Another 'tard question.
Running SnowJB, and created a custom mpga to use as a ringtone.
Cannot find the solution on how to set it as my ringer for the life of me...
Just put audio files in /sdcard /media/audio/ringtones and reboot to kick the media scanner in.

You should be able to just use an app to rescan the sdcard instead of rebooting.
THIS for example. There is a non-root version too.

Yes you can do that if you use dolphins hd browser. This is what you need to do.
Open the dolphin hd browser.
Then hit menu button and select more-settings -data storage settings-Download directory.
Then type: /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/folderName.
I have tested this and it works.
Edit: the same can be done on stock browser by selecting the default storage from phone to sdcard. It'll automatically create the download folder.

The data is located here:
/sdcard/.SamsungMediaHub/files
Not sure if you can have them saved on the external SD card. I downloaded and watched a few shows using the credit they gave us and then deleted the program.

Delete android folder from your sd card and reboot.

Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
there are like 400 songs in there but walkman only displays 260
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Go to settings, apps, all
Click on Media Storage
Clear Data
The walkman will rebuild the music list, but it will take at least 30 minutes before any songs will show up again, with many files even longer.

Make sure those songs are playable with the Android framework. MP3, FLAC and Vorbis are all supported, some AAC variations might be supported too.

I downloaded several mp3's onto my phone and they aren't showing up in the HTC Music app or the Google Music app. I can play them once I select them off the file manager though.
I'm not using a sd card by the way.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem with Play Music. It would recognize both local and cloud-stored songs for a bit, and then "forget" about the locally-stored files. Rescan/reboot didn't help. I haven't found a solution.
The HTC music app still sees my local files, though.
Try to clear the caches and data for those music apps... That will force them to rescan your media.

This works until you reset the phone. Don't know what else to do.

awesome man, was having the same issue, and this solved it!
Edit: Cyanogenmod's profiles seemed to be corrupt. Making a new profile & selecting it fixed the problem.
So my phone has been fine, up until now. Whenever I restart my phone running CM9 my notification and ring tone sounds get reset to 'unknown ring tone'.
I'm on the latest nightly build, is there a fix? Thanks.

Use a file explorer/manager to to check if your media folders are still there.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Running CM10.1, I wiped my sdcard already so that my phone could read both which it does I have pictures on both my extsdcard and sdcard which gallery can see both but when I download a picture it saves to sdcard but the gallery can't see them even though it sees other pictures in that folder. I can access the pictures through root explorer though, anyone know anything?

I think this is due to the media scanner. If you reboot I bet it will show up in the Gallery.
