I have this problem:
Plugging USB Cable:
-charges the phone if plugged during restarting
-replugging the USB while turned on will not charge the phone
-won't bring up the USB screen (works before though)
-it doesnt say "USB not recognized" but it doesn't say anything at all
-works if in Download mode (I can even flash roms)
-won't mount in recovery mode
Plugging a wall charger
-charges the phone if plugged during restarting
-replugging will no longer charge the phone. (This is the most annoying part, I have to restart just to charge the phone)
I have tried on both Cyanogen and Litening ROMs, same behavior
I have the Korean Galaxy S2
I have tried connecting through a different computer and even the PS3, nothing gets recognized

You're buggered then, even if you have the stock kernel you need your phone in flashmode (which involves connecting it to your pc via usb).
Apart from wiggling the cable to try and get it to connect you're pretty screwed try a sony ericsson or samsung cable aswell because these work on the mini/pro and I thought my USB was dead but it turned out to be the cable

as silly as this may sound, but you may try cleaning your s2's usb port with a toothbrush (be careful) as to get the dusts, this method has helped a lot of people lately..
also, i think updates can be done OTA.
maybe your USB connector is faulty

I usually run into the same issue with my S2 when I plug it into my laptop. But it works perfectly with my desktop.
I'd suggest that you plug your phone into another PC and see if it detected. That way you can be sure that it's not your PC that has the issue.

Doesn't make a difference. Power input uses different pins/pads to the data points.
Also, as mentioned above is it a actual samsung cable or just a generic microusb?
i've used a original USB cable of Samsung Note , but the same thing , i've also cleaned the usb port on my S2 , alsooo not workk
what can i do now ??

You've got 2 devices, an S II and a Note. We can advice you to try a bunch of stuff, uninstalling & re-installing kies is one of them - which I assume you've already done- so save us some time and help us help YOU.
Tell us what have you tried so far.

1) Reboot PC, try with an original cable (not ebay c**p) on all USB ports. Better get additional original micro usb cables.
2) Remove Kies, reboot, install Kies, repeat phase 1).
3) Go on a different computer, perform phases 1) & 2).
4) Still not working??? Reinstall Samsung drivers on both computers. Repeat phases 1)-3).
5) Turn phone off, remove battery, gently clean phone's micro usb with a wooden toothpick (preferably with some medical 70% alcohol). Don't use metal pins/wires. Repeat phases 1)-4).
6) Nothing helped? The microusb connector on your phone is dead.

Hi, my S3 I9300 has brocken USB port, can charge but PC won't detect it and when I put it in Download mode Odin does not see it neither (PC does detect my S2 on sync and Download mode).
It has stock 4.1.2, unrooted, is there any method to install/upgrade to a different ROM via stock recovery? maybe a modded stock ROM to flash from the SDCard? maybe a modded OTA update ROM?
Thanks in advance
Help need to find the thread : Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Stock recovery can not flash custom rom!
What is the problem with usb?
Drivers are installed?
USB debugging turned on?

Hi, I've double check/install the drivers and cables, the PC Odin detects my S2 I727 and T989 but not this I9300 (tried Debugg ON and OFF), I think the I9300's USB port is broken, it can charge but not sync.
Accepting the possibility that your USB port is damaged, is there any reason you can't use mobile odin?

ROOT is required to use Mobile Odin!

If you can charge but not sync, then it's time to get the good news: get a new USB cable to work with and you'll be fine. I also had this problem and with a new cable, odin was able to recognize my sgs3. Good luck!

Any site to get a working cable? I tested Samsung U6 cable, Motorola cable and some other cables, all detect my S2 (T989, i727) but not this S3.(i9300).
So if it charges it must detect a S3 in download mode? or is possible that it does not detect download mode even if it charges?
have you tried different USB ports on pc, As well as different cables?
Go to service and change charging port module from your phone..

I had the same thing with my i9300 i.e. charging is fine however no sync and I detected it just 1 day after my warranty had expired. Anyway what I did was to clean the USB port to get it working back. Here's what I did, First remove the battery from the phone. Now put a fine awl pin in the USB port to remove all the lint from it. While putting it there make sure there is no/minimal contact of pin with the circuit (which act as USB jack) in the port.
Next i put some acetone on cotton and forced it inside usb port with the pin and make sort of wiping motion of cotton with pin to clean the circuit board. After that I take another piece of cotton and put WD40 on it and do the same thing as above. The Next thing, put the battery back and the USB port is working like a charm
Needless to say, if you do decide to follow my method for cleaning the port do it at your own risk. There is always the risk of damaging the phone further when you do such kind of things.
Thanks to all, the issue was: loosen port, port replaced now I got it rooted using the same PC with same USB cables I used for my S2.
Who invented this weak usb port???
