want to uninstall it.
2. how to get my current ROM in my phone??
I've search it for 4 days and no one have it. Sometimes I want to go back with the same firmware like I used now.
in order to remove system apps, you have to be rooted, you can uninstall it using titanium backup,

The stock rom, or the rom, or the firmware, is just the /system folder in your device.
In that folder you have to delete (or rename) in the folder /system/app/yourname.app and the corresponding .odex file to delete it from rom.
You can also use CWM.zip + Aroma Manager and load them sequentially from Recovery, choose in Aroma Manager to mount all partitions and do the above.
[Guide] Types of Android backups
There's also the possibility to modify yourself the rom, but, is much more difficult. If you are using Vodafone o other operator custom rom probably there is the unlocked one and is official (stock) as well.
Hello.
I have Omega v12 ROM installed.
But i want to install it again using "Remove Bloatware" option. I dont want any other method of this and i just want to install it again.
So heres my question->
How do i reinstall it without loosing my apps and apps data and rest of things?
You should be able to re-install over the top and remove all the bloatware
Just wipe Dalvik & Cache before install

But please tell me this only if you are full sure.
I dont want my any type of app or its data to be removed.
PS-> I cant use backup app, can tell reason. But if possible, please tell me without it.
I just want to know that whether reinstalling Omega removes my data or not
I'm sure
It is stated in the v12 change log it is a "no full wipe rom"
See the Omega discription on what is ment by "No Full Wipe Roms"

Do one thing..open the zip file..use 7zip.open the meta-INF FOLDER...open com》Google》android and use notepad++ to open updater script..now use search to find words format/delete..if the updater script deletes the /data partition your internal data will be wiped..otherwise just flash it over the current Rom with dalvik and cache wipe before and after flashing..

As the topic states, there are a bunch of prebundled apps that come with cyanogen I'd like to remove & replace (listed below); is it as simple as removing them from the .zip and adding the ones I want? Or is there more to it?
Also the apps I want to add, can I also include their backup data from the /data folder or does that have to be done after?
I think its just as simple as, extracting the zip files, removing the apks, and adding the ones I want, then repacking the zip?
Replace:
- Apollo with Poweramp
- Trebeck (or w/e it is) with Nova Prime
- AOSP Keyboard with SwiftKeyboard
- a custom kernel (just copy/replace the kernel zips files with whatever comes in cyanogens zip?)
- some others, but you get the gist
Remove:
- DSP Manager
- Exchange Services
- Email
- News & Weather
- some others (I know about the list(s) of safe apps to delete [1][2])
Add:
- Fonts
- Apps that I always install on a fresh install (Titanium Backup, Busybox, ROM Toolbox, etc)
I know about This Thread explaining how to build your own ROM, but I feel like that is more complicated process for (what seems simple) what I want to do.

I have done this with mr-cook's cooked ROM but have never tried it on a cm one. Sammy roms you just cut and paste the apk into the preload folder. I don't see why couldn't do that with the gapps zip. If it doesn't work you can just wipe and start over.
Also you can use titanium back up pro to do the same thing within the ROM

That is if you were using a Samsung based ROM. I don't think cm will be the same but like i said you can try it.
On a Samsung ROM it would need to be placed in preload/symlink/system/app in the zip file before you flash it. I don't think cm has this file.
You could try putting it in the system app file But like i said if it doesn't work, the worst thing that could happen is the ROM doesn't flash, doesn't boot, or it boots and you get a bunch of fc of apps. All you have to do is wipe and start over.

Not as easy as the apps as it would require changes to the updater script. Plus it could cause issues.

Actually your better off if you just use 7zip or WinRAR and open the zip instead of extract it. Navigate to the system apps folder and delete or add what your need to. It's as simple as drag and drop.

The fonts I have no clue. These apps would require changes to the updater script to put them in data where they belong.

great thank you mr-cook!
and the .apks that i put in the system/app folder, (specifically Nova launcher), i put the install .apk correct, as thats the only .apk i have for it.
And I also want to replace Browser.apk with Chrome; same procedure as the rest?
I guess its really just a trial-and-run scenario instead of asking questions... best way to learn
for those curious, or come across the same question: it worked out perfectly.
As far as the fonts go, I just added them to the system/fonts folder- worked as planned!
