My phone is a Samsung galaxy note sgh_i717. It's on the rogers network. I successfully installed cwm and tried to install cm10 (for at&t version, but which I read in a forum it's the same phone and roms should work) and I got an error when installing the zip. I ended up giving up on cm10 and tried installing liquid smooth rom and it ended up hard bricking my phone. Luckily rogers fixed it under warranty. I'm hoping someone could offer some insight into how to get cm 10 on my phone.

If you want to go back to stock and have root it can be done, but you will need CWM or TWRP...what do you have installed. You say you have a custom recovery but you are not rooted.... you dont need to be rooted to put CWM or TWRP on, is it you do not have a computer at all...What ROM is on there now?
I would find a computer it would be your best bet, but below are the tools for the GNote for these forums.

Download a kernel from the original dev section i.e. dagr8's kernel and flash it from your recovery. That should restore your root privileges. Sounds like he just unrooted the phone on a custom ROM for some bizarre reason.

Doesn't matter. If recovery is installed you don't really have a problem. Just follow my instructions and you should have root in 5 minutes.

Yes, flash away. Read every First Post a couple of times for the installation instructions.
I have a white i717 and I can't fix the insert sim problem. I know I'm not the only with this issue. I flashed a T-Mobile radio and tried to fix it and then went back to stock and now it says insert sim. I got my sim card updated so its new and it won't work again. I've read the only fix is to send it in but Im 2 months past warranty. Any help is appreciated.

How are you two months past your warranty when the phone came out a year ago, nearly to the day.
Find the modem thread and reflash the ATT radios. If that doesn't work, return to stock using ODIN and the instructions from the Return to Stock thread.

I got this message today after trying to flash the eye candy theme from a Verizon ROM.
I now know better than to try that again.
Here's how I fixed it:
First I tried to flash a backup ROM - not fixed
Next I odin the stock at&t gingerbread ROM - not fixed
Finally I Odin the stock at&t radio - problem solved
I am unsure if the stock gingerbread ROM was necessary though.
This is my first Droid and I'm trying to put in cm10 custom ROM, jellybean 4.2.2 on my t879 note. I am pretty much following the directions but to no avail. I have a note t879, cmw 5.3 i believe, cm10 ROM, and the gapps.
The errors I'm getting is the no data error when finding the ROM in recovery or the series 7 error when installing and it aborts. Please help me with this process.
This forum is for the i717

I had flashed my phone I think to cm7 then to cm9 unofficial by team acid/w semaphore then I was trying to upgrade it to cm 10 with no luck formatted incorrect messed up cache in recovery then tried use odin and that failed maybe due to old semaphore version perhaps.
Anyways it bricked it for minute til I realized odin still detected it when I put it download mode (it didn't show download mode even)
Got it back using a tmobile gingerbread rom. 2.3.6.
Whats the best way to get it back to cm9 or cm10?
Go in recovery mode and flashed cm10 twice, consecutive. There are many great Roms.

T-mobile stopped supporting this phone with Froyo 2.2. If you flashed a T-mobile gingerbread rom then you must have the galaxy s 4g (t959).
