I have recently bought HTC Amaze, its not TMobile or AT&T. Its simple HTC Amaze. I dont know what to call it branded or non branded.
Currently it has Gingerbread Installed, and there is no software update available for it. I have checked it many times.
I want to upgrade the software to Jelly Bean or ICS, I have downloaded many roms.
Here is what I did to flash custom rom.
1. Unlocked Bootloaded using HTC online support (Success)
2. Installed Clockwork Recovery (Success)
3. Rooted it (Success)
4. Took Backup of Stock Rom from ClockWork Recovery (Success)
5. Wiped Data/Factory Reset (Success)
6. Installed Custom Rom Downloaded from XDA Site
7. Installation Success
8. Rebooted and Phone stuck on HTC Logo
Repeated step from 5 onwards and no success. Tried many ROMs
I am seeing s-on in bootloaded
Please help me installing ICS or JB on HTC Amaze. I really need it.
How can I install ? and where I am missing some thing?
Go back to gingerbread then s-off the phone and super cid

Hello.
I have a friend's Thunderbolt that's called HTC Cobalt in Open Mobile. I unlocked it via HTC dev and it all ran successfully. Now I'm trying to install a recovery (CWM). And all I get is an error.
I tried installing it via Revolutionary, but no go. I also tried the All in One Thunderbolt tool and still no go. Here's a pic of the bootloader:
Is there a way to root this thing properly to add a recovery?
Can u flash 4ext in hboot?

Yes, and it said something about the phone's software being old.
And later attempted to use Zergrush, but it failed.

Well, I had to do an OEM lock just in case cuz he returns it. I told him not to though. Open mobile employees are kind of dumb so it would look better as relocked than unlocked.

I think its the very lastest. He got the phone this past week, and I tried to do a firmware update and it said up to date.

You need to unlock it again in order to put the recovery on it. That will be the only way to get superuser installed.

since youve allready unlocked, heres what id do:
-reunlock(use original token)
-fastboot flash recovery( fastboot flash recovery <recoveryname>.img
you can use any recovery,it doesnt have to be ext 4. i personally refer twrp or amon, but thats up to you.
-flash a rooted stock rom,2.11.605.5 or older
-run revolutionary
despite calling the open mobile modle "cobalt" the hboot screen clearly displays mecha,so theres really no reason revolutionary shouldnt work.
if it is getting some sort of CID error, might try making a gold card and putting it into the phone when running revolutionary.
in a worse case, you can always make a gold card and downgrade to exploitable vzw firmware, and manually write shadowmites permanent patched hboot. after that, you should be able to fastboot oem write cid 11111111 to superCID the TB and then run the open mobile ruu to get back to that firmware.
just holler if you need a download and/or help with the commands
Great post. I will try that. Thanks a TON!!!

check out this thread:
http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...591-help-root-htc-cobalt-aka-thunderbolt.html (i actually found yours while searching for info for the other one )
all he did was run fre3vo and then revolutionary. you can stay relocked and do that(directions here: http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html )
or you can re-unlock,flash recovery, then prolly flash superuser 3.0.7 instead of flashing a stock rom. all that really matters is root acess for revolutionary to work. shouldnt matter if its temp root from fre3vo,or permanent root from htcdev
the main thing is that it worked for him without the use of a gold card.
HI. I have a big problem... I tried flashing an OTA file with CWM recovery, and now I get to the HTC white screen with no Quitely brillant below
My hboot is unlocked and I am s-on
I could probable y access fastboot, though I cannot tell right now I cannot use it on the computer I have, but if I access fastboot I have the regular options, and the buttons works. if I choose recovey , I see a android CWM and a small bue progress bar and it reboots back to "Normal" wich is being the white HTC screen right now
I am able to access Hboot which makes me think that I can probably get out of this by flashing back my original RUU.
Pleasae tell me that i am right:
I thought of trying a factory reste to start with , but I am not sure this will work because of the recovery I installed.
My hboot is unlocked.
is it bad Doctor?:crying:
try flashing the stock recovery, then flash the ruu again.
it seems to be leading to something like this ... I'll try
And it worked!!!
I was able to relock the hboot prior to running videotron Ruu executable file. This worked like a charm... I have learned my lesson. I'll wait for my turn to be pushed. Thank you all.

no, the bootloader needs to be locked to flash any ruu file
Dude flash stock recovery relock boot loader then flash the RUU most recent one. And if your gonna unlock boot again and flash another custom recovery us 4ext its the best one in my opinion a lot of options very simple nice user interface no troubles as of yet. Plus it basically like having S-Off cause of smart flash it flashes kernels together with rom. Its 3.00$ on market or you can get it for free from internet or other apps. If anything feel free to pm me

I was trying to upgrade my rom from GB to higher versions. By mistake jumped to the JB direct using Cyanogen mod 10.1. Tried doing S-Off later but failed at the wired trick. After that reverting to old roms didnt work either. Even tried using ruu roms from t-mobile, asia version with locked boot loader. But it always get stuck on 2 green arrow after rebooting. Lastly i tried pushing recovery (twrp, 4ext) with unlocked boot loader and then flashing custom roms even with un signed rom for unbranded asian phones. But my phone get stucks on the htc logo.
Interestingly the recovery backup i have from few months back also not work after rebooting.
i tried almost all things i read on XDA forums which were proven to be working and followed step by step. But so far no luck.
Below is the information for my HTC Amaze, if it helps
******** UNLOCKED **************
Ruby PVT Ship S-ON RL
HBoot-1.92.0000
eMMC-boot

Current recovery 4EXT
cid: HTC__044
First of all you must have s-off before flashing any Rom..
And the wire trick is little difficult but after trying you can easily get s-off..
Keep trying in ubuntu 12.04..

Thanks for the reply. I tried this ROM but it didnt worked for me. Then i followed the instruction from the below link and it worked. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279289
So simply what i tried was flashing my kernal using the boot.img file from the unsigned rom. For which you provided the link and it restored my phone to working condition. I am so glad that my phone is back to life after two hectic days mess.
Just a quick question. Does it necessary to have S-Off for upgrading Asian HTC Amaze (unbranded) to ICS or JB ? Plus one should first upgrade to ICS then JB (not direct) using RUU ROMs if i understood right (though it didnt work for me not even for GB)

Hello. I have been searching for solution to my problem since last night. Some came close but couldn't solve my problem completely. I am using an International/Unbranded/Asian/Carrier Free Amaze 4G running GB 2.3.4. As every other International Amaze user, I wanted to update to ICS but I couldn't since there was no official update to ICS for unbranded Amaze. So, I researched on how to do it and I started the journey to update my Amaze. But I faced a problem during my journey
Here's a little background of my problem:
I used Hasoon's toolkit to unlock my bootloader, flash TWRP recovery and inject SuperUser and root my phone
After that, I researched on how I can update it to ICS. I read that to achieve what I wanted, I have to S-OFF my phone and then SuperCID it and flash ICS RUU. From here, I searched on how to achieve S-OFF on my phone. I read that Hasoon had another toolkit for this purpose. I reached his thread and opened the download link but I couldn't find the file. I read he taken it down for some reason. I then googled Hasoon's toolkit and I got a download link!
Now, I am set to S-OFF my Amaze. Excited! I didn't had an external SD card so I went and got it from my dad's S3. Then, I ran juopunutbear v.6 for the first time. Everything was going good, untill " Loading sixpacks into SD card". I got an error "Barman won't serve!" .. I looked at my phone and it was stuck at the "arrow screen". I couldn't restart it unless I pulled the battery. I couldn't boot it into recovery. But I could boot it into bootloader. Anyways, I read on Juopunutbear's website that if I am stuck on "Arrow Screen" "This is normal during the procedure, until you have gained S-OFF. Run program again.". So, I ran Juopunutbear v.6 again but again the Barman won't serve me!
Curse you, Barman! I read that if I am stuck during the process I should try it on a different PC using a different cable and SD card. I changed my SD card. Found one in my drawer. Ran Juopunutbear v.6 again and voila! This time the barman served me! Now, I have been trying the wire trick for gazillion times on my Amaze but I always get the error "Still Sober". But this error is not the real problem
Short summary of my problem: I am stuck at the "Arrow Screen" attached below. My phone won't restart unless I pull out the battery. And when I start it again, it's stuck on the "Arrow Screen" .. I can't boot into recovery but I can boot into bootloader. I tried relocking my bootloader and flashing a new kernel using Hasoon's tool but as soon as my phone boots into the bootloader, my PC won't recognize it! I am stuck on a CMD screen saying < waiting for device >
I have searched a lot for my problem. I have gone till page 10 of "Amaze Q/A, Help and Troubleshooting" on XDA, I have googled it as much as I could. Some solution came close to my problem but couldn't solve my problem completely! Please help me, guys! I am using Windows 8 on both of my PCs.
Thank you

Hello, I just bought a used AT&T M8 and am trying to convert it back to sense. Im not familiar with messing with HTCs. I see in hboot that it is unlocked and s-off. It looks like they put pure google on it. Ive been looking and seeing different instructionson gett phone back to stock but they seem scattered. I saw and tried running official ruu for 1.58 found in another thread but only get to the point where it tries to reboot into boot loader and then it says it cant and to find a ruu compatible with my device. I cant tell what custom recovery it has. Everytime in hboot when i choose recovery it just hangs and says bad command. Can somebody tell me instructions on how to run this ruu?

In your boot loader, what os does it say you have? We need to know if they did a true gpe conversion or just a rom. Does it have 3 android guys on skateboards or something else?

You are on an gpe conversion and cannot flash sense roms. You need to follow this guide to get back to sense
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523
Make sure you change your cid to 11111111 before doing anything, it says to do this in the guide, but just saying
Update if anyone is interested, was able to flash a stock rooted Rom after following steps from thread posted above.

I know you solved your issue another way. But just so you know (and others, too) an RUU does not typically require stock recovery; while OTA does require stock recovery (probably the reason for the confusion).
Thanks. I ended up just flashing the RUU yesterday with stock rooted Rom and TWRP. This is why I love XDA. I was able to buy a M8 pretty cheap and thanks to people here, I was able to get it going.?
