question..
why is it?...
that every time i use the return my phone to factory settings whether thru the "privacy" or thru CWM...
I GET BRICKED AT THE SAMSUNG VIBRANT SCREEN AND I HAVE TO KEEP USING ODIN TO BRING MY PHONE
BACK TO LIFE??
thank you all for ur time in this matter
Do you mean on a ROM like CM10? Or AOKP?
Sometimes this happens when you wipe because you wipe the necessary files that a ROM need. Sometimes a ROM(like stock) doesn't get affected by this. But most custom ones will
This is a universal problems with any phone.

Nah.. it was happening on stock. Apparently I can flash custom roms if I DON'T factory wipe first. I only need to wipe cache/dalvik and BAM! now I'm running cm7 wondering if I should try and flash an ics rom now or just stay on cm7 and count my blessings lolol...
Thanks for ur time

It might be time to flash back to rooted stock, then reflash your rom of choice. A good guide is found here. I think most users have found method 2c easiest.
thank you your a life saver!

Looking for a little help please.
Trying to return to stock and I have flashed 2 different stock roms from samfirmware, nd each time when booted it tells me messenger has stopped working.
If I open the app it force closes.
Any idea what might be causing this? I need it back to stock ASAP as I am selling the phone.
It's starting to give me a real headache at the moment
Thanks in advance

Re root your device with cfroot. Before flashing back to stock run triangle away and then go into cwm, wipe factory reset and then go to mounts and storage and format system and then data. Go to advance clear dalvik cache and then go into download mode and flash stock again. This should help,I flagged back to stock following this procedure today and it worked a charm.

did you do factory reset ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
i did a factory reset but not sure if it all went through properly. gonna root and triangle away now and report back. thanks guys
sounds like it you didn't wipe data/cache!
I've gotten that error many times also. It has nothing to do with the wipe. Just install the same ROM over again. Installing again take care of it. Good luck!

At least try to type. Anyways, disable encryption would be the obvious solution
the thing is that i never had encrypted my device. so wat do i need to do??? i don't get the exact answer by the dev himself.

me thinks you need to learn the difference between rooting and installing a rom. the 2 are completely unrelated, and 'unrooting' your phone is a completely unnecessary step in your troubleshooting process.
ShoStock 3 does not encrypt the phone on its own, you had to have done the encryption at some point, or have done something to make the phone think it is encrypted.
Go back to stock using ODIN.
then try again
encryption was not done at any point. and if there were any it would had been found out when i unrooted my phone!!!

Just to verify, you did follow these instructions... I hope. I have not experienced any major problems, such as yours, with SHOstock3 since it was released. So try again, but slowly. Don't rush it.
"Full Wipe (in cwm recovery) REQUIRED unless coming from ([SHOstock3] v1.4 or greater) (If you have ANY issues Wipe and Format Internal SDCard after you back it up.)"
"Intructions:
You must be running a kernel with CWM.
~BackUP EFS
~FULL BACKUP
~Download*SHOstock3*ROM and place it on your internal SD card.
~Boot into Recovery~~~~Wipe data/factory reset<--ONLY USE THIS OPTION WHEN COMING FROM ANOTHER ROM OR WHEN A FULL WIPE IS REQUIRED
~Install SHOstock by navigating to the location on the internal SDcard in CWM.
~Reboot the phone"
If you have no luck again. Restore a back up or go back to SHOstock2. Worst case scenario, try to fix it with Kies.
im having a problem here. rooted my s2 with odin, no problems there. i can boot up into my backed up stock rom. i have no problems installing any rom, its just that my phone will boot and load up to the roms boot animation but thats as far as it gets. left the phone for 30 minutes and still doesnt go. Using clock work recovery. not too sure what to do? any thoughts would be appreciated
Do a factory reset from the recovery.

After flashing a rom? I always do before but don't think I ever have after. Will try as soon as I'm home, thanks

Yeah, it's a factory reset, you can perform it at any time.

After running just about every ROM for this device, I recently flashed my first stock based ROM (cooked 1.8). However since this time I've been unable to flash back to any aosp ROM. I get boot looped on every one. I've tried everything. Yet, I can flash cooked again no problem. I know there's something I'm missing. Any help would be great.

You have a nandroid backup right? Restore that then flash whatever you want.

Backup won't boot either. That was my first plan.

Have you tried to format system under mounts and storage after your factory reset, and before you flash your rom and gapps? Just a suggestion. Not sure it will fix you problem or not. It seems as if I had a problem similar to what you are describing after running a Samsung based rom in the past. I believe that was the cure to my issue.

Search for Siyah kernel v4.3.3 in the forums and install, restart recovery and flash away. Should take care of it.

I always have kept that kernel on standby but that didn't work. I've tried every kernel. Can't believe backups won't even boot. I flashed cook's ROM wipe before his ROM the first time, wonder if that did something.

Try Odin to stock and start from scratch. A lot of work but hey what do you have to lose.

First find a compatible Kernel for the AOSP ROM your trying to flash. Flash that Kernel.
Second, after the flashing is done, reformat the device; cache, dalkiv cache and system and system settings.
Third, reboot into recovery mode from the recovery menu itself.
Fourth, flash the kernel one more time.
Fifth, flash the AOSP ROM of your choice.
Sixth, reboot back into recovery menu.
Seventh, reformat once more.
Eigth, reboot the device.
As you should know, the first boot up after flashing a ROM takes the longest. Give it like a minute or two.
If this doesn't work, you have to flash a kernel that was compatible with the "cooked" rom you were using. Then from there do a reformat from the recovery menu. Once reformat is done, flash the AOSP kernel, then flash the AOSP ROM right after. Then reformat once more and reboot as normal.
If that doesn't work, flash compatible kernel with the "cooked" ROM your using now and also relay the cooked ROM, and then use Odin to bring it back to stock un-rooted. From there, do as you wish.

That is exactly what needed to be done. Mr cook actually has another thread with cwm flashable wipe scripts that would have done that. Quite handy
