So, the stock keyboard seems to absolutely suck.
Most of the text predictions seem to be proper nouns from a long dead Eastern European language and every time I look for an "m" I trigger the delete key.
I can't always have 2 hands free to operate this behemoth, so I need a keyboard set up on the right hand side. Do any of them do it other than the retarded stock ap?

Try the Kii Keyboard in the market, i like it and bought the pro version, it is the most customizable keyboard i have ever used.

That's a nice list but it still doesn't answer the question regarding which ones are resizeable for one handed operation on this phone. So far I've found that Kii and SlideIT are acceptable alternatives but Kii keyboard is not moveable from one side to the other. I still like the stock Samsung keyboard better if it just had auto correct.
Sometimes changing the DPI on the keyboard will move it over, but personally I like Swype. I use it normal, but what really helps the one handed use across the whole device is my Flygrip. Best accessory I've ever bought.

Yes but that requires going into the settings every time you want to switch sides. I'm talking about the ability to switch sides quickly for using with either hand. SlideIT has a bar which can be pulled from side to side. I do like the top row numbers on the Kii keyboard though. I'd only used the samsung keyboard for about a week and was already accustomed to using the top row numbers.

Oh gotcha I didn't know that. Thats cool. Luckily for me ive got big hands. The top nunber row keeps me at kii tho for sure. Plus the fact that you can use any theme you find on the market. I'm digging TouchPal. Have you compared the two? Instead of long pressing, TouchPal allows you to press on key and slide up to choose upper character (number),slide down for punctuation. You can also press delete button or slide from delete left to delete entire word. Finally, it suggests words that show up between the keys that can be selected by dragging then to space bar. I also forgot that you can slide space bar up to select emotions. I'm sure there's more... LOL

If TouchPal had top row numbers it would be very close to the default Samsung keyboard. So close but not quite.

Yeah, I kinda stumbled into TouchPal Keyboard about a year ago since I have used TouchPal Dialer for years. Keyboard has proven more useful on my Note 2 than it did on my previous phones. And yeah, I went to the X version after official release (the beta was really flaky early in the development ).

Well, Swiftkey X has lost its appeal to me.
What are some of the best keyboards out there that, as odd a request as it might seem, are also light on system resources?
I just like a snappy keyboard that doesn't take two seconds to pop up or disappear, and doesn't 'stumble' when typing (no input for a sec, then all of a sudden puts in your last 3 strokes).
I don't need much in terms of theming, but the one thing I found with Swiftkey that I REALLY fell in love with was the ability to change the long key press time threshold...for example, I decreased it from like 500ms to 250ms...it makes typing for me a whole lot faster. Are there any other keyboards with that?
Thanks for your input fellas.
My swipe pops up right away. However, I HATE typing passwords or usernames with it. I know that doesn't really help, as I cna't find any keyboards I like... I can't stand swiftkey, especially with the browser, as that .com is ALWAYS in the way when I try to search. For general use, I like the stock keyboard actually... its less laggy than the froyo one was, but it still is a bit laggy...
i used for a while go keyboard, but now i'm using thumb keyboard 4 and it's highly customizable, fast no lags, perfect for my big fingers

I've been eyeing that one and think I'll check out the free demo/trial they have.
Unfortunately, Mgamerz, I kinda don't like any swype keyboards. I actually tried going back to it for a while when Swiftkey started fading and still couldn't get into it.
Thanks for the input guys.
I'm using thumb keyboard and its pretty good. Really like the portrait layout, making it soeasy to type.

Well I was mistaken, there is no demo.
But you like it? Never ran into any lag? I see a review here and there that says it lags but it was literally only like 2, and one of them was using the LG optimus (the little crappy one T-mobile has, I think)
@knjigo: You're right...I don't like swyping though. Plus, I'm actually referring not to the length of the vibration feedback, but to how long it takes for, say, when I press a letter at the top with a number mapped "under" it for the long keypress, I could actually change how long I had to wait while pressing the letter to get the number to pop up.

Lol. What keyboard are you using? If you typed that with Swype (timely typo), then maybe try to adjust the sensitivity and maybe checkout the tutorial. I was having issues too until I played around with it. Now it's my go to keyboard. Good luck

+1 for the ICS keyboard in the market. Great keyboard. I've got swiftkey but I just found it kind of meh.
I use Swype and I have a terrible time going back to any keyboard that doesn't have some sort of swiping interaction.
I have pretty large hands and I can reach all the way across the screen with my thumb, so I can hold and use the keyboard with the same hand. I don't think I'd be able to do that without a swiping keyboard.
I use swiftkey tablet X but there is one thing that annoys me to not end. The little area to the left of the "a" I seem to always hit vibrates when you click it but results in no "a".

Swype, but I use it like a standard keyboard (no 'swyping'). I use it because it has a hidden keyboard which makes cursor movement and other editing keys available. I came from a phone that had a mini joystick which made cursor movements around a text box very easy.
If you are wondering, to bring up the hidden keyboard you swype from the swype button to the right to the EN/'World' button.

This really is quite silly of Samsung. The keyboard has auto prediction and in my experience the auto prediction works quite well. The problem is that the keyboard will only input what you actually type regardless of whether or not it's correct. If you want to enter a predicted word you have to tap it yourself. I can't imagine it would be too difficult for Samsung to change the keyboard to favor the top predicted word, which would essentially be auto correct.
I'm still using the Samsung keyboard though because I'm getting along with the Swiftkey flow integration rather nicely.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I'm actually really happy for the number row since I use numbers frequently and it was a pain having to constantly toggle it on/off. And, that auto-correction is disabled as I usually disable it any. Just had to turn off auto-spacing and auto-capitalization because it was wreaking havoc on authenticating into web sites like this one as it was adding a space in-between my password. Good riddance I say...

It is reported that upcoming 4.1.2 (not 4.2) enhancements will include integrated "swyping" functionality into the keyboard so it wouldnt make sense for them not to rectify the autocorrection issue.

I might just have to switch to Swiftkey or Thumb Keyboard again - but that number row is GREAT - it is hard to turn away from it.
Yeah I went back to the stock samsung keyboard just cuz of the numbers... silly but I'm loving it! Just hooing for auto-correction. Maybe if they dont fix it someone will come out with a 3rd party with numbers!

I use smart keyboard pro.
Lots of features and customizable options. Adjustable size for portrait and landscape. The two best features are smart insert for punctuation (meaning you type a word, push space, push your punctuation symbol, and the keyboard put the punctuation after the word not the space). And auto text like on blackberry.
-Tm
Can't beat swype IMO, once you get the hang of it, it's just so much faster.
2nd is Swiftkey. Once swiftkey gets swiftkey flow better it will be the best.
I've tried so many keyboards, and keep retunring to better keyboard 8.

I'm using the Swiftkey Flow Beta. I was hoping it would be hands down the best since I really like Swiftkey's prediction and being able to swipe. But it's not as predictable as Swype for input. And you can't use the swipe input in auto-complete fields like browser address bars, To: fields in email and SMS.
The prediction is still the best though, so I may start just touch typing with it. But swiping with the stylus is pretty sweet.
Thumb keyboard is really good on the note 2. I like the shortcut feature and the split screen

Mainly wondering if there is a way to get the samsung board on aosp roms. I really like having the #'s row, ability to swipe, and have one handed option all in one board. Have tried and purchased probably every keyboard out there over the last two years. My favorite so far is ironically the Google Keyboard. Super simple and works good. Does everything I need it to and does it well.

It always has to a degree. It doesn't come straight out and give that option, it like most things takes a bit of tweaking. Since I have quite large hands, it never has been an issue for me so I didn't both writing down the exact settings I used to achieve it, but under keyboard layout, you would pick the keyboard layout you want, then go further down and mess with either the left or right padding options based on where you want it, and that quickly and easily creates a one-handed keyboard that you can fully adjust the sizing of as you desire by just tweaking those settings.
