Better keyboard? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone have any suggestions for a better keyboard on the note 2?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app

I use smart keyboard pro.
Lots of features and customizable options. Adjustable size for portrait and landscape. The two best features are smart insert for punctuation (meaning you type a word, push space, push your punctuation symbol, and the keyboard put the punctuation after the word not the space). And auto text like on blackberry.

Can't beat swype IMO, once you get the hang of it, it's just so much faster.
2nd is Swiftkey. Once swiftkey gets swiftkey flow better it will be the best.

I've tried so many keyboards, and keep retunring to better keyboard 8.

I'm using the Swiftkey Flow Beta. I was hoping it would be hands down the best since I really like Swiftkey's prediction and being able to swipe. But it's not as predictable as Swype for input. And you can't use the swipe input in auto-complete fields like browser address bars, To: fields in email and SMS.
The prediction is still the best though, so I may start just touch typing with it. But swiping with the stylus is pretty sweet.

Thumb keyboard is really good on the note 2. I like the shortcut feature and the split screen

Does Swift key have the swype action? Is that what flow is? Does it have a dedicated number row? What about punctuation on long press on keyboard keys?

Yes flow is the swype style one, no it doesn't have a dedicated number row, and it doesn't punctuate on long press... But then again I don't know any keyboard that does.

I just tried it and me think I likey too!! :silly: I usually use one of the swift key keyboards though... I like their new one but once it seems as if I am finally starting to get the hang of it, I get a "blah" moment (usually when I am trying to show off how cool the keyboard is) but I do like this smart keyboard pro too, it seems to work fairly well! :good:

Lol. What keyboard are you using? If you typed that with Swype (timely typo), then maybe try to adjust the sensitivity and maybe checkout the tutorial. I was having issues too until I played around with it. Now it's my go to keyboard. Good luck
I use perfect keyboard. I find that swiping a single finger can't possibly touch the speed of two thumbs. Plus I like the split keyboard in landscape as without it is a bitbof a stretch.

I used to use Better Keyboard before it was taken off the Market, but now I use ICS keyboard previously mentioned. If I ever used landscape to type, I'd grab a thumb keyboard.
Just picked up Swift Key X for. 49!

+1 for SwiftkeyX. And yep.. its on sale! Grab it before the price returns to normal.

LOVE better keyboard.
+1 for the ICS keyboard in the market. Great keyboard. I've got swiftkey but I just found it kind of meh.
I use Swype and I have a terrible time going back to any keyboard that doesn't have some sort of swiping interaction.
I have pretty large hands and I can reach all the way across the screen with my thumb, so I can hold and use the keyboard with the same hand. I don't think I'd be able to do that without a swiping keyboard.
I use swiftkey tablet X but there is one thing that annoys me to not end. The little area to the left of the "a" I seem to always hit vibrates when you click it but results in no "a".

Swype, but I use it like a standard keyboard (no 'swyping'). I use it because it has a hidden keyboard which makes cursor movement and other editing keys available. I came from a phone that had a mini joystick which made cursor movements around a text box very easy.
If you are wondering, to bring up the hidden keyboard you swype from the swype button to the right to the EN/'World' button.

Quite a few keyboards in the market have hidden cursors. Perfect keyboard and Gingerbread keyboard (by Stephen Lin I think) have hold, slide up space bar to get cursors.

Keyboard suggestions?

Any suggestions on what a good keyboard to use on my Touchpad?
I'm currently using some free one called Tablet Keyboard I think. It's ok but when in portrait view, i find it a bit tedious to keep switching between left and right half of the keyboard/screen.
[Sent from my *voided* HTC EVO 4G via Tapatalk 2]
Hackers keyboard is by far the best i've come accross yet.
swype (the new beta works perfectly on touchpad) or swiftkey tablet x for me
Thumb keyboard for me
Multilingual works well for me. Very configurable.
EDIT: I meant Multiling, danged autospell messed me up

Thumb keyboard or Swype, have them both, since I broke my right wrist Swype has been a lifesaver, lol.
if only the default keyboard can be slimmer and smaller. that will just do the job. anyone know how to do it?
or maybe port the webos keyboard

SwiftKey all the way
I've tried Smarter Keyboard, Swift Key X, GO Keyboard, and the Stock keyboard.
The predictions in Swift Key are the best I've ever seen. I bought it for my DesireHD and that worked so well. Until now I was using the Beta 3 on my TP but it's expired, so no more predictions
Now I have to buy the Tablet version because the normal one isn't quite suited for a 10" screen.
BTW, GO Keyboard is terrible. I like how minimal SwiftKey is. I don't want some stupid shortcut bar taking up room on the screen like in GO!
SwiftKey tablet is great, love the split keyboard and the predictions.

I've tried them all.and when you compare configuration possibilities and customization nothing beats Thumb Keyboard in any field. Swiftkey may have a little better prediction but nit enough to warrant me switching over from Thumb
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I'm using the stock keyboard most of the time since it has the best accuracy multi finger typing as on a physical keyboard.
Thumb Keyboard is the best I've used. (old screenshot below)
You can also check float and split keyboard. It has 4 different layout. I dont really use the prediction, so i dont know how the prediction is compared to other keyboard. But, it definitely has one of the best keyboard layout option i would say. These screenshots are two out of the 4 options.
Thank me if i helped

Swype Beta FTW! Best keyboard on the market right now. Ironically its actually not on the market... Oops, I meant play store. Swyping> letter typing. An average Swype user inputs more words per minute than a skilled conventional "button presser"

I like it a lot. I bought SwiftKey a while back and keep swapping between that and Swype beta.
The new SwiftKey seems to be the best of both.
2 things that make this a lot better than the Samsung keyboard for me are:
1. When you set the keyboard height to small, it takes up a lot less screen space and you can see a lot more of the active application. It seems the perfect size on our large Note screens. The Samsung keyboard is probably ok on a smaller screen, but the keys are way too big on the Note.
2. The punctuation button for !,.? auto disappears after you select one of them. With the Samsung keyboard you have to press the back button, which is silly as you very rarely use more than one punctuation mark at a time.

Flow functions just the same as regular swiftkey if you want to just type.
Wow, I´m deeply thankful for this step swiftkey just made. I was kind of frustrated since I got my Note I (same with my note II), as I really love SwiftKey as there simply is no better alternative for fast typing...BUT it was always impossible to change the keyboard to stock when putting out the S-Pen...and "tipping" with the S-Pen on Swiftkey was always senseless. For this reason, I abandoned the idea to use the pen for "tipping" actions for months now.
Since yesterday, these times are gone. Beautiful. Perfect for the note. I simply love it! Sadly, it will mean that I´ll have to buy the app again I guess. But perhaps SwiftKey is the king of consumer-friendlyness as well :highfive:
Omg, SwiftKey technology with swipe e con tre lingue. Frumos!

I'm fan of Swiftkey too, but am using the s-pen a lot for handwritten messages.
I hope they can / will implement that feature too.

Any keyboard other than stock slid to one side?

So, the stock keyboard seems to absolutely suck.
Most of the text predictions seem to be proper nouns from a long dead Eastern European language and every time I look for an "m" I trigger the delete key.
I can't always have 2 hands free to operate this behemoth, so I need a keyboard set up on the right hand side. Do any of them do it other than the retarded stock ap?
Google Works.
Try Kii Keyboard

That's a nice list but it still doesn't answer the question regarding which ones are resizeable for one handed operation on this phone. So far I've found that Kii and SlideIT are acceptable alternatives but Kii keyboard is not moveable from one side to the other. I still like the stock Samsung keyboard better if it just had auto correct.
Sometimes changing the DPI on the keyboard will move it over, but personally I like Swype. I use it normal, but what really helps the one handed use across the whole device is my Flygrip. Best accessory I've ever bought.

Yes but that requires going into the settings every time you want to switch sides. I'm talking about the ability to switch sides quickly for using with either hand. SlideIT has a bar which can be pulled from side to side. I do like the top row numbers on the Kii keyboard though. I'd only used the samsung keyboard for about a week and was already accustomed to using the top row numbers.

I'm digging TouchPal. Have you compared the two? Instead of long pressing, TouchPal allows you to press on key and slide up to choose upper character (number),slide down for punctuation. You can also press delete button or slide from delete left to delete entire word. Finally, it suggests words that show up between the keys that can be selected by dragging then to space bar. I also forgot that you can slide space bar up to select emotions. I'm sure there's more... LOL

If TouchPal had top row numbers it would be very close to the default Samsung keyboard. So close but not quite.

Best Keyboard with Auto-Correct?

Just rooted yesterday, stock ROM. I can't believe how much I miss auto-correct, yikes..
This is by far my favorite keyboard that I have used and I've used them all! Lol
I turned on the gestures (swipe) and turned off the sound and haptic feedback. Unlike some swipe keyboards, this one actually let's you type or swipe without screwing up if you fat thumb it because it "thinks" you're trying to swipe.
Doesn't take much to get used to, but IMO this is the best kB that I've used on my S3, Note2 and now my S4
Good luck

I think two best keyboards with auto-correct are as follows:
International Galaxy S4 Keyboard
and
Google Keyboard
I personally use the International S4 keyboard that built-in to the Hyperdrive ROM and it does a really good job without any lag.
Swift key has quite possibly the best auto correction I've ever used... And it's predictive text is eerily accurate. Almost as if it's mind reading. It also learns your typing style and language style from sms and twitter etc... The "swipe" feature (which swift key calls 'flow') is really cool because unlike with swype and Google keyboard, you don't have to lift your finger to start a new word. You can swipe to the space bar and just keep on swiping to the next word. And it works really well.
I typed this entire post (with the exception of the parentheses and punctuation) without lifting my finger once.
There is a free trial. And once it runs out auto correction disables, but you can still use the keyboard for free... I've tried a whole lot of keyboards and this is by far the best and worth the couple of bucks.
It's rare for an app/developer to truly impress me and provide an app I feel is worth paying money for, deserve support, are essential for all of my devices and are used daily; apps like nova launcher, titanium backup, sliding messaging, Tapatalk, poweramp and tablet talk... To me, swift key is one of those essential apps.

+1 for Swiftkey. It learns what/how you normally type to people. Example, It knows full sentences of stuff I say to my gf often to the point that all I have to do is keep hitting the space bar to type a full sentence.
Like a few others have already said, SwiftKey is probably the best keyboard available.

Yup. Swiftkey is overrated IMO, but that's the best thing about droids. Everyone can use what they want/like/use to. Like I mentioned before, I've tried em all. Including swift and honestly I still like Kii better than Gingerbread kB, jellybean kB, Swiftkey, ICS kB, TW kB etc...
But yet again, to each their own...
(Kii with gesture enabled and no sound or vibrate) and it too learns your words and sentences. So much so, that there have been times where it knows my next word and I've typed almost a whole sentence just by hitting the next word it predicted

im not a swiper.. so THUMB KEYBOARD rules for me.
I'm also one who prefers Kii over swiftkey. I like the layout better. One thing that drives me nuts in swiftkey is the .com button. It shortens the space bar and since I frequently search from the address bar I end up hitting it a lot and inserting a .com in my search.

I was a big supporter of Swiftkey, mainly for the auto correct funtion when typing. I have to say though that if you're addicted to swyping your words as opposed to typing, Google Keyboard is way better at getting it on the first go round. It's great if you need to reply to something, and you need your eyes elsewhere (not encouraging you to do so though )
Anyways, In order of opinion
Google Keyboard
Swiftkey 4
Swype
I'm using the Google Keyboard right now on my S4. I wish the Samsung keyboard worked better with autocorrect, but even with the international version with AC on, it lags behind my typing
SwiftKey Flow
Rooted S4
Just tried the Google kB and gave it a fair run to win me over and I'm still Kii all the way!
