Hi there, new to the Rezound and would like some help getting to either ICS or JB on a very stable ROM.
Currently my phone is unlocked, rooted and still s-on. (Is there a way to get s-off without using a wire?)
I am on Android 4.0.3. HTC Sense is 3.6. Other than having a rooted ROM its nothing fancy.
Ive read the forums and not doesn't make sense to me how to go from GB to either ICS or JB or Cyanogen Mod (if its available).
Any help you can provide is very much appreciated. I've read the great beginners guides on this site and its confusing to me. (sorry). I used to flash alot of different roms on my X2 and it seemed alot simpler. If it helps I have Titanium Backup, Clockwork RecoveryMod installed on my phone.
Questions are:
1. Can/Should I get s-on with still on GB? Without using a wire?
2. Which mod is most stable? I dont care for bleeding edge. Either ICS/JB/CM would be great.
3. How do I get from current GB to said mod?
Thanks in advance for the advise.
First of all, CWM doesn't play well with the Rezound. I would flash Amon Ra v3.16 instead. It's the most cooperative recovery with the Rezzy.
Immediately after getting Amon Ra on there I would make a nandroid so you always have a stock nand to go back to if you need it.
1. You are on ICS now. To get s-off you need to do the wire trick. It's not necessary to do it, you just have an extra step when you flash ROMs if you do not. I'm still s-on and it doesn't bother me a bit and I feel safer since it's easier to brick when you are s-off.
The extra step you end up with is having to flash the kernel after you flash the ROM. The ROM I'm using now puts the kernel in a PH98IMG file for you if you are s-on and then you just flash it in bootloader right after you flash the ROM, before booting up. Easy peasy.
If at some point you want to s-off you can do so, you'll just have to get back to stock to do it.
2. I recommend EclipticRez. It's great, super smooth, everything works and has great support. Download here
You can select Sense or Desensed when you flash. It will also make the kernel file for you so it's really easy if you are s-on.
3. You should be ICS if you are 4.0.3, GB is 2.x.x. Check your hboot and baseband info. Is your hboot 2.21 or 2.27? Did you just get the Rezound? New or used?
So to actually flash a ROM, first wipe - download CleanWipe from the development section, put it on your external sd card and flash the zip in recovery. Same thing for the ROM, put it on external card and flash zip in recovery. Have it on the card already when you wipe cuz you need to flash a ROM immediately after wiping.
Simplest.

This is how I do it when starting with a stock Rez.
All of this can be done with s-on.
flash 4.03.605.2 RUU
unlock
flash custom recovery, I've found Amon RA the best. Menu driven but stable.
Use Amon RA to flash the ROM of choice.
Fastboot the boot.img from the ROM of choice. This can be done before or after you flash the .zip
The phone will not boot without the correct boot.img (make sense?)
Paranthetic:
The Custom ROMS are findable. To get the "boot.img" just use Windows Explorer, right click the ROM.zip and copy the "boot.img" to the folder that "bootflash" is in and go. In my case, "C:\adb\fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Oh, a must know is DOS command line.
getting s-off is relatively riskier than just unlocking bootloader, you should follow the directions very closely. there is no other method besides the wire trick

Hey all,
I'm currently running Innefabilis Deus Alpha Preview and I like it, but will wait for another update that's more stable. Anyway, I tried reverting back to Ineffabilis v1.0 (GB) but when I installed a Kernel by dsb, it says something about "Main version is older!" in fastboot. I read that if you've already flashed the latest leak (ICS), it's not easy to revert back to GB.
I'm wondering if I'm able to use CleanTool to flash dsb's Kernel instead after flashing a GB Rom. Can anyone help me? I've already tried flashing other Kernels via fastboot on my phone and have failed.
This is a common problem right now and you can do a few things...fastest and easiest way is you can flash boot.img via fastboot for short term fix. Just pull the boot.img from the ROM you are flashing. This will get you up and running...but you will run into this again.
For a long term solution...I just came across this...which should help you...

No offense, but this is what you get for flashing a leak without understanding the repercussions. Fortunately, you can be helped but in the future it may not be possible to restore to an earlier version if you flash a leak via a PH98IMG.zip.
Several things you and others must understand now that you have flashed your phone via the PH98IMG.zip leak. If you flashed scott's rom of the leak, you are fine and this DOESN'T apply to you.
1) Your mainver was updated. It is possible you WILL NOT be able to EVER use an RUU to restore in the future. The RUU checks for the mainver and if yours is newer, it will error. A new RUU of the official ICS update will probably work, but that could be a ways off and you could be screwed if you need to RUU in the mean time.
2) Since your mainver was updated, the current ways to install kernels that involve PH98IMG.zips won't work unless you modify them yourself. So you will have to install them via fastboot. Some of them are distributed as zImages so you can't flash those anymore without devs updating their tools. It is unlikely that they will, because in order for them to work with your phones, it will update everyone elses mainver when they run the kernel installation and doing that for everyone would be irresponsible.
DO NOT FLASH THIS IF YOU DIDN'T UPDATE TO THE LEAK VIA A PH98IMG.ZIP IF YOU FLASHED THE BOOT IMAGE WITH FASTBOOT OR CLEANFLASH YOU ARE FINE. IF YOU MODIFIED THE android-info.txt YOURSELF BEFORE FLASHING BECAUSE YOU ARE SMART, DON'T FLASH THIS EITHER.
Anyway, to use:
1) Wipe in recovery
2) Format /system in recovery
3) Run your nandroid restore or install a rom of your choice.
4) Flash the PH98IMG.zip from the bootloader.
Restart and you should be OK

this works well. Myself I just cleaned everything up installed my GB rom, let it fail then pulled the battery and used the trusty droid to mount the sd card from the rezound and put this file on it. booted in to recovery let it do its thing and it worked perfect.
However I'm not sure if pulling the battery after the the file fails is safe, just a risk I took.
First of all excuse me for my bad english, second i really need your help very much an i will be very thankful if you could help me.
I am living in Georgia, tbilisi.
i wanted to sell my rezound but the guy who wanted to buy it asked me to Put ICS and after he woould buy it. i accepted this suggestion, i unlocked bootloader, put CMW touch recovery and Backup my stock ROM, after flashed cleanrom, but i really did not like it, after i wanted to return it gingerbread, as i was new and i was coming from SII and i just make Restore(as i was doing on SAMSUNG), of course it didn't turn on and stuck on bootloader, after i flashed stock rom but nothing happend, it is stucking on HTC white logo and nothing more. could someone just give me a hand. PLEASE!!
this is wrighten on my boot

Sounds like you need to flash the ph "patch" file to use ics Rom. Your still on a gb ruu.
I would suggest reading up on how to s-off
Then upgrade to the latest RUU. there are tons of post in the first link of this forum

Wrong section, please post threads like this in the Rezound Q&A section.
You need to flash the GB kernel either as a PH98IMG.zip in the bootloader or flash the boot.img with fastboot. Because your phone is s-on, recovery can't restore the kernel on it's own. Once you have it fixed, I would also recommend you use Amon Ra for recovery, not CWM.
Wrong section, but it appears that you may need to fast boot the boot.img for the gb rom you are trying to run, if you have not tried this already.
What mjones said lol... beat me to it
as i remember i tried to flash stock 2.3 ROM with it came PH98IMG.zip, but when i tried to flash it after rom it say older version or something like that.
i know that i am on wrong place and excuse me for that one more time but i am really in deep **** because i own money to person i need to fix it soon please guys can u provide me with right things, like give me a link how to s-off wothout turning on phone, and give me the right PH98IMG.zip and stock rom. Please guys i know that it is very hard but i am really in bad situation :
Flash this zip in recovery and then try to flash the PH98IMG from bootloader afterwards....The zip i posted should now allow you to do so.
I also suggest doing more research and reading up on things before attempting them on a device you are unfamiliar with.

now i am trying to update my phone with this 2.01.605.11 Gingerbread EXE RUU
from my pc but it finds some error.
now i will try from
PH98IMG.ZIP
i will tell what will happen.
what i find so quickly if i want to flash any rom i need to be s-off, only one way to make s-off as i saw i need some wires am i right? or is there any other way?
no other way, only one s-off method.
if i were you i would
1. Relock the bootloader.
a. boot into bootloader
b. go to fastboot
c. on pc navigate to your fastboot files in cmd line
d. type "fastboot oem lock"
2. Reset mainver
3. Run the latest leaked ics Ruu
4. Install amon ra 3.15
5. In amon ra go to developer section and install super user (regular not eng)
6. Unlock the bootloader
7. S-off the phone - http://unlimited.io
8. Flash amon ra 3.15 again
9. Reformat your sd card because it most likely got messed up from s-off
10. Install ivysaur 3.2
a. go into the pkmn tweaks and turn the boot animation sound off
b. make sure everything is fine and dandy and there you go
Look into each step further make sure you know what your doing.
So Im S-off and wanted to see if Ive got all i need to updating my rezound to global status and installing a new Rom
1. Ive gotten the RUU from here http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
Rename to PH98IMG.zip and put into root of SD card run in bootloader
(Q)I hear ppl say run the ruu 2x is this when its the exe or if im flashing the PH98IMG.zip, once is enough.
After Flash, run once to let the upgrade settle in or can I power off and switch the the PH98IMG.zip to an Amonra file and flash.
2. Flash Amon ra from here http://neo.androidrevolutions.com/. Put in root of SD card and let it run in bootloader.
3. Run root in recovery.
4. Should i reset the phone again in rom and in bootloader to clean it once more and should i run scotts cleanwipe now or before this?
5. Lastly Flash Rom of choice.
If im missing any steps plz let me. thanks for helping the noob

I'm the kind of guy that typically does everything via the computer/exe, but as far as I understand flashing the PG98 from bootloader should only need to be done once (it will reboot and continue after it updates hboot). Could be wrong though.
I typically let the stock rom boot once before flashing recovery.
After flashing recovery, boot to it. Typically you don't need to flash a root because most ROMS will already have root built in, but I'd check the details of it to make sure. If it does, just boot into recovery, factory reset/wipe, and flash your rom. If not, you should still be able to flash ROM/root, all in one swipe without needing to boot.

Really? I'm pretty sure it's because the 4.** upgrade had a new HBOOT, so the first flash updates HBOOT, then the second flash updates everything else. Personally, I had to flash twice initially, but I need to RUU again after breaking a different ROM, and it only required one flash since HBOOT was already up to date.
Thanks for the help guys. Ran ruu 2x for good measure then factory reset n cleanwiped. Ran the new rom n I'm back in business. Only thing is where are the governor kernel controls usually at. I'm using slimkang w snuzzo 1.3 kernal. Do I need to install setcpu or system tuner?
Thanks again for all the help

You are correct the first run updates the hboot. Then the phone goes black for about twenty seconds. And it'll go back to bootloader and and finish the update.. but it is recommended by some to just run it twice to be sure there's no gb crap left behind..

If I did the wire trick to get s-off how will flashing the latest RUU affect me? Wanted to try the latest Ineffabilis rom, but they say you should flash the RUU first. Can someone give me a run down of how this should work? I am unlocked, s-off, ICS firmware, amon ra recovery.

S-off won't affect your flashing any RUU. Just download the RUU you want to run , put on the external SD card rename to PHIMG98.zip then reboot to bootloader. Press power to access fastboot menu , it will then find the RUU and read it then ask it you want to update. Select volume up to choose yes and let it do its thing. It should automatically run twice , because the first time it just installs the stock recovery, and 2 other parts. Second time it installs the rest including radio's and system image.
When finally done it should reboot and you will be on the stock RUU that you ran. After that , just reflash a custom recovery and either restore a backup rom or flash the rom of your choice.

great explanation of how the ruu process is done. One thing to add, back up internal sd before doing this because it will be wiped.
Just to double check, I don't need to lock the phone before flashing RUU?

No, the modified jb will let you flash it.

Let me start off by saying that I'm a complete idiot and wasn't being very careful.
I have several problems with my Rezound right now and I'll try to be clear and concise. My internal SD card won't mount in the recovery menu, nor HBOOT, therefore I cannot flash PH98img.zip in HBOOT. My external SD will mount, but I'm not sure if the PH98img.zip will work from the external SD because it doesn't show up in HBOOT. My HBOOT reads as follows:
*** UNLOCKED ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.10.00000
eMMC-boot
OCT 5 2011,21:18:48
And also, here's a weird thing: My phone will show up in adb devices only when the phone is off or when I'm in the Recovery menu. My phone won't appear in adb devices when I'm in HBOOT menu. I'm running ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.3.
I have tried using a few different ROMs to no avail. I think my main problem as of now is that I cannot access my internal SD card. Before I install a ROM I wipe everything I can think to wipe, cache, dalvik cache, factory reset. Some of the ROMs have the Aroma installer where it asks if I want to wipe on those and I say yes every time. I cannot start my phone because I'm stuck on HTC white screen whenever I try to boot the phone. I've tried using the Old_Firmware_Patch.zip and the GB Firmware Patch.zip. I have had no luck so far. Again, I'm sorry that I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing and I need a bit of help. Thank you and I appreciate any help that you can give.
Additional Information
Prior to this complete failure in my phone I was using an early leak of ICS, one of Newts ROMs. His ROM didn't support 4G and had trouble with a few other things including stock wifi settings. Every time I tried to go to wifi settings the "com.settings.htc" or some such process would crash. So I wanted to update to a newer ICS ROM that hopefully supported 4G and didn't have problems with wifi settings. I thought it would be as simple as loading a ROM onto the external SD and loading it from recovery, but it wasn't that easy. Because I'm S-ON I apparently missed a few steps and forgot that I have to flash PH98img.zip. But now that I cannot access my internal SD card, I cannot flash PH98img.zip as far as I know.
First thing you want to do is get off of Clockwork Mod recovery. It doesn't play well with the Rezound. Go grab Amon Ra and flash v3.16.
Secondly, you can flash a PH98IMG file off the external sd, providing you can read it of course.
I think you are still on GB firmware based on your hboot, not completely sure about that. But it's def an old hboot.
So actually, I would run the RUU and update all your firmware, don't bother flashing Amon Ra first, do that after the RUU. Find it here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
Top one, 3.14.605.12. Then after you run that, you can check for and accept the latest OTA that came out a couple weeks ago and then you'll be up to date with the official updates.
You'll need to relock the phone before running the RUU
fastboot oem lock
And save everything you need from the phone first since this will wipe everything and get you back to factory stock.
Then to run the RUU attach the phone to your pc and double click on the exe RUU file. It will do it's thing. Or you can use the following commands in fastboot to get it going:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip NameOfZip.zip
Make sure you let it go all the way through. I ran the global RUU and the screen went black for a while then it goes back to finishing up, so if that happens just let it keep going. I think you end up in bootloader when it's done, and it'll ask you if you want to reboot. You should go ahead and boot up and make sure it's working okay.
After you run the RUU you will need to unlock again. Then flash Amon Ra, flash superSU for root (though I think you can just get root via Amon Ra again now) and make a nandroid of stock so you can always go back to this when you run into trouble, then flash a custom ROM if you choose.
That should sort everything out since like I said, it'll be a clean start and you'll get everything updated.
Oh, and the PH98IMG.zip file you have to flash because of being s-on is the kernel for the ROM you are flashing. So know that each PH98IMG.zip file is not the same as the other, the ROM makes the one you need using the kernel that is specifically for that ROM. So you'll either need to pull it out of the ROM and flash via fastboot, download the separate PH98IMG file if there is one in the ROM's thread, or the ROM may make one during the flash and leave the PH98IMG file on your SD card in which case you go to bootloader and accept the update, which will be the kernel.
If you don't flash the kernel then the phone won't boot, it'll just get stuck.
One last thing, I would grab CleanWipe from the Dev section and use that for wiping whenever you change ROMs. It'll really get the job done.
Back to stock now
You, feralicious, are a beautiful person for replying so detailed lol. I got my phone to start up gladly. I just now read your post. Earlier I got it working by following a thread which basically said exactly what you said: relock using fastboot oem lock and then do the lastest RUU. It was a thing of beauty. I as so lost prior to that.
It's good to know that each PH98IMG.zip is different per rom. I had no idea. I'm going to stay stock for a while. It's just nice to finally see that 4g up on the top of my phone after having dealt with 3g only for like 6 months. I'll definitely come back to this site if I have an trouble while attempting to re-root the phone. Thanks so much for your excellent reply.
