I recently bought a Milestone X2 and I want to switch it out with the service I am getting on my Verizon Droid 3. I've searched around and I wasnt able to find any straight answer on how to go about doing this. So, how do I get my Verizon service and number to go in use on my Milestone X2? Do I call Verizon tech support or go to the store and have them add it? Or can I just flash a different sbf? Or do I do both? All help is much appreciated!
most likely the mx2 will not work on verizon
which model mx2?

Are you serious? On the label behind the battery it says MB867
Droid models are made for Verizon, they have rights to the 'droid' name
Milestone models are for other carriers.
verizon is a CDMA carrier, most other carriers are GMS
Droid 3s are made for verizon, but have CDMA and GMS global radio
X2s are CDMA or GSM

but to be sure, use the Check Your Device
you need a MEID HEX CDMA ID (looks like A000002d3443r2)
more about this in my list
sd_shadow's [Collection] of Links: FAQs, Guides, Rooting, SBFs, ROMs... - Google Docs
Check Your Device tells me that the ID is invalid and to contact Customer Support. This phone is CDMA and use to run on a regional network

yes it does
the mx2 is a cdma only device that does not operate on the bands that versizon use for 3g it should not nor do i think it will ever work for verizon. you actually have better luck with moving the phone to sprint as the network band the mx2 support are owned by sprint for 3g service. 800 and 1900 mhz. verizon uses the 2000mhz band for 3g. it takes some major firmware and hardware mods to get it to function on multiple networks. your better off purchasing a used verizon phone and working with that unless your willing to just have 1x access and only make phone calls and texts(no mms) and that has a snow balls chance in hell of actually working.
Ah, guess I'm out of luck then :/ now I'm stuck with a $150 paper weight
wow, I think you over paid
should be able to get a used Droid X2, on ebay for under $100

No, Verizon is a CDMA network and T-Mobile is GSM. Two different technologies, It would be like trying to put a Ford big block 460 in a Honda Accord. It just won't fit.
Thanks for your quick response =)

"GSM Ready"?
Hello,
I have been searching the forum, but none of the posts seem to have an answer.
The specs on Motorola Droid X2 state that this phone is "GSM Ready".
What does that mean?
Does it actually have a SIM Card slot (regular or micro)?
And if it has one, does the phone need to be unlocked to accept SIM cards from other GSM carriers?
Thanks,
CJ

Just found the answer at another forum:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/topic/8...id-2-global-and-pro-updatezip-public-release/
Though I am still not sure if this applies to X2 or not, the specs on it don't say it is a "Global" Droid model, but rather "GSM Ready".
I don't have the phone that is why I am trying to figure out whether it worth buying to use on GSM Network...
Anyway, if it does have a SIM Card slot and I decide to buy one, in addition to Radio firmware fix, I would have to unlock it too, which is also questionable as I am not VZW customer and the phone I am trying to buy has a Bad ESN...
So it does not seem it worth going through all this trouble and ending up with
a WiFi Only device not a phone. I don't think I'll be buying one...
GSM ready??????????

Can't you just dail " *#*#4636#*#* " switch the radio setting call up another carrier and give them the Esm number?
Try it all those menu options require a sim card. That menu gives us ping & turn off radio & "cheesecake" servers but not much else.
Ok so i have a Razr Xt912, i have it rooted and running safestrap. Ive been looking around since ive seen awhile back on the portal it can be used with GSM carriers. But the more i look into it the more convoluted it gets. So is it really possible to get it to work on GSM like AT&T and T-Mobile? and if so can some one please give me links since ive searched and searched but nothing is making sense to me for once.

i feel your pain homes. it is confusing and i never could get any help from anybody on this. i dont know if youve gotten the info you are looking for. i figured id give you what i got when i was looking just in case. from what i gathered the rooting and bootstrap deal would work to unlock razrs that were still on gb to be used on global gsm carriers but not domestic(att/tmobile). however if youve already upgraded to ics then no modding is necessary because ics is already unlocked for global use. there is currently no way to unlock the razr for domestic gsm usage. not even by purchasing an unlock code. i know because i tried that. i purchased 3 different unlock codes for 2 different razrs and 1 razr maxx from theunlockshack.com and they replied saying they couldnt generate a code. although they never refunded my money for the purchases. so i advise to not do business with them. i also purchased another code from a different site, dont remember which. they were also unable to generate a code. i even called verizon and talked to somebody in some special department. the guy told me that there is no way that verizon would unlock the razr or razr maxx for domestic gsm usage. the rep said there may be a way to unlock via rooting but couldnt give me specifics. im assuming he maybe saw some of the same info that we did that lead us down the this journey of disappointment. hope that helps bud... if i am wrong please correct me for i have 2 razrs and 1 razr max all with clean esn's that i want to unlock. all 3 are for sale

so on all these edits you've been looking at you haven't encountered a way to successfully unlock the sim to the motorola razr xt912. i'm trying to get it compatible for the use with straight talk. just wondered in it was hopeless or not. maybe you could answer this for me.
I currently have a Droid DNA through Verizon and would like to switch to Straight Talk. I see options for both AT&T and T-Mobile compatible SIM cards, and am curious which one I should go with. I live in the Houston area. I prefer not to have to cut the card but it's not a deal breaker.
In my area AT&T has much wider and more reliable data coverage. I was often on edge everywhere in my hometown while on T-Mobile. This may not be the case for Houston. Just test drive both networks for a month each.
Ah, excellent point. Should be cheap enough to try them both. Thanks!
I actually work in Electronics at Walmart and deal with this all the time. Straight Talk will not move 4G LTE phones to their service. They aren't compatible and do not have the agreements with carriers for LTE access. If you read the CDMA/GSM bring your own phone package that includes the SIM cards it says in bold writing LTE Phones are not compatible. The DNA would not be able to be used on Straight Talk because it is a LTE phone. Straight Talk has a list of approved devices on their website. Because you do have to provide your phones IMEI they will know it is a LTE phone and deny your request to activate the phone on their services.
Kutster, I hate to correct you but I actually did successfully connect my Droid DNA using the Walmart SIM card. Now in my area it was actually called FamilyMobile, and run by T-Mobile. I purchased a SIM card from Walmart, took it home, plugged it in, set up an account, and it worked. Granted, you don't get LTE, but it does work and is mega cheap ($40/mo unlimited). I ended up cancelling and taking it back, simply because the internet was very slow, and the coverage wasn't very good in my area (T-Mobile sucks in my area). I do want to stress though that it definitely does work! I think I'll try AT&T GoPhone next.
The important thing to remember is this phone (the DNA) has all the radios necessary to connect to just about anybody but Sprint's network. Don't always believe what the companies tell ya.

See that's where your terms and confusion of prepaid comes into play. Of course Family Mobile worked they don't have restrictions on LTE especially since Family Mobile is powered by T-mobile. Straight Talk which is the company I was referring to and the company you were referring to does has limitations on LTE phones, and will NOT allow any LTE phone to to brought to their service. This has to do with they license the use of multiple carriers towers.
Trust me I am not trying to be rude, but I honestly deal with this on a daily basis. You know how many Straight Talk bring your own phone kits I have had to refund because customers buy them for their nice Verizon LTE smartphones? It doesn't work. I am telling you from my experience and my countless hours on the phone with Straight Talk reps and on their website, what their policy is on LTE phones. I beg you to go to Walmart and look at the Straight Talk CDMA/GSM BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) kits that they sell for $60. In the middle of that package on the front it says something along the lines of "LTE Phones are not Compatible." Which like it reads means you cannot bring over a LTE phone to Straight Talk.
AT&T prepaid I would venture to guess would work, but I can't remember if AT&T is as picky as Verizon is about what smartphones get put on their prepaid plans. You would have to call and find out.
So once again, please keep in mind that every prepaid carrier is different, use different towers, and different policies. Just because it worked on one does not mean a different company has policies that differ or block that same practice.
I didn't realize StraightTalk and FamilyMobile were different. I just assumed that when I went to Walmart it was whatever they were using. I see now that StraightTalk is AT&T and FamilyMobile is T-Mobile. I only had the option for FamilyMobile at my Walmart. Thanks for the clarification.
I'm not going to disagree, but I will say that the FamilyMobile website also said my specific phone was not eligible, but it did in fact work. So to anyone else reading this, YMMV. Considering Walmart takes the card back for a full refund, I don't see a problem in at least attempting it (except that employees such as yourself have to deal with it ). It makes sense to me that there's no way for the carrier to enforce specific phones when they are SIM card based. So long as your phone has the radios that carrier operates on, it should work. My guess is that the LTE phones statement on the package is in reference to the fact that you won't get LTE speeds with that network.

Being an an LTE device wouldn't matter in this case since the LTE radio will only work on the CDMA side of the phone and with Verizon's LTE. It has UMTS and Straight Talk already confirmed with me the phone would get 3G while on their network. There's not a magic way of them detecting an LTE phone ( one that works on a CDMA carrier mind you) and flipping the off switch. The 2G and 3G networks are available for AT&T and T-Mobile regardless of which prepaid carrier you use.

Im not going to argue about it. When you go to activate a BYOP on Straight Talk you have to input the IMEI, which does tell Straight Talk if the phone is LTE capable or not and if it isn't eligible it will not allow you to activate the phone. Period. I hate done it and tried it. It isn't like ATT where you put in the SIM card and it is activated. You activate the phone IMEI and SIM card # with Straight Talk. That is how it works with BYOP.
@Impala Im glad you had luck getting Family Mobile working.
Uh, I'm currently using Straight Talk on my DNA with full HSPA+ capability, as are many others.

Yeah I just read up on that. I wonder if the DNA 700mhz band will work. I checked online and it shows AT&T as using the 700 bands as well (a,b,c) I'm assuming the new Sim they are selling enables the LTE?
Can anyone with the new Sim confirm LTE connectivity?
EDIT : looks like at&t is band 17 and Verizon is 13. The FCC is pushing for interoperability within the upper 700 but it looks as if the chipset controls which band LTE operates off of...damn. It would be sweet to get LTE on an unlimited prepaid plan.
Interesting. I wonder if GoPhone or anyone else that's AT&T related would work LTE wise?

Me too. Straight Talk claims LTE works for unlocked AT&T smartphones.
Hey everyone, I'm totally new to Straight Talk and GSM and the DNA being used somewhere besides Verizon. (I'm a long time VZ customer but read Android Police daily and am familiar with all things Android.) Anyways, I'm pretty clear on using the phone on Straight Talk, getting MMS and all that, my only question is, how do you go about getting OTA's? Since the phone technically is a Verizon phone, updates would come from them. While on Straight Talk can I throw a Verizon sim card in the phone, download the OTA. Then after completing the update, put back in my AT&T sim card. Or does HTC offer OTA downloads online?
How do you guys go about updating your phone? (OTA's obviously apply to non-rooted devices. I may or may not root it.)
Thanks for your help!

so if im off contract with verizon they have to unlock my phones from now on? since i buy everything at full retail off contract?

Great that this is finally happen to promote competitive pricing on hardware that will no longer be exclusive to a carrier
I understood it better by reading this news article http://www.techspot.com/news/54711-...-wireless-carriers-to-unlock-cell-phones.html
While this does not effect our Note 3, it does effect Verizon's network availability to other carriers phones. i.e. phones that support all bands etc etc will also have to be available for use on Verizon. With the latest phones supporting all bands/frequencies (gsm & cdma both) it will allow us to use other phones that we could not before.
Example here would be the Nexus 5 support (our band(s) of lte can be enabled through ota as long as Verizon's network will allow it, but obviously Google can't do that until Verizon signs off on it)
Basically qualcomm has it disabled in the chip itself....and it can be updated.....

You would still have to be able to activate the device on Verizon's network, which they don't and likely won't allow. Unlocking the SIM doesn't make it work with Verizon.

Re-read what I wrote.
I'm referring to unlocking the chip itself, not just the SIM. And I also stated the same thing about verizon not allowing it, hence what this thread is about. Verizon doesn't allow it, but that's what the FCC is trying to change.
Example - 2013 Nexus 7..... Similar to what I'm referring to.

Long story short, if this actually got approved, manufacturers could make phones that support Verizon's bands/frequencies regardless of how Verizon feels about it. Device would be compatible even without Verizon's permission.

Re-read what I wrote.
I'm referring to unlocking the chip itself, not just the SIM. And I also stated the same thing about verizon not allowing it, hence what this thread is about. Verizon doesn't allow it, but that's what the FCC is trying to change.

This is only true with an LTE only device which will exist towards the end of the year. However VoLTE will still be limited. Any device with CDMA tech will not get approved unless it's a Verizon device. This IS about carrier (SIM) unlocking. Not sure what "chip" you are referring to.
We are testing a pretty neat build made specifically for these networks....any one interested or on those two networks interested in testing some more?
I've been running the lollipop build for a few weeks now and I have to say that it's ROCK solid! Beats is included, LTE data, solid battery life, all around awesome ROM!
Plus ATT dialer, updated camera,Full VVM working...
I have been trying to use my Verizon HTC One Max with Cricket for sometime, but the cell signal never goes over one bar. If you think this might help I'd be glad to try it out. I can't stand using this crappy windows phone I had to get through cricket x.x

I use my Verizon one max on at&t network with no problems They are cdma but the sim part can be used as gsm never had a problem out of it. A good freind of mine which is a developer tweeked my stock rom for better battery life and speed and deodexed. I must say it turned out pretty good. I alwasys thought about trying a different rom but can't get myself to do it.. lol I just wanted to put this out there that the verizon devices do work well with gsm at least on at&t....

I don't get LTE because the bands for lte are on the cdma bands but i do have 4g on gsm which is close enough. I used to have the sprint model which takes a little work to get sim unlock but the verizon model is better and fcc told verizon they couldn't sim lock their devices any truth behind this i don't know..
Yes I can confirm that The Verizon Htc one max variant T6VZW can get LTE and 4G on cricket network It mainly depends where you live, for example Here in Houston TX I get LTE most of the times, my device is rooted and S-off I have TWRP recovery installed I am running Cyanogen mod 12.1 lollypop and of course Xposed installed, yes I still toy around with nightlies (since there is not official CM13 yet and the unofficial version was not very satisfactory to be my daily driver, in addition to the Cyanogen ROM, I have LTE OnOff app installed that allows me to switch bands at will and I have never issues with connectivity you can find that app on aptoide or some other places I believe it was pulled and based out of the thunderbolt device (I know so long ago right) but It still works perfect. Any thing else you might want to know or share just please let us know, I know there is people that still interested in finding any kind of support for the Htc One max, for example it will be awesome to have MultiROM ported for all HTC one Max Variants right? cheers fellows!
