The L9's (p760) update to Jellybean from LG started rolling out today. It has a ton of new stuff for people who are interested in keeping the stock ROM, and another new thing that's of interest to us: the bootloader is now unlockable.
How?
Step 1 - After installing the JB update (I don't know if there are any leaks, but it so avoid them. The real update is out), make sure you have a SIM in your phone and let it stay on for at least 30 continuous minutes. This is important!. If you skip this step, you may end up with a permanently locked device.
Step 2 - Enable USB debugging in the developer options, and run " adb reboot oem-unlock " from your PC
Step 3 - You'll land at a confirmation screen like the one in the first photo of this post. Read it, and follow the instructions there.
Step 4 - If your device unlocked, you'll be in fastboot mode. The phone will helpfully tell you about it (Second photo). Congratulations, your bootloader is unlocked and your L9 can run unsigned boot images
Step 5 (optional) - While you're at it, stay in fastboot mode and flash CWM from http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.9-p760.img with " fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.9-p760.img "

Great news. I'm in the line (have a 769 too). And I have to thank the develop for starting build CM 10.1 just a couple days after LG unlock the bootloader.

Lucky P765 owner too. Thats me. There is no JB for P765, right? But I turned my P765 into P760 by flashing new JB. Unlocked the bootloader normally. AFAIK Only difference in both is NFC, which is missing in P765 and that does not make any difference. And yes rom shows P760 everywhere in phone. Even I open hidden menu with 760 in command on phone. lolz.
doesnt work on my P760. After step2. (adb reboot oem-unlock)
the phone just reboots. nothing happens at all? any suggestions?
see on segret menu (3845#*760#) if bootloader is locked or unlocked!
Bootloader in my p760 is lock.. - jb v20 europa open
jap. mine is locked too
btw. i wonder if every JB firmware (kdz) comes with the ability to unlock the bootloader...
i used the german one.
its should remember guys you muat wait 30 minutes for thr network to register the unlock. and also this unlock method should work on all variants as long as they have jb.

I think you are confusing t mobile with Verizon. Verizon is the only American cell network that really pushes for locked bootloaders. Everybody else leaves it up to the manufacture to decide.

V10G is not rootable and SRSRoot is not yet working for even rootable roms.
The best way to get V10G ROOTED is CWM BACKUP. If you are on Rooted V10E, just start CWM, do Full Wipe and Restore already Rooted V10G available on this thread....

Great job! Rooting works well. Can't seem to be able to unlock the device but this is beta so I will wait a little longer. Just keep me posted if you have any clue on why the unlocking part keeps saying that it failed because my device is already rooted when it is not.

Never, NEVER, flash something to a GPe from the normal C68xx range.
At best you will pull your hear out, at worst you will end up with a very expensive waterproof coaster. There have been 3 or 4 hard brick of the GPe from people flashing the wrong things to their GPe.
Files for the GPe will be labeled as such and will most often be in the GPe dev section
Great work

Hi Guys!
Got myself an Xperia XA Ultra F3215 Variant (1st Sony Android Device for me) yesterday. I like the screen and performance - even if its just a mid-ranger and I'm also coming from the Note 4, though I've yet to really test the battery out.
I tried searching not only the XDA but also through Google, but I have yet to find a thread about the F3215.
I have read the differences for some variants would be Dual SIM vs Single SIM, but aside from those, I don't really know much about the variants.
I also checked the USSC Code if the device can be rooted, but it doesn't appear to be so.
So for those devices which aren't Rootable, would there be instances wherein Root can still be achieved even if it's just Temp Root? Has it ever happened to other Sony devices? This is my first Sony android phone, so I don't have experience in Root and Modding aspect of this Manufacturer.
I'd love to have Root, mainly for: debloating, Greenify, Xposed, and Viper4Android.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA

Hi, it's a full root and it's not hard if you are not a "One clic solution" user. The process is almost the same on nexus or pixel: unlock bootloader -> flash boot/recovery -> flash SuperSu. Download the rootpack for single sim on the Ultra forum and follow carefully the guide on XA forum.A big warning if you use flashtool to update, it can brick your device, on locked bootloader too!

LCD density is 340 or 320i think. I was using nova launcher though.
320Dpi looks good, large enough to read stuff on and has additional space, too! Maybe I'll try 320dpi, since mine is still ln default so texts are big! Haha

I tried to root with Magisk, but couldn't open the bootloader using the procedure on this Sony.com website: https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader. The procedure doesn't give me an unlock code. Do you have an alternative?
I recently rooted my Pro-I without any issues that weren't my own inability at paying attention to guides.
to get the oem unlock key you just paste your IMEI under xperia 1 IV since pro-I doesn't have a dedicated listing.
just follow the guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...re-and-gsi-rom-flashing-without-twrp.4390175/

I recently rooted my Pro-I without any issues that weren't my own inability at paying attention to guides.
to get the oem unlock key you just paste your IMEI under xperia 1 IV since pro-I doesn't have a dedicated listing.
just follow the guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...re-and-gsi-rom-flashing-without-twrp.4390175/

First off, that's kind of a **** answer. Second, can you give some evidence about your claim about the Pro I? What region was your phone?

I've confirmed with him, I also have a rooted Pro-I. It's an HK model although I'm in Canada
Bootloader is unlocked for us by stating it's a 1 III or 1 IV on sony site, it provides the code then.
XQ-BE72
American models cannot be unlocked
AMA; I've done lots of tweaking with it and can attest to it's performance
Tsuchimursu has also helped to confirm a prior root finding so I can vouch for him as well

yeah it's a bad answer because I'm a total beginner at this stuff and don't pretend otherwise. My only real issues were my own doing, had I followed guides step by step I would have gotten it done without any issues. I pointed out the thing that differed from guides that worked for me. you can ask specific questions if you hit a brick wall but it's been a while now so I don't remember much of what I did...

oh by the way, there used to be a guide for pro-I specifically (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/closed-deleted.4390175/) but due to some drama I know nothing of, it is no more, sadly.

Can you do me a huge favor and screenshot the "no" please, and re-iterate your model number?
Talking with Sony about this.

BTW, I have been trying to reach Sony Support for a week and they haven't replied. I only need full access to my cameras, nothing else.

Thank you VERY much for this. For what it's worth, they seem to think XQ-BE62 is unlockable. My unit is arriving in coming weeks and I'll be raising hell if that's not true.
In the mean time, "Developer options" -> "OEM unlocking" - can you confirm you have that checked, and re-validate if your "Bootloader unlock allowed" changes to "yes" ? This is a long shot.

If you are able to root your phone please let me know. Fingers crossed. I just checked Developer Options and OEM unlocking is on. I went to *#*#7378423#*#* in the phone dialer and it still returns NO. Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I have my doubts.

Very interesting. Sounds like left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at Sony.
Will ping this thread (no promise on timeliness) once I get my device.

Sorry to be kind of absent from this convo. This month has been insanity. I am watching what happens. I have a US based Pro I as well XQ-BE62.
My XQ-BE62 arrived and basically as we all suspected, nope....can't be unlocked. Argh.
i've already unlocked the bootloader but unable to find stock firmware anywhere. it uses a msm8937 (but according to cpu-z it's a msm8917) but i cant find a firehose for qfil or a loader with bklerler's edl tool. i can boot into ffbm mode but it seems it's locked tight unlike other devices where i can gain adb su without rooting the device
saw this thread and wanted to ask if anyone wanted to help me get a boot.img to root it since its from the same odm. it's an assurance wireless free phone

I'd be willing to help with this. I have one of these phones as well. Is there a way we could chat somewhere to have better response times between us?

mods are gonna remove any links to chat apps/groups
let's keep it in the thread for now so anyone else can benefit. i'd read up on firehoses and the edl protocol if you aren't familiar with it. heres an open source tool to interface with devices through edl: https://github.com/bkerler/edl
i've already unlocked my bootloader but have no firehose or loader to connect with my sv55. all i need is that to pull the boot image then i can patch it with magisk and flash it back

Afternoon luridphantom
I have the same question as BigBubbaCJ. I just recently acquired this phone (Schok Volt V55S) and would like to know where to get info on unlocking the bootloader. Not sure I need another ROM, but want to be able to delete all the bloatware (google crap) from this phone and be able to enter "storage" to put music and photo's on. TNX

just do adb reboot bootloader and fastboot oem unlock
plenty of tutorials in xda to show you how to do that

Hey luridphantom
Thanx for the reply and info. A related question: once the bootloader is unlocked, shouldn't you be able to root without flashing another ROM?

no, you need the firmware to do anything with an unlocked device
recovery for building twrp, boot for magisk patching and rooting
so now there is a way to get root but it involves a lot of steps and someone sacrificing their phone for the cause
all we need to do is follow these same steps: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/umx-u696cl-unofficial-root-thread.4446111/
Will this make your phone unusable after doing all these steps?

according to the guy who got root on his 696, yes. 2 phones are required to get root, 1 for the actual flashing and rooting, the other to rescue the first phone with once root has been obtained

As much as I would like to contribute I don't know how to make twrp so I'll just have to wait for somebody to make a tutorial I'll be patient n maybe do some research n try myself but in the mean time thanks you

I take it you found a boot.img to be able to root. Was it for the sv55 (SV55216 build)?.... I need that firmware if you would please share it.
Thanks,
Jaymi

thats not the correct way to read the build, but mine is svv55216_01.01.04.131651
if that matches, feel free to patch this boot with magisk
if not you need to use the recovery i uploaded, build twrp from it then flash it
