[Q] Need help with my sgs3 root status - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey so sorry if i shouldnt have created a new thread this is my first time posting on any forum site...
Basically i rooted my gt19300 with odin a few months ago and a few weeks ago i downloaded an app which said it didnt have root access. so i went to supersu and it said there is no SU binary installed and supersu cannot install it, this is a problem. I then downloaded superuser and tried there binary downloader thing. which said it couldnt get root access. i then downloaded root checker and it says my phone isnt rooted correctly. It was rooted correctly at one point and clearly ive done something that messed it up.
My question is will it brick my phone to just run the rooting process again with odin or will i have to do an unroot process first. if the second way is the way i need to go how do i reset my custom binary counter as triangle away needs root access.
And also do i need to download a newer version of ODIN or anything like that because ive updated my phone firmware?
THANKS HEAPSSS

Software update help

Hi,
my phone keep asking me to install the software update (file size 93.72mb), I'm not sure what software this file is belong to, I think this is a new firmware of Android (not 100% sure about this).
When I received this phone, I've already rooted with the Stock ROM but I haven't reset the counter back to 0 using TriangleAway yet, so I just want to ask is safe for me to install this update without reset the counter?
Currently my phone's details are:

Update and you will loose root. You can't update your phone with ota when you are rooted. DO that in kies.
But reroot with CF-Root again.. If you want to be stock then use Triangle away update and factory reset.

Sorry I'm very new the Android system, may I ask what do you mean I can't update the phone with ota when the phone is rooted? what will happen if I press the phone to install the update? is that mean the update will be install to the phone and the phone will loose the root and I need to use Odin to reroot again?
The bottom line is I don't really want to update as my phone is fully working, it just annoying that the phone just keep popping up the message asking me to update. Is there anyway I can clear the notification from my phone about the update? Currently I have the icon on the top left hand side of the phone keeps showing the update is available and I can't clear that off, all I can do is postponed the time to 3 hours and after that it will pop up again.
PS: Thanks for the quick reply by the way!!!!

It will fail more than likely .

If it does update you will need to root again .

If you search you will find out how to turn notification off this question has been asked hundred times or more .
LF1 is old firmware .

I just want to know how to turn off the firmware update notification that's all, as I still want other notifications showing.
I know LF1 is the old firmware, my phone is one of those International version, I just don't know what's the correct standard stock firmware is available from samfirmware.com. I live in Australia and the Australian Stock Firmware is for Vodafone and Optus, which I'm not sure after flashing one of those firmware, will it have the operator's logo on it?
If I flash it with one of the latest firmware, do I need to reset the counter first or I can just simply using Odin to flash it and reset it to factory default once is finish loading?

Via search question continually asked i dont know its not on my phone .
Read the OZ thread if your are in that location .
Dont understand the last question .
But a guess#
Remove custom rom counter >>> run Triangle Away then flash stock rom via Odin .

The ota update will fail while you are rooted. Update with kies to latest firmware and reroot with CF-ROOT 6.4.. Use Titanium Backup Pro to freeze softwareupdate notification.
CWM now supports OTA updates... I updated OTA last night with root, and lost ROOT but succeeded in updating with CWM and root. So just update and reflash CF-Root

[Q] Phone should not be rooted

Hi All,
First of all, I've searched and searched and searched and could not find the solution to my problem.
The company I work for implemented MobileIron mobile device management for access to email. I had a CM9 on my phone and the MobileIron was reporting that my phone is rooted. I removed the Superuser apk from the phone and removed system/sbin/su folder as well. Still reporting it is rooted.
Installed AOKP, tried using SuperSU to permanently unroot, and MobileIron was still reporting the phone is rooted.
I got sick of it so I downloaded stock firmware from samfirmware and flashed that using Odin. MobileIron is STILL reporting that the device is rooted!!!
Is there a possibility that there is still something on the phone which would indicate that my device is rooted, even though it doesn't have root access any more?
My build is: IMM79D.XWLPW
Kernel is: 3.0.15-1056084 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 22 etc etc
Please help!!!
Adi
Delete MobileIron data & cache.
Do NOT wipe in recovery, open the app via task manager.

Need Help Rooting My XT912

Hello XDA,
I have been all through the forums, searching for the answer to my question before it came to making a post myself, but with no luck.
I need help rooting my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx.
Previously, I have tried the EternityProject with no success. This is where I first ran into the message "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem" when trying to open the SuperSU app.
After that I tried going to Droidrazrroot.com and downloading what they had. Again, same error message.
FINALLY! I stumbled upon DooMLoRD's easy rooting toolkit and saw that it was tested and confirmed for the Droid Razr. Thinking there would be no more problem, I tried again, yet the same error message popped up when trying to access SuperSU.
So now I come to you all, hoping that you can give me a simple, quick fix for all of this. And hopefully an explanation as to why this happened in the first place.
To clear up the basics:
YES - I have checked USB Debugging
YES - I have checked "Allow mock locations"
YES - My device is connected as a media device (MTP)
YES - I have checked "Unknown sources"
... Any help would be greatly appreciated

Your on jellybean. All of the methods you have posted that you have tried are for ICS. You will have to search for the jellybean root exploit.

I tried this with no luck. I get stuck right before root successful.
I also tried this one with another error message. Does anyone know how I can preform a clean wipe? I think I'll try things like that.
Thanks for everyone's help, it turns out the cord I was using was the problem. When I switched to another cord the Razr_Blade Root worked perfectly. Now I am fully rooted!

[Solved] Can't root 4.3 i9300

I have I9300 which I have just upgraded to 4.3 JellyBean,
now I want to restore my backup but I have to root my phone in order to run the backup app.
I have tried 3 different tutorials but none of them worked for me, after I go to download mode and run the md5 or whatever on PDA and press start it says pass and my phone restarts but nothing happens and I get no root.
Please help?

Solved the problem., all I had to do is download supersu app from play store
Sounds like you aren't reading or following the instructions, you are very vague about doing something that can brick your phone.
Go search and read about CF auto root, follow the instructions exactly.

Thanks for the response, I read the CF autoroot instructions... the problem was the simple fact that I don't have SuperSU app so I downloaded it and it fixed everything.
Wish it had fixed mine! Have rooted via Chainfire but although it looks like it worked it hasnt. Super Su is saying there is no SU binary installed and I need to manually re-root. Have done that but its not working. Any help?

[Q] Update Galaxy Note 2 with TWRP without losing FoxFi

Greetings:
I own a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 S. I rooted it and used TWRP which is running along with superuser and busy box. Still the stock ROM though and I am happy with it that way.
The latest OTA update was pushed out and every 5 days the device asks me to update or defer. I have tried updating several times but it always begins the process then TWRP opens after going through the opening screens and it says the update failed.
I did some reading and learned that if I accept this update I will lose Foxfi, which I use heavily. (I work for a school system that does not let us use the wireless, so I use my device as my hotspot.
Can anyone help me? I would either : a. like to accept the update while keeping the root and Fox Fi. Or b. Stop the update notices. (It's also weird because I was asked to set up a lock screen password and can't figure out how that happened. I'd like to remove it too since it's such a huge pain in the butt.
Is there any way to use TWRP to take the OTA update and still keep root and Fox Fi capability?
Device info: Android VErsion 4.1.2 Baseband i605VRAMC3 Kernel 3.0.31-4144933 [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Oct 28 13:34:23 KST 2012 Build Number JZO54K.I605VRAMC3
I am no where near tech savy enough to know what any of the above means, so would appreciate someone helping me!
Thanks
I must say that this is so far not possible....You can try 4.3 rom released by beans.... It's the same except the knox and locked bootloader.
Thanks,

If I was you, I would not accept the update. I would install the newest TWRP from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045829
Then I would make a back up of your current ROM. Then download a 4.3 ROM from here, (If you want the purest stock it would be Beans Rom that he posted, stock, rooted, no knox stuff). Also, download the Wifi/Modem MJ9 package he posted. Wipe clean x3, then install his 4.3 ROM, then boot to make sure it works, reboot into download mode, Open Odin 3.07, check the PDA box, the select file to place into PDA box (MJ9radio.tar), hit go, wait for it to finish and say pass. The wipe clean again x3, then boot into rom and your baseband for say MJ9 and Build Number should say 4.3. To make sure the MJ9 modem was accepted, you will have service and WIfi will work. If not you will see "Unknown Baseband"

To stop the OTA updater you need to rename or delete the following two files under /system/app and then reboot phone.
FWupgrade.apk to FWupgrade.bak
SDM.apk to SDM.bak
