Got a "Enter Network Lock Control Key" message just now? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just turned on my phone for the first time today and started getting "Enter Network Lock Control Key." No service with AT&T. Huh?
This phone was working fine for the past two years without any problems but why now? I spent over an hour with AT&T and Samsung with no resolution. Said my phone was the unlocked international version so they couldn't offer any support and told me to "contact the original carrier" (there is none...).
My version is the latest stock Android ICS 4.0.4 XEU. Never flashed or updated or did anything like that to my phone. What now?

You've got an AT&T S2? I777?
If so, you're in the wrong forum

I have a GT-I9100 with the original stock XEU firmware that is now running ICS 4.0.4 stock. It's the original and international version. However, AT&T is my carrier. I bought the phone off of Expansys.
Update: Just tried in another SIM card from another carrier, and it still doesn't work. Also, I tried restoring the phone back to its default self by doing a full reset and still the same message. Now I know that it isn't a SIM issue but rather a phone issue. Strangely, my phone has been working for 2 years and suddenly decided to "network lock" itself on an unlocked/international phone.

I cannot use it unless I root the phone. However, never mind. It's all fixed now as I was able to get it fixed at a local repair shop. They told me they used NsPro to "re-unlock" an unlocked phone (ironic, I know).

How much did they charge you?

$35 well spent. I was very stressed in not being able to use my phone and all its goodies.

You could have done it by yourself and for free.. oh well.. your choice..

yeah...it takes like 30 min + xda + patience.

[Q] Unlocking Bell Galaxy S2 4G

Hello everyone, so its finally the launch day for the SGS2! Rejoice!
I picked mine up this morning from Tbooth for 599.99 no contract. I plan on using the phone on telus though, so I need a sim-unlock.
I know there is a root sim unlock app, but does this work on the Bell version of the phone? What about paid unlock codes? Will http://cgi.ebay.ca/UNLOCK-CODE-UK-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S2-GALAXY-PRO-B7510-/260812982312?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cb9aa4828#ht_4291wt_1139 work for bell???
I guess I should just try the unlock app... a little hesitant. I realize there might already be an answer for this, but I am just looking for some help. Thank you.
Diito. I bought my Bell SGS2 outright this morning as well. Damn sweet phone. I'm looking to unlock and run on Telus as well.
What I thought they don't allow you to buy it off contract anymore...weird, I am from Toronto.
Anyways for unlocking I would recommend cellunlocker.net (I have used it a few times and it worked, fast and good pricing).

I just bought mine this morning non-contract and intend to use it on Telus as well. They just make you go month to month and pay for 1 month of service and you can cancel in 30 days essentially with no penalties.
I've been looking for a Bell root flash as well...bell has a ton of crap pre-installed that I definately don't dig.
Before all this unlock code ish
try the nv_data.bin thing!
Let me know how it goes

Also you need to pay the activiation cost as well right?
That is not really worth it if you lived in Toronto/GTA, Ontario. I got one at Pacific Mall for 650, unbranded and unlocked UK version.

I live in Calgary xD.
Phone was $625 after tax plus the $50 for the rate plan and $35 activation plus tax so not a huge difference. I'm also wondering if anyone knows the number of digits the unlock code for the GS2 should be.....I received a code from cellunlocker.net and due to poor instructions and myself being uncontrollably impatient to use the phone on telus put in only part of the code..or so i beleive.
They sent the code in this format NETWORK:=48684XXX;PROVIDER:=69599XXX;SUBNET:=85256XXX;DEFREEZE:=05193XXX.
I've used 2 attempts and REALLY want to know its right before i enter it again. I feel like a serious noob after this lol

Umm interesting, I only get one code from the many time I used.
Anyways if you have tried the network and provider one, then the codes are unlikely to be working.
What I will do is, either email them or call them and ask which one to use. If they say use the one that you already tried and didn't work, you should make a video of the process of you inputing the codes and if it didn't work and, just email them that video to get your money back.
But you gota be extra careful now, you only have one attempt before it freezes lol.
Now I wouldn't risk it if they told you the one to use and you already tried it which failed.
You should try to use the things that SS2006 suggested.
cellunlocker.net probably won't refund you the money if you do not have a video, but I can send you the cost since I recommended and it failed. It should be something like $8 right? lol
Good luck.
Edit: okay guys I found this thread and it confirmed to be working:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ree-unlocking-solution-reportedly-not-working
Now you should start reading and learn stuff before you actually start flashing and doing things.
But you should note it will void your warranty if you start flashing and rooting, so you might want to think about that as well.
There is unlock available. under other thread. I unlocked usin theunlock.ca code. i didnt know about root/unlock when i paid for it. But it works.

So did that software unlock or the sim unlock app work for anyone?
Or should I just use theunlock.ca ?
Same as you guys, I'll be picking mine up today and unlocking to use with Telus.

My only concern with rooting and unlocking it via the methods available here on XDA is that it seems to be a hit or miss with what kind of glitches you may end up with.
I'm hoping theunlock.ca will preserve all the original device settings, firmware, etc. and just allows me to use it on my Rogers account.
Rooting with XX OXA kernel worked.
Then I used this to use it on Telus.

BELL, rooted and unlock with ZS firmware.. up and running with TELUS..
I just subscribed to this web site to thank you A LOT! It works perfectly!!
theunlock.ca worked for me!
Did it with Helroz galaxy s unlock and it worked for me!!
I simply root the bell galaxy s2 by following:
w**.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04/29/breaking-samsung-galaxy-sii-s2-is-now-rooted-using-xwkdd-insecure-kernel-with-superoneclick
Then I have install the galaxy s unlock + busy tool
gone trough the 1-2-3 steps form the galaxy s unlcok tool
Then boot the phone with my Telus sim card, wait a few minutes to get hooked to the network and Voila!!
Note: once you flash the kernel with odin, you'll get a yellow triangle at the boot screen, I have simple flash back with the original kernel with odin after root grants to get rid of it, the original I use is I9100XWKDD_StockKernel.tar, too big to get attached
I have a bell S2 when i put a rogers sim i dont get a prompt to enter to the network control key. Im running 2.3.5
That means its already unlocked

No you can't. You will have to pay a company like CreekDirt mentioned. You should have picked up the unlocked international version.
You may also want to go talk to ATT about it. Explain that you will be travelling to a region of the world where ATT has no service and that you intend to get a SIM card locally and would like to use your Galaxy Note. ATT can unlock the phone for you, and if you are polite about it sometimes they will do it prior to the 6 month window they generally have for new phones, especially if you are a long time customer.
Att will only unlock it after they lose exclusivity of it which would be when the T-Mobile version comes out.

I don't know if their policy changed since 2007 but back then, I e-mailed their customer support for unlock code for my phone because I told them I am currently out of country in Burma, a country they don't have roaming partner so I would like to use the local SIM in my phone and they e-mail me unlock code within 24 hours with the unlock code.
Yeah they used to do that. Lately they claim they can't provide codes if they are the exclusive carrier. They denied me an unlock code on the Note and Samsung Focus Flash saying they won't provide them until a certain date.

bormasina, It is usually all laid out for you on the unlockers website, you just fill out the form with your imei, carrier etc... then they email you the unlock code.Sometimes it is almost instantly emailed but if not,it do sent take long. That info is also usually on the unlockers website too.

It took about two hours. They were running a special that if you posted a youtube video of you unlocking your phone with their service it was free.
Thanks
Thanks on your answers ...
I'm kind off hesitant ... or maybe paranoid about having sent my imei number to somebody ...
I guess i have no other choice, since AT&T is not cooperating, even after several attempts ...

It took about 10 minutes for my code to come
They were willing to do it with me, I was told that Samsung has asked them not to release unlock until August 19th. At that time they will happily provide the unlocks. I've been with AT&T for 10+ years, they have never hesitated to give me an unlock code except for an iPhone. I admit, its the first time they've delayed, but I have no reason to doubt their explanation. Honestly, the CSR (all 3, I tried several times) all seemed surprised that they didn't have access to do it.
So, in short, if you need it now, pay. Otherwise, be patient. Either we'll figure out how to unlock it, or AT&T can do it when they get the codes.
The unlock code will typically require stock Rom ...
My code kept failing.. I called supplier, they insisted I needed a stock Rom.
Reverted to stock and paid for code worked. Phone now remains unlocked regardless of Rom i install.

>> there is some 'minor differance' eg ATT - TMobile .... but then its 'GSM frequency rate' and you can go from one to another (provided you have right SIM card....

Freely admit others may be smarter than me.
But I rooted but did not unlock this phone.
Installed several ROMs none of which spontaneously unlocked the phone from the carrier unlock.
Attempts to install different carrier SIM didn't work until I reverted to stock ROM and executed a carrier unlock with code. Even installing an AT&T ROM, the phone still only worked with Telus SIM. I didn't care if the phone was officially 'unlocked' -- I just needed to be able to use an AT&T SIM in it. Installing an AT&T stock ROM didn't accomplish that, nor did any of the many choices available here in the DEV forum.
Advice I got right here in XDA was such that I had to unlock first... before installing other ROMs. Perhaps, I was misled?
On a Galaxy Infuse 4G, I was able to root the phone and find the unlock code inside a file located on the phone. Then unlock before new ROM install.
Wasn't able to do that successfully on the note.
Sent from my SGH-I717M using xda app-developers app
Oddly enough, I haven't purchased an unlock code, yet my device recognizes my T-Mobile sim. I've only rooted and installed custom roms + radios. Maybe I'm lucky.

[Q] Issues with my S2 and Orange

Hello,
I would first of all like to apologise for this long post. In January I purchased my Samsung Galaxy SII on contract from Orange. It worked fine and looked and behaved like (what I'm now guessing) is an unlocked phone (it didn't have any of the Orange apps installed and I had a lot more options). However, it started behaving strangely for the last month and to make a long story short, I received a replacement phone today.
The idiotic thing is that this replacement phone has a load of Orange apps installed (which I cannot remove!) and I noticed that some of the options I was used to on my old phone (Such as System Update) did not exist. I phoned Orange immediately to ask what the hell they had done, and they not only tried to tell me that my old phone probably broke down because I didn't have any of their apps installed, but also that my old phone should have had those apps installed. They even connected me to Samsung, even though it's not Samsung's start-up apps that are driving me insane (For heaven's sake, they even have the Orange logo at start up. It's not like I'm going to forget who my network operator is every morning.)
Anyway, after having read some guides here I've tried to root my phone and tried some SIM unlocking apps, but it seems to have made no change at all. I would have phoned Orange and simply ask them to unlock my phone, if not for the fact that I did that back in early July and they still have not sent me a bloody thing.
I am out of options and I am getting very irritated because I was used to the phone that hadn't been slobbered all over by Orange, and now I'm stuck with this limited thing (Can't even get the *#SIMLOCK# to work).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Post the links to all the guides and Apps you have tried.
1.get your arse over to sammobile and get the unbranded firmware for your phone/country.
2.next time buy an unbranded phone like I do.
Did you buy your original phone direct from orange, or via somewhere like carphone warehouse? CPW phones are unbranded even if you are buying them on a contract with a specific provider. Orange however always supply branded phones.

blown away with the sprint version - got it unlocked and all sim are working

yesterday I got the S7 from a guy for the price of $420 sprint locked and sealed.
i got 2 sims. VZW and AT&T.
i went ahead and order the $7 unlock from ebay and texted him after i follow the requirements which is from PE1 downgrade to PC5. in less than 5mins the phone was unlocked as i can see him working remotely. putting my VZW and AT&T sim will not work even you factory reset. quite frustrating right? so what i did is load this

now my phone is so amazing. AT&T sim worked and has LTE. the VZW sim worked and i can see it has volte on the menu!
every sim you switch it will ask to restart then the phone will automatically configured. no need to add APN
hope this will help. i can root this but NO thanks, i love Samsung pay!
oh by the way, i bought a soda on the vending machine and quickly Samsung gave me a $20 promotion from some outlets you choose

be careful, first time I bought the unlocked on ebay was a fluke.. for some reason he asked me to downgrade from PC5 then he unlock it. to my surprise when I load the "U" software on ODIN the phone locked again and invalid sim! so I asked for a refund.
find on ebay that they can unlocked even if you are on the latest software like P2F above. if they can do it without downgrading that means this is "permanent"
hope it helps.

unlock through z3x is parmanent so i do so ....... i update it to u firmware and it working well .... but only volte calls not working on "'jio'' network .....
Were there any physical spec differences between the U model and other carrier locked model? And why people are trying to flash the U firmware?
I bought a G930U refurb and paid extra (could've bought a Sprint P version new off CL), and kinda regretted doing so. SIM unlock can be bought as low as $7 for a Sprint version, also seems like P version can flash with U firmware as well. I checked Samsung's own site, and seems U version even has less supported bands (i.e. band 25 was not listed for U, but was there for P)
My intention was to get prepared when I bail out from Sprint next spring, I can go with any MVNO without restriction.
Please share some thoughts. Maybe I should've bought a P version and invested $7 to SIM unlcok?
Can you get LTE on T-Mobile?
I ended up paying for the unlock and it went well. Flashed the G930U and still worked. But i ended up finding a newer g930u firmware to flashed that and it ended up locking the phone again. Idk if it has to do with maybe the wrong Product Code build or that. might try to unlock again
Worked this rom for g93op?

yesterday I got the S7 from a guy for the price of $420 sprint locked and sealed.
i got 2 sims. VZW and AT&T.
i went ahead and order the $7 unlock from ebay and texted him after i follow the requirements which is from PE1 downgrade to PC5. in less than 5mins the phone was unlocked as i can see him working remotely. putting my VZW and AT&T sim will not work even you factory reset. quite frustrating right? so what i did is load this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/xda-community-love-g930u-t3415875
now my phone is so amazing.

I have the sprint version as well. I currently have this firmware G930PVPS4APK1. Was this the same firmware you had when you started this process?
I finally got out of my contract with Sprint, It took me close to a week to get all 7 phones unlocked and or MSL numbers for my phones.
I was wondering if this would get rid of the "checking device status" i constantly get no matter how many times I force close the app.
Thanks

Did you ever end up flashing U onto your G930P?
I'm in a similar boat here with a newly bought-out and unlocked S7 from Sprint. I want to flash U on there and the T-Mobile radios, since I'm now on their network, but I've read some posts about losing unlock after flashing a new firmware, particularly G930U.
As you can imagine, given how much of a hassle it was dealing with Sprint and getting a full unlock, I am hesitant to disrupt whatever cosmic forces have aligned to bring me to my current state of a working, unlocked phone.
Not at the present, I purchased package disabler pro from the play store. I just disabled all the bloat ware and disabled the activation process and to be honest I don't have any need to change the os at this time. I did find another thread in the forums that tells you how to root the pk1 firmware if that helps.
Hey guys. I sim unlocked and am on PL6. I have att mvno, H20. Do i need to flash a u firm? Do i need to update to nougat? Have you guys tried custom roms? I sim unlockes because a guy sold me a phone with an unpaid sprint balance, esn is good though. How do i tell if my data is coming from sprint or my mvno. I think he still has this phone active on his account.
I can do the Unlocks for donations . Pm me , If your able to have it rooted first it helps a lot but not necessary

VoLTE and Spay work with this.

Failed OTA update

I went to update the S6 Edge + with an OTA update.
The update messed up and the phone reboots a few times then shows recovery mode.
ODIN recognizes the phone but it will not finish a firmware flash. It stops at NAND write start
The Samsung rep at Best Buy tried several times using the software he had available, but he was not able to get it working.
Any ideas?

Contact Samsung to send it in for repair. Your phone should still be in warranty.

1 year and 3 months old. They screwed it up with the OTA, they should replace it.

True. They could see that KNOX isn't tripped so you couldn't have been trying to install a custom OS. If they don't replace it for free I'm going to be surprised.

Im currently on the phone with some foreign country. She keeps telling me that the warranty was up in November, so I had to pay the geek squad to fix it.
She then said I could walk in to the California or New Jersey repair location. I told her that walking 350 miles or 2500 miles was not an option. I asked where to send it and she repeated that I should just take it to the geek squad.
I had to tell her at least 6 times that after 8 hours in Best Buy, the Samsung rep gave up.
I asked for a supervisor and now Im waiting on hold.....
Samsung refused to replace or fix it.

Why?

The supervisor said they do not take any responsibility for updates, it was the carriers issue. Since the 1 year warranty expired on Nov 30 they were not going to do anything.

I'm right there with you. My brother's phone failed the last OTA and his is out of warranty. They accused him of trying to root the phone - haha.
I don't mean to hijack your thread but I created a thread with a bit more of what I'm trying to do to remedy this situation - I'm seeking the latest update in which I can ODIN and see if that helps.
I'm looking for MMB29K.G928VVRS3BPL4 if anyone finds a copy.
I can't find it anywhere since it's so new and just went OTA.

I feel like I've been down this route.
Were you in the OS when you launched Smart Switch? How'd you do it? What's the trick?
I am in a boot loop, I can get to download mode and that's about it. I can't seem to get the time in for Smart Switch to recognize the device.
Idk... didn't do anything special just plugged my phone into the computer it recognized it and said that there was an update available and I proceeded with the prompts... sorry wish I could help you more... oh and by the way I was in the os...

Well after fighting with Verizon reps, I finally got one to go ahead and process a warranty exchange for me. It came in and the phone they caused to lock up went back in the box to them.......
I was able to get in using ODIN, but the newest firmware is not out and it would not load any previous version. The Samsung rep used his software and had access to the newest version but the phone would not flash to a working state, just a constant reboot with a message that it was upgrading.....

Interesting. Good to know, regardless.
I can get to Download Mode, go to Smart Switch and try a recovery but I enter my model number (SM-G928V) and it accepts that... and then it won't accept ANYTHING for an S/N!
What'd you enter for an S/N? I'm not asking for your S/N specifically - I"m just wondering what Smart Switch is demanding.
NOTHING WORKS! I have the original packaging in front of me, I've tried every code on the damn box - I originally thought it was the IMEI but NOPE!
I don't get it! So frustrating! Does anyone think Smart Switch not accepting an S/N has anything to do with the Verizon rep taking my SIM card out of my phone and....keeping it? My brother went back to his old S4 while I tried to fix his S6. It used a different sized SIM card. The fking rep took the S6's SIM card out and kept the damn thing and then put a new SIM card in my brother's S4.
Is the S/N somehow tied to the SIM card and w/o the SIM card Smart Switch doesn't know what's up?
Anyone?

Well an update did, Samsung said they do not provide any OTA updates, and blamed it on the carrier.

Of course they did. Anything to take the blame off of them. All the carrier can do is update carrier settings and that's it. There's no way the carrier is the one to blame since they have no access to the core system of Android, therefore the only person to blame is Samsung themselves.
