[Q] rm version issue - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi again,
i have a lumia 920 with rm-822 inside (bought in china),
i have been trying to flash it to rm-821 version with no success.
i get this error:
"The FFU file is not meant for this product. The platform ID of image does not match with platform ID of the device"
i tried 3 different versions so far.
what am i doing wrong?
what is the platform ID anyway?
can anyone help me please?

As I know, u cannot flash a 822 to 821. I know u can do a flash of 820 to 821 though, but I dunno if that works in ur particular case.

Platform ID is most likely a hard coded ID in the phones hardware to allow the updates to know what region the phone is and if the update is correct for that region. Now if you can unpack the update you might be able to change the platform ID it is expecting to your phones ID but then again you would have to know that ID. Short answer is you have to flash ROMS that are meant for the region your phone was purchased in.

interesing, do you know any way to repack the ffu files?

That would require a compiler/decompiler or kitchen as some might call it and I am not sure those are even available to the open market yet. I suppose they would be since Portico is out, somebody built it which mean they unpacked and packed it.. i would try to get in touch with those working on Portico.

thanx

I should have worded that differently seeing as English must not be your primary language.
When somebody says I would do something in the way I said it, it mean that if I was you I would do it.
In other words if you want to check into a kitchen or software needed to create ROMS then YOU as in YOURSELF not ME needs to contact the guys working on the Portico ROM.

from rm-822 to rm-821 is very difficult. there are Signature..who knows ?

Disable Microsoft Demo Mode?

Hey there,
I have a Nokia Lumia 920 with the Retail Demo Software, i wanna have a full WP8 OS on this Device.
Is it possible to disable the Demo mode?
You have to use the Nokia Care Suite to load a new Rom.
Sent from my LG-E970 using XDA Premium HD app
where can i find the the Download link for Version 2012.44.5.3?
Same here, help would be appreciated. Any way to get rid off the Demo mode? I have installed navifirm+ but really do not know which variant I have to download or how to install it, maybe because I am new to Windows Phone...
So the phones aren't even out yet on AT&T, ppl have been selling these stolen store demos ?
Demo mode is a special ROM loaded on phones display in retail stores. The only way to get rid of it is to load a different ROM. There is no easy way to do it. You have to research it yourself.

It's not stolen at all, we are officially selling these Phones and got 1 free when buying 5. The free one was the demo device, but I didn't know about that. Now I would like to use this device for myself but I can't... I did some research and downloaded a ROM but I really do not find any download link for Phoenix or JAF to install the ROM on my device so now I am really stuck and don't know what to do.
EDIT: Ok I downloaded Phoenix and it says the Lumia isn't even connected. Seems like fail. Any ideas?

That was interesting. When orginal Samsung Focus was released, store employees have to load the demo firmware by themselves IIRC. So now it is loaded by the coporate AT&T.

Actually I'm from Germany and it is not a branded device at all. It just comes with the demo to be placed in a shop where everybody can get their hands on it. But this isn't of any use for us. Help would still be appreciated
Your besy bet is head over to dev forum asking for how to load ROMs to it. But the first thing is to find the official ROM files to download. There is no common way in Windows Phone to load device ROMs from another ROM. Each manufacturer has its own ways. Once you loaded with official ROM tough, you can easily upgrade via common Windows Phone OTA update afterwards.

Navifirm doesn't have any RM-820 ROMs yet. Only 821. Did you successfully flash a RM-821 ROM onto a AT&T 920 (RM-820)???
Or, did you find a RM-820 ROM?
I tried to flash a 821 ROM onto my Rogers 920 which is also RM-820, and the phone won't boot, I am desperately trying to find a RM-820 ROM.

You are right I see, there is no RM-820. But I wasn't even able to flash the ROM because Phoenix didn't detecte my device, it was shown as not connected. How did you mange to flash it then? Btw my Lumia isn't from AT&T.

I chose a RM-821 rom to flash in NCS. It asked me to confirm since the ROM wasn't for this phone. I did, and it started flashing. Then it errored out, saying the ROM isn't for the phone and wouldn't go. I was left with a dead phone

Nope, mine was not a demo. I bought it off Kijiji.
I just had success in the past flashing a non-Rogers ROM onto my Lumia 900 and getting MMS and tethering to work. I thought I could do the same here.
If I understand correctly, you're in Germany. That would mean you have a RM-821 device. That would mean you have tons of options for flashing, Nokia Product Support for Store would be what you need. Just download the non-demo ROM for your country and flash it. If you're flashing a RM-821 ROM to a RM-821 device, you should be golden.
RM-821 ROM to a RM-820 device, not so much
It works. Nuff said.
HTC 8X demo mode -- ROM?
I've a similar issue, but with an HTC 8X.
Some guy on Craigslist sold my not-very-smart sister an HTC 8X Windows Phone 8 for $250. Of course, it is locked in demo mode and probably stolen. I've no idea to be honest. I would like to try to flash this demo mode HTC 8X phone into a regular AT&T phone.
I previously flashed a Windows 7.0 Samsung Focus phone w/ Mango through the wonderful instructions on this forum. I'm tempted to try it again, but I would appreciate any guidance on:
1. Finding the right ROM for a HTC 8X phone. It says:
OS version: 8.0.9905.12
Firmware revision: 1532.20.10012.502
Hardware revision number: 0002
2. Basic instructions on how to flash it (someone said navifirm-- do I just install it? etc.) where is it located?
3. Any thoughts on the process of flashing the ROM? Steps, etc.? I'm reasonably technologically savvy, but I don't code anymore these days so I'm not a whiz at this stuff.
Any help would be really appreciated! Thx.

[Q] Need help regarding Nokia Lumia 920 RM-822

Hello guys, I've got Nokia Lumia 920 from China with my friend's help. I was unable to install facebook, youtube & most of the apps, it just keeps on saying that this app is not available in your region though all those apps works in my friend's Lumia 800...
later i came to know that my phone is RM-822...
so can i do anything for this, to make it normal as other phones which r compatible to all apps...
may be debranding or changing RM numbers or product code stuff ?..
Have you tried changing the country/region setting to US?
What country is the Microsoft account you're using with the phone from?

It's probably because facebook and youtube are banned in China. So phones targeted for the Chinese market can't have those apps. maybe you can try to flash your phone with a RM821 firmware and maybe that will solve the problem..

is that possible to flash with RM-821 firmware. i think, phone will be not work ...someone in china have a try...:哭:
The Lumia 920T from China uses a different SoC with a different GPU than the US/EU-Versions (RM-820, RM-821) because it was the only Qualcomm Chip available that supports the Chinese 3G variant. Based on that I'm pretty sure that international ROMs will not work.

This might get it done but I'm not sure if rm-822 will support rm-821 firmware. Flash at your own risk. Seems like with this method you could always re-flash to rm-822 if it didn't work though. Good luck!

Hi Ellokomen.
Probably a stupid question, but what are the advantages of a developer ROM?
The Developer ROM has been there since at least November (as that's when I downloaded it)...
I don't know how significant it is, but there was never a Portico version of the Developer ROM before they were all pulled so it doesn't appear it's first on the list for updates if that is what you were thinking.

But again: what would be the advantage of flashing that to my phone?!?

Has anyone tried to flash this RM-821 ROM onto a RM-820 device? I know that technically they are different phones but you could flash the RM-819 (Lumia 800) onto a RM-801 without issue aside from perhaps a missing 3G band. But the 820/821 have exactly the same 3G bands just different LTE (which I don't care about) so it shouldn't be an issue right?

That's odd because when I tried to flash the RM-820 ATT Firmware to my international RM-821 Lumia Nokia Care Suite said that it's for a different model (or sthg like that) and then aborted the flashing process. This left my phone "soft bricked" - meaning that I had to re-flash it with a RM-821 ROM to get it working again.
I wonder if this Dev ROM might actually be a RM-820 ROM that is only (by mistake) labeled as RM-821?????
Has anyone tried to flash it to a RM-821 international model yet? Because from what I know the only Dev phones were RM-820 models and that always left me wondering why there is a Dev ROM for RM-821 but non for RM-820 when on the other hand there are only RM-820 Dev phones but no RM-821 dev phones.

It's not mistakenly mislabeled b/c nokia care suite now identifies my att lumia as a RM-821 (originally RM-820) and now in extras+info the manufacturer model name is RM-821_eu_euro1_425 so it's obviously designed as a european rom.

Well this makes me wonder whether RM-820 and RM-821 might actually be the exact same phone hardware wise with only some (artificial) lock preventing cross-flashing between those variants ...
Would be interesting whether you could flash other non-developer RM-821 ROMs to your RM-820 now and also if you could still flash it back to an RM-820 AT&T or Rogers ROM.

It shows the product code for the RM-821 dev rom and identifies it as RM-821.
edit: looked at the wrong place for the product code. It still has the original ATT product code but NCS still identifies it as an rm-821

Oddly the update menu entry is grayed out for me too but you can download a later version here:
http://www.seidea.com/2013/01/03/nokia-care-suite-pst-5-0-2012-51-4-4/
(don't forget to uninstall the old version before installing the new one!)
What @patrick92260 said about his phone now being identified as RM-821 and even with the Developer phone's product code makes it seem like he did not only flash the phone to a different ROM (with keeping the phone's original identity [model, product code] intact) but he also somehow managed to overwrite the part that holds those "phone identity information" with the ones of the Dev phone.
Maybe this has sthg to do with the version of NCS being used:
-the old version just flashed the ROM but didn't touch the "phone identity information", it allowed to flash to a different product code but refused to flash to a different model (RM-821/RM-820) and even after flashing to a different product code the phone still had it's original product code
-now the new version on the other hand might not only flash the ROM but might also overwrite the "phone identity information" with the ones of the ROM you are flashing and is thereby effectively changing the phones "identity" (model, product code) to the one of the ROM you're flashing.
This is just a theory of mine but when summing up the facts that:
-a few weeks ago I was unable to flash my RM-821 to an AT&T Portico ROM and now @alfaro58 tried it the other way round (flashing his RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) and we both ended up "soft bricking" our phones and had to re-flash them with the "correct" model's firmware to un-brick them
-a few months ago sb tried to unbrand his Roges RM-820 by flashing an RM-821 ROM and he also ended up soft-bricking it and then had to wait for a few days until a RM-820 ROM became available on Navifirm before he could unbrick his phone by flashing one of those
[email protected] now basically did the same thing that other guy did a a few months ago (flashing an RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) but instead of soft-bricking his phone it seems that he even managed to not only flash it with an RM-821 ROM but to actually make it an RM-821 phone.
All these facts kinda lead me to that assumption that it might have sthg to do with that new Nokia Care Suite version that was released earlier this month.
If I still had that buggy pre-Portico ROM on my Lumia I wouldn't hesitate trying to flash my RM-821 to a Rogers or AT&T ROM (because those seem to be first in line when it comes to updates - or at least they were this time) but with my phone now working perfectly with that RM-821 Entel ROM and me having several exams during the next few days I'm really not going to wipe my perfectly working phone just to prove this theory right or wrong - I hope you understand that.
@patrick92260 Which version of Nokia Care Suite did you use?
@alfaro58 Maybe you want to install the new NCS version and then try to flash your phone with the RM-821 firmware again using that updated NCS version?

[Q] developer 920 firmware issue

Hi,
I've got two developer 920s, one that I got from the build conference last year (and has no issues), and another that was sent to me directly from the nokia developer group in Finland. The one from finland came with an odd ROM installed (059N6W4) and because of that cannot install the amber update over the air. It is currently 1232.2107.1242.0001.
Nokia support wanted me to send it off to some company in Alabama (who's website doesn't even work right) to have it flashed, but I figure I should be able to do it just as easily.
But I can't get the nokia care suite to flash it with the proper firmware (059R2L5). It complains that the "FFU file is not meant for this product." when I try to flash it. Its odd because under Basic Info, it detects the product code as 059R2L5, but under Extended Info it says the basic product code is 059N6W4. Nokia care suite wants to upgrade it to 3047.0000.1326.2001, but just won't do it.
any suggestions on how to get this thing updated properly?

use refurbish option instead of upgrade and I think you need to flash pre-portico rogers rom in order to perform switch to 059R2L5

Thanks for the tip!
I flashed on the ancient rogers firmware, then did all the over the air updates, then was able to successfully flash the amber developer rom.
All is good.
I had same problem
Hi,
I have the exact same problem, how do I get a hold of the pre-portico rogers rom?
Thanks,
-Marek

Hello,
The link is not working.
And I want to change the product code for future product updates via NSU or OTA, else I have to flash firmware each time a new firmware appears.
Also If I use NSU (Nokia Software Utility for Retail) it reads the default product code and the update which flash my phone is the same original as for detected product code and not detected firmware.

You have this firmware RM-821 VAR EURO2 DE CV BLACK.
It means it's unbranded version for germany. So your phone came unbranded if this is the product code written on your phone label.

Yup, i know. Very happy with the phone and soon we will get the Lumia Black firmware.
Bump,
Any idea how can I permanently remove/replace "product code" in Lumia 920 ?
I reckon you can't. Your product code is --I believe-- "hard-coded" in the device. You can read it underneath the SIM holder, along with the IMEI. My guess is: if you can't change the IMEI, and the product code is printed in the same plate, very likely you also can't change the code. But I might be wrong.

what you talking? there no any product code underneath SIM card holder on my 920... and product code is software related, not hardware
just download any firmware (with product code) you want and flash it with NCS
I'm sorry for you, but there's a product code underneath SIM holder in my 925, along with the IMEI. Besides, if you check your product code with some tool like, for instance, NCS, it will show your hardware's product code regardless of the firmware you flashed, I believe.
you can flash, but you can't change it...

Yes you can Flash any ROM to a Lumia but the Product Code is programmed in the same manner as the IMEI... is HardCoded.
