I've fastbooted so i'm completely on stock. No safestrap, or custom ROM.
The official JB OTA didn't work either, but that was before I fastbooted and I haven't been able to see if the OTA works instead of the manual install but we'll have to wait and see.
I place the JB file on my ext. sd card.
I go into recovery and hit install from sd card and choose the JB.
It starts to update, but it gives me this error shortly after.
"Verifying update package
Failed to verify whole-file signature
Signature verification failed
Installation Aborted"
I've redownloaded the JB files twice and so I don't think its the files are corrupt. I don't know where else to go from here. I always do it with above 60% battery so that isn't a issue either.
Any help? Can't seem to find anyone who can fix this for me.
Hi poncedeleon,
This method worked for me...(i'm assuming you arent a noob with this)
Head over to :
Razr ROMs Thread
Download the version you need. I used one of the RETAIL en.EU brandings but this might not be relevant to you.
1. Extract the .zip to a folder
2. Put the Razr into Fastboot and connect USB
3. Run prj-mfastboot.exe from the extracted folder - this is a really quick step
4. Run FlashME.bat - took about 5 mins and should boot into stock rom
You will need to re-root if you want.
Hope this helps
Informal Disclaimer - please dont blame me if it goes wrong or doesnt work. it worked when i did it.

Hey, thanks for your help but it ended up working anyways. I guess the download i had was corrupt and that was causing it. I downloaded the JB from another website and it worked flawlessly.
Again, thanks for trying to help

Have some hardware problems with my phone (screen live its own life, I can control it form 1 cm away from the screen). And want to put everything back (so unroot it, and put original rom back. So I can send it in for repair.
Does anyone know who to do this?
check this http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/03/how-to-unroot-the-htc-hero/
They are also in [ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links
Plus there are a few others there that aren't listed on the other link given.
Thnx! But when I do this, i get an error message saying:
Error [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
The rom update Utility cannot update you Android phone.
Please get teh correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
What should i do?
What ROM version have you got at the moment? Which ROM are you trying to install?
Are you trying to put on an older ROM than you currently have?
You should be able to put the same or a newer ROM on. That error message is usually received when ppl are trying to downgrade *I THINK*.
Use HEROIMG.ZIP
I believe the easiest solution to your problem is the following:
- Run RUU update on your computer
- After the installer starts, and before it completes, search at your local temp directories for a file named "rom.zip"
- Copy it, this is your actual rom
- Rename it to HEROIMG.zip and put it in SD root
- Restart your hero while keeping Volume Down button pressed
- The bootloader will start and should normally find the HEROIMG and flash it
Done!
Good luck!
PS: I believe this process is written elsewhere in the forums but could not trace it at the moment.

Indeed it does not work. I get the error saying:

Atm I am using Villian 5.5.0
So if I understand correctly I have to wait till there is a 2.1 update for the Hero before I can go back to a official HTC rom?
Oh,... Your already running a custom ROM?

Strange wasn't working the first time i tried it :S But hey so thnx guys
WAHEY!!!!!
At last.
I just rooted my first android, obviously the TBolt.
I am very new to this. I may have touched 'Command' maybe once before this. I rooted manually with the help of everyone on this site and others. Everyone has been very helpful with this whole process, but now I'm stuck.
I want to flash a rom and kernel from Das BAMF 1.1
I download the rom and kernel, put the rom on my sd root and open with Rom Manager but it does not seem to take.
So i tried to open the kernel but putting that on the sd and hboot, right? The bootloader seems to read it but does not do anything with it. I'm assuming I'm suppose to be seeing what was going on when i rooted my phone.
If you need any other info, i'll be more than happy to provide that for you.
I would have posted in the development part of the forum but this is my first post on this site.
Thanks in advance. Would really appreciate the help. What's the point of root if i can't put a custom rom onto my TBolt?
I just loaded the ROM and went about it the same way you're trying.
Make sure you have PG05IMG.zip on the root of your SD (with that exact name). When you load into hboot, it *should* automatically detect it and start running through the process, you shouldn't have to hit anything. After it checks some files you should see something along the lines of "Do you want to start update? <vol up> yes <vol down> no".
If it hangs at any point you might want to try downloading it again. After you get the kernel loaded you can flash the rom file via RomManager from your SD Card.
Also, maybe throw a picture up of what you're seeing if the above doesn't seem to help.
Thank for the response!
Actually, after being so fed up with trying to get the zip to load with hboot, i decided to take another dive the manual way and fastboot the boot.img kernel through adb. It worked great! I checked the kernel after rebooting and it said that match 1st date that was in the file.
So, now I need to find a way to get the rim zip file on the phone. I downloaded the 1.2 version and I still get the same thing as before. I open clockwork recovery and install from sd and it says installation aborted.
Any ideas?

What do you mean by that? How are you selecting install from sd but you don't have the file on the SD?

Sorry! I typed all of that on my phone on my break. I mean to flash the rom zip file. It is on my sd card and I can see it when I boot into recovery but the installation aborts.
This is what I'm talking about...
I have a feeling this is not the first time someone has run into this.
There's probably some simple fix but since this is a new phone, there really isn't too much info on ROMs yet.
If anyone cares... i did it!
I used the one click root the first time and either i missed a step or there was a corrupted file somewhere because it's better now with the manual root.
I whiped the whole phone, rooted completely manually and all is well.
Also, the Das ROM installed properly.
thanks for everyone's help!
Hello Everyone
I know, there are many How-To's and ways to achieve what I want. unfortunately non of those I tried have worked.
My goal. I want to unroot my Hero, to send it back to RMA, because the usb controller is not working. And this is the second biggest Problem atm.
All the How-To's to unroot the device an install the original RUU or at least most of them include the use of the USB function. (creating a gold card 4 example or flashing a different bootloader)
To the USB Controller. It is hopeless. I tried everything. I even set up a Linux VM but where ever I plug it in, the system won't recognise my hero. They don't even recognise something.
Lucky me, the Hero is still able to charge the battery.
*****
Ok lets give some details on the actual situation.
I'm able to boot to HBOOT/Fastboot (volume down)
I'm able to boot to Clockwork Mod Recovery 2.5.0.7 (home)
Right now, it's restoring the system to FroydVillain 1.7.1, because i formated the boot partition (After 5 hours, I was tired and did one big mistake)
> The restore worked. I have my old System again.
What I tried to do
1. I downloaded the actual RUU, ran it, got the rom.zip out of it.
2. Booted into Clockwork Mod and tried to install from zip, where i got [Error Message 1]
3. Renamed the rom to update.zip and tried to install toe "normal" way. Also got the same [Error Message 1]
4. Renamed the rom into HEROIMG.zip, ran HBOOT which checks the zip and led me to [Error Message 2]
Error Message 1

I downloaded the actual Hero RUU three times from the website, in case something went wrong while dl.
I got an older RUU from a xda thread and tried it with tis one.
I am not able to create a goldcard, because you have to connect the phone via usb to a computer.
Well Any help is much appreciated.

Hey,
really sh*tty that usb ain't working..
having trouble from time to time myself, got a suggestion for ya though
1) find yourself a rom that is very close to a stock rom (suggesting stock WWE,
as can be found on this forum, mr bang, stock wwe rooted)
http://www.romraid.com/paul/hero/upd...5.5-signed.zip (maybe an option)
2) make sure it doesn't have a customized kernel (or flash the stock one )
3) make sure it doesn't have apps2sd
4) use universal androot => UNROOT
5) delete busybox from your phone
guess this should get as close as it can be to a stock sense rom
(meaning unrooted and minor customizations

Hey mattnmd
Thank you for the hints!
Actually I could not download the ROM because the link seems "wrong" but it pointed me in the right direction.
I found e repacked Stock ROM (1.5) which I was able to flash.
So... My base system is ok for the moment. BUT my recovery is not
There is still clockworkmod recovery installed and it won't let me install updates.
Now in the next step I need a way to flash a different recovery (the original) without the use of USB.
androot does work. btw =)
Thanks a lot

Put the Hero like stock without USB
Is there a solution for this already?!! I've exactly the same problem - USB doesn't works, not even for charge! And I need to make it stock-alike in order to send it to warranty. I managed to install the stock ROM but still, there's the AmonRa Bootloader installed... I created a goldcard without USB using this: w ww.mikesouthby.co.uk/2010/08/htc-desire-creating-goldcard-using-mac-or-linux/
but, when I try to apply the HEROIMG.zip trough Hboot, it says "Main version is older"
What am I missing?! Is the installed radio too recent for the stock image I'm trying to install?!
I have no solution jet. But I'll write as soon as I see a way.

HTC Desire S - xda app
Worked for me!!!
Well, I found a way to solve my problem! I needed to put my GSM Hero as stock as possible (without root/custom ROMS/AmonRa/etc) without USB... The only solution, as far as I've read is to flash using a GoldCard the zip file from the RUU *.exe from HTC. I manage to create the GoldenCard without USB but when I tried to flash, it would say "Main Version is Older" after checking the HEROIMG.zip . It finally worked when I used this particular RUU version: RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.38_WWE_release_signed_No Driver.exe from XDA thread #559622. Give it a try
Finally done
Hey dusturn
You are my (HTC) Hero
I just made the goldcard, and installed the new/old image (2.73.405.38) The Device got the old cupcake 1.5 on it and I was not able to get into recovery anymore!
It finally seems to be ok! Thank you very much!

How did you make goldcard without USB? I have the same problem but cannot find a solution.
I was very disappointed in Cyanogenmod. Although awesome it was with all those features, it was riddled by bugs and stability issues. I slowly realized the hard way that the Xperia Mini is not a very popular phone, so any bugs on it will take time to be fixed. In some cases, maybe not at all. So I'm sticking to rooting my phone with the stock ROM, and will try the official ICS when it comes out. It took me a lot of time to understand how to go about doing these things, around 3 whole days just to get Cyanogen on. And then bombarded with these issues. I had issues after issue, and finally called it quits and returned to stock ROM.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Cyanogen is a worthless ROM. Infact, the devs did a stupendous job on it, but somehow it still isn't usable for me for everyday purposes. Atleast, not without slowing me down.
So I wrote this so people could be spared of the hassle non-geeks like me would go through. Hopefully this is easy to understand and works well for you. None of this my own- this is information I gathered from many different posts and threads into one easy to follow guide. I do not take credit for any of this (other than converging it altogether here).
GUIDE : To return to stock ROM, use this Flashtool method. I'm assuming you are aware of fastboot as well ( You had to do that while trying to get Cyanogen on). So anyways-
1) Download Flashtool from here
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
I recommend grabbing the zip instead of the installer and unzip to the root of C: drive. (C:\Flashtool\)
2) Get the Xperia Mini stock ROM ftf file from here
http://www.multiupload.com/DAVR31YISS
3) Copy the FTF file and go to the Flashtool folder you extracted. Paste it inside the 'firmwares' folder.
4) Launch the software and click the 'Flash' button (the button with the lightning icon.). Select the 'Flashmode' option. If you did like I explained the software will have already found the FTF file, and all you have to do is click OK. Else browse for the file and click OK.
5) Follow the instructions that shows on the software. Note that the service button for our phone is the 'Volume Down' key. Use that.
Voila! You will now have returned to Stock firmware. But you still have to do certain things to make the phone completely functional (some things like Wifi, haptic feedback and all dont work when you flash this way).
1) First, root the phone. Use DoomLords method, easiest way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1321582
2) After you've done that, switch off the phone. Connect the phone so the fastboot can work (Switch off, connect using the Volume Up key. The blue LED light on top will confirm you've connected that way)
3) Remember that FTF file you downloaded? Go to that file, change the extention from 'ST15i_4.0.1.A.0.283_(1249-8388).ftf' to 'ST15i_4.0.1.A.0.283_(1249-8388).rar' (RAR in the end). Unzip it. Copy the 'kernel.sin' file.
4) When you setup fastboot previously (while installing Cyanogen), you would've installed Android SDK and some other stuff. Go to the android-sdk folder, navigate to 'tools' and paste the 'kernel.sin' file inside that folder.
(If you want to learn more about setting up fastboot, look here.)
5) Open command prompt (Cmd.exe). Change the directory to tools inside the android-sdk folder.
For example, in my case it would be
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Type in
fastboot flash boot kernel.sin
There! Now Wifi, Market and anything else that wasn't working before should be working now.
If you have any issues, reply to this thread. I'll try to assist if I can.
Cheers.
All good
I just wanna say thx I was on cyanogen and the SE software updater wasn't restoring the stock rom, I downloaded the .zip and change it to .ftf then flashed it with flash tool and that's it all working and I guess that when I did flash the stock rom also flashed the stock kernel but I'm just guessing, anyway thanks a lot.

Hi,
i have tried to follow your steps, but unfortunately the link to the stock ROM seems to be broken:.
could you please upload the file somewhere else?

Ok so you are currently US ICS???
Use region changer in AIO to change back to UK.
Then use AIO to preroot this:
UK
4.0.3 R1A WIFI ONLY

http://info.update.sony.net/ST003/nbx03_004/contents/0012/signed-nbx03_004-ota-120803061.zip
And install following instructions from AIO thread. If you do it right you will have new UK 4.0.3 R1A with root access.

Right, having a problem with this. Changed the region to UK, seemed to work fine, tablet rebooted
Put the zip file (wifi only version) onto the SD card and ran the AiO tool. It went through some processes, it did say that the region needed to be changed. The tablet then shut down (didn't reboot) and the AiO tool closed. And that was that.
So what am I missing out here. Any help much appreciated

Oh yeh v4.1 bit buggy like that. Try using v4.0 or even v3.4. You will need to turn updates off. It tells you when you open AIO so open v4.1 to read how to disable updates.
Good luck

Me again
Tried v3.4 and 4.0. First figured out how to stop it wanting to update.
V3.4 didn't seem to work, but v4.0 did at first. Went into menu 3 and chose option 1. This went through some processes and then to reboot into recovery mode. So far okay. Then installation failed (as it says on the AiO tool) but then the tool stops with 3 dots at the bottom. It offers no further instructions. The tablet asks whether to cancel and reboot or install from SD card.
So stuck again.
I tried watching the videos but for some reason I don't get any sound
Any other assistance would be appreciated and thanks so far.
An update if anyone can still help
When the tool creates the hack recovery file it seems to report some errors, something about not being able to verify googlegroups.com certificate but carries on. It then says it's pushing this file to the SD card and ask for the tablet to be rebooted into recovery mode. At this point the tools stops and goes no further.
I reboot into recovery it tries to install something but fails, so I go for the install from SD card but no hack recovery file there only an install.zip file. Reading the main discussion I see now that you install from this file. But it fails and I can go no further.
The main problem at this point is the AiO tool stop and hangs.
Currently trying v4, any ideas
Try using a newer adb version. It has helped others. Click faq link in signature adb 1.0.29.zip is attached there.

In decrypting the update file:
1-When asked to run _hack_recovery, run "install.zip". I guess there has been name confusions in all those updates.
2-"install.zip" will fail and then AiO will give you new directions. Now choose the firmware (signed-nbx03_001-ota-120803002.zip) or anything you have. You should copy it to SD card before the whole process.
Follow the instructions.
Another confusion in finally flashing the decrypted and signed update file:
When in recovery mode and AiO stops again,
1-run install.zip [it wouldn't fail], after this, AiO will simply tell you everything is done, delete or rename install.zip, and will exit. BUT NO ICS YET, and you're still in the recovery mode, on your own without further directions from AiO.
2-run _hack_recovery.zip [this one failed!!]
3-run the new install.zip [it was the old custom_updated_signed.zip]
Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
First I installed some new ADB files into the AiO tool 'files' folder and tried again
When the AiO tool asks to reboot into recovery mode I do that but the tool stops. I then ran the install.zip file and this fails (tablet stays in recovery) and the AiO tool does nothing further, just stops at the point telling me to reboot into recovery.
On your step 2 at the top, I run install.zip but get no new instructions from AiO

hmmm... I vaguely remember in my case AiO said something like: now run the update, it is surely 100% safe, AiO won't allow anything to flash on your device, blah blah, and this was shown on the command window (not 100% sure here though). I used AiO v4.0, btw. Did you check other threads? I saw successful cases with different steps from what I went through. Good luck, anyway!
