[Q] Jelly Bean and Orange Signal Boost - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just rooted my S2 to Cyanogen Mod 10.1 and I love it, super smooth n' all.
But I have faced one major problem, I have no signal where I live and relied on the orange stock rom signal boost applicaiton, I cannot seem to install this from recovery because it is for ICS not JB, any help with finding out how to get signal boost on jelly bean would go kindly.
Thanks in advance

I also want to update to JB but need signal boost too
Are there no Devs working on this anymore?

Orange released JB on S2
I see that Orange has now released a Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2 which brings us one step closer to Signal Boost.
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...0-android412-xwlsu-jellybean-install-root.htm
http://www.latinospost.com/articles...galaxy-s2-jelly-bean-update-android-4-1-2.htm
According to SamMobile, the UK Orange GT-i9100P is on:
PDA: I9100PXXLSQ
CSC: I9100PORALS5
MODEM: I9100PBVLS2
Anyone know if the Orange Jelly Bean ROM has the Signal Boost app? I really miss this app since I upgraded my S2 to Jelly Bean.
It reminds me of the last time I upgraded... I remember upgrading OSB was a big hassle when going from GB to ICS.
So anyone have any news on Orange's Signal Boost for Jelly Bean S2? Please?
TIA,
S.
*EDIT* Hmm I need to update my signature.

I took it upon myself to download the Orange UK variant of SGS2 firmware from Sammobile that I mentioned a few posts above and take a look to see if I could see any relevant files based on the files needed for ICS and GB version of Signal Boost.
I'm no expert (still a relative noob) but I sifted through all the system .apks and couldn't find anything that might resemble WiFi-Calling.apk, even more worrying I couldn't see any of the four library files in amongst all the other .so files in the system/lib folder, I think there might have been one but the other three were missing.
I'm wondering if Orange have given up on Signal Boost support for high end android devices on JB? I still don't know for definite if Signal Boost is in the Orange JB ROM for the SGS2.
Little Help, Please!
S.

From what I've read, I guess you had the ability to make V.O.I.P. (voice over internet protocol) calls......in other words....normal calls via wi fi instead of the mobile network.....
There are apps available for this.....the best known one being Skype......
Alternatively, (and I know this to be the case with 3UK and Vodafone) why not see if your provider will supply a signal boosting box that plugs in to your router (for those who don't want to sign up to a third party app).....

Well I've downloaded and extracted the Orange released 4.1.2 update firmware for our S2 (LSQ I think it was) and I cannot find the Orange Signal Boost app files anywhere so I guess it isn't there. Does anyone have an email address for Orange we could use to get an update on this as it's driving me crazy?

You and me both. If I'm going to move to JB I need signal boost to continue to work. Orange, IMHO, have dropped the ball on this one. I've got an unbranded phone which I installed signal boost on, a life saver in this neck of the deep woods.

Same here, I'm going to try get one of their signal booster kits (that they apparently only sell to business customers) and if they won't supply one of those then I'm quitting Orange (after over 7 years as a contract customer)

Orange Signal Boost on ICS Roms?

Does anybody know of an ICS rom with Orange Signal Boost built into it? Or a way to put Signal Boost onto my ICS flash? I've tried the flashable zip that was somewhere on the forum but it just kept making my phone say that there was no sim card inserted the Signal Boost app wouldn't launch....
Thanks!
In short no!
The Orange signal boost is some how linked to something in the stock orange ROMs so unless Orange release it to work on non Orange roms we wont benefit from SB.
One of the reasons why I have dropped back to stock + siyah 2.6.12
Although there may be a way I spent a good amount of time trying to find an apk & then get it to work.

I stand corrected
Although when I was looking I found no mention of it working & the apk I got wouldn't work (don't know if its the same one as your referring to though)
I downloaded a CWM file, when you flash it it puts the necessary files in place in lets you use it. I've tested that on stock Gingerbread, but it seems that there must be a different method for doing it on ICS. Thanks for your replies anyway guys

Hey guys,
Are there any t-mobile USA WiFi calling files on this device? I ask as I managed to get orange UK WiFi calling on my HTC sensation, however the files I got didn't work. Ended up using the USA files but pushing the orange UK apk instead.
Obviously the sgs2 is a different device so your mileage may vary, but the apk is in a thread I made over in the sensation forums.
I can't say it will work, so make sure you do suitable backups. Good luck
Raty
Has anyone yet been able to get this working before Orange release their ICS?
No-one got this working yet?
+1 i would really like to get this working on an ics rom, i tried the other thread too but with my admittedly limited knowledge nothing will work! If anybody has any ideas i am more than willing to try them or help out in any way i can!
There seems to be lots of people looking to get this working, lets see if we can contribute and help out!

Still no progress?
I had Signal Boost working pretty well on my SIM free SGS2 when it was running GB-2.3.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208830&page=15
Now that Orange UK has finally released ICS-4.0.3, can't we just extract the new versions of the 6x files and run those instead of the GB versions?
From what I have read the GB version of Signal Boost isn't compatible with ICS and stops the GS2's from being able to read the SIM card.
Shouldn't it be that easy? Apologies as I am a relative noob.

Bump, same thing. Was fine with the stock gingerbread and seemed fine with ICS 4.0.3 (though many people have been reporting problems)
After updating via kies to 4.0.4 yesterday my wifi is nulled.
Wifi analyzer is reporting great signal strength but it hardly loads any pages/apps and cuts out in under 40 secs.
*Want to downgrade back to 4.0.3*
Edit: I have a Virgin Superhub if thats a common denominator with you guys

In my case, this problem persists on every wifi access point I connect to: work, home, train, supermarket... this is not related to router/hub brand.

I haven't tested mine on any other network so i assume its not functional anywhere,
I don't have the first clue about how to downgrade it back to 4.0.3 though I would love for that to be an option in Kies, 'flash previous Rom'
It might be, as I say I haven't looked into it yet, give it another week with no Wifi and I'm sure it'll be bugging me though. This could be a blessing in disguise, I might end up with a bloatware free cooked rom, yey!

Ok I went to the official firmware section : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Downloaded android I9100XWLPT (4.0.4) [the same version which was already installed]
Reflashed with odin (make sure kies is closed or it won't work) now my Wi-fi is working perfectly with 4.0.4.

Latest stock ICS for Tab 10.1 P7500XWLP9

Browsing the sammmoibile website I noticed my country (South Africa) finally gets the ics upgrade. Not sure if Samsung think we all live in the bush with diesel generators , with one wifi hotspot tower protected by African buffalo, but it took a bloody long time.
Anyways my patience ran out like 1 months ago which led me to xda and the sammobile site where I downloaded the ICS upgrade which has the bulid number labelled xwlp6
I rooted it and sorted out rolling recovery and the rolling blue screen when it goes on standby, let me know if you guys want to know how
Getting back to the point, I noticed that build number P7500XWLP9 is out for South Africa. I want to know has anyone flashed this ROM? How is it?
Is it worth downloading and going through the root process again? In South Africa we believe in energy conservation, since Samsung thinks we run on one generator, so if there is no big differences in battery life and bug fixes I'm not wasting my effort
Anyway thanks for the help!

All stock Samsung roms based on Android 4.0.4 suffer from battery drain unfortunately, so there is no difference from xwlp6 and this rom.

[Q] Issue with Stock Samsung 4.1.2 ROM (I9100XWLSW)

Hi,
Search everywhere and still stuck!
This is issue that I have bee trying to solve on the 'android-rsap' forum, but am completely stuck, so by posting here I am hoping that someone can shed some light on what is going on.
Link: forum.android-rsap.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=871
In short, the device is a Samsung Galaxy 2 (XEU), and the bluetooth rsap functionality works fine with 4.0.4 (I9100XWLPT) but when I upgrade to 4.1.2 (I9100XWLSW) it no longer works at all. What is most weird is that it seems to be only my handset that is affected, it does not seem to be a universal issue. :roll eyes: What could be specific to my handset that stops this functionality working as it should?
I have been going back to 4.0.4 and upgraded to 4.1.2. many times now, via OTA, Kies and Odin, same result every time, sadly. 4.0.4 works every time, 4.1.2 has never worked with rsap and my car
What could be specific to my handset that stops this functionality working as it should? I have tried root'ing the handset to do more testing and to try the rsap app from Google App Store, but that has the same issue. Could some of the radio software be wrong? or?
Picture shows Kies upgrade screen and the 4.0.4 and 4.1.2 versions I am getting.
Any hints would be appreciated.
Regards,
J.

Ok, So I am a beginner with hacking my Samsung phone, this is mainly as I use them as phones, and want to rely on them. Before I had encountered this issue I had not even rooted my phone before.
I would really appreciate some help with this, this is an issue what is well beyond me, as in my view, what I have done ought to have fixed it. If there was a firmware issue, my reload should have but it back to 'factory default' .
As for going back to 4.0.4, well it works, so it must be a baseline for something, it proves the radio and bluetooth stack is capable of doing the right thing.
I think I need some pointer of getting my had set back to completely stock PDA / CSC / PIT, but don't know how to do it, or where to get the parts, to date got the firmwares from SamMobile... Any help would be appreciated.

The firmware specified by Kies (the one in the picture you posted) is your region specific firmware, just search and download the firmware from sammobile and flash it if you want to go back to stock, gastonw was suggesting you to try a different version of jb like xwlss, xwlsn, xwlsw, etc... If it's common to other jb versions then probably Samsung removed proper support for it, it's not the first time they have done it, like for example they completely removed action shot feature in stock camera in jb(this is there in ics).
Edit:If this problem is specific only for your s2, you might have to try flashing different firmware.

Thanks,
I have tried a completely different firmware, and it behaved just the same. The odd thing is that there are no other reports of users having issues with the rsap application on a S2 with JB, so the support is on there (the app provides the stack if it is missing), but the app does not work either so it looks like it is my handset that has issues. I just can't figure out what to do to fix it. There is one thing that could be at play here, I did have a flailed upgrade from GB to ICS (4.0.3) where vibrate stopped working. It was sent to Samsung for repair, not sure what they did but I suspect that the just flashed the phone with a new version of the same firmware. Could there be something there that still causes issues?
Thanks.

HI,
Took a little time to get the phone back in order and then to go an do the trace.
Not knowing what I am really looking for, but it strikes me that the bluetooth stack looks to just be giving up...

Hi all,
Well, today I managers to briefly borrow another S2 handset with JB on it. This other handset has the same issues that I have, so this must be something in the packaging of the Bluetooth that Samsung did - but I am guessing here.
Any clues would be appreciated, although I think I am fighting a loosing battle here... (works with an S3, so I should go and upgrade! at least chapter now that there is the S4 - but I like the form factor of the S2 better)
Regards,
J
I can't find anything that can cause a reasonable problem in your logcat, since you tried it out with an other GT-I9100 running JB and reproduced the problem, my guess is as good as yours.

Well, thanks for looking anyway...
My thinking on this is now that as it works with newer cars and only the older ones that now have issues, it must be a version issue, i.e. the version of the bluetooth stack is not the one it should be. It would be interesting to know if there is a difference in the version of the bluetooth stack and the rsap daemon between the S3 (which works on JB) and the S2 (which does not). Would that tell me anything interesting?
Regards,
J.
Your issue is directly related to 4.1.2 (and newer) versions of Android having changes to what's known as a2dp, or Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. Supposedly, these failings with Bluetooth connectivity of our blessed i9100 are fixed in Android 4.2.2, but unfortunately this version has not yet been released for it (and before anyone says otherwise, I dare them to show me where I can get the ridgey didge true blue real deal Jellybean 4.2.2 for the i9100, especially when sammobiles - the number one place for Samsung firmwares - don't have it for any country on the planet)

HI,
I was not aware of this, and are you saying this is specific to the S2, so the fact that is works with an S3 on 4.1.2 is irrelevant?

well, I've been researching this since 4.1.2 came out, and it isn't an issue only experienced here in Australia. Google is a great resource, go for a surf and you'll find out more...

Well, my issues are with specifically with rsap, not really A2DP, but if it affects the whole stack, this could be an issue.
To illustrate: I have 2 cars, one older, one newer. With the newer car all is well, and it works at is should (as far as I know) The older car was working pretty much with out issues on 4.0.4, but refuses to work with 4.1.2. Both cars rely on rsap.
Not sure this helps, just wanted to illustrate the problem that I am trying to solve.

J.

Maybe I am overly cautious here, but in my case it works just as it should with an S3, no issues at all, for me it is the S2 with JB that has the issue. And the functionality that does not work does not go near the A2DP libraries as the phone becomes a bluetooth SIM card for the car to access (which is rsap)
There must be others out there that also have this issue?!?

[Q] Can I change modem im my AT&T Note?

HI everyone... I have a question:
I have an at&t sgh i717 with a virgin sim (Im outside of the us), and I need to choose a new modem (I think) because currently I have this t989 uvle1 for tmobile that I had to use to unlock my phone. I'm getting three bars in the signal so my question is or are: do I really need to change the modem? Does the signal have to show more bars so that one can be sure that the modem fits the phone? And, a modem has to be chosen depending on your phone and on your location (since I'm in southamerica)? does having a 2.6.3 kernel affect any of this, should I upgrade it?
I hope I'm not asking too much, sorry,
thanks

Since you have an i717, normally you would probably want to flash back to an AT&T based modem. However, since you're probably not on AT&T's network, your best bet is to try several modems and see which one works best with the provider in your area. My recommendation is to at least base your tests on signal strength and speed tests.

OK, I'm going to try several because just yesterday I found out that my gps didn't work and I think that's related to not having a suitable modem.
Additionally, I performed a speed test and whereas I get 12 mbps for download in my laptop I got 10 mbps in my phone, not much of a deal though.
Regarding signal, I get from three to four bars which isn't that bad and I've made a couple of calls and everything seems to be fine.
Since the gps thing is a real setback I'll flash another modem but I'm also thinking on upgrading to ics because right know I'm on gingerbread 2.3.6 with 2.6.3 kernel so I wanted to know if It's better to flash the modem before or after upgrading.
Thank you for your answers
You will probably have better luck if you upgrade to an ICS or jelly bean based rom.

The gps not working isn't always antenna issues. You can try to update the gps data file. Go to the market and get a gps fix app. You're looking for an app that will replace your gps configuration file with an updated file.

Thanks, good to know that.. it's just that when I received the phone it was working and based on that and some comments on internet I attributed this error to the switch in modem/baseband/radio...
Anyways, I'm installing a rooted ics rom and I'll come back to comment, hopefully positive things
