[GUIDE] New method of root - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hi guys! i've found new method of root! it's maked by skydev for 4x hd but i tested it on p760 and works!
Prerequisites
A rooted Optimus L9 with a v10a of however a rooted firmware installed
Device adb drivers installed (so that a phone is detected as an ADB device when in B&R Recovery mode), adb itself is included in the archive
You need an installed Busybox! (/system/bin preferred, or need to edit bat file)
Warning: Do NOT do factory reset between step 1 and step 3! Otherwise /data/rootkit will be deleted, and you will have to start over.
Important note for linux users: bat files are for Windows. If you are using linux, i assume that it will be easy for you to open bat files and do commands by hand.
Step 0
Backup all your settings, and data from internal storage (!), cause factory reset (wipe) will be required.
You can try using LG's backup tool or Titanium Backup or anything else.
Also I'd strongly recommend removing SIM card and SD card from the phone.
Step 1
Make sure USB debugging is enabled (Settings -> Dev Options -> Debugging)
Connect your phone to your PC.
Execute file step0.bat and ensure that you grant su priv to ADB shell (2000).
Now execute file step1.bat - it:
- creates folder /data/rootkit
- copies busybox from /system/bin to /data/rootkit
- copies su from /system/xbin to /data/rootkit
- copies Superuser.apk from /system/app to /data/rootkit
- ensures owner and group of 0 for those files
- chmods files to required attributes (06755 for su, 0644 for apk, 0777 for busybox)
Result should be something like this: Note: In v2 i modified step1, so it tries to copy busybusybox from bin and xbin - one of them will fail, thats normal.
Step 2
Upgrade your firmware to what firmware you want
DO NOT DO FACTORY RESET! OR YOU WILL DELETE /data/rootkit FOLDER! DO STEP 3 FIRST!
Step 3
After successful upgrade shut down your phone.
Now, with USB connected (!!), hold volume up and power, and keep holding it at least until you hear windows "new device" sound.
You must see something like this:
Now execute file step3.bat - it:
- remounts system as writeable
- copies su to /system/xbin/
- copies superuser to /system/app/
- sets permissions on those files
Step 4
Now you can hold power button to reboot or just run step4.bat to reboot instantly.
Make sure that root is working, before doing factory reset!
Now you are STRONGLY recommended to do factory reset - or many things will mess up, such as lock screen settings or storage.
AGAIN warning, that factory reset WILL wipe internal storage, look at step 0
If you did all things correct, root will be kept (because it is on ro system partition now)
Step 5
Enjoy.

If we already have root then what is the point of this?

looks like a less involved (read: easier) method of rooting your phone. great job markolino!!!

is that you can upgrade your firmware (maybe v10a that can be rooted normally) to other firmware

Very nice. Thank You for the tutorial.

Why no markup?...
PS: If you look at some dev threads of 4x i already mentioned, that it may work on and LG phone.
I am now researching brd (Backup Recovery Daemon), using which it may be possible to root any LG phone in no time.

If V10A rooted is required, then we can easily restore available CWM backups. I still don't get why such cryptic way required for upgrading to other firmware? may be I am missing something.

I think tinkering like this in general is very useful. Finding stuff like this might lead to other discoveries, it definitely doesn't hurt to try.

Yeah but you already need root in the first place to do this so how is this better then the other root you already have.

Dude if you are already rooted and want to keep your device rooted after update install Voodoo Ota Rootkeeper

I was on Rooted V10C and with CWM Backup provided by Dark Fable, I restored it and went directly on V10G in one easy shot. There are backups available for almost all version in this post . Its for already rooted devices. Isn't this easiest process? I am not against this method but I dont see a reason to run this process on already rooted device.

Baseband and bootloader using CWM Method isn't restored. With this method you can flash baseband and bootloader, this method is better.

@Artas, I think you told me that you were gonna add flash baseband feature in next CWM touch, right? May be this is the reason you could not add it yet.
At least please inform how can we flash only BASEBAND in exact steps with this method? If BASEBAND flash works fine, then we can flash P765 BASEBAND on P760ROM flashed on P765 device and still have our own baseband made for our country.
Now I understand what TABLECHAIR meant when he said "I think tinkering like this in general is very useful. Finding stuff like this might lead to other discoveries, it definitely doesn't hurt to try." Hmmm TableChair saw future here.
Sorry markolino631

isn't baseband a lib-ril and all lib ril related? there isn't any baseband partition!

That's sounds nice.

Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en and backup all your apps(on SD card)
Step 3(next step) of this post will reset(factory reset) your phone.
BACKUP ALL YOUR CONTACTS AND CALENDER ON GOOGLE
BACKUP ALL YOUR MESSAGES AND IMPORTANT STUFF !!
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SD CARD ON PC FOR SAFETY (THIS WILL BE DONE AFTER ALL BACKUPS ARE DONE I.E. LAST BACKUP)
Step 3: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
If you have no idea about this, read this
Why exactly is this a big deal? For the general population, this doesn’t matter. However, for the modding community, locked bootloaders are simply a pain. When the bootloader is locked, certain portions of the device are unable to be customized such as recoveries or kernels. A lot of the time, when rooting a device, the first step requires the bootloader to be unlocked or bypassed. So, depending on the device in question and the will of the developer, creative Android hacking has allowed some devices with locked bootloaders to run custom ROMs. Generally, these devices aren’t as stable as they could be if the device was able to be completely customized from the ground up.
1) http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the steps carefully ( skip step 13, we've already done that )
IF YOU GET STUCK ON STEP 14,DO THIS
to navigate to android SDK folder, use this command(without quotes)
"cd location_of_your_android_SDK\platform-tools"
for me, it was - "C:\androidSDK\platform-tools"
2)If you followed the rules, you will have an unlocked bootloader
3)Yipeeee !!!
4)Dont worry about your apps, they're still on your SD card
5)Restore only the apps which are very important and you cant live without them for a day..
Step 4: INSTALLING CWM(CLOCK WORK MOD / RECOVERY)
if you dont know what cwm is, just read but dont follow the steps to install it
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
1) http://www.mediafire.com/?73xv18tht0e8zt4 download cwm
2)Connect your phone in MSC (mass storage mode) mode and wait until SD card available to PC
3)increase your display time out to 2 minutes
4)Enable USB debugging and allow 3rd party/unknown sources
5)open the downloaded folder(extract first)
6)Run install-cwm1.cmd
7)sit back and enjoy!!!
8)once finished, you'll have cwm installed!!!!
9)to check if you have cwm, turn off phone
10)turn on and when sony logo appears, repeatedly press vol down button until you reach a blue colored menu, if successful, cwm is installed properly!! if not, please comment or reinstall it.
11)navigation in cwm-
go up-vol up
go down-vol down
select option-home button
previous menu-back button
thanks siddharthsure93
Step 5: TAKING A NANDROID BACKUP
if you have no idea about this, read this
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/38468-nandroid-backup-what-is-it-and-did-i-need-it/
make sure that your sd card has at least 1gb free space and you have 50% battery charge
1)Hoping that you have cwm installed, turn off phone
2)Enter cwm by repeatedly press vol down button when sony logo appears
3)go to "backup and restore"
4)select "backup"
5)wait for 10-15 minutes till your phone is backuped
6)now you have a copy of your current phone and rom memory
we do this to restore phone if something goes wrong
NOW YOU HAVE PREPARED YOUR PHONE TO GET CM9 OR ANY FU*KIN ROM !!! :good::good:
IF I GO WRONG SOMEWHERE, PLEASE CORRECT ME WE ALL LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES.
PLEASE PRESS THE THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED YOU

Im with a neo v with A.0.62 firmware
Which cannot be rooted
But i have already unlocked bootloader
what can I do now?
If i directly flash in JB Kernel and rom, will I be able to have root permissions? Do i even need to care about my .62 firmware if i want to go into CM10?
What should i do? Thanks!

You will need to root your phone first. Installing a custom ROM won't automatically give you root acces. In fact, I don't think you will be able to install a custom ROM without ClockWork Mod Recovery which needs root access first. Follow Sony's own rooting guide here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0. Then install X-Parts from the Play Store to get CWM.
Once you have CWM you can install any appropriate custom ROM you like.
Oh is that gonna be painful
Iv unlocked bootloaded with .62 firmware
So i cant get to official ics and stucked with the .62, flashing an older firmware for the root is risky? After that i have to go back to .62 again?

Use flash tool and an ftf file to update to ICS. You can go with 0.587 version for example.
After update as you are on unlocked bootloader you should flash a custom ICS kernel like suave, night elf or any other ICS compatible. This will give you root and cwm.
Look at the stickys. You will find all you need.

You can always relock the bootloader (don't know what method you used to unlock, so can't advise on how to relock - I only know how if unlocking was done through Sony). Update the firnware to stock Sony ICS using Sony's PC Companion. Then root it using Sony's rooting guide. After rooting you can unlock the bootloader again. Install X-Parts and CWM. Then try out the custom ROMs+kernels to your heart's content.

On the other hand, unlocking via official method gives you an easy option to Relock bl via flashtool!
There's a thread by Blagus on how to do that!
Btw even Relocking via setool is an option for unofficially unlocked bl users!
So there's always an option!

Yes. That's the tutorial I'm talking about. I only mentioned what I did because I've done it before. After relocking use PC Companion to update your phone. Or the Sony phone repair program. I don't remember which. If you try both (like I did) one (or both) of them will work. But still you are out of warranty. You know that, don't you?

Basically its all about DRM loss. What do I exactly lose? Only trackid? I suppose the newer versions run on unlocked bootloaders as well.

I think you are right. It's basically about losing DRM. I don't know what it is and of what use it is. All I know is I've never missed it. If you are into trying out custom ROMs then unlocking the bootloader is a must because certain custom ROMs need custom kernels. To install custom kernels you must have an unlocked bootloader.

No, I completely wiped the tab, applied update through recovery, did factory reset then applied root. Sorry can't be of more help. Have you true the automated root from the link I posted? It's based on debug fs but run through a batch file, maybe you should look at that batch file if you haven't already and see if there is anything different to what you have already tried. Root TF201
I am not responsible for bricked devices, use at your own risk!
Ok. Got root on OTA Jellybean tf201.
Here's what I did, not sure if unlocking bootloader is necessary.
Unzip wintools to desktop, put twrp-recovery.blob in tools folder.
save Superuser-3.2-arm-signed.zip to internal memory on tf201
Update to JB ota,
restart phone in bootloader (adb reboot bootloader) or (hold vol down + power, on reboot release power while holding down vol)
select fastboot (usb symbol)
on pc execute cmd in directory with fastboot then run fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp-recovery.blob
once your twrp recovery is flashed just flash Superuser-3.2-arm-signed.zip and you should be rooted.

It's based on debug fs but run through a batch file, maybe you should look at that batch file if you haven't already and see if there is anything different to what you have already tried. (Or try it if you haven't already, you never know.... good luck!)

It would appear that I got lucky when I said previously that I managed to root with no problem and sorry if I misled anyone...
So, my experience here says that the only way to get root is by having a partial root...It would appear that I had this but did not know as there was no "on screen evidence"
My case was this...
As I am a firm believer in always starting afresh when any update comes along (I think especially this should be so in the case of an "incremental" update such as this -it was not a full rom as the size was too small - one should never have faith that all will be well afterwards as often seen on windows updates, mac os updates and android updates...) so I prefer to completely wipe device then start again and re-install apps after.
So, for anybody who wants rooted JB who hasn't been lucky enough to get it so far you'll have to be prepared to either wait for someone to find an exploit or do what I luckily did which also gives you a completely fresh start/clean install.
1 Backup everything you want by whatever is your favourite way of doing it
2 Reflash to .28 by using micro sd update
3 Root .28 using automated debugfs
4 protect root with voodoo ota rootkeeper
5 download and install JB update
6 Factory reset (wipe data in the recovery menu)
7 Run automated debugfs root (this works because of the hidden partial root I had)
8 Re-install apps
At least this way you get an "as new" OS and can tidy up your apps and data at the same time. I think this FW rocks and has, so far, shown absolutely 100% rock solid performance. :good:

You can't downgrade without the bootloader unlocked
Hi all,
as the OTA update to jellybean was not working (dead android with yellow triangle), I downloaded the FW from asus web site.
Installed with the SD card procedure, all went fine.
BUT, the root backup of OTA root keeper is lost, and I'm now stuck without root. The root process is not working anymore (vipermod and co gives an access denied when copying files) and I cannot rollback.
Don't want to unlock my device, so let's hope somebody will find a way to root the JB...
To all: DO NOT MANUALLY UPDATE if you want to keep your root!

[N7 2013 WiFi | N7 2013 LTE] CF-Auto-Root

CF-Root is the root for "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock firmwares, and be the quickest and easiest way for your first root.
Donate
CF-Root has been available for many devices and has clocked over 16 million downloads. This is not even counting custom ROMs that already include it. Don't be a leech, buy me a beer (and use the "Thanks" button!). Imagine if every CF-Root user has donated me $1...
What's installed
- SuperSU binary and APK
- Nothing else, that's it.
Installation and usage
- Download the ZIP file (see post below for link)
- Extract the ZIP file
- Boot your device in bootloader/fastboot mode. Usually this can be done by turning your device off, then holding VolDown+Power to turn it on.
- Connect your device to your computer using USB
- Windows:
--- Run root-windows.bat
- Linux
--- chmod +x root-linux.sh
--- Run root-linux.sh
- Mac OS X
--- chmod +x root-mac.sh
--- Run root-mac.sh
- Follow the on-screen instructions - watch both the computer and the device !
Note that if your device had not been unlocked before, this procedure will wipe all your data !
Are you having fastboot driver issues? You can find fastboot drivers in many places, but the easiest way is probably just installing the Android SDK.
Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.
Not included - adbd Insecure
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

For Flo, bootloader is volume down and power.
Newbie question - Once rooted with this method will I still get OTA updates? If so will it retain root?

Yes, you will get OTA
BTW, you will get OTA's also with custom recovery like CWM, but you cannot install it via custom recovery. For that you need Stock recovery

Thats not true... I got the 4.3.1 update for my deb and had root+twrp. After hit install it boot to twrp and installs the ota after boot up root is still there. No Problems here
Great that it works fine for you!
But that will work not for all customers. Some reported that after they recived and downloaded the OTA they got an error while installation in custom recovery.
I rooted my Nexus 7c LTE..
now i can see an unlock logo in startup... anywhere i can remove it?
thanks!
No, that's normal for unlocked bootloader. Only not shown when you close the bootloader again.
Thank you!
any idea how to close the bootloader?
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Nexus Toolkit - easy way to lock the bootloader. But, for Root, you need an Unlock Bootloader...
decide...
THANKS!!!

It worked perfectly for me first try. I should say that I had just rooted my Nexus 7 LTE with Chainfire's method before I updated my N7 OTA. After the update, root was lost. I simply went through the steps again and re-rooted it. I should also state that I did not lose any of my data on during the 2nd root.
I'm going to donate to Chainfire.
same here, only difference,
I came from a factory image fash. Auto root worked

Unlock BL-Root .136-Relock BL

Hey, I just followed the following steps and have working Bravia engine (Me thinks ) with root on a .136 C6833.
Backup TA.
unlock bootloader
1) full flash .136 ftf using flashtool. let the phone boot up and do all the initial setup.
2) Flash jackie's kernel.
3) flash update_SU 1.93.zip
4) using flashtool, flash kernel only (.136)
5) restore TA and relock bootloader
voila rooted .136 with a locked BL and working Bravia Engine
Credits to jackie099 for his kernel and DevShaft for BackupTA utility.
I didnt do any research so no credits to me
i just tried something on my phone and it worked so am posting it!!
Mods if am offending someone or violating any rules, pls notify and delete the thread!
If one hasn't already ready backed up their TA then root is required for the 1st step.

If you spread any instructions, then I ask to give references to other sources.
For example jackie's kernel. Where I shall look for it?
using flashtool, flash kernel only (.136)
NO !
If you gonna flash just a kernel your Update center will pop up notification about new system .136 system update.
So to remove that you have a choice.
-You need to remove Update center.apk.
or
You need to flash like this (everything besides "system" and "wipe app data")
This is XDA, if you cant search...

Where he says to flash just the kernel you already have a full .136 so i doubt updatecentre will care.
To OP congrats on finding this out (although it is semi common knowledge that it will work like that)
Just one thing, if you unlock the BL again it will cause another data format, but you can make a backup of the TA in its unlocked bootloader state and use that to unlock and thus not format data. Just make sure you have them well named.
Quick question..
To get root: I ota to 136, unlock bl, flash Jackie ric kill kernel/recovery, flash su. I wouldn't mind trying this but how is "partial root" problem avoided when using the stock non ric kill kernel that is required to relock bl?

@muntaha_v3 or @blueether ~ same question as buzman; don't you need non standard kernel to keep full root (system rw).

True, but many people only need read access to /system. May be that is the case here?
And you could always flash a unlocked backup and hot-boot a modded kernel for the odd occasion that you need full root?
Or, as I thought just after posting, a "system r/w access" start up script prior to stock kernel flash and you could also keep full root after stock kernel flash.

Sorry guys, was busy with some official Training programs so didnt have time to come online.
1) Yes you have only read access to system.
2) Restoring TA doesn't cause full wipe.
3) this i tried for some of those friends of mine who own Xperia Z1 and Z but dont exploit their full potential because they are scared they'll lose warranty. Convinced one of them, the others are still in line though. Shame on them
Not meaning to get pedantic, maybe the thread should be renamed to "unlock bl, su, relock bl" as root implies rw access to root lol (unless rw script for system is run during boot)

[GUIDE] ROOT Z Ultra C6802_14.3.A.0.757 Locked Bootloader

Images https://app.box.com/s/cokfa7rymgm12tg4220x
Download https://mega.co.nz/#F!UkpmUQBR!DiMSu1gYBpQXGiNiu0oRDg
Step 1: in folder "Buoc 1"
Flash 14.1.B.1.532 by flashtool. Start phone, turn on USB debugging (skip lost imei and signal then continue)
Root
Recovery
Recommend Backup TA
Step 2: in folder "Buoc 2"
Copy 3 file in folder "Buoc 2" to phone.
Reboot phone into Team Win. ( Press Power wait green led then press and hold "volume -" until red led release "volume -"
Wipe -> advance wipe -> tick dalvik cache, cache, data -> wipe
Install 3 file Rom, Recovery, SuperSU -> Do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off
Step 3: in folder "Buoc 3"
Copy file in folder "Buoc 3" into fimware of flashtool
Run fashtool flash file C6802_14.3.A.0.757_TW kernelonly.ftf.
Reboot phone
Finish
Another way better
You do Step 1 then reboot TWR flash c6802_14.3.A.0.757__flashable.zip --> power off phone --> flashtool flash C6802_14.3.A.0.757_Stripped.ftf --> finish
This is already more or less written about 5 times in the ZU section, but good on you for taking the time.
Change the 532 ftf for the one by [NUT] then you can make the first section simpiler as there will be no IMEI issues. See my downgrade thread for the download.
In second section put a warning about that the phone won't be in a bootable state at that piont

If I am already on rooted .290 can I just flash straight to 757?
Or do I need to go through the whole .532 downgrade drama again?
@blueether if you don't mind, could you write me up a very quick process to get from rooted .290 to rooted .757 on the C6806?
I'd really appreciate it.

There doesn't seem to be an FTF for the C6806.
What would happen if I upgrade through PCC and then just do step 3?

hi
i have LB zu 6802
and install this rom step by step
i have supersu and when open program for example dxtoolbox or titanium or freedom ask me for grant root premission
but
it's really not fully rooted, It's like a light root but it's not really real
my program not work good
for example
in titanium
i uninstall a program(google+)apparently unistall that when close titanim and open again see google+ and other program too...
in dxtoolbox apparently close program but programs are open
apparently disable startup programs but after restart open all program
in x-plore when delete a file from root/system apparently delete this but when close and open x-plore i see back delete file
in freedom say this error write permission on system partition are required in order to use freedom
Will this ftf file that has to be flashed using flash tool work for the 6806 flawlessly, because it is named for the 6802?
Don't want to lose lte or something.
Plus is this full root?
