Big problem with sending text messages - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I have a Sony xperia U with ICS, rooted. Yestarday I installed LBE Privacy Guard and everything seemed ok. But after a while the send sms's were send ok, but the "received" sms's could not be receive. Not all of them, like 70% were received, but the others not. Moreover, the opoup would not show the received sms all the time, having to go to the sms app (stock one) and read it from there.
I called the operator and there is no problem with the network. LBE software was "messing" with iptables to forbid apps form reaching internet, but I uninstalled it and the problem remains. The not received messages are not received even after a reboot. They are like really "gone". What can be the problem.
Please help.

Strange SMS Problem

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which i am having a really irritating SMs problem with.
My dad lives in Cyprus, when he sends me an SMS i can not reply, when i try it just says 'sending' then 'failed' . In order to get the text SMS to send to him i have to delete the message thread, then start a new message and it will send. Now if he then replies, i will need to delete the message thread again in order to be able to send him a new message.
I do not have this issue with any other contacts that i am aware. The only difference with my dad is that he lives abroad in Cyprus, and all my other contacts are here in the UK. Has anyone else had this issue? Know what causes it? I have deleted and recreated the contact but still the same.
Many thanks.
Do you have your dad's number stored in contacts with country code or not ? I was on the verge of smashing my phone when i was abroad, trying to call persons in my native country and i couldn't because i didn't have numbers stored with country code. Maybe that's your issue too
I think the problem is related to what SMS server your dad is using, I had same issue with my X-girls phone, no one could direct reply to SMS...
Hi, thanks for the replies.
Sp1tfire, i have changed the number configuration around several times, all with no success.
Fritz, this sounds plausible, however this would surely affect other phones replying? I don't have this issue when using my iphone 4 so it only happens from the Galaxy2 at the minute. I will try and use a colleagues Android phone to text him and test it.
Somehow you, or TSP (Telephone Service provider), have inserted a sms mail server address that is not valid.
here in my country, there has been scams, "cheaper SMS, enter this server setting" and stuff like that, so there is a setting on you phone that is wrong.

Can't be cause of settings, if he can actually send new sms to that number, but he can't reply from the received sms. His settings are correct as long as he can send sms. Must be something else. Are you using default sms app or a third party software ?

I am using the stock SMS app. I have just wiped the phone and installed the KF2 firmware. Going to see if that helps.
Sp1tfire, thats right, i can only reply to him when i delete the existing thread. I can however send new SMS to him no problem, so long as the thread is deleted before hand. Very frustrating as i lose the history every time.
Update, exactly the same on KF2 Firmware.
Ok, so i tried with a friends HTC desire and he has the same issue. also found my brother who has an iphone 3gs is unable to reply to my Dads number. So at least know its no longer just my phone and that it must be something the other end. Many thanks for the help.
Same problem here
When I reply to my girl it says: failed, when i delete the whole thread it goes.
It's only when I text her, all the other contact go fine
On my old sgs I had it to, but only on stock, when I was on CM7 it was OK.
Cant imagine that its something with the other phone i'm sending it to though

I remember in all the previous phones I've had, there's been a setting in the SMSC Settings allowing the user to specify whether or not to "Reply using the same SMSC" (or something along those lines).
If the option is ticked, the phone attempts to reply to the message through the SMSC that the text originally came from (rather than the one set in your handset).
The cause of the error may be because the SMSC overseas does not recognise your phone/SIM and therefore won't allow the replying message to go through.
And perhaps this may explain why deleting the whole thread and restarting a brand new message works - that is, the new message will go through the SMSC that is set in your phone for your own network.
Although, I've had a look through the settings in my SGS2 and can't seem to find that setting anywhere... (doesnt mean it's not there - it could just be that I don't know my phone well enough because I've only had it for a few days ).
I think your dad's SMS configuration settings is forcing you (or any other person he is sending an SMS to) to reply through his operators message centre
Ask him to check his sms settings and disable any such message centre settings from his side. This should solve the problem.

[Q] SMS and Call forwding Apps stop working in X10 2.3.3

I used the X10 to forward sms/calls notification to my HTC phone via SMS. The apps like "The Operator" and "Phone Control" works in X10 2.1 before but since I updated to 2.3.3 the apps fails to work after 1 notification message.
I rebooted the X10 and activated the sms/call forward apps. Again try to simulate a missed call to the phone. The first missed call notification is forwarded. Subsequently the X10 refuse to send out SMS. Then I cannot even manually send sms on the X10. The sms application just hanged there with message "sending..". Need to reboot again before the sms function is working again.
It is important for me to have the sms/call forwarding function as I don't like to carry 2 phones.
Any one with the same problem?
Thinking of downgrade to 2.1
I do have a similar situation... I have a Xperia X10 and with any application I have the described problem. Just manually sending SMS works grate. If one of the apps is sending a message then no other messages are sent until I restart the phone. I have tried different apps and did do a few factory resets. I had no problems on Android 2.1, everything started after upgrading to 2.3.

I use Go SMS Pro apps (all free)for all sms/email (except Gmail/Google Voice stuff) /phonebook stuff works good, Have had for about six month now has all the stuff that you need to do an more. Although the Emoji with Emoji pulg-in only works if all you send too have the app other wise you are the only one that sees emoticons they will see the standard icons.

Also you can setup your Google voice/chat/mail as your forwarding number to send to all your numbers cells as(text/voice/video mail)/land-line as voice mail/Google Chrome all the above of coarse and it's all free to.
On my x10a 2.3.3 Generic/Rooted with some tweaks/apps/build props
Have you tried dgAway. I've been using it on 2.1,2.3 and now on custom rom.
It works flawlessly but be careful if the target phone is not on. A sms loop will happen.
It is not a question of SMS application... The SMS is working ok as long as there is no APP that will try to send automatically an SMS. I did install a different SMS client App but I guess the applications are using the Android API's so it is probably why this is still failing.
As the initial post said, the APP is sending the first SMS message but then nothing else. Also the SMS is working properly if manually sending them before that first automatic message. As soon as an automatic message is sent all other manual attempts to send SMS messages are failing. The messages are remaining in "sending" state until the phone will be rebooted. Following the reboot all manually SMS messages that were in "sending" status are being sent.
Hope this clears the problem definition!
Does anyone know if there is a bug in the version 2.3.3 that is related to this issue? Any idea if there is a 2.3.4 version for Xperia X10 that is coming out soon?

Go SMS Pro sending issues

Ok, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile, not sure if this is the same for all carriers.
I have been using Go SMS Pro. Never had any issues till they updated it a few updates ago..I have uninstalled it and reinstalled. The problem is, that some Text (SMS)messages won't send, they FAIL. It don't matter if it's short (5 or less words) or long. or to who it gets sent to. I can, however, exit out of this app, and try to send it using the stock App that came with the phone and it sends without any issues. I am lost at this point as to why it keeps happening, or how to fix it.
Has anyone else experienced this isuue and if so, how have you fixed it?
I have alos tried to use Hancent SMS and it also did the same thing..
hmm i'm having a similar problem, but mine does send after a while instead of failing to send completely. Sometimes, my text messages will be stuck during the "sending" animation, where the green arrow just keeps loading and doesn't stop (which means it's not sent out). After a while, it will send out, but that's usually after i send a txt to someone else or if i exit and restart GO SMS PRO, or do something else. I'm not sure exactly but it just works after a while.
It's nothing to do with bad signals either. I'm not sure if it's because I've updated my Motorola Milestone to CM7 RC1, because i've never had this problem before on CM7 RC0. I dunno, it could be due to basebands as well? For my Milestone, I can choose to switch between basebands in the settings (provided by CM7 itself), but i've never had this problem before so i dunno....
I actually gave up on that app...happened quite too many times.. I now use Hancent SMS and never have this issue again... It also was happening to a co-worker and she did the same thing after I told her about it..

Sorry, as silly as this sounds...I gave up on this app a long time ago and went with Hancent SMS Pro...only had this issue once with them and found out on my type of phone Galaxy S2, I can't disable the other SMS apps in Handcent, I had to leave it enabled...so try that with Go SMS Pro...I don't know/remember if Go SMS had this option in the Settings...Good Luck...let us know if that worked or not...
Had the same problem using Go SMS with two SIM cards. Both failed to send to certain numbers; so it's not an issue with providers. Solved this way: Go SMS settings, More tools, SMS blocker, Settings, disable all black list and white lists. The app runs normally again. The developers should take note of this.
hhhmmmm... same here... I can't send SMS using GO SMS Pro to my Samsung Galaxy Note 1. But I can send message using the ordinary app here which has only 80 characters.... What should I do? How can I fix it? But it works in my Motorola phone.. hhhmmm....
Just go to your app manager, then choose ho sms pro, then below the premissions part. You can see the options on sending premium sms. Select ASK and try if it works again...

Android 10 drops SMS messages after idle?

I've got an Ulefone Armor 9 I recently purchased. As part of setting it up to work as desired, I swapped away from the default messaging app to one that supports dual SIM operation a bit more gracefully.
I've since noticed that after a prolonged idle, such as sleeping, the phone drops all SMS messages. It isn't that they don't send notifications -- they simply don't exist as far as I can tell. I tried a different messenger, and while it displayed the texts received with the other one, the missing messages weren't there either.
This doesn't appear to be an issue between the carrier and phone. Or, rather, if it is it's impacting both carriers at the same time, because sending text messages to both numbers when the problem is present results in neither being delivered. The carriers don't buffer the messages for later delivery as if the phone was offline, and calls come through okay but do not resolve the SMS issue.
I can reboot the phone or manually open the SMS app/bring it to the foreground, after which point I will start receiving messages again. Only ones sent after performing this activity, however. The prior ones are lost.
I've checked to ensure that the app itself is running in the background and Android says that it is. I've not got anything that should be pausing it (that I'm aware of), so I'm not sure why Android would stop sending it messages. I'm also not familiar enough with Android to know how the OS handles texts. Clearly there's some sort of storage & OS management, because the alternate app I tried as part of troubleshooting was able to pull my message history.
Has anyone got any ideas on further troubleshooting steps, or insight into how Android handles texts in general that might help narrow down the point of failure?

I'm not sure if this would help but try messing w/ "App Blocker's" settings for your SMS app or even disabling App Blocker altogether (in the settings menu under "smart assist" I think).

Unfortunately, it was already off, so no dice there. Ulefone pushed an update I thought might have fixed it, but after about 18 hours of idle I sent a test message and it fell into the void. Opened up the messenger app again and sent another and that one arrived without issue, but no sign of the first.

New Message Update Restricts Texting to One Contact

The weirdest thing happened recently. My girlfriend uses a galaxy S 10 E On T-Mobile.
All of a sudden, and after updating her Messages app, which is the stock messages app by the way, the only contact that she is unable to text is my number. I can text her just fine, but she cannot text me. I have an iPhone by the way.
I installed Textra on her phone, Temporarily, yesterday, and everything worked fine and I was able to text my phone from her phone with no problems.
Is there something in the recent update that would be causing this? Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can resolve?
