[Q] Transfer Text Messages from one 920 to another - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi all,
I replaced my Lumia 920 due to a shattered screen. I am trying to use the Nokia Transfer My Data app but it seems to not support transferring text messages between two 920s.
Is there a way to get this to work? If not is there an alternative to save all my text messages?

I thought windows phone syncs all the text messages, as I have reflashed my ROM a few times and my texts always comes back after a while.

Are you on AT&T? How long do you wait before they show up?
I don't even see the option to enable text message backup in my text message settings. My friend with a Verizon 8x sees the option shown.

I am on AT&T and my text messages transfer between all WP8 devices I've used. My original 920, my replacement 920, and my ATIV S. Sign in with a Microsoft account, go to backup settings, and enable text backup on both phones. They should sync fine.
Go to the backup settings from the settings menu.
I don't know if this is how it works, but it seemed to only backup/restore my texts when I had a SIM card in the phone, even when on WiFi without a SIM card. So put your SIM card in the 920 with the shattered screen and enable text backup and leave it in there for like 30 minutes or something and then move it back into the new 920 and wait a little more.

if you had WP backup turned on sign in to the new phone with the same MS account and choose restore the old phone and everything will be transferred.

[Q] AT&T MMS issues

I want to preface this by saying I've searched the forums, and have not been able to find my specific circumstance addressed. I'm having a problem where I can receive MMS just fine, but I cannot send any MMS from my Galaxy S2 on KE7 with KE4 modem. I'm using AT&T in the USA, and came from an iPhone 3GS. I'm still on the iPhone unlimited data plan (haven't gotten around to switching to a 4G plan yet). MMS always worked just fine on my iPhone, both ways.
When I go to send an MMS, it just keeps trying to send the message forever. I initially see some data activity in the status bar, but it quits after about 5-6 seconds. The message just sits trying to send unless I delete it manually.
Anyone know why this would be occurring? Help is greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact same problem, but I can't even get receiving mms to work. The message comes through but fails to download. I have tried multiple apn settings but nothing works.
Just curious,but are you guys using wifi when trying to send or receive the mms? Data HAS to be on for mms to work, if I'm not mistaken..

I've tried using with WiFi and without...neither one works. Again, I can receive just fine, just not send.
Here I think is your answer.
If you say for example take a picture or video and then within the Camera app try and send either one as a Message, the MMS will fail IF you have the Camera app set to save to Memory Card.
If you change the Camera app to save to phone, then you can take a 8 MP picture and send it as a MMS from the camera app and it will resize and send.
I have mine set to save to memory card, so after you take a pic, you have to go into Gallery and find the picture, then send the exact same 8MP shot as a Message and this time the GS2 will correctly resize and send it.
I'd say its some bug having to do with saving pictures and video to the memory card, but the above way will get you a MMS to send.
Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty sure that's not my problem. I don't even have an external SD card on my phone, and when I go to the Camera options to change storage location, it's greyed out (can't change it), I assume because I have no other option since I don't have an external SD card installed.
Also, when I have tried sending pics via MMS, Handcent will resize the pic, but it still won't send it. BTW, I have tried sending MMS with the stock messaging app, and that doesn't work either...just in case anyone thought it might be Handcent with the problem.
Under Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, do you have WCDMA Ony checked, or GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode) checked?
I found that if I had WCDMA Only checked, I couldn't get MMS messages to work consistently at all.
I have Auto Mode checked.

check your MMS message center settings. You can access it within the MMS app>menu>settings.
I had this exact same problem when I updated my modem and found out the reason I couldn't send messages because the Message Center phone number was removed.
The correct one for AT&T is +1312349810. Make sure to put the + there.
Edit: NM sounds like your prob is mms only. I have had this problem with my old vibrant galaxy S1 too. The problem was because of the way phone numbers were formatted. For what it's worth I fixed that problem by editing the contact so that their phone numbers are exactly 10 consecutive digits (3 digit area code + the number) without any hyphens or marks ie: 2382819391. No leading 1's, etc. Not sure why it happens but seems to fix it for me.
I haven't had this issue with my SGS2 though.

Lumia 800 won't list received or sent test messages after strange power off

I have a really weird and annoying problem with my Lumia 800.
Pretty much it starts with this:
The phone totally random powers off, it wont start until i put the charger in (even if the battery really is at 40% or more).
After that whenever I receive a text message (sms and mms) it won't be listed in the messaging conversation.
I only see the last sms I sent/got after the phone powered off, new messages is listed in the notification window, but only there. Sending new messages works, but they won't either be listed..
So I can't really read my new texts other than in the notification window that pops up when I get a new one...
Deleting all my messages doesn't solve it, restarting the phone doesn't either.
This is the second time in a month it has happened.
The only thing that seems to fix it is doing a reset of the phone.. I really don't want to have to do this again.
Please help me, I can't find anyone with the same problem on the interwebz either.
I am in the same boat, my sister gave me her lumia 800 saying her sms was not showing. I tried sending the word "test" via sms and I get the popup on her phone. I then go to messages but its not there. After looking through the phone I noticed both her date and time was wrong. Setting this agin seems to have solved the problem

Hello, I just got a lumia 800 today and man i am blown away by both nokia and windows phone 7.5 :victory:
Anyways, I am facing a problem: I use a prepaid sim and on my other previous phones, after each call/sms i used to get a automatic message regarding the amount used in the last call/sms and the remaining balance for my prepaid sim. But now on my lumia 800 i am not getting those messages after the call/sms. Anyone here knows the solution to this problem? I tried using the counter app by nokia but that only keeps track of the number of minutes/sms. But in the notification which I get after each call/sms, it shows the other things like free minutes/sms left and something like that which the counter app doesnt show.
I really need this after call/sms notification badly

Unfortunately Windows Phone is not compatible with that feature. Maybe they would fix this in 7.8 update..
Also reply based USSD code is also not supported on Windows eg: In Vodafone (India) dialing *111# would reply back with a menu of option (action to perform) with a dial back number assigned for the option, which in windows phone is not supported. You would be able to see the option list, but no dial-pad to respond..
And there's no market software for that either.

I dont know how it showed that message just that once....strange

That's strange I ve been using Lumia 800 for about 10 months now.. but never ever it did showed for me...
yes lets hope they get this resolved in 7.8 and release an official 7.8 ASAP

yeah... but somehow I don't miss that feature anymore......
but yet would like to see it on 7.8
After a couple of weeks of testing I found out that after ending a call or sending a sms, once in a blue moon the remaining balance and the particular amount deducted from your prepaid account message comes up.
Its really coming up randomly, still trying to figure out what actually triggers the message to pop up after a call or sms

[Q] Motorola Droid X MMS messaging problem

I just got this as my first smartphone, so excuse the newbie! I just bought this phone from The Phone Cellar on eBay. I am on Page Plus' Talk n Text 1200 Plan. I cannot seem to send MMS messages on my phone and wonder if this is an issue with my plan or with my phone.
When I try to send a text message, the phone automatically tries to send it as MMS. I get the error "No data connection. Please check your MMS APN configuration in mobile network settings." But on the phone settings page, the only thing that shows up under Mobile Networks is a System Select option -- either "Home Only", or "Automatic." (I've tried both, and I still can't send MMS).
After I try to send a text, it fails, shows the error message, and the phone then reverts to some non-MMS format (the "MMS" indicator goes off - maybe that's SMS?). I can then send a text. So every time I want to send a text, I first just send a one-letter text that fails and then send the text I want to send! Picture messages never work.
I called Page Plus and they reset all the data features on my account and re-provisioned my device into the network, but that didn't work.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Initiating sms on gear

I have a gear s tmobile. Up until this past week I've been able to use the gear to initiate texts and all of the sudden this function has stopped. When I go into messages, compose and try to send a message I get this phone icon with a half circle in front of it as opposed to the arrow like it's loading or sending but it doesnt move or change and the texts don't send. When i turn off bluetooth and try to use mobile network or wifi i get the red square icon with the exclamation point. I cannot use s voice to initiate texts either though other s voice functions - ie call bill - works fine.
I can reply to texts as they come in all day. I suddenly just cannot start them on my gear. I have tweaked every option i could think of, rebooted, reset the watch, tried to switch from primary textra to primary Samsung messages, removed the sim card and so far nothing. Something wrong with my sim card or what?
***update*** it was the sim card. Not sure why texting worked at first then didn't but I had to log in and input the # on the sim card and reboot.
i dont have a sim. im using bluetoth with the same problems any help?
I know for me, I can't have airplane mode on and send messages. I can still receive them with it on though.

Thank you for the update. I am having the same issue except it affects calling only - I can not make any phone calls, and I can not receive any phone calls - I can text and use my data though like normal, but I can not make any phone calls nor can I receive any phone calls. You mentioned that you had to "log in" and "input the # on sim", and "reboot" -- would you please elaborate where you have to go to "log in" like on the: T-Mobile Website? Samsung Website? where do you "log in"?

Hey yes on T-Mobile website. My T-Mobile.. I forget the exact links but you click into your device and go from there.. Pretty sure there's a number on the sim and you input that and reboot. I called T-Mobile and they were pretty helpful if you get stuck.

Ok, I went on to the T-Mobile website, then created an account for my T-Mobile Samsung Gear S phone number under "My T-Mobile". However, when I log in to "My T-Mobile" I do not see anywhere listed a place where I can input the number on my SIM card. I tried looking under the submenus of: Billing, Usage, Plan, Phone, and Shop, but was not able to find the place where I could input the number on my SIM card -- where do I find the place to input the number on my SIM card?

Hey I poked around and nothing jumped out at me either. I'm currently using gear s2 so my settings may have changed (it has built in sim.) Give tmob a call and they'll help u. Sorry I couldn't be of more help
