Greetings:
I own a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 S. I rooted it and used TWRP which is running along with superuser and busy box. Still the stock ROM though and I am happy with it that way.
The latest OTA update was pushed out and every 5 days the device asks me to update or defer. I have tried updating several times but it always begins the process then TWRP opens after going through the opening screens and it says the update failed.
I did some reading and learned that if I accept this update I will lose Foxfi, which I use heavily. (I work for a school system that does not let us use the wireless, so I use my device as my hotspot.
Can anyone help me? I would either : a. like to accept the update while keeping the root and Fox Fi. Or b. Stop the update notices. (It's also weird because I was asked to set up a lock screen password and can't figure out how that happened. I'd like to remove it too since it's such a huge pain in the butt.
Is there any way to use TWRP to take the OTA update and still keep root and Fox Fi capability?

I am no where near tech savy enough to know what any of the above means, so would appreciate someone helping me!
Thanks
I must say that this is so far not possible....You can try 4.3 rom released by beans.... It's the same except the knox and locked bootloader.

If I was you, I would not accept the update. I would install the newest TWRP from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045829
Then I would make a back up of your current ROM. Then download a 4.3 ROM from here, (If you want the purest stock it would be Beans Rom that he posted, stock, rooted, no knox stuff). Also, download the Wifi/Modem MJ9 package he posted. Wipe clean x3, then install his 4.3 ROM, then boot to make sure it works, reboot into download mode, Open Odin 3.07, check the PDA box, the select file to place into PDA box (MJ9radio.tar), hit go, wait for it to finish and say pass. The wipe clean again x3, then boot into rom and your baseband for say MJ9 and Build Number should say 4.3. To make sure the MJ9 modem was accepted, you will have service and WIfi will work. If not you will see "Unknown Baseband"

To stop the OTA updater you need to rename or delete the following two files under /system/app and then reboot phone.
FWupgrade.apk to FWupgrade.bak
SDM.apk to SDM.bak

Hi,
my phone keep asking me to install the software update (file size 93.72mb), I'm not sure what software this file is belong to, I think this is a new firmware of Android (not 100% sure about this).
When I received this phone, I've already rooted with the Stock ROM but I haven't reset the counter back to 0 using TriangleAway yet, so I just want to ask is safe for me to install this update without reset the counter?

Update and you will loose root. You can't update your phone with ota when you are rooted. DO that in kies.
But reroot with CF-Root again.. If you want to be stock then use Triangle away update and factory reset.

Sorry I'm very new the Android system, may I ask what do you mean I can't update the phone with ota when the phone is rooted? what will happen if I press the phone to install the update? is that mean the update will be install to the phone and the phone will loose the root and I need to use Odin to reroot again?
The bottom line is I don't really want to update as my phone is fully working, it just annoying that the phone just keep popping up the message asking me to update. Is there anyway I can clear the notification from my phone about the update? Currently I have the icon on the top left hand side of the phone keeps showing the update is available and I can't clear that off, all I can do is postponed the time to 3 hours and after that it will pop up again.
PS: Thanks for the quick reply by the way!!!!

I just want to know how to turn off the firmware update notification that's all, as I still want other notifications showing.
I know LF1 is the old firmware, my phone is one of those International version, I just don't know what's the correct standard stock firmware is available from samfirmware.com. I live in Australia and the Australian Stock Firmware is for Vodafone and Optus, which I'm not sure after flashing one of those firmware, will it have the operator's logo on it?
If I flash it with one of the latest firmware, do I need to reset the counter first or I can just simply using Odin to flash it and reset it to factory default once is finish loading?

Remove custom rom counter >>> run Triangle Away then flash stock rom via Odin .

The ota update will fail while you are rooted. Update with kies to latest firmware and reroot with CF-ROOT 6.4.. Use Titanium Backup Pro to freeze softwareupdate notification.
CWM now supports OTA updates... I updated OTA last night with root, and lost ROOT but succeeded in updating with CWM and root. So just update and reflash CF-Root

Hey so sorry if i shouldnt have created a new thread this is my first time posting on any forum site...
Basically i rooted my gt19300 with odin a few months ago and a few weeks ago i downloaded an app which said it didnt have root access. so i went to supersu and it said there is no SU binary installed and supersu cannot install it, this is a problem. I then downloaded superuser and tried there binary downloader thing. which said it couldnt get root access. i then downloaded root checker and it says my phone isnt rooted correctly. It was rooted correctly at one point and clearly ive done something that messed it up.
My question is will it brick my phone to just run the rooting process again with odin or will i have to do an unroot process first. if the second way is the way i need to go how do i reset my custom binary counter as triangle away needs root access.
And also do i need to download a newer version of ODIN or anything like that because ive updated my phone firmware?
THANKS HEAPSSS

So my Galaxy S4 has been rooted for over 2 months now. I had heard about a move to SD card update on OTA and had to install it, I originally had TWRP recovery installed with custom backups. But when I went back to a stock backup and attempted to take the update it wouldn't allow me to with a 410 error. I flashed a file through Odin replacing TWRP with stock recovery (still couldn't install the OTA updates) And finally installed the updates through my pc on a Verizon software. I had lost root and got it back an hour later, but now I can't get TWRP back to flash a few mods. (Getting rid of annoying Wifi bar, sound boost, Wifi toggle) Any advice? When I try to install TWRP through GooManager it boots into download Odin mode. And I don't even have access to Odin anymore, I tried to flash back through Odin and it keeps saying Auth fail. Any advice would be appreciated. Feeling kinda lost here, Searched all over the threads and came up with nothing. Just feels less safe with my galaxy s4 without anyway to back it up if anything goes wrong.
Model Number SCH-I545
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband Version: VRUAME7

Thanks in advance.

Don't know how you came up with nothing cause its posted all over the place. I hate to say it but you should have read FIRST and updated second. You are now officially screwed. At the present time there is only a root method for me7. You CANNOT install any custom recovery on that firmware. They changed/locked the boot loader with that update. No flashing back to MDK, no nothing. That is why there is a sticky in the general thread called Bounty. There is about $3000 worth of donations ready to go to the first person to crack the boot loader. But ad of now, no solution. Sorry man, always read first before you OTA. Hope you enjoy you apps2sd.

It's not as though this isn't well documented- it's all over the forum and should be common knowledge at this point. You now have a device on which the loki exploit has been patched. You cannot install a recovery, kernel, or rom at this point.
If there is ever another exploit discovered, I would hope you have learned a lesson about die diligence and blindly flashing updates without having an inkling about what the update entails. Had you done your die diligence, you would have not only known about the patched bootloader, you would have also known how utterly useless the "apps to sd" feature is.

Wasn't just the App 2 SD I also wanted to leave hyperdrive to go back to stock. Hyperdrive would constantly crash when I run the OTA app. And S health wouldn't properly count correctly (Not that S healths important) But still a minor bug. I appreciate everyone's response, and will be keeping an eye out for the next exploit (if). Least I won't be spending all day browsing for a way to install a custom recovery. And SQLite Editor helped remove the Wifi annoying notification and added a wifi toggle. (main things I wanted to mod) And I am pretty sure there is a way around the sound increase without flashing. Anyways, sorry I was dumb and wasted 5 minutes of your guys time. And thanks for the advice. Will leave a small 20$ tip to the donations also.. xD
I'm seeing an available firmware upgrade via kies (MK7).
I'm a little skeptical to try it. Has anyone else upgraded to this firmware?
If so, have you been able to root your mega and install a custom recovery after the upgrade?
I don't want to install this firmware upgrade only to find out that afterwards that knox is on it and prevents me from rooting the phone or unlocking the bootloader.
By the way, I tried downloading the firmware without my phone connected but kies keeps force closing on me before the download is complete.
I'm afraid to connect my phone and try the download because I think it will automatically install the upgrade which I don't want to do until I'm sure I can re-root it and re-install TWRP.

I bit the bullet and gave it a shot. I am happy to report that the firmware upgrade was successful using Kies, I was able to root the device via the Kingo Root app, and was able to re-install TWRP. I am now on firmware M819NUVUAMK7. It is still Android version 4.2.2, and the baseband is also M819NUVUAMK7. The kernel version is dated Fri Nov 22, 2013
I installed superSU and when I ran it, it asked me if I wanted to disable knox (YES OR NO). OF COURSE I DISABLED KNOX!!
I afterward performed a nandroid backup in TWRP (the first order of business).
I am more comfortable now deleting, freezing, uninstalling system apps now because (in the event of a softbrick or bootloop) I can always revert to my nandroid backup or in extreme cases, restart all over again by re-installing the firmware via Kies, re-rooting the device via the kingo root app, and reinstalling TWRP via ODIN.
Not sure what changed from the original firmware (no change log). In any event, the device is snappy and I'm not experiencing any lags.

well easiest way is. if its your stock ROM that came with the phone when you bought it. it is odex.
if you are rooted, you can use root explorer to go into your system/app file and see if it shows odex settings for apps
I did and had no problem rooting with kingo. What I cannot find is a way around sim lock without going through metro and that sucks.

Almost had a heart attack from this upgrade. My phone was already rooted when I applied the update from Kies. Everything went through fine except when it restarted, I couldn't turn on Wifi at all and I was getting an E in the cell signal. I managed to download the TWRP tar file and Kingo app to root again. I was able to restore my previous backed up image and everything was when I last left it! WHEW!
That's strange. I had no problem. wifi worked and I haven't seen E at all (only 4g lte or 4g). My signal appears to be stronger and more stable with this update than with the original firmware (most of the time I have full bars). As mentioned I don't know what changes were made (no change log around) but this is my observation so far.

This string is present on my phone in download mode:
BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 3
I have no lines displaying anything about KNOX.
In titanium backup I froze knox 1.0, knox notification manager 1.0, and knox store 1.0.
So it appears that knox is in the rom somewhere but it's had no impact on me. I'm rooted, have twrp installed and have flashed multiple custom roms on my device (both tw and aosp based roms).
Perfect, thanks! Glad you guys got spared from the horrid new Knox bootloaders. There's a small chance that the M819 can be downgraded to the older bootloader to remove Knox entirely, but if the update came with the newest bootloader (I got stuck with it on my i527M) there is no hope at all of downgrading.
Thanks to whoever posted this and the creator of this rom

ok thanks and this will work correct.... also before I add a new rom on the m819n I have another question... I used to get 4LTE every where and now I get only 4G or edge after rooting with stock rom. signal apps dont do crap. is there a way to fix this... I miss my LTE data speeds. if you know how to fix or anything please point me in the right direction thanks.
I rooted my phone a few months ago and everything was fine. But recently I was prompted to install to 5.0 Lollipop update. I tried and it failed. After some googling I thought it was the fact that I'm rooted. So I unrooted it and now no matter what I do with ODIN it fails.
I've tried:
Changing my kernel. I tried two different kernels, both failed.
Installing Lollipop through 3 different methods. They all failed. (The OTA update, using ODIN, and through recovery mode using my SD card)
Basically ODIN always fails, and any other one-click root method fails as well. (Towelroot, Kingo App, MobileGo Wondershare)
Backstory: The only thing I can think of causing this much trouble is the fact that when I rooted my phone I had to use an old kernel. Everything was failing so I had to roll back my kernel in order to root. I did that. And then my WiFi stopped working. So I changed my kernel back to the original one. I don't know if this would do anything but figured it was worth mentioning.
The goal is to get the 5.0 update installed on my phone. I will settle for just re rooting my phone though.
Phone info:

Any ideas on why I can't install this update?
If your phone was modified in any way ie. rooted, frozen/deleted bloatware, etc., you will not be able to take the OTA - even if you unroot. Since you want 5.0 on your phone, I suggest this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558 . This way, you get a rooted 5.0 system with the option of going back to Kitkat.
OP that sucks, I had this same problem but I fixed it by flashing the ROM in this forum using Odin on my computer :http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ment/rom-i545oc1-5-0-1-100-stock-mdk-t3097902
There are some things that don't work right though

Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm trying that but every time I click a download like I got a 'page not found'. Any other way to get this flash fire app?
I know in the directions it says to flash fire, but if the download link doesn't work or something you can just use Odin on you computer to flash it.
That's what I did because it didn't even work when I tried to use flash fire on my phone.
